[en] IS SECRECY STILL THE SOUL OF BUSINESS?: A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE SERVICES' HOME PAGES / [pt] O SEGREDO AINDA É A ALMA DO NEGÓCIO?: UMA ANÁLISE DO DISCURSO DE HOME PAGES DE SERVIÇOS NACIONAIS DE INTELIGÊNCIASANDRA MARA SANTA BARBA MIRANDA 01 March 2007 (has links)
turco, o italiano e o
australiano. A análise das páginas discute o discurso
institucional dos serviços em
duas esferas: a verbal e a visual. A análise verbal
focaliza a declaração de
missão/lema dessas instituições e a análise visual
contempla as imagens e o layout
[en] National intelligence services are institutions which have
traditionally
avoided public scrutiny and whose activities have been
clothed in some mistery.
This study investigates the home page of three national
intelligence services: the
Turkish, the Italian and the Australian. The analysis
examines two aspects of the
institutional discourse of the services: the verbal and
the visual. The verbal
analysis centers on the institutional mission
statement/motto and the visual
analysis focuses on images and layout of the pages as a
whole. The verbal
analysis is based on Halliday's functional grammar (1994)
and critical discourse
analysis. The verbal analysis draws on Kress and van
Leeuwen's theory of
multimodality (1996). The results suggest that, although
the presence of national
intelligence services on the internet may seem to be a
step forward toward a more
transparent relationship with the general public, very
little is actually said about
specific principles, objectives and modus operandi these
institutions guide
themselves.

Network Performance of HTML5 Web Application in SmartphoneRegmi, Saroj Sharan, Adhikari, Suyog Man Singh January 2011 (has links)
Hypertext markup language 5 (HTML5), a new standard for HTML, enriched with additional features is expected to override all the basic underlying overhead needed by other applications. By the advent of new extension, HTML5, the web’s basic language is transplanted from a simple page layout into rich web application development language. Furthermore, with the release of HTML5, traditional browsing is expected to change and modify accordingly and on the other hand the potential users will have an alternative rather than sticking in platform and OS dependent native applications. This thesis deals with the readiness assessment of HTML5 with regard to different smart phones- Android and Windows. In order to visualize the fact, we analyzed different constraints like DNS lookup time, page loading time, memory and CPU consumption associated with two applications-Flash and HTML5 running right through the smart phones. Furthermore, the comparative analysis is performed in different network scenarios- Wi-Fi and 3G and user experience is estimated based on network parameters. From the experiments and observations taken, we found that android phones provide better support for HTML5 web applications than windows mobile devices. Also, the HTML5 applications loading time is limited by the browser rendering time rather that the content loading time from the network and is also dependent on hardware configuration of device used.

Identification of a transducin (beta)-like 3 protein as a potential biomarker of prediabetes from rat urine using proteomicsMofokeng, Henrietta Refiloe January 2010 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc / Obesity is a globally increasing disease particularly in developing countries and among children. It is mainly caused by intake of diets high in fat and the lack of physical activity. Obesity is a risk factor for diseases such as type II diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and certain cancers. Prediabetes is a condition where blood glucose levels are above normal but have not reached those of diabetes. It is difficult to diagnose, as there are no signs or symptoms. Some type II diabetes patients bear no symptoms at all and the disease is discovered late. Proteomics is a field that can provide opportunities for early diagnosis of diseases through biomarker discovery. The early diagnosis of diabetes can assist in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Therefore there is a need for the early diagnosis of diabetes. Twenty Wistar rats were used. The rats were initially fed a CHOW diet, which is the standard balanced diet for rats, for 4 weeks. The rats were then divided into 2 groups of 10 where 1 group was fed CHOW and another was fed a high fat (HF) diet in order to induce obesity. The two groups were fed their respective diets for 18 weeks. Rats were weighed. Rats were placed in metabolic chambers and 24 hour urine samples were collected. Ketone levels were measured by Ketostix. Urine proteins were precipitated by acetone, quantified and separated on both the 1D SDS-PAGE and the 2D SDS-PAGE. Protein expression changes between CHOW and HF fed rats were determined and identified using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Protein spots intensities increased and decreased between the CHOW and HF fed rats. Transducin (beta)-like 3 was identified as the only differentially expressed protein, which might serve as a potential biomarker for prediabetes. / South Africa

Previous issue date: 2013-09-23 / Seminal plasma is a complex of secretions of the accessory reproductive organs of males with effects on sperm function. The quality of seminal plasma proteins may contribute to the fertility of bulls. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of season on the morphologic characteristics of the testes, epididymis, sperm and seminal plasma proteins by SDS-PAGE in Bos taurus indicus and Bos taurus taurus, bulls raised extensively. In this study 5 Nellore and 2 Simmental bulls, wewe used evaluated the scrotal and testicular morphometry, semen quality and the seminal plasma protein profile in SDS-PAGE in the dry and rainy seasons. Was obtained for a testicular volume TV = 460.14 cm3 during the rainy season and TV = 571.26 cm3 in the dry season. With respect to Zebu, in the rainy season the TV was 524.75 cm3 and 515.13 cm3 in the dry season. Sperm motility in the dry season for the taurine and total sperm defects in the rainy season for this same group of animals, showed as critical situation in the seminal analysis, suggesting the same attention when selecting bulls for purposes of natural mating. it is observed in 100% of the samples of the protein bands of 14 kDa, 21 kDa and 65 kDa in two stations evaluated. The seasons influence on morphology, and semen. The subspecies taurine showed great plasticity testicular volumes reflected in the testicle that reduces the rainy season. With respect to morphology, we found that there were significant effects of the dry season, improving the quality of sperm morphology. For electrophoresis, it was verified the presence of a large diversity of protein bands present in seminal plasma, and the bands 14, 21 and 65 kDa present in all the animals studied subspecies stations. It is suggested that the three protein bands found in all samples probably have beneficial action in relation to the framework sperm of bulls, collaborating with fertility.

Nové metody segmentace webových stránek / New Web Page Segmentation MethodsMalaník, Michal January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this work is to introduce a new vision based web page segmentation method. This method is based on very popular VIPS segmentation algorithm, which is trying to represent the segmented web document in the same way as it is perceived by a user using a web browser. Compared to the VIPS algorithm, there are some optimizations for modern websites in our method, especially for documents created in the HTML 5 language. We also deal with the implementaion of the proposed method using the FITLayout framework.

Vliv teploty a sucha na obsah proteinů gliadinové a gluteninové frakce u čtyř odrůd pšenice / Impact of temperature and drought on gliadins and glutenins contents in four varieties of wheatTomasz, Teresa January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with an influence of high temperature and water shortage on the protein content of gliadin and glutenin fractions in four varieties of winter wheat: Bohemia, Tobak, Pannonia and var. Syria with designation S46 (IG142780). The crop was grown at 26, 29, 32, 35, 38 and 41 °C during anthesis under control irrigation treatment (with soil moisture higher than 70 %) or under drought stress (with soil moisture lower than 30 %). To separate gliadins, the A-PAGE method was used, and glutenins were separated by SDS-PAGE method. Proteins were quantified by computer densitometry. Significant influence of genotype on the gluten proteins was found. Variety Pannonia has high content of -, 5-gliadins, LMW and HMW glutenins, but low content of other gliadin fractions. It was the opposite in the other varieties. Due to temperature, as well as drought, there was an increase in the content of all gluten fractions, especially of HMW glutenins, 1,2-gliadins and total gliadins. The largest increase in the gluten fractions due to drought was observed in Syria variety. In other varieties simultaneous exposure to drought and heat caused decrease in gliadin content, but increase in glutenin content. Drought at high temperatures reduced gliadin-to-glutenin ratio, mostly in Bohemia variety. This ratio has increased due to the temperature, especially in Tobak variety. For Syria variety, no effect of stress conditions was found on gliadin-to-glutenin ratio.

Evaluation of tools for automatedacceptance testing of webapplications / Utvärdering av verktyg förautomatiserad acceptanstestningav webbapplikationerAl-Qaysi, Bashar, Björk, Sara January 2016 (has links)
Auddly provides a music management tool that gathers all information about a musical piece in oneplace. The acceptance testing on their web application is done manually, which has become bothtime and money consuming. To solve this problem, an evaluation on automated acceptance testingwas done to find a testing tool suitable for their web application. The evaluation was performed byfinding the current existing testing strategies to later compare the tools implementing these strategies. When analyzing the results it was found that two testing strategies were best suited for automatedacceptance testing. The Visual Recognition strategy that identifies components using screenshotsand the Record and Replay strategy that identifies them by their underlying ID. The choice betweenthem depends on which of these properties are modified more often. It was also found that automating acceptance testing is best applied for regression testing, otherwiseit should be performed with a manual approach. It was made clear that the Selenium tool, which uses the Record and Replay strategy, was best suitedfor Auddly’s acceptance testing. Selenium is able to test AJAX-calls with a manual modificationand is a free and open source tool with a large community.

Segmentation de pages web, évaluation et applications / Web page segmentation, evaluation and applicationsSanoja Vargas, Andrés 22 January 2015 (has links)
Web pages are becoming more complex than ever, as they are generated by Content Management Systems (CMS). Thus, analyzing them, i.e. automatically identifying and classifying different elements from Web pages, such as main content, menus, among others, becomes difficult. A solution to this issue is provided by Web page segmentation which refers to the process of dividing a Web page into visually and semantically coherent segments called blocks. The quality of a Web page segmenter is measured by its correctness and its genericity, i.e. the variety of Web page types it is able to segment. Our research focuses on enhancing this quality and measuring it in a fair and accurate way. We first propose a conceptual model for segmentation, as well as Block-o-Matic (BoM), our Web page segmenter. We propose an evaluation model that takes the content as well as the geometry of blocks into account in order to measure the correctness of a segmentation algorithm according to a predefined ground truth. The quality of four state of the art algorithms is experimentally tested on four types of pages. Our evaluation framework allows testing any segmenter, i.e. measuring their quality. The results show that BoM presents the best performance among the four segmentation algorithms tested, and also that the performance of segmenters depends on the type of page to segment. We present two applications of BoM. Pagelyzer uses BoM for comparing two Web pages versions and decides if they are similar or not. It is the main contribution of our team to the European project Scape (FP7-IP). We also developed a migration tool of Web pages from HTML4 format to HTML5 format in the context of Web archives.

Analyzing the Elements on ASOS’s Product Pages that Attract and Impact User Purchase IntentionGullbing, Natalie, Kristensen, Caroline January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to get an idea of what impact different elements and information has on a product page in order for the user to be inclined to purchase the product. Furthermore this research will look into the possible differences and/or similarities between genders. The data that was used in this study was obtained through a descriptive research design, specifically a survey involving structured direct observations and semi-structured interviews. This research found that the elements that were deemed the most essential in order for participants to purchase a product were the different pictures of the product and different colour alternatives. Many behavioural similarities between genders were found along with some differences. Differences such as the time it takes to decide whether or not to make a purchase was discovered. This study offers valid insights in the interactions between users and product pages with the additional focus on the differences between genders. Some limitations for this study was the fact that the sample group was relatively small, the testing was only conducted on one website, and all of the participants identified as either men and women, hence not including binary, pangender, transgender etc.
