O percurso discursivo da violência em Homens de Papel, de Plínio Marcos / The discursive path of violence in Paper Men, by Plínio Marcos

Almeida, Jahilda Lourenço de 01 March 2010 (has links)
Our purpose in this work is to follow the paths covered by violence in the speech of Plínio Marcos characters, in Paper Men. In this sense we defend the thesis that, violence follows a different way in the action of the oppressor and in the action of the oppressed.. To prove our intent, we rely on the theoretical support of the Ethno Methodological Conversation Analysis, Interactional Sociolinguistics and Speech Analysis. Having this in mind, we designed the analysis of the characters language, taking into account the interaction context, increasing the value of linguistics and extra linguistics facts that are important for the production of sense effects. Among these facts, there are factors related to social identity and to internal conditions which contribute to the onset of violence in the speech. We start from the assumption that the violent action of the oppressor is calculated and measured whereas the action of the oppressed is impulsive and hasty. In this way, we try to show how the intention represents a decisive factor in producing sense effects within the language usage. In the voice of the oppressor, the intention of dominating is shown by means of strategies and references whose objective is to feed the simulation scheme, besides embarrassing and terrifying the pickers. In the action of the oppressed, immersed in a complete breakdown, the insults and offenses represent a way of expressing feelings and unbalanced emotions that pile up and explode with a call for a brutal act and lynching. All that is expressed through the language that gives life to the text, thanks to the authors ability in building up spontaneous dialogues that are very close to the real life.

Parcours et dédalités dans les formations aux métiers de la Relation: en-jeux d’alternances. Entretiens auprès de 4 néo-diplômés en soins infirmiers. / Course and dédalités in relationship work training: challenges of alternations. Interviews with four newly graduated nurses.

Bartholome, Cécile 31 January 2019 (has links)
The changes in nurse training and its inclusion as part of the university system since July 2009 allow for a reassessment of the system of alternation in its skills-based approach. This new partnership, between the Nursing School, the student internship placements, and the University, requires clarification of this complex network. New features, such as the portfolio and practice analysis, are part of an intersubjective dialogue to help students build their skills. They can do more than train to join a human-oriented profession, they can also transform themselves for a human-oriented profession based on Relationships, through the challenges of alternations in the system and challenges of alternations in a reciprocal and recurrent Relationship which participates in a co-construction of the training path and the co-emergence of each student. In this context, we chose to consider the student’s training path in terms of a percursus, a voyage of initiation with a peratological approach. The student becomes transformed between his professional aspirations and singular possibilities, in a unique path examined through the symbolism of 3 labyrinths: unicursal, Irrweg, rhizome. In this manner, through this process of enaction, with a part of mètis, he could be Daedalus, at once the architect, master, and artisan of his own complex training path. In this way the student can construct himself, and interact in a relationship with others and himself, as he navigates this dédalités. In order to examine this training path, we conducted non-directive interviews with four newly graduated nurses. These interviews were carried out according to two formats: a content analysis by categories and a statistical approach. The main results are interpreted in terms of dédalités and labyrinthine paths, between Movements, Spaces, and Relationships. As practitioners/researchers, our own involvement was called into question, in a subjective process in which our role as a practitioner enriched our role as a researcher, which enriched our role as… navigating our own unique path, which was also called into question in this work.

MULTI-DRONE CONTROL SYSTEM

Norlin, Simon, Songmahadthai, David January 2019 (has links)
Planning and controlling traffic for multiple drones in a system without intercommunication betweenthe drones is a daunting proposition. This paper presents a thesis work developing a multi-dronecontrol system capable of planning and executing missions in a 3-D aerial space. Generic 2-D pathplanning algorithms are extended into the 3-D space to handle multiple parts of the path planning, creating highways through a gridded area which is used as obstacles for other drones.Three path planning algorithm are compared with other each other wavefront, Astar and po-tential fields, scheduling is also documented to find the optimal drone amount that the system canhandle given an area of interest, this is done to see how often and for how long drones stand idle.Simulations and equations have been implemented to verify and compare results.

Novel techniques to enhance LTE and WiMAX throughput indoors and at the cell-edge for femtocells using MIMO

Alshami, Mohamed Hassan Ahmed January 2014 (has links)
Strong demand for wireless communications encourages academic research centres and industrial electronics and communication companies to keep improving the performance, increase the speed, extend the coverage area and enlarge the baud rate and capacity. LTE (Long Term Evolution) and WiMAX (the Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access) are recent solutions for most wireless technologies. LTE and WiMAX coverage range are one of the important factors that affect the quality of broadband access services and mobile cellular systems in wireless communication. Predicting and evaluating the path loss is essential in planning and designing cellular mobile systems. This thesis presents a comprehensive study of path loss on LTE and mobile WiMAX to achieve large throughputs and wide coverage at the Cell-edge. The thesis introduces, analyzes and compares the path loss values, based on LTE and WiMAX standard at one carrier frequency, namely 3.5GHz and a variation of distances in the range of 1 to 50 km, in flat rural, suburban and urban environments. The thesis discusses and implements the Okumura, Hata, Cost-231, Ericsson, Erceg, Walfish, Ecc-33, Lee and the simplified free space path loss models. The objectives of path loss evaluation results are to calculate the link budget, the power outage and the base station cell coverage area for mobile cellular systems. A femtocell (FMC) is a low cost low power cellular home base station, operating in licensed spectrum. Because of the requirement for high data rates and improved coverage indoors, FMC provides a solution to these requirements. FMC is deployed mainly indoors and sometimes outdoors at the cell-edge to increase the area of coverage, capacity and in order to enhance the received signal in the user’s premises. The thesis presents the interference, SINR and the probability of connection for the downlink with different numbers of FMCs based on LTE and WiMAX OFDMA. Moreover, comparisons of interference, SINR and probability of connection for three different numbers of FMCs and for three different indoor areas are presented. In addition, a comparison for the probability of connection with various threshold values and numbers of FMCs is simulated and presented in 3-D. The probability of connection for a varied number of FMCs is a guide study to find the appropriate number of FMCs that could serve a specific indoor area and the proper number of UEs in the specified area. The thesis also presents the interference, SINR and the probability of connection at the uplink for a user equipment device (UE) to an FMC with varied number of UEs based on LTE and WiMAX OFDMA. Moreover, comparisons of the interference, SINR and probability of connection for three different areas at the uplink are presented. Therefore, analyzing probability of connection with varied number of UEs is a worthy study in order to identify the appropriate number of UEs that could be served by a specific number of FMCs at a specific indoor location. The thesis presents and investigates the capacity of MIMO with the presence of FMCs to perform cancellation of co-channel interference. The research introduces algorithms to calculate the capacity of MIMO with the presence of FMCs by two models. The simulation results show that the capacity equations of model-2 give better results than the capacity equations of model-1. Therefore, model-2 is used for the interference cancellation of MIMO in the presence of MIMO. Interference cancellation is performed at the downlink when the signal is transmitted from FMC to UE by mitigating and cancelling the interference which comes from the neighbouring FMCs to the target UE. The thesis introduces, explains and applies a novel algorithm to calculate the capacity of MIMO at the presence of FMCs with interference cancellation by these channel equalizers ZF, MMSE, VBLAST ZF, VBLAST MMSE and VBLAST OFDM MMSE.

Enacting product-service business models : the role of lean thinking

Morrey, Nicola January 2013 (has links)
As competitively tendering for work is becoming increasingly difficult, and with profit margins reducing, UK construction companies are looking to differentiate their offering to clients. Safely delivering on time, within budget and to the required quality standard is no longer a differentiator in a market where clients are demanding increased value, building information modelling and life cycle provision. Construction companies are therefore looking to extend their activities into business consulting, financing and operational services, which will provide new sources of revenue in addition to their core production activities. This holistic service should provide solutions that meet their client s business needs, not just their building needs, ultimately resulting in long-standing relationships that over time yield a more predictable, long-term return. Over half of the top 20 UK construction companies, by turnover, have stated their intent to provide solutions to their clients - the case study organisation in which this research has been carried out is one of those companies. Part of a group of companies, the case study company, Shepherd Construction Ltd (SCL), has a vision to deliver integrated solutions to their clients, with the ultimate aim being that companies across the group can pool their expertise and deliver a service offering unique to the industry. Existing literature states the characteristics that integrated solutions providers need to possess, and proposes models for how an organisation needs to structure itself to deliver a service. However, the applicability of these models to SCL was unknown, and along with current literature on how to enact the transition pathway being vague, highlighted an area for investigation. Since the aim of integrated solutions provision is the delivery of a service to the client that adds value, it was proposed that lean thinking could provide a means of enacting the P-S transition: the starting point for lean thinking is value (Womack & Jones, 2003). Lean thinking principles (Womack & Jones, 2003) state that value needs to flow through the value stream the series of actions that transform inputs into the completed output raising the further proposition that flow is required through the stages of the integrated solutions lifecycle (the value stream) in order to successfully deliver all aspects of the client s value proposition, i.e. the desired solution. As a long established main-contractor, or product provider, SCL s challenge to transition from products-to-services was set against a backdrop of inconsistent performance and loss of continuity of service at crucial pinch-points in the delivery process. The action research carried out therefore sought to understand these problems and develop practices based on lean thinking that could be implemented in the company to enable consistent delivery of integrated solutions, i.e. enable the products-to-service transition, and in doing so provide the basis for the wider group vision. An abductive approach was taken to the research strategy; the experiences of the participants involved in the changes prompted by the action research process were used to inform the development of new theories and practices, and evaluate them once implemented. The methods used for collecting data and accounting for the experiences of people in the company included observation, both participant and non-participant, semi-structured interviews and analysis of company records. The research findings show that lean thinking has a role to play in enabling an organisation to transition from the provision of products to services. Standard processes and tools, based on lean thinking and developed through the action research framework, are shown to be the basis for consistent and repeatable performance within the phases of the integrated solutions lifecycle. Flow of information through and between phases of the lifecycle is then shown to be essential to ensuring the client s value proposition is realised and information is not lost during the transitions between lifecycle phases. The operational framework for service delivery , one of the practices developed, itself a form of standardised work, draws on lean thinking to provide a structured, yet flexible, means of developing a plan for service delivery that is focused on the client and ensuring the client s definition of value flows through the integrated solutions value stream and is therefore continually understood, and ultimately delivered, by the whole team as the project progresses. The practices developed through the research the standard company management system, operational framework for service delivery , service delivery plan and maturity assessment are shown to have improved consistency and company performance, and to have contributed to improved customer satisfaction (the ultimate aim of delivering a service) such that the company is starting to be perceived in the marketplace as an integrated solutions provider. This research also contributes to existing theory by evidencing that the transition pathway from products-to-services isn t as smooth as current literature portrays. In trying to implement current models in a construction setting, the products-to-service transition has been problematised and deficiencies in existing characteristics and models identified. Along with showing that lean thinking provides a theoretical framework for enacting the products-to-service transition, the hybrid model of the integrated solutions lifecycle developed, along with the maturity assessment, provide new theoretical insights, such as the need for feedback loops between all phases of the lifecycle.

From Qualitative to Quantitative: Supporting Robot Understanding in Human-Interactive Path Planning

Yi, Daqing 01 August 2016 (has links)
Improvements in robot autonomy are changing human-robot interaction from low-level manipulation to high-level task-based collaboration. When a robot can independently and autonomously executes tasks, a human in a human-robot team acts as a collaborator or task supervisor instead of a tele-operator. When applying this to planning paths for a robot's motion, it is very important that the supervisor's qualitative intent is translated into aquantitative model so that the robot can produce a desirable consequence. In robotic path planning, algorithms can transform a human's qualitative requirement into a robot's quantitative model so that the robot behavior satisfies the human's intent. In particular, algorithms can be created that allow a human to express multi-objective and topological preferences, and can be built to use verbal communication. This dissertation presents a series of robot motion-planning algorithms, each of which is designed to support some aspect of a human's intent. Specifically, we present algorithms for the following problems: planning with a human-motion constraint, planning with a topological requirement, planning with multiple objectives, and creating models of constraints, requirements, and objectives from verbal instructions. These algorithms create a set of robot behaviors that support flexible decision-making over a range of complex path-planning tasks.

Modeling Transportation Planning Applications via Path Flow Estimator

Ryu, Seungkyu 01 May 2015 (has links)
The Path Flow Estimator (PEE) concept was originally developed to estimate path flows (hence origin-destination flows) and link flows for a whole road network (given some counts at selected roads). It is now further developed as an alternative for modeling different transportation planning applications: (1) a bicycle network analysis tool for non-motorized transportation planning, (2) a multi-class traffic assignment model for freight planning, and (3) a simplified travel demand forecasting framework for small community planning. The first application of the redeveloped PFE is to develop a two-stage bicycle traffic assignment model for estimating/predicting bicycle volumes on a transportation network. The first stage considers key criteria (e.g., distance related attributes, safety related attributes, air quality related attributes etc.) to generate a set of non-dominated (or efficient) paths, while the second stage adopts several traffic assignment methods to determine the flow allocations to the network. This two-stage approach can be used as a stand-alone bicycle traffic assignment to the transportation network given a bicycle origin-destination (O-D) matrix. The second application aims to enhance the realism of traffic assignment models for freight planning by incorporating different modeling considerations into the multi-class traffic assignment problem. These modeling considerations involve developing both model formulation and customized solution algorithm, which in turn involve asymmetric interactions among different vehicle types (i.e., cars versus trucks), a path-size logit (PSL) model (for accounting random perceptions of network conditions with explicit consideration of route overlapping), and various traffic restrictions imposed either individually or together to multiple vehicle types in a transportation network. In the third application, a simplified planning framework is developed to perform planning applications in small communities where limited planning resources hinder the development and application of a full four-step model. Two versions (i.e., base year and future year) of the PFE are proposed to address the specific transportation planning issues and needs of small communities. These new PFE developments for planning applications are tested with different realistic transportation networks. The results suggest that the new PFE applications proposed in this dissertation provide an alternative to the traditional four-step travel demand forecasting model that can be used as a stand-alone application with better modeling capability and fewer resources.
