Human Machine Interface for Low Speed Semi-autonomous Maneuvering

Makhtoumi, Golnaz January 2013 (has links)
For the drivers of heavy trucks, performing some maneuvers with high precision could be a challenging task even for experienced ones. Volvo has a system which helps drivers in reversing the truck. Developing a human machine interface on a mobile platform with high usability for this system could help drivers to decrease both the stress level and spent time on maneuvering and will result in performing the task easier. This thesis introduces a new area in safety critical systems by combining automation with a mobile platform. An iterative and user centered design process utilized and three main iterations performed. In first iteration a low-fidelity prototype was created and evaluated by performing user tests. The output of usability test used to implement the software prototype for the second iteration. Evaluation of software prototype was done by desktop testing. In third iteration, second version of software prototype evaluated by performing field testing. Android and Google maps were used to implement three tasks: Destination, Rewind and Saved point. In all these iterations usability and safety were two main concerns and considered by looking into guidelines and performing evaluations. In the final test, the prototype was evaluated considering four usability factors: satisfaction, learnability, safety and achievement. After analyzing these factors prototype showed strong potential for a future product.

“Ett avsnitt till” - Cliffhangers inverkan på binge-watching : En narrativ analys av serier från olika tidsperioder

Bjørneset, David January 2022 (has links)

Investigating sustainable mitigation alternatives for groundwater in Matlab Upazila, Bangladesh. :  A Minor Field Study. / Undersökning av hållbara åtgärdsalternativ för grundvatten i Matlab Upazila, Bangladesh. : En fältstudie (Minor Field Study).

Gingborn, Nicklas, Wåhlén, Hanna January 2012 (has links)
Since the late 20th century most people in rural Bangladesh use hand pumped tube wells to extract groundwater as their primary source of water. In 1993 it was officially recognized that many of the Holocene groundwater aquifers contain elevated levels of arsenic (As) and that millions of people in Bangladesh are exposed and at risk for mass poisoning. The need to focus efforts to areas with scarce supply of safe drinking water has raised the need to quickly locate and identify these areas. Mitigation options evaluated in this study focus on 1) how to target As safe aquifers and 2) how to identify As safe tube wells An attempt to target As safe shallow aquifers based on sediment color was evaluated. The majority of 30 new tube wells screened in off-white sand sediments have As safe water with respect to both the WHO and the national guideline, but including the failed attempts to target off-white sediments at shallow depths, the success rate of the method was considered to be too low. This study also attempt to validate platform color as a rapid low-cost screening tool for As by relating platform color to water chemistry in 103 tube wells. Different classification methods were tested to develop recommendations for the future use of this method. The results showed that a simplified color classification was better than a detailed classification at predicting water chemistry of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and As. Recently, Mn has also emerged as a possible widespread problem in the Bengal Basin. Although not thoroughly investigated, present evidence indicates that a high concentration of Mn in drinking water affects the intellectual function in children. The occurrence of both low As and low Mn concentrations in shallow aquifers was found to be very unlikely since only one out of 133 tested wells had this water chemistry composition. Instead it was showed that the highest Mn concentrations occur in As-safe aquifers. Therefore WHO should consider reintroducing their previous health based guideline value for Mn to highlight the potential risk of excessive exposure, since more people risk being exposed to Mn when As-safe shallow aquifers are targeted.

IP Multimedia for Municipalities : The supporting architecture

Peterström, Dan January 2009 (has links)
Fiber deployment is becoming popular and is seen as a way to increase a community’s attractiveness to new inhabitants and companies. A new Open Access network is emerging, leading to a more horizontal network architecture. Combining this architecture with IMS enables developers to easily develop new and attractive services. To facilitate the development of new IMS services there needs to be an easy to use development environment and a reliable hardware/software platform upon which to deploy them. This thesis project will explore the design, development, and evaluation of new IMS applications targeted at municipal networks as well as the service platforms they are deployed on. The thesis will also examined what role IMS plays in Municipalities and why they may need a tailored IMS solution. During the thesis a reference network for Municipalities was put together and tested. Different service platforms were tested and evaluated.

A Network based Home surveillance/ monitoring system : Router based Deployment and Network Security

Song, Zixuan January 2011 (has links)
Home surveillance/monitoring systems are widely used nowadays. An intelligent surveillance system can provide multiple functions for uses. The assumption underlying this thesis project is that a home surveillance system can help people manage their homes better. The thesis presents two investigations into an intelligent home surveillance system implementation. First we will focus on the development of a router platform, which can manage the cameras connected to an intelligent home surveillance system. Such a system will include at least one router, one or more cameras. Some of these cameras will be connected by wireless links. Each camera will be dynamically allocated an IP address. The system will manage and control the various elements of the home surveillance/monitoring system via the network. Second, we will examine potential network security solutions, and choose a suitable solution. A key result of this thesis project is that SRTP and MIKEY are suitable for use in a home surveillance/monitoring system and together they provide authentication and privacy for the information from the camera (and potentially other information). This privacy is an important aspect of a home surveillance/monitoring system, since improper use of this information could be damaging to the homeowner’s privacy and personal integrity.

Effectiveness of Tubewell platform color as screening tool for arsenic and manganese in drinking water wells: An assessment from Matlab region Southeastern Bangladesh.

Annaduzzaman, Md January 2012 (has links)
Arsenic (As) contamination in groundwater is a severe and adverse water quality issue for drinking purposes, particularly in Southeast Asia, where groundwater is the main drinking water source. Bangladesh is one of the countries where arsenic poisoning in groundwater is massive and it is essential to find out a reliable alternative safe drinking water source. In this process, it is very much needed to identify As-rich wells to avoid drinking water from them and to assess the extent of contamination as well. This study attempts to evaluate the potentiality of tube-well (TW) platform color as low-cost quick screening tool for As and Mn as well in drinking water wells (n=272). The result shows strong association of red color platform with As-rich water in the corresponding wells compared to WHO guideline value of 10 μg/L (98.7% certainty) and regional (Bangladesh/India) standard of 50 μg/L (98.3% certainty). The sensitivity and efficiency of red color platforms to screen high As water in TW for 10 μg/L are 98% and 97%. Similarly, for 50 μg/L, it is 98% for both sensitivity and efficiency. However, because of a very low number (n=4) of TW platform stained with black color, it is not possible to make any conclusion on the potentiality of black color as a screening tool for Mn. This study suggests that red colored platform can be potentially used for primary identification of TWs with elevated As concentration and to prioritise sustainable As mitigation management. However, this study does not discard the concept of black colored platform as a screening tool for Mn-rich water. Further study is recommended to evaluate the efficiency of black color as a screening tool for Mn.

Visual Communication Console : Sharing Safety-Critical Information between Heavy Vehicles and Vulnerable Road Users

Gomli, Dastan, Lindström, Erik January 2019 (has links)
Background. Over the years, between 2013 and 2017, accidents between HeavyGoods Vehicles and Pedestrians have come to increase. Leading causes stem frominattentiveness and lack of communication between driver and pedestrians. Withthe advent of Autonomous vehicles, set to be able to reduce accidents, uncertainties in how communication and trust between humans and machines will be formed re-mains. Objectives. The research aim has been to understand the difficulties and problemssurrounding heavy vehicles, and the problems that today’s heavy vehicle operators faces, from which a technical solution that addressees the uncovered needs, is devel-oped. Methods. Design Research Methodology and MSPI Innovation Process has beenused in combination for acquiring and validating information around the problem.Shadowing sessions, unstructured interviews has been used for acquiring information.Literature reviews have been done to find academic validation in hypotheses statedthroughout the research. From the information gathered, iterative prototypes havebeen built. Results. From the needfinding that was conducted, safety around trucks was thefield on which the scope of the research was focused around. Due the larger size oftruck, decision-making through eye contact and intention determining is set to beharder when dealing with heavy vehicles, leading to an uncertainty around heavyvehicles residing with pedestrians in how to act around these. With the operatorsof these vehicles finding the unpredictable nature of pedestrians and cyclist in trafficto be troublesome and safety imposing, the research aim was set around addressing these needs. A communication console was developed, that is able to communi-cate safety-critical information between heavy vehicle operators and vulnerable road users, as means of reducing front collisions between said parts. Conclusions. The console has been developed through iterative prototyping andtesting, with design requirements being acquired through learnings and feedbackgathered from each iteration. The resulting communication console being presentedis able to share critical information being sought by pedestrians for decision-making,primarily that of eye contact and intentions of oncoming vehicles. The system servesas a proof of concept, that could through extensive traffic safety testing, help reducefront collisions between Heavy Goods Vehicles and Vulnerable Road Users, as well as, through further development, become the central communication console for au-tonomous vehicles to ensure partnership and intuitive communication between these and the surroundings.

GhostBuy: An All-Steps Anonymous Purchase Platform (ASAPP) based on Separation of Data

Willems, Fabian 19 May 2021 (has links)
In recent years – and especially since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic – online shopping has become a part of everyday life for many people. Yet, in contrast to buying at a traditional retail store, staying anonymous is at least difficult if not impossible when shopping online – in particular, when physical goods are to be delivered. From the customer perspective, reasons for seeking anonymity when shopping online can be manifold, for example some do not want anyone to know about their purchases, others do not want their data to be used by Big Data-enabled online retailers. From the point of view of online retailers, the prospect of anonymous online shopping should therefore not only be seen as a threat to their data-driven business models, but also as an opportunity to attract new customers. In this thesis we search and find support in the literature regarding the question whether there is indeed a demand for anonymous online shopping, and we discuss system architecture designs that were proposed by other authors for potentially realizing what we call All-Steps Anonymous Purchase Platforms (ASAPP). We propose a new architecture design that improves earlier work by realizing the concept of Separation of Data within a single platform: GhostBuy. We implement a working prototype of this platform that demonstrates not only the fundamental feasibility of the architecture but also that such a platform can be realized with a look-and-feel similar to that of common online shops. We also propose solutions for certain related aspects that are particularly important in the context of such a platform, as for example a guaranteed use of secure user passwords or application-level database encryption. We evaluate to what extent the proposed architecture and prototype preserve the customers’ anonymity/privacy, showing that the prototype provides it to the maximum possible extent that can be achieved based on the proposed architecture. We also show that the system provides 256-bit security against all but one considered cryptographic and mis-authentication attack vectors and discuss how this can also be achieved for the remaining attack vector. Closing our evaluation, we show how well the platform could presumably be deployed in the real world. Finally, limitations, possible improvements, and potential further future work are discussed and proposed.

Är Sverigedemokraterna ett mittenparti? : Idealtypsanalys av Sverigedemokraternas principprogram / Is the Sweden Democrats a Centrist Party? : An Ideal Type Analysis of the Sweden Democrats´ Political Platform

Jonsson, Benjamin January 2021 (has links)
This essay studies if the Sweden Democrats is a centrist party or not. The party’s ideological affiliation has been debated for a long time in Sweden. The party has been described as fascists and racists by opponents from both right- and left-wing. Most of the research on the Swedish Democrats has focused on the party’s connections to right-wing populism and nationalism. But the research has paid little attention to study the Sweden Democrats as a centrist party, despite the party defining itself as it. This makes it interesting to further investigate what ideological association the party has since they define themselves as centrist combined with elements from both right-and left-wing ideologies. It’s a study on the party’s updated party-platform, the study focuses on how the party describes the state, the economy and their view of humanity. The purpose of this study is to examine if the party is a centrist party based on the ideologies of liberalism, conservatism and social democracy through the use of the ideal-type analysis. The ideologies work as theories in this study. These ideologies were formed into ideal-types and were then applied to the chosen policy areas to be examined, to study whether the party had any connection to these as they claimed.

Chess and Twitch : Cultural Convergence Through Digital Platforms

Johansson, Erik January 2021 (has links)
This thesis studies online fan communities, using the recent popularity of chess on live streamingplatform Twitch.tv as a case study to examine audience and cultural convergence between high and popular culture in a digital community setting. Bourdieu’s theoretical concepts field and capital are utilised in order to investigate changing structures and norms within this converging chess field. Affordances of the Twitch platform, too, are considered as key role players in the transformation ofchess culture online. Through participant observation in a live stream channel and through content analysis of online forum materials discussing the Twitch-hosted amateur chess "PogChamps"tournament, the study’s findings suggest that the introduction of a new platform like Twitch into a fieldlike the chess field can fundamentally restructure the community. This can occur because of platform affordances that offer new means for community members to accumulate valuable capital by setting new terms for what constitutes valuable capital and what it means to be "in the know" in the field. Additionally, by bringing new audiences to the chess community, Twitch is a key influencer indeveloping what can be seen as a new form of fan community centred around chess that emphasises spectacle and entertainment above game proficiency. These findings, the thesis concludes, can beapplied in similar community contexts in order to further understand the dynamic nature of online communities.
