Experimental Investigation of the Acoustic Properties of Perforate using Acoustic Three-PortsShah, Shail A. January 2022 (has links)
This thesis discusses the aero-acoustic characterisation of a perforate sample using a three-port technique. A rectangular T-junction with a flush mounted perforated sample at the intersection form the acoustical three-port. Under acoustic excitation from three different directions a direct method of impedance determination is incorporated to experimentally determine the passive acoustic properties of the perforate. The three-port scattering matrix and the normalised transfer impedance are calculated in the presence of grazing flow and for high-level excitation and the behaviour of these characteristics is studied. Validation of the determined results in the linear range is carried out by comparing it with existing models. Moreover, based on the experimental results for low grazing flow velocities the dependence of the real part of the transfer impedance on the grazing flow parameters as well as dimensionless numbers is described, and a semi-empirical model quantifying the behaviour is proposed. Furthermore, the thesis explains some experimental errors pertaining to standing wave patterns and operating conditions, and corrections are suggested to reduce the errors. / <p>QC 221007</p>

Development of a CFD / Acoustic simulation method to study the influence of background flow on silencers performance / Utveckling av en CFD / Akustisk simuleringsmetod för att studera påverkan av bakgrundsflöde på ljuddämparens prestandaFang, Siye January 2022 (has links)
The noise propagating through the truck exhaust system is often attenuated by after treatment systems including truck silencers. The acoustic simulation of the truck silencers is usually based on pressure acoustics which does not include the influence of background flow. However, background flow can affect the acoustic attenuation ability of the truck silencers a lot. This thesis presents a simulation method for investigating the influence of the background mean flow on the silencers. In this method, the fluid information is first simulated with CFD software STAR-CCM+. The fluid data is then imported into COMSOL to conduct acoustic simulation using Linearized Navier-Stokes modulus. Flow noise is not simulated in this method in order to well capture the background mean flow's effect on the performance of silencer in a relatively short calculation time. Two simple silencer model groups are studied to validate this method. The first is a Helmholtz resonator. Another model group is expansion chambers with different setups. The sensitivity of the model towards different model setup is also studied. In the last part of the work, the method is applied to a common truck silencer model CAS1 F1gen, when this method counters challenge of high calculation load. A hybrid method is then developed, combining pressure acoustics and Linearized Navier-Stokes study, to simplify the method, reduce calculation time and at the same time capture the background mean flow's influence on silencers.

Propriétés acoustiques de systèmes incorporant des plaques micro-perforées et des matériaux absorbants sous forts niveaux d'excitation / Acoustical properties of systems incorporating microperforated plates and absorbing materials under high level of excitationTayong Boumda, Rostand 29 November 2010 (has links)
This work deals with the acoustical properties of systems incorporating Micro-Perforated Panels (MPP) and absorbing materials under high level of excitation. In the first chapter, absorbent systems composed of an air-cavity backed MPP are studied at high level of excitations. An analytical model involving two dimensionless parameters and an optimum Mach number is proposed. This model describes the behavior of the maximum of absorption coefficient (absorption coefficient at the resonance) with respect to the Mach number inside the perforations. A formula is proposed that predicts the variations of the absorption peak with the acoustical Mach number. In the second chapter, the holes interaction effects are studied theoretically and experimentally under high levels of excitations. Following an equivalent fluid approach, a model for which the tortuosity is corrected to account for the holes interaction effects coupled to the jet-like effects is developed. Multi-layered absorbents composed of MPP and porous materials are then studied under high level of excitations. The case where the multi-layers are directly attached to a rigid wall and the case where there is an air cavity before the rigid wall are examined. Forchheimer's law is used to model each medium of the multi-layer and the use of the transfer matrix method is made to account for these media.Sound transmission study under high level of excitation is introduced. The perspectives of this work are numerous and promising in the acoustics of transportation systems applications.

Nová Jižní čtvrť a její propojení s řekou Svratkou / New South District and its Connection to SvratkaMusilová, Michaela Unknown Date (has links)
Architectual study deals with the design of an apartment building in the new south district in Brno – area the south from the existing main station. Living close to the Svratka river and concurrently near historic centre are the greatest potentials of the territory. Another similar place does not exist anywhere in Brno. The project follows plans of building a new main station of the city. This includes extensive transport infrastructure. The new district is connected to the Brno boulevard and also to „highline“ park on the historic viaduct. The area was not built till today, although it is really attractive and unusual place in the city. The main reason is flood area located here. Nowadays a city administration is preparing a new zoning plan, which suggests many flood control measures. In my thesis I am interested in one block of buildings from the new district, which is situated close to the river. One of these apartment buildings is designed in more detail. This is the coner object located near the square. The house is composed of eight floors – two underground and six upper floors. Garages are located underground. Entrance area for residents, technical background and some home-office units are planed on the first storey. The part of the first floor is rentable – coner space for cafe or bar. Upper floors have only resident function. Varied flats are two-rooms to five-rooms. A part of proposal is also outdoor spaces. They are very significant for really beautiful views to the waterfront, the river and adjancent park. All housing units have loggia, balcony or terrace. Home-office units on the first floor are completed with private gadens in the courtyard. Roof apartments are favored for theirs private roof gardens. But a part of roof green terraces is available for all residents of the house.

Etude aéroacoustique de la détente d'un écoulement haute pression à travers des plaques perforées / Aeroacoustic study of the expansion of a high pressure flow though perforated platesLaffay, Paul 10 July 2019 (has links)
The noise generated by the expansion of a pressurized flow through multi-perforated plates or diaphragms is experimentally investigated. The analysis is conducted on two distinct geometrical configurations in which the perforated plate is placed at the outlet of (free jet configuration) or inside (ducted jet configuration) a cylindrical duct.Firstly, an acoustic parametric study is carried out on these two configurations for various perforated plate geometries and for a number of operating points ranging from subsonic to supersonic. The different acoustic sources that can arise from such systems are thus identified. Furthermore, the effect of each geometrical parameter onto the radiated sound field is highlighted, thus providing guidelines for the silent design of such pressure release devices. In a second step, the focus is on the dominant broadband component, that is, the mixing noise. This part of the study is dedicated to the free jet configuration and is based on Schlieren imaging, as well as on Particle Image Velocimetry measurements, both coupled far-field sound measurements. In the diaphragm cases, the aerodynamic results show that the source mechanisms are similar to those reported in the literature about isolated jets from conventional nozzles. The downstream radiation is generated by the interaction of large coherent structures at the end of the jet potential core, while in the other directions it is generated by the small-scale turbulence from the shear layer. For multi-perforated plates, comparable mechanisms are also observed. However, depending on the plate geometry, two distinct source regions contributing to the downstream radiation are identified. They explain the presence of two broadband humps in the far-field spectra. In the case of widely spaced perforations, the higher frequency hump in the downstream spectrum increases and the interaction of the large turbulent structures occurs mainly at the end of the potential core of the small jets issuing the perforations. Conversely, when these perforations are close to each other, the small jets rapidly merge into a single larger one that has a longer potential core. As a result, larger coherent structures interact downstream of the small jet mixing region and therefore, a low-frequency hump dominates the downstream spectrum. In the other directions, the perforation spacing has also a significant impact on the acoustic radiation, due to a more or less rapid interaction of the jets. Consequently, the turbulence, as well as the shear zones of the various mixing layers, are modified. The geometric parameters thus have similar effects on the cross-stream as on the downstream radiation.

The theme of the development of the existing sports grounds was dealt with Based on a number of analyzes, visits to the site and communication with the community management, the theme of the development of the existing sports grounds was dealt with. The whole territory is up to a football field in a very maintained conditions. There are two smaller accommodation facilities, which are seasonally used mainly by schools in nature and other students, but their condition is quite unsatisfactory. The soccer field, which is the only one maintained, belongs to the existing base of soccer players - the dressing room with the clubhouse. Their condition is also somewhat aggravated. In the current spatial plan, the whole proposed area is at the interface of two areas, the first is the area of sport and individual recreation and the second is the area to be examined. Urban design is based on the location of the existing soccer field and the preservation or improvement of existing links to the surrounding area. Most of the paved areas will be overtaken. Part of the design of the development of sports activities in the village was also to find a possible solution for parking for tourists, for which there is no free space in the village. The chosen location is advantageous in that, when a parking lot will be created, it will be created near the main entrance to the village on road II. Cl. No. 420 from Hustopeče through the village. Architectonically, but also conceptually, the construction is based on the economic possibilities of the municipality, the possibilities of variability of the solution and especially of the possibilities of staging construction. The result are two buildings. One main, replacing the background of spccer players, creates the conditions for year-round training in the new gym, for going to fitness, while part of the building is a platform for the soccer field. The second building is an accommodation that replaces the existing unsatisfactory buildings. Architecturally, they are masses that are greatly affected by the modules. The building structure and the facilities of the sports hall are structurally designed from standardized modular systems, steel containers that are interconnected to create an unusual spectacle. The area of the gym is defined by a reinforced concrete skeleton. Both buildings are covered with gold anodized sheet metal, which is profiled similarly to the peripheral walls of the containers. At the same time, the object was to create year-round sports grounds that are accessible to the general public and youth.

Development of innovative methodologies to reduce railway rolling noise through Genetic Algorithm-based shape optimization techniquesGarcia Andrés, Xavier 15 March 2021 (has links)
[EN] Rolling noise phenomenon is produced due to the wheel/track interaction and induced by the small unevenness present in their surfaces. Such unevenness, known as "roughness", causes that vibrations arise in both the wheel and track when the train passes by with a certain speed, that consequently leads to the appearance of acoustic radiation. This kind of noise is one of the most relevant sources of annoyance and the principal focus of the railway acoustic pollution produced by trains operating through highly populated urban regions.
Thus, the main goal of the present Thesis is the development of a comprehensive methodology to achieve suitable railway wheel designs through the use of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) with the aim of minimizing the associated rolling noise.
When developing the aforementioned optimization algorithms, the Finite Element Method (FEM) is combined with the geometric parametrization of the different wheel design typologies analysed, described as a function of those parameters most relevant for the current research. In order to describe the dynamic behaviour of each component involved in the wheel/track interaction, use is made of linearised models in the frequency domain capable of solving the whole coupled dynamic response from the corresponding cross-section meshes.
Subsequent derivation of the radiated sound power from the dynamic information is carried out by applying a semi-analytical formulation that allows for the wheel acoustic efficiency computation, on one hand, and by making use of an Equivalent Sources Model (ESM) in the track, on the other hand. Besides, such theoretical development is validated with the reference commercial software in the field, TWINS, on which it is based.
Throughout the optimization procedures, a fatigue analysis is performed on every wheel design considered to assure structural feasibility, that acts as a "death penalty" constraint in the algorithm. Furthermore, a modal identification procedure is developed, which allows to characterize modeshapes and to classify them according to their number of nodal diameters and circumferences. Then, two different formulations of the objective function are explored: one focused on directly reducing radiated noise, named LA;W-min; and another centred on decreasing rolling noise by maximizing the average natural frequency of the modeshapes, called NF-max. Hence, in the LA;W -min methodology, the sum in energy of the wheel Sound poWer Level (SWL) expressed in dB(A) is minimized. For the NF-max case, natural frequencies are shifted to frequency regions where the roughness amplitude content is lower.
Different approaches are considered: the inclusion of perforation schemes in the wheel and the variation of its cross-sectional shape, setting the radius as a constant value in one case and using it as an optimization parameter in another. Moreover, the influence on the noise of changing the rail geometric and track viscoelastic properties is also studied.
As a result of the present Thesis, several quieter models of railway wheels have been achieved, with rolling noise reductions of up to 5 dB(A). When the whole railway system with all the components is considered, improvements in the radiated sound power remain achieved with the resulting wheel designs. Besides, correlations between maximization of natural frequencies and SWL mitigation are analysed, establishing the NF-max as a suitable methodology for cases when computational efficiency is prioritized. The sensitivity of the
problem to selected design domains and the suitability of the use of GAs are also studied with the obtention of Response Surfaces (RSs) for the geometric parameters used. Additionally, correlations are established between the variation of the geometric parameters and the decrease in the associated acoustic radiation, while the shifting of the modeshapes along the frequency domain is proposed as a physical mechanism responsible of the observed sound power decrease. / This thesis has been supported by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación and
