Prophetisches Reden und Evangelisation : Eine missiologische Untersuchung der uber Berlin ausgesprochenen Prophetien (1980-2000) / Prophecy and evangelisation : A missiological study of prophecies regarding Berlin (1980-2000)Heim, Detlef Peter 11 1900 (has links)
Prophecy and evangelisation are central topics of the Bible and instruments of God. Biblical
reports show, that mission and evangelisation were mostly possible by a prophetic word
(Chapter one).
The concern of this study is to analyse the prophecies spoken out for Berlin between the years
1980 to 2000. The prophecies were compared with biblical statements, were proportionate to
one another and were analysed regarding their mission-theological relevance. A questioning
of few leaders of charismatic-embossed churches of Berlin gives the practical part of the
study (the theoretical part see chapter two, the results see chapter three).
It has to be articulated, that there is no objective judgement for the analysed prophecies. All
indications are not bound by time and were given in general sense. All prophecies deal with a
spiritual quantum leap, who speaks of an out-pouring of the Spirit of God over Berlin
covering the whole area (Chapter four). / Text in German / Titles in German and English / Keywords in German and English / M. Th. (Missiology)

Narrative reflections on charismatic discursive practicesChristodoulou, Esther 30 November 2003 (has links)
The purpose for this research journey was twofold: (1) to discover the power of certain discourses in the charismatic church context and (2) to challenge disrespectful discursive practices in order to co-operate respectful, ethical and caring ways of being. Seven leaders in charismatic churches committed themselves to this qualitative research project. The research process resulted in a confirmation by the participants that some charismatic discursive practices can be abusive and also to the acknowledgement that they too have at times fulfilled the role of abuser, even in unknowingly. This research journey ended in Hope. Hope for more transparency and trust between leaders and members, resulting in more respectful practices. / Practical Theology / M.Th. (Pastoral Therapy)

The interchange, exchange and appropriation of traditional healing, modern medicine and Christian healing in Africa todayMorekwa, Othusitse 30 November 2004 (has links)
This research work is set out to investigate healing practised in Africa today. There are many ways of healing in African; others are classified as foreign because they came out of Africa especially from European influence while others are considered local or traditional. The research shall dig out the influence of what is known as foreign methods or approaches of healing in Africa today and what African healing can learn from other methods of healing practised today.
There shall be contemporary stories and facts about the situation of healing today and relevant statistics where necessary. The research also comes out with appropriate suggestions on how to combat contemporary illnesses of today. This includes what should be improved and how. This work covers the whole of Africa. / Philosophy & Systematic Theology / M.Th. (Systematic Theology)

"Promise of power" : an analysis of Bible Life Ministries in BotswanaBorn, Jacob Bryan 11 1900 (has links)
In a manner similar to other countries on the African continent, Botswana has witnessed the explosive growth of new Pentecostal churches. These churches are most often distinguished by their recent origins, focus on the prosperity gospel and spiritual deliverance ministries. In this study, one specific church, Bible Life Ministries, in the capital city of Gaborone, was researched in an effort to understand
its great appeal. I have proposed that their rapid growth is a result of their "promise of power" - spiritual power that provides individuals with temporal results such as health, wealth and control over one's environment. Faced with the rapid changes brought about by external forces such as urbanization and globalization, these churches are deliberately seeking to bridge western and Setswana culture in an
effort to contextualize the gospel for contemporary Batswana. Of major missiological concern is whether or not the gospel message has been distorted in this process. / Church Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Missiology)

Towards a new vision of the laity and their mission : an exploration of the response of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary to the Vatican II documentsCsiszer, Monika 28 February 2006 (has links)
The present study explores how the guiding principles and aspirations of the II Vatican Council concerning the theological status and significance of the laity and their involvement in the apostolic mission of God come to fruition in the `movement church' within the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary.
The restoration of the lay status and function, distorted through the centuries in the Roman Catholic Church worldwide, is a crucial and indispensable task of the Roman Catholic Church if she wants to fulfil her prophetic, pastoral and holistic mission. This is indispensable for the Church to become what she really is, the eschatological people of God.
Two revival movements in the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary are studied: the Bokor Movement and the Roman Catholic Charismatic Movement from the perspective of the role of the laity. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Missiology)

Spirituality, medical science and health : the spiritual effects of a sense of entitlement in the ministry of healing in the Christian ChurchMartin, Marlene Lorraine 25 June 2014 (has links)
The human trait of entitlement, although currently very topical, has only recently come under serious scrutiny by behavioural psychologists (Campbell, Bonacci, Shelton, Exline & Bushman 2004:30). This study examines the modifying effects of these psychological elements on the spiritual aspects of disease and healing. Other modifiers are the personal spiritual beliefs or dogmas of the clergy within the paradigm of a particular denomination, and the beliefs and expectations of the adherents.
Two Christian denominations were chosen for the study: The Methodist Church of Southern Africa, in particular the home church of the writer, The Bedfordview Methodist Church, and Afmin, an organisation that trains and equips students, mainly African, for Christian ministry. Structured face to face interviews were conducted with pastors and church leaders, interviews with medical professionals were conducted and a wide ranging review of relevant literature undertaken.
It was found that while the trait of entitlement was a constant in human nature, there were modifying factors. These included the personal beliefs of pastors and youth leaders, often founded on personal experience instead of denominational dogma. The influence of Pentecostal / Charismatic teaching was very evident. It was also found that the church, in a drive to become increasingly relevant to current norms and social trends, tended to have a rather confused understanding of biblical healing and the role of God in disease and suffering.
While the inevitability of death, suffering and disease cannot be denied, the role of the church is complex and controversial. Unrealistic expectations, based on teaching that encourages a sense of entitlement can lead to great challenges regarding faith in both the clergy and adherents. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / D. Shedding light on a muddled field : a Christian ethical appraisal of transforming and transformational leadershipMeier, Elke Annette 02 1900 (has links)
Principles of “transforming leadership” have been widely promoted
since the publication of James McGregor Burns’ book Leadership,
especially among Christian leaders. The purpose of this study is to
examine the ethical foundations of his model and Bernard Bass’
“transformational leadership”. Imprecise use of the terms
“transforming”, “charismatic”, and “transformational” leads to an
adoption of methods without adequate understanding of the
underlying value system. This literature review compares and
evaluates the source texts within a framework of world view,
intention, character and menschenbild, as well as the Christian
ethical mandates of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Valuing the imago Dei in
others has significant implications for a leader-follower
relationship. Bonhoeffer’s mandates will help leaders reflect their
position within their organisations and the wider society. Though
the incentive for this research was leadership within the context of
the Wycliffe Global Alliance, its findings will be relevant to Christian
leadership in general, especially in intercultural contexts. / Philosophy & Systematic Theology / M. Th. (Theological Ethics with specialisation in Christian leadership in context)

Jesus the Jew : eschatological prophet, Galilean Hasid or cynic sage?Myburgh, Jacobus Adriaan 10 1900 (has links)
The diversity of Jesus images that resulted from historical Jesus research poses the single most pressing problem of the research endeavour. Diverse historical images lead one to ask questions about historiography. It is a fact that we do not have bruta facta in history but only interpretations of what might have happened.
The problem of diverse images is taken up in this thesis. Three different images that are the result of different points of departure and different methods of research are closely scrutinised. The images are: Eschatological prophet, Cynic sage and Galilean Hasid. After close·examination of each of these images one has to conclude that each of them is a viable image. One may question the proponents of each of these images on methodological aspects as well as their presuppositions. This line of questioning would not solve the problem. One would also expand the problem if one were to seek yet another image. A way out of this impasse would be to try to understand the diversity. Is there an image that could explain the diversity? The modem diversity of Jesus images is a continuation of an ancient diversity that one could find in the ancient texts at our disposal. From this we could deduce that Jesus was understood differently by different people from the onset. The challenge is to find an image that would clarify the diversity. What sort of Jesus would have been understood in so many ways? We have reason to take Jesus to be a Jew from Galilee. If we could find a Galilean Jewish image that would
explain the diversity, we would be very near the historical Jesus. The image of the Galilean Hasid is a very promising option. Some of the kingdom sayings, that are most probably authentic, were taken as test cases to see
whether they could have been uttered by a Galilean charismatic and later interpreted as Cynic and/or eschatological. The conclusion is that the image of Galilean charismatic would open up new avenues to approach the diversity of images of the historical Jesus. / Biblical and Ancient Studies / Th. D. (New Testament)
