Vliv sociálních změn ve vybrané lokalitě města Zlín na cenu nemovitosti / The Impact of Local Social Composition of the Neighbourhood on the Real Estates Value in a Selected Locality of the City of Zlín

Francová, Klára January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this proposal is socialogical analysis, interpretation, construction and urbanistic recommendation related to an impact of social changes in specific neighborhood on life standarts and real estates‘ costs in the area. Social changes could be negative, such as social degradation of certain area, worsening of quality of the environment, worsening relationships and also social deviation (for example criminality). Positive changes represents mostly gentrification, which includes positive changes of social and tangible environment. These are followed by price encrease of life standarts which is displacing old settlers. In our experience these areas of life standarts and real estates prices are linked and it is possible to use synergistic influence of changes to adjust tangible and social environment.

"Dangerous Subjects": James D. Saules and the Enforcement of the Color Line in Oregon

Coleman, Kenneth Robert 16 May 2014 (has links)
In June of 1844, James D. Saules, a black sailor turned farmer living in Oregon's Willamette Valley, was arrested and convicted for allegedly inciting Indians to violence against a settler named Charles E. Pickett. Three years earlier, Saules had deserted the United States Exploring Expedition, married a Chinookan woman, and started a freight business on the Columbia River. Less than two months following Saules' arrest, Oregon's Provisional Government passed its infamous "Lash Law," banning the immigration of free black people to the region. While the government repealed the law in 1845, Oregon passed a territorial black exclusion law in 1849 and included a black exclusion clause in its 1857 state constitution. Oregon's territorial delegate also convinced the U.S. Congress to exclude black people from the 1850 Donation Land Act. In each case, Oregon politicians suggested the legacy of the Saules case by stressing the need to prevent black men, particularly sailors, from coming to Oregon and collaborating with local indigenous groups to commit acts of violence against white settlers. This thesis explains the unusual persistence of black exclusion laws in Oregon by focusing on the life of Saules, both before and after white American settlers came to the region in large numbers. Black exclusion in Oregon was neither an anomalous byproduct of American expansion nor a means to prevent slavery from taking root in the region. Instead, racial exclusion was central to the land-centered settler colonial project in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to the Americanization of the Pacific Northwest, the region was home to a cosmopolitan and increasingly fluid culture that incorporated various local Native groups, exogenous fur industry workers, and missionaries. This was a milieu made possible by colonialism and the rise of merchant capitalism during the Age of Sail, a period which lasted from the sixteenth to the mid-nineteenth century. This was also likely a world very familiar to Saules, who had spent his entire adult life aboard ships and in various seaports. However, the American immigrants who began arriving in Oregon in the early 1840s sought to dismantle this multiethnic social order, privatize land, and create a homogenous settler society based on classical republican principles. And although Saules was born in the United States, American settlers, emboldened by a racialist ideology, denied most non-whites a place in their settler society. Furthermore, during the early decades of resettlement, white American settlers often felt vulnerable to attacks from the preexisting population. Therefore, many settlers viewed free black men like Saules, a worldly sailor with connections among Native people, as potential threats to the security of their nascent communities.

The influences of home possessions and out-of-school-time lessons on reading literacy: the cases of Taiwan, South Korea, Canada, and Finland

Hsu, Wei-Shan Unknown Date (has links)
The main purpose of this research was to investigate the influences of home possessions and out-of-school-time lessons on reading literacy in Taiwan, South Korea, Canada, and Finland. The research methods included literature review and data analysis from PISA 2009 database. First, the literature review was the basis of argument and for the development of the model. Secondly, the statistical analysis was conducted by using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, correlation, and structural eduation modeling. Finally, the comprehensive discussion was based on the research findings, and to draw the conclusions which were summarized as follows: A.The path leading from home possessions to reading literacy was positive in Taiwan, South Korea, Canada, and Finland. That is, home possessions have significant influences on reading literacy in this four countries. B.The path leading from out-of-school-time lessons to reading literacy was positive in South Korea. That is, out-of-school-time lessons have significant and positive influences on reading literacy in South Korea. However, the path leading from out-of-school-time lessons to reading literacy was negative in Taiwan, Canada, and Finland. In other words, out-of-school-time lessons have significant and negative influences on reading literacy in Taiwan, Canada, and Finland. In the end, based on the research results, the researcher proposed some suggestions for educational administrative agencies, school personnel, and future research, attempting to benefit the development of secondary school education in the future.

Rights and obligations : conceptions of social relations viewed through the treatment of possessions in the Biblical poems of Oxford, Bodleian Library MS Junius XI

Jarc, Jaka January 2015 (has links)
My thesis examines social conceptions framing rights and obligations by reviewing how possessions are used and exchanged in the poems of MS Junius XI. I identify several major additions to the scriptural source material of the poetic narrative where the poems present a unique treatment of possessions in a social environment. These poetic additions often feature novel combinations of events and even entirely new sub-stories. In reviewing these departures I focus specifically on possessions and examine how they frame the rights and obligations within social interactions. Focusing on objects of social exchange enables the discussion of the literary narrative to relate to secondary historical literature on possessions as well as social conceptions. This has not yet been done for the poems of Junius XI. This thesis is divided into four thematic chapters ordered from the most tangible to the most abstract: moveable objects, landed possessions, degrees of possession of people, and abstract notions of authority framing social interactions tied to holding and exchanging possessions. In chapter two moveable possessions will be discussed in relation to social status, cultural identity, exchange and hierarchy. The third chapter will examine the interplay between the allegorical and practical notions of land possession. The fourth chapter will discuss social hierarchy framed as a range of rights and obligations discussing to what degree people are themselves treated as possessions. The discussion will examine what types and levels of relative personal freedom is detectable in the Junius XI poems. The final chapter will amalgamate findings and issues of the previous chapters by examining how the exchange and treatment of possessions impact various types of authority which frame social interactions, hierarchies and values.

Santos, Vera Maria dos 20 October 2011 (has links)
Under the atmosphere of civilization and knowledge, wealthy women from Sergipe Del Rey Captaincy didn´t live recluse. After their husbands deaths, they took charge of the responsibilities and got involved with tasks related to the men´s world and, therefore, surrounded by a hale of a patriarchal power, acted out activities that were beyond their houses. Therefore, they administrated mills, stills, sites, plantations, commanded slaves and traded goods. Some of those women had someone else signing for them, others wrote down their own names on their husbands inventories and some others were the tutors of their own children, considered orphans, who were under twenty five years old. Under the 18th Law, the female tutors raised and educated their children, underage orphans, with love and care. This way, the woman guaranteed a family heritage and the Portuguese Crown, together with Justice, put all sergipanos under the new modern nation project. Consequently, all (family and the power of the Portuguese Crown) were on the same wavelength to keep up with this new established order. In Sergipe Del Rey there were four elementary school models, that went on in the 18th century, from 1575 to 1799, period in which the documents that based this research were analyzed. The first model was called indoctrination or instruction through spoken language , taught by the Franciscan and Carmelites to the Indian and sergipanos settlers´ children. The second one that was found was the women´s enclosure , in 1743, that was one of the education options given to the women of possessions at that time. These two models were used in the period when the Jesuits were in charge of the education and ruled it. The third model, called primary school classes or primary school teaching worked from the time the Jesuits were expelled in 1759 to 1792. The fourth model highlighted was the teaching to its own gender , indicated to the underage orphan girls, registered from 1752 to 1792. These two last models are related to Pombal s administration and go on until the Marian one. I point out that it was during Pombal s administration that meaningful changes happened in the educational process in the Portuguese kingdom, from 1759 on. Pombal did not break up with the Church established order. He substituted the Jesuits educational action for a new rational dynamic that still respects the Church hierarchy, but subordinates it to the State. Those educational practices went on until the adult life and could be related to school or not and had as their objective to reach especially the ones who were wealthy.

The Spirit and the 'other' : social identity, ethnicity and intergroup reconciliation in Luke-Acts

Kuecker, Aaron J. January 2008 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the relationship between the Holy Spirit, ethnic identity and the ‘other’ in Luke-Acts. I argue that the Spirit is the central figure in the formation of a new social identity that affirms, yet chastens and transcends ethnic identity. The investigation is informed methodologically by social identity theory (discussed in chapter 2), a branch of social psychology that examines the effects of group membership upon human identity and intergroup relations. Chapters 3 and 4 investigate the relationship between privileged social identity, the influence of the Spirit and the allocation of group resources to the ‘other’ in Luke 1-4. I conclude that there is an identifiable relationship between the presence of the Spirit and the extension of in-group benefits to the ‘other’. Chapters 5 through 8 enquire into the role of the Spirit in Acts 1-15. In chapters 5 and 6 I identify the Pentecost narrative as the initial clue to the place of ethnic identity within the Jesus movement and the role of the early community in the formation of an allocentrically oriented social identity. In chapters 7 and 8 attention is directed to the role of the Spirit in both the orchestration of intergroup contact and the identification of those rightly related to God. Luke’s use of ‘ethnic language’ alerts us to the precision with which he approaches this topic. I conclude that Luke is convinced of an inseparable relationship between the Spirit and human identity that robustly affirms ethnicity nested within one’s identity as a member of the Jesus group. The existence of this Spirit-formed identity allows for profound expressions of interethnic reconciliation in Luke-Acts. This conclusion grants a broader role to the Spirit in Luke-Acts than the current scholarly consensus which suggests that Luke views the Spirit as the Old Testament/Second Temple ‘Spirit of prophecy’.

Mrgudovic, Nathalie 15 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)

"What does that mean?" Objects of significance in residential programmes for young persons in South Africa

Molepo, Phineas Lesiba 30 June 2008 (has links)
Many young persons live under difficult circumstances. Factors including HIV/AIDS pandemic, exacerbate the need to place young persons into alternative placements. The new and the unknown can be frightening but carrying a faithful transitional object establishes therapeutic bridge between the old and known and the new and unknown. This study sought to explore South African child and youth care workers' awareness of young persons' objects of significance in residential care settings. The rational was that with greater awareness, important objects may become a more useful option for the promotion of young persons' well-being. The research confirmed that South African child and youth care workers are aware of the existence and importance of significant objects. It further revealed that young persons possess different objects of significance to which workers need to pay careful attention. / Research Institute for Theology and Religion / M.Tech.
