Managers in healthcare organizations and their interactions with the media

Wramsten Wilmar, Maria January 2016 (has links)
Background: The combination of three forces, the organizations’ desire for visibility, the citizens’ interest in the HSOs and the increasing pressure upon journalists to attract the interest of the audiences have all contributed to the fact that HSO managers nowadays have more interactions with the media than ever before. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to gain a deeper knowledge about HSO managers’ interaction with the media; their experience of the interaction, strategies and support. Method: The material of the study A was subject to a qualitative research approach along the lines of grounded theory, whereas content analysis was applied to study B. Results: The results show how the personal consequences as well as the consequences for their managerial practice vary in accordance with the extent to which the manager, the organization and the media attribute individual focus. The amount of support and from where within the organization the support was offered varied. When the managers did receive support from within their organization, it primarily came from co-workers or subordinates. Any strategies for interactions with the media were rarely organization-wide or even put into writing. Instead, they were defined by the managers themselves along the way. Discussion: The managers’ interactions with the media may be influenced both on a managerial and organizational level. Neither manager nor organization seem to profit from an individual focus, at least not in the long term. Conclusions: The result indicate the grade of reactions, stand in relation to the level of personification. Also the results suggests that this was influenced by the manager him- or herself, the organization as a whole and by the media. Managers tended to strive for an open and proactive strategy in relation to the media. They did not perceive much support and felt they were expected to handle the interactions with the media all on their own. / <p>QC 20160502</p>

"The conceit of this inconstant stay": Shakespeare's Philosophical Conquest of Time Through Personification

Roberson, Triche 05 August 2010 (has links)
Throughout the procreation sonnets and those numerous sonnets that promise immortality through verse for Shakespeare's beloved young man, the poet personifies time as an agent of relentlessly destructive change. Yet Shakespeare's approach to the personification of time, as well as his reactions to time, changes over the course of the sequence. He transforms his fear of and obsession with time as a destroyer typical of most sonnets to an attitude of mastery over the once ominous force. The act of contemplating time's power by personification provides the speaker with a deeper awareness of time, love, and mutability that allows him to form several new philosophies which resolve his fear. By the end of the sequence, the poet no longer fortifies himself and the beloved against time's devastation because his new outlook fosters an acceptance of time that opposes and thus negates his previous contention with this force.

(Great Wilderness): Paths of starting from that the religiosity in the work is present in Brazilian literature, and it is relevant at all times, because it concerns the popular culture of the people, with regional hinterlands traits. Addressing some ways how society prepares its imaginary about the demon figure, the devil figure often regulates the way of acting and thinking of the people according to the local culture in which they live, in this case the wilderness. The research Work of Grande Sertão: Veredas contributes to survey the specific situations of personification of evil and its main culture traits established by people who lived in a particular place. The analysis in its social-historical and cultural context is relevant to note and understand the interconnection and the interrelation of these situations of cultural regionalism and the relations of que religious phenomenon. For the academic field it means to deepen the knowledge of the religious phenomenon in relation to this literature concepts in the work Grande Sertão: Veredas contains narratives that reflect the realities of the existence of God and the Devil lived in the backcountry people culture. Here it can be seen the popular imagination in the devil figure, very present in the religious and popular culture in the work of Guimarães Rosa. Based on these principles, is intented to address the Devil’s existence raised by own narrator and protagonist, the roughneck Riobaldo. The devil appers throughout the work, in various metaphors or populars images involving good and evil, love and hate especially, saying and popular names of the devil and beliefs of religiosity present in the backcountry.

Transformation of logic programs : application to personalization and personification of agents

Dubus, Georges 04 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with personalization and personification of rational agents within the framework of web applications. Personalization and personification techniques are more and more used to answer the needs of users. Most of those techniques are based on reasoning tools that come from the artificial inteligence field. However, those techniques are usually used in an ad-hoc way for each application. The approach of this thesis is to consider personaliaation and personification as two instances of alteration of behaviour, and to study the alteration of the behaviours of rational agents. The main contributions are WAIG, a formalism for the expression of web applications based on the agent programming language Golog, and PAGE, a formal framework for the manipulation and the alteration of Golog agent programs, which allow to transform an agent automatically following a given criterion. Those contributions are illustrated by concrete scenarios from the fields of personalization and personification.

The World in a Book: Robert John Thornton's Temple of Flora (1797-1812)

Mollendorf, Miranda Andrea 14 October 2013 (has links)
I argue in my dissertation that Robert John Thornton's (1768?-1837) Temple of Flora (folio 1799-1807, quarto 1812), also entitled "The Universal Empire of Love," represents personified botanical flowers of the British Empire in a colonial microcosm where anthropomorphic plants are allegorized as Europe's others. This book was a collectible item with plates issued in a series of subscriptions, which were always bound in different combinations so that no two copies were ever the same--a book that depicts a metamorphic view of nature through a series of alterations made to the individual plates, which reflects the diversity of exotic and familiar territories in the world and the mysteries within it. Thornton chose plants, flower symbolism, and landscape backgrounds "with scenery appropriated to their subject," to encapsulate the universe as a series of botanical scenes of exotic and familiar territories of Britain's past and present, and this botanical world includes four continents of the world symbolically represented as women through the relationship between image and text, the diversity of people and naturalia within these territories, and the passage of historical and chronological time. TheTemple of Flora is a textual space that involves strategies of possessing and knowing nature through the collection and conquest of plants that represent the colonial inhabitants of the British Empire ensconced in their territories and collected by wealthy Britons as a miniature colonial and exotic world bound between two covers. / History of Science

Les "personnifications des provinces orientales" sur l'architecture romaine / Personifications of easterns provinces in Roman architecture

Ansel, Christelle 25 March 2015 (has links)
This subject consists of the study of monuments and images of provinces in the Roman Empire.

A Familiar Context : A survey and comparison of mathematical language in the most widely-used mathematics textbook and in the standardized national tests for grade 6 students in Sweden.

Gunnarsson, Hugo January 2017 (has links)
A Familiar Context - a survey and comparison of mathematical language in the most widely-used mathematics textbook and in the standardized national tests for grade 6 students in Sweden. Studies have shown that language has a crucial role when students learn mathematics but there is a lack of empirical surveys mapping how mathematical language is used in different practices. One aspect of mathematical language called personification, which is associated with something that generates personal interest or contributes with a familiar context, seems to affect low-performing students in a negative way in their problem solving in the subjects of algebra and geometry. The overall aim of this study is to perform an empirical survey and analysis over how the personification of the mathematical language is used in the most commonly used mathematics textbook and the standardized national tests for students in grade 6 in Sweden. To answer this purpose, two research questions have been formulated: To what extent are natural language, mathematical imagery and mathematical symbols personalized in the field of algebra and geometry? How do typical mathematical tasks differ in the subjects of algebra and geometry? Method: Selected mathematical tasks from the most commonly used mathematics textbook and the national tests were analyzed in regards to personification. These selected tasks were also analyzed in regards to the concepts, metonymy and metaphor which can be used to distinguish the core of natural language in mathematical tasks. Results: There are differences between the uses of personification in the subjects of algebra and geometry. Personification was also found to be more common in the national tests than in the mathematics textbook. A comparison between the typical tasks from each subject area in the mathematics textbook and the national tests also showed that metaphorical form, a concept like personification associated with familiar context, is used more in the national tests than in the mathematics book. Conclusions: A clear difference in the use of personification and metaphorical form between textbooks and standardized national tests in mathematics for year 6 students was identified. Such differences in language usage may impair mathematics knowledge assessment. It is therefore important to make authors aware of how language use can affect a student's problem solving ability and raises the question as to whether personification and metaphorical form should be included in testing mathematical knowledge?
