Das "Rossijskij institut istorii iskusstv" (Russisches Institut für die Geschichte der Künste) in St. Petersburg ist neben dem Moskauer "Institut iskusstvoznanija" das zweite russische Forschungsinstitut im geisteswissenschaftlichen Bereich. Obwohl um einiges älter als die seit 1944 existierende Moskauer Einrichtwlg vergleichbaren Zuschnitts - es wurde 1912 vom Grafen Zubov in seinem Palais gegenüber der Isaaks-Kathedrale gegründet - ist das Petersburger Institut im Westen wenig beachtet worden. Die wechselvolle Geschichte dieser Forschungsinstitution, die als Wiege der Formalistenschule um Viktor Sklovskij in die Annalen der modernen Geisteswissenschaften eingegangen ist, bedürfte noch einer eingehenden Untersuchung, wie sie hier nicht geleistet werden kann.

In den größten Städten Russlands werden aktuell Entwicklungstendenzen sichtbar, welche die Frage nach einem Ende der postsozialistischen Transformation aufwerfen. Ein Beispiel für derartige – posttransformative – Entwicklungstendenzen bildet die Planung und Verwirklichung ikonischer Architekturprojekte. Diese sollen vor allem Innovations- und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit symbolisieren. Vor Ort sind sie aber insbesondere dann umstritten, wenn sie die überkommenen städtebaulichen Traditionen in Frage stellen. Besonders gut zeigt sich das beim Ochta-Zentrum, einem Geschäfts- und Kulturzentrum mit 400 m hoher Dominante, das nach dem Willen des Gazprom-Konzerns am Rande der historischen Innenstadt Sankt Petersburgs errichtet werden sollte. In der Hochphase der Diskussion beschäftigte das Projekt nicht nur die Stadtbevölkerung, sondern auch die Führungsriege der Russischen Föderation und die UNESCO. Die Analyse des Diskurses über das Ochta-Zentrum ermöglicht daher ebenso Erkenntnisse über Tendenzen der Stadtentwicklung Sankt Petersburgs wie über Strategien der russischen Innen- und Außenpolitik. / Recent trends in the development of major Russian cities are raising questions about the end of post-socialist transformation. Post-transformative urban trends have become visible in the context of the planning and realization of iconic architectural projects. Their purpose is to symbolize a capacity for innovation and competitiveness. At the local level, however, they are subject to controversial debates, especially when challenging regional traditions of urban planning. The Okhta-Center, a business and cultural center with a skyscraper reaching a height of 400 m, serves as a good example. The Gazprom Group intended to build the complex at the edge of the historical city center of Saint Petersburg. During the height of the debate the project involved not only the citizens of Saint Petersburg, but also the leadership of the Russian Federation and UNESCO. Analyzing the discourse regarding the Okhta-Center therefore allows insights into current trends of urban development in Saint Petersburg as well as strategies of Russian domestic and foreign policies.

In this article I would like to attract attention to the personality of Ludwig Wilhelm Maurer. As a brilliant virtuoso violinist, known in Russia since 1817, conductor of the French theatre in St. Petersburg since 1835, inspector of all Emperor theatres since 1841 and conductor of the Philharmonic and Concert societies, Ludwig Maurer was an advocate of the classic inheritance.

Quase três séculos já se passaram desde que a primeira versão do chamado paradoxo de São Petersburgo chegou aos meios acadêmicos através do trabalho de Daniel Bernoulli. Contudo, a relevância desse assunto ainda reverbera em artigos científicos atuais em diversas áreas do conhecimento (notadamente, mas não exclusivamente, na Economia e na Estatística). Um jogo de enunciado simples cuja esperança matemática dos ganhos do jogador surpreendentemente é infinita, entretanto, dificilmente alguém estaria disposto a pagar qualquer taxa de entrada cobrada para jogá-lo. No presente trabalho buscou-se em primeiro lugar apresentar uma análise crítica do desenvolvimento histórico das \"soluções\" propostas para o paradoxo. Em seguida mostrou-se uma aplicação direta do paradoxo a um modelo matemático utilizado até hoje para avaliar o preço justo de ações. Por fim, revisaram-se alguns resultados obtidos pela moderna teoria da probabilidade através da convergência em probabilidade. / It has been almost three centuries since the first version of the so-called St. Petersburg Paradox has reached the academic environment through the work of Daniel Bernoulli. However, the relevance of this subject still reverberates in new scientific papers in many knowledge fields (especially, but not exclusively, in Economics and Statistics). A game with a simple rule in which the mathematical expectation of the player\'s gains is unexpectedly infinite but hardly someone would be willing to pay any asked entrance fee to play it. In this work we pursued at first to present a critical analysis on the historical development of the proposed \"solutions\" to the paradox. After that, we showed an application of the paradox to a mathematical model, that is still in use today, to obtain a fair price of a stock share. At last we reviewed some results given by the modern probability theory through the convergence in probability.

This thesis crafts a narrative about how Confederate soldiers during the siege of Petersburg experienced an intensified war that caused them to refine soldierly coping mechanisms in order to endure. They faced increasing deprivations, new forms of death, fewer restrictions on killing, dwindling fortunes, and increased racial acrimony by facing African American soldiers. In order to adjust, they relied on soldierly camaraderie, Southern notions of honor, letter writing, and an increasingly firm reliance on Protestant Christianity to cope with their situation. Postwar, these veterans repurposed soldierly coping mechanisms and eventually used institutional support from their states. Camaraderie, honor, literary endeavors, and Christianity remained prevalent postwar, such as through the various emerging veterans’ organizations. However, institutional support took considerable time to appear, such as disability, pension, and soldiers’ home benefits. This required the veterans to fall back onto earlier learned mechanisms, illustrating that the status of veteran began during the conflict.

Since the introduction of automobiles to Florida in the 1900s, highways have been integral to the state's economy. In the 1950s, statewide limited-access highway projects were introduced in the form of a state-operated turnpike and the national Interstate highway system. This paper traces the simultaneous development of both expressway systems, outlining the previous condition of Florida's highways, the initiatives taken by Florida's governors, and especially the role of William C. Cramer of St. Petersburg, Florida's first Republican United States Congressman since Reconstruction. In the House of Representatives, as a ranking member of the Roads Subcommittee of the Public Works Committee, Cramer played a prominent role in shaping federal highway policies, addressing corruption in highway politics, keeping Interstates toll-free, and preventing highway funds from being diverted to other programs. He battled proponents of the Sunshine State Parkway, which ran parallel to designated Interstate routes and threatened to make them unfeasible. As the capstone to his public works career, Cramer secured additional mileage to provide for the 'missing link' between Tampa Bay and Miami, which had not been authorized in the original federal outlays. The designation extended a route through St. Petersburg.

<p>Detta examensarbete har innefattat en utformning av en hjälpmedelscentral i S:t Petersburg, Ryssland. Hjälpmedelscentralen i Vällingby har varit våra uppdragsgivare.</p><p>Syftet var att ge ett idéförslag där barn med funktionshinder ges en upplevelse och en möjlighet att testa olika hjälpmedel. Delarna som ingick i utformningen var: reception, utställning, väntrum, upplevelserum samt utprovningsrum. Vi har arbetat med att skapa miljöer som främjar utvecklingen och självförtroendet hos barn med funktionshinder. Det innebär en trygg- och sinnesstimulerande lokal.</p><p>För att skaffa de kunskaper som krävts i detta projekt har vi genomfört en utprovning, gjort studiebesök och pratat med ämnesexperter. Lämplig litteratur i områdena informationsdesign, barns utveckling, sinnestimulering och utställningar har använts.</p><p>Examensarbetet har resulterat i ett idéförslag samt en rapport. För att visualisera idéerna har illustrationer och en planritning tagits fram.</p><p>I rapporten som följer kan det utförligt läsas om de delar som lett fram till utformningen samt hur denna kom att se ut.</p>
