Upplevelse av konst i vårdmiljö : en litteraturöversikt / Experience of art in the healthcare environment : a literature review

Jonas, Claudia January 2023 (has links)
Background Hospital environments are often characterized as cold and impersonal, with limited space for interpersonal interactions. One of the core competencies of nursing is person-centered care, where art can be used as a facilitating tool in patient encounters. Within the context of the interaction between patients and healthcare providers, art plays a significant role, serving as support in communication, thereby promoting health-improving interactions. Against this backdrop, there is a need to explore patients' experiences of art in healthcare settings, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of art and its potential to improve the healthcare environment, patient encounters, and patients' well-being within the healthcare sector. Aim The aim was to highlight the patient's experience of art in the healthcare environment. Method A non-systematic literature review, based on 15 scientific original articles with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. To collect relevant articles, a search was conducted in the PubMed and CINAHL databases using various combinations of search terms. Subsequently, all included articles underwent a quality assessment following the evaluation criteria outlined by Sophiahemmet University for scientific classification and quality. The results were compiled and analyzed through an integrated data analysis process. Results In the results summary, four distinct categories emerged: Creates emotional well-being that provides support, Promotes conversations and interactions, Encourages reflection and provides distraction, and Fosters a sense of hope and control. These findings underscored the significant role of art in healthcare, not only as an aesthetic component, but also as a valuable resource that enhances the well-being of patients. It contributes to increased opportunities for communication, encourages reflection, provides distraction, and fosters a sense of hope and control. Conclusions This literature review demonstrates that the integration of art in the healthcare environment is a valuable initiative with the potential to enhance patients' overall healthcare experience and their overall health and well-being. This underscores the importance of continuing to research and promote the use of art in healthcare to create a more supportive and rewarding healthcare environment.

Photography and Agency in Personal Narrative

Wolf Garcindo, Juliana January 2024 (has links)
In this paper, I propose to investigate the correlation between photography and narrative, emphasizing how photographs can be a well-suited means to shape the memories that form part of our narratives. I argue that by actively incorporating photographs into the memories we preserve, we are empowered to play a more active role in how we remember our lives. Consequently, this agency may allow us to transform our narratives into something more distinct and tangible compared to what they would have been without their inclusion.

A Thousand Words: Responses to Photographs

Gonzalez, Stephanie 01 January 2007 (has links)
It has been said many times that a picture is worth a thousand words. This familiar proverb describes the idea that complex stories can be told with just a single image and can give you as much or more information than a written or spoken text. One picture. One thousand words. It is in this limited space I have written. This thesis is a collection of prose written in response to photographs/images that have been taken, created, or found, and has been influenced by the combination of the visual and textual mediums of my disciplines (digital media and creative writing): striking images with textual commentary. While observing these photographs, readers bring with them emotional baggage, preconceived notions, memories and feelings. The written commentary (e.g., stories) attached to the photographs adds a new dimension to what the reader sees. The natural ambiguity of a photograph lends itself to conflicting interpretations, all of which enhance the work and bring us closer to a new and deeper meaning via textual-reader interaction.

Ferreira, Sarah Lorenzon 03 November 2014 (has links)
Photographs of works of art, which constitute the empirical object of this research, make possible the existence of a collection of visual information and its consequent institutionalization. Based on this empirical object, we have tried to identify the challenges related to the creation and maintenance of collections of photographs of works of art in an electronic environment, considering the informational needs of specialized users. In order to deal with these challenges, we aimed at doing an exploratory study regarding the particularities of the creation and maintenance of collections of photographs of works of art in an electronic environment. Starting with the review of the existing literature, it was possible to identify beforehand that the problem is not technological indeed, i.e., it is not about the use of the best software, but it lies instead in the process of creation and maintenance of collections of photographs of works of art. In order to understand this process, it was necessary to study the characteristics of the collection of photographs of works of art of the information service of an institution which offers courses in the field of Visual Arts, as well as the informational behaviour of the potential users of this collection. For this case study, the following data collection techniques were used: unstructured direct observation, unstructured interview and a questionnaire. It was possible to observe: the photographs of works of art are used for educational ends, and online databases constitute an appropriate solution to the demand for photographs; users do weekly research for photographs; the kinds of photographs most sought after are those of paintings and drawings; informants use the photographs for research in artistic creation and in theoretical art. Still, for the creation and maintenance of the database, some challenges need to be overcome, such as the definition of criteria regarding the technical characteristics of the photographs and their content, as well as issues of copyright. Among these challenges, the one that stands out concerns the identification of the visual information needs of specialized users, and of how the photographs of works of art will be used in the educational activities. In the case of the institution where this study was conducted, the main request was the inclusion, in its collection, of photographs of works of art produced by the artists of the institution. The study confirmed that users do not want a collection that is nothing but the mirroring of the collections of museums, galleries, or other information services. It was also possible to observe: how important it is to carry out studies about the use and the users of photographs of works of art, on a more regular basis; the adoption of a policy for the selection and development of collections of physical or digital photographs of works of art is indispensable; and, for the creation of an online database, the adoption of metadata standards and the considering of issues of interoperability are essential, but these measures depend on studies and reflections, such as those indicated in this work.

A History under Siege : Intensive Agriculture in the Mbulu Highlands, Tanzania, 19th Century to the Present

Börjeson, Lowe January 2004 (has links)
This doctoral thesis examines the history of the Iraqw’ar Da/aw area in the Mbulu Highlands of northern Tanzania. Since the late nineteenth century this area has been known for its intensive cultivation, and referred to as an “island” within a matrix of less intensive land use. The conventional explanation for its characteristics has been high population densities resulting from the prevention of expansion by hostility from surrounding pastoral groups, leading to a siegelike situation. Drawing on an intensive programme of interviews, detailed field mapping and studies of aerial photographs, early travellers’ accounts and landscape photographs, this study challenges that explanation. The study concludes that the process of agricultural intensification has largely been its own driving force, based on self-reinforcing processes of change, and not a consequence of land scarcity.
