Natural remnants in urban environments : a Marott Park design intervention

O'Brien, Michael Thomas January 2002 (has links)
The processes by which urban areas come to be and evolve create outdoor spaces that experience different uses and have different characteristics over a period of time. For example, a space previously used for industrial purposes may presently be used as a community park. In some cases, a significant area of land may become a kind of leftover or remnant space whose uses are unclear, undefined, or unprogrammed, but exhibits natural characteristics. The purpose of this study is to utilize one of these natural remnants, Marott Park, in the cultural arts district of Broad Ripple in Indianapolis, Indiana as the basis for a design effort that provides access to the site while retaining both its site-specific and contextual characteristics. The intent of this effort is to enhance the community/pedestrian recreational, educational, and cultural experience through a detailed design for a portion of Marott Park. A set of recommendations also addresses the potential for connections between the site and other features such as existing open space, schools, and cultural features in the Indianapolis area. / Department of Landscape Architecture

Architectures pour des circuits fiables de hautes performances / Architectures for reliable and high performance circuits

Bonnoit, Thierry 18 October 2012 (has links)
Nanometric technologies led to a decrease of electronic circuit reliability, especially against external phenomena. Those may change the state of storage components, or interfere with logical components. In fact, this issue is more critical for memories, as they are more sensitive to external radiations. The error correcting codes are one of the most used solutions. However, reliability constraints require codes that are more and more complex. These codes have a negative effect on the system bandwidth. We propose a generic methodology that removes the timing penalty of error correcting codes during memory's write operation. Moreover, it limits the speed penalty for read operation only in the rare case an error is detected. To proceed, the circuit is decontaminated after uncorrected data were propagated inside the circuit. This technique may require restoring some past states of few storage components by adding some FIFO. An algorithm that identifies these components was also created. Then we try to evaluate the impact of such a technique for the following issue: the global state restoration of a circuit to erase all kinds of soft errors, everywhere inside the circuit.

Regionální rozvoj a plošná ochrana souborů lidové architektury v obcích okresu Tábor. / Regional development and the territorial protection of rural architecture complexes in villages in Tábor district.

HORNÍKOVÁ, Lenka January 2008 (has links)
In 1995 it was declared 61 rural monumental preserves and 164 rural monumental zones of popular architecture by Ministry of Culture. The aim of this diploma work was to find out in what extent the monumental protection of rural monument preserves and zones affect the country development. The point of this work is to verify the results of monument preservation, study the citizen, authority of autonomy and public administration position, and describe the effects on the choosen places. The research was carried out in rural monumental preserves and zones in the region of Tábor, specifically on six rural monumental preserves (Klečaty, Komárov, Mažice, Vlastiboř, Zálší, Záluží) and three rural monumental zones (Bechyňská Smoleč, Nedvědice, Svinky).

Regionální rozvoj a plošná ochrana souborů lidové architektury v obcích okresu České Budějovice II. část / Regional development and the territorial protection of rural architecture complexis in villages in České Budějovice district II. part.

PEŠKOVÁ, Lenka January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this diploma work was to find out in what extent the monumental protection of rural monument preserves and zones affect the country development. Whether this monumental protection brings benefits for the municipality or not and how the citizens of selected villages perceive this monumental protection. Other aim of the research was to find out the rate of co-operation between the authorized municipal authority, monumental authority and the Regional authority in České Budějovice. The research was carried out in rural monumental preserves and zones in the region of České Budějovice {--} II part, specifically on rural monumental preserve (Holašovice) and eight rural monumental zones (Bavorovice, Božejov, Břehov, Dobčice, Kojákovice, Lipanovice, Opatovice, Rožnov).

Pre and post field trip activities for the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve: An oasis in the desert

Richert, Kira Elizabeth 01 January 2002 (has links)
This teaching unit consists of pre and post field trip activities for the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve in Morongo Valley, California. The lessons provide background information to teachers and provide classroom activities on the desert and wetland environments. The lessons can be easily adapted for kindergarten through sixth grades.

Toxicity in the game World of Tanks: A participant observation ethnography, thematic analysis, content analysis and autoethnography

Dzigurski, Sasa January 2022 (has links)
Previous research has studied toxicity in World of Tanks game with a focus on precursors of toxicity, player performance in the game from the perspective of gender-performance gap or observing the players' major behaviors instigated by various situations within the game. This research focuses on player's behavior in the game chat with an emphasis on toxic behavior by using participant observation ethnography, thematic analysis, content analysis and autoethnography. Contrary to the predicted belief that game mechanics could instigate toxic behavior in the game, results showed that the major forms of toxicity were regarded as gamesplaining, ableism, sarcasm, male preserve concept and fragile masculinity concept.

Between the Garden and the Gardener

Lindsay, Sara Lynne 20 May 2022 (has links)
My work uses plant material and soil as a record of personal, cultural, and ecological history. History is not only held in the buildings and monuments, but in the soil itself. I gather this soil and foliage from both cultivated and uncultivated locations for my artwork. Using traditional domestic techniques of drying and canning, I preserve the materials that I have gathered. These will then be sewn together, cooked, and encrusted into objects. Despite my labor of preserving, these organic art supplies are transient. When made into works of art, they can be viewed in their vulnerable state, fighting against time, as they decay. .
