Africanité et mondialisation à travers la production romanesque de la nouvelle génération d'écrivains francophones d'Afrique noire / Africanity and globalisation through fiction production by the new generation of francophone black African writersManirambona, Fulgence 09 May 2011 (has links)
The African novel by the new generation is made at the meeting point of languages and cultures. In its theoretical and paratextual orientation, the fiction discourse by the new generation can be summed up as a « universality-oriented modernity », a place of dialectic link between africanity and globalization. The ideological context of creation of this literature and the identity questioning bring us to consider africanity as a dynamic notion and the literary globalization as a way to competition and literary legitimacy.<p>The peritextual discourse, which is a high place of readability/visibility, initiates the strategies of this otherness which the novelist develops largely in textual enunciation. <p>Reshaping the enunciation shows the motivation of a new writing characterized by a breaking up narration, a multiple area coverage and a thematic innovation. Narrative transgression is integrated in the rank of discourses of deconstruction characterizing postmodernity. It is to be read as a reflection of the being in the space between, this is the migrant writer as well as his protagonist. The space in which the latter evolves can be interpreted as a transterritoriarity in which is moulded literary creation sealed by otherness and shows « transidentity » of the character evolving in that space. The thematic perspective reinforces this idea of global otherness structuring the African contemporary narration. It moves into mutations and transgressions characterizing the relationship between africanity and globalization as a place of writing/reading of contemporary novel. <p>The writing mode gives us a linguistic and stylistic framework in which takes place the otherness africanity-globalization. The new generation novelist works on the French language he uses by means of ingredients of languages and cultures surrounding him. This linguistic and stylistic manipulation is made possible by an interlinguistic game and the humoristic and ironic register which produce aesthetics of the “funny” in front of otherness challenges. The contemporary African writer, encouraged by these linguistic and stylistic manipulations, exploits the oral ressources in order to reconcile the plurality of forms of expression and of language practices of his environment. This writing strategy produces aesthetics of orality, the one which, in addition to exalting the virtues of writing, has recourse to different procedures of orality, showing thus africanity of contemporary text, to mark an opposition against writing and the Western world which embodies it.

Paul Auster's representation of invisible characters in selected novelsGous, Joané Facqueline January 2012 (has links)
In this dissertation I argue that invisible characters, as they appear in Paul Auster’s novels, serve a very specific function within the interpretative framework of a text and that they should be considered to play a functional role, in order to arrive at a more holistic interpretation of the text and a more accurate analysis of said texts. I argue that Auster knowingly includes these characters in his novels as part of his narrative technique, in order for them to serve specific functions and to contribute to the structure of postmodern fiction. I make use of a contextualized close reading of five of Auster’s novels and attempt a hermeneutic interpretation of these novels to arrive at a hermeneutic circle when combining these novels into an integrated whole, individual, work of fiction. Certain parallels can be drawn between Auster’s various novels and these parallels contribute to the various motifs and themes found throughout his work. The importance of space in Auster’s novels is also highlighted with emphasis on liminality which serves as an instigator for transgression to occur between different fictive worlds. / Thesis (MA (English))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.

'n Hermeneuties-empiriese strategie rakende die verskynsel van kerkkrimping in tradisioneel Afrikaanse susterkerke in Suid-Afrika : 'n prakties-teologiese studie / Sophia van HeldenVan Helden, Sophia January 2010 (has links)
The phenomenon of the decline in numbers in traditionally Afrikaans “sister
churches” - in the midst of the complex South African society of the first decade of
the 21st century - was researched in the light of the command that Jesus himself gave
to his church (Math 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8). The Great Commission directed the aim
of the research to evaluate this phenomenon hermeneutically and empirically in order
to develop a reformed strategy in a practical theological way. The grounding of the
investigation was the communicative action theory, which simultaneously integrates
with a basic theoretical model developed from a combination of basic theoretical
models as suggested by Dingemans, Heitink en Zerfass. To reinforce the
exegetical/hermeneutical perspective of the basic theory, a historical study was
conducted regarding the growth and decline of power basises since the Jesus
movement until now. The interaction between perspectives was subsequently
extended by metatheoretical perspectives, based on the research regarding the
influence of schools of thought, as well as the influence of circumstances in the
country, which determine the “sister church” praxis of the 21st century. The
traditionally Afrikaans “sister churches” as a problematic ecclesiastical community of
practice was further examined as part of the empirical perspective. On this basis an
attempt was made to gauge the thinking of the “sister churches” in the intricate and
problematic ecclesiastical praxis. The gauging was executed by means of a random
test in one of the “sister churches”, namely the Reformed Church of South Africa
(GKSA). It was found that this problematic church praxis is directed by strong
institutional thinking. An adjusted practice theory, as well as a supporting practical
theoretical model, were formulated in order to realise a reformed strategy for church
growth as opposed to the decline in numbers. Considering the above mentioned
interactive perspectives, the conclusion was reached that the praxis in the “sister
churches” at the beginning of the 21st century, functions in an ecclesiastically
imbalanced way. The imbalance lies in the fact that Christ-centred thinking, and thus
also Christ-centred ecclesiology (as balancing thinking and balancing ecclesiology),
does not manifest in “sister church” thinking. The unbalanced thinking as an all-encompassing factor in the church praxis, confirms and promotes the tendency of the
decline in numbers. The proposed strategic perspective as the adjusted practice theory
is thus a contribution to formulating an obedient, covenant-centred and reformed
answer to declining numbers. This adjusted strategy can bring about the wonder of
revival and growth in the “sister churches” by means of the basic theoretical truth
elements, which were pointed out in this research. / Thesis (Ph.D. (Pastoral))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2011.

Pieterse / Ihette JacobsJacobs, Ihette January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation attempts to investigate the intertextual modus operandi in the oeuvre of H.J. Pieterse, with specific focus on his volumes, Alruin (1989) and Die burg van hertog Bloubaard (2000). The overarching purpose of the investigation is to prove that the author not only uses intertextuality in the sense that one text (literary text) refers to another text (literary and non–literary), or that one text influences another. Pieterse engages in conversation with other texts and re–writes these texts by repositioning them in another context and by adding additional metaphoric meaning to them. The author allows these texts to exchange conversation, to mutually influence one another, and this has as a result that, in his poems, his poetry and his oeuvre, metaphoric lines come into being, which lend a layered meaning to these texts and enrich the possibilities of their interpretation. Thus, a play on multiple meaning develops, which moves between texts: written texts, literary texts, non–literary texts, the author, the reader and the context(s). The conclusion to which this dissertation comes, is that the above mentioned manifestations of meanings, which exist and come into existence within the physically confines of the text, expand this text to a less confined existence in terms of meaning, more unlimited and unbound than what is necessarily allowed by the physically confined nature of the written text. The question thus arises of how the physically limited text take possession of and draws into the texts what lies beyond its physical confines to produce meaning, and how this tension around the limits of the literary text is functionally used. Consequentially, the question that follows is how this happens in the oeuvre of H.J. Pieterse and how the author uses his poetic technique to go beyond the confines of the written text. / Thesis (M.A. (Afrikaans and Dutch))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2011.
