William James's conception of psychology (1842-1910) has not yet been adequately addressed both in the context of the historiography of psychology in general and in the author's authoritative literature. Our objective in this paper is to clarify this subject, particularly about an apparent inconsistency between two attitudes of the author, the first of them positivist, based on cerebralism and which considered classical psychological themes; And the second more inclusive, which advocated the addition of new phenomena in the domain of psychology and accepting metaphysical implications of exceptional phenomena. We argue that these two attitudes are part of the development of James' psychology and reflect their efforts both to consolidate this new science and to expand its scope.

Vývoj uplatňování zásad daňového řízení v ČR / The development of application of the principles of tax process in the CRKlvaňa, Libor January 2009 (has links)
This diploma work has, as its main objective, the investigation of the influence of the court judicature on the interpretation and application of the tax procedural rules, particularly their principles of the tax process and tax administration in the CR. The object of the investigation was to ascertain if the Act No. 337/1992 of Collection of Law, respecting the administration of taxes and charges, was a satisfactory and suitable procedural norm in the tax process, and if the principles of the tax process and existing judicature provided the tax subject and the tax administrator with an adequate legal certainty in these problems. First, I examined constitutional principles in the CR and the general principles of the administrative law in relation to the tax theory and tax administration. Then I moved on from principles of the tax theory to a detailed analysis of the court judicature in the interpretation and application of the principles of the tax process. I carried out a comparison of the existing, and the new, principles of the tax process and tax administration, which are govern commencing January 1, 2011, when the new Tax Rules came into force. In the diploma work, in the area of the principles of the administrative law, I dealt with the investigative question: To what extent it might be possible to use the existing Administrative Rules, in a subsidiary manner, in the tax process and tax administration, mainly focusing on all the principles stated in it, which are not included in the new Tax Rules.

Konsten att hantera samhällsnyttiga- och affärsmässiga principer : En studie om hur det kommunala bostadsaktiebolaget hanterar konkurrerande krav.Blomster, Emma, Karlsson, Elvira January 2021 (has links)
The municipal housing company is a form of hybrid organization whose operations meet demands and expectations. These requirements can be perceived as competitive as the company is expected to act commercially but also fulfill a socially beneficial purpose. A municipal housing company operates in institutional environments where it influences and is influenced by its surroundings. Previous research has identified the concept of hybrid organization and the emergence of institutional logic. With this study, we have investigated how competing requirements from business and socially beneficial principles are handled internally within a municipal housing company. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain how competing requirements from socially beneficial and business principles are handled in municipal housing companies. Our study is conducted based on the theory of institutional logic. We have studied which strategies the municipal housing company uses in its operational management when they meet competing requirements. To fulfill our purpose and answer the question, we interviewed six employees with different positions within Halmstad Fastighet AB. The empirical material has been compared with our theoretical framework and then we have a discussion about how the company handles the competing requirements. The results of our study show that the organization defies institutional logic and acts more rationally than expected when dealing with the requirements of business and socially beneficial principles in its operations. Our conclusion is that we can see elements of all three strategies in the business: the decoupling, compromise and combination strategy. We note that a balance between business and socially beneficial principles is not possible as there is a dominant requirement. In order for a municipal housing company to succeed in handling competing requirements, the company needs to change shape. We also see a purpose in maintaining the ambiguity surrounding the prioritization of business and socially beneficial principles.

An investigation into how educators incorporate democratic principles and values into their classroom practices : a case study of Mogoshi Circuit, Limpopo Province, South AfricaMugari, Xitshembiso Petunia January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (M.Ed.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / This study investigated how educators apply democratic principles and values in their
practice after two decades of democracy in South Africa. It dwells on how democratic
principles and values are infused into teaching, learning and assessment in the
classroom. The study followed an interpretive paradigm using the qualitative approach
through a descriptive case study design. Data collection methods used included semi structured interviews, focus group interviews, classroom observations and document
analysis. Purposive sampling was used with focus on Grade 10-12 educators and
learners from two secondary schools in Mogoshi Circuit of Limpopo Province of South
Africa. The theoretical frameworks of the study drew from the Child-Friendly Schools
and Social Reconstructionism approach. Emphasis is on the upholding of children‟s
rights, and the, re-dress of educational imbalances. The frameworks also recommend
the promotion and integration of democratic principles and values in schools. The study
concludes that educators do incorporate democratic principles and values in their
teaching, learning and assessment with the promotion of attributes such as participation
(dialogue), respect, equity and inclusion which impact greatly on learners‟ daily lives.
However, it is not without fault that certain activities which are not child-friendly are still
practised by some educators in some schools as they do not promote democratic
principles and values, while some educators do. It was found that democratic principles
and values are embedded in schools. However, not all educators are doing this. The
study recommends further investigation on the implementation of democratic principles
and values for reflection and improvement. / EDTP SETA

Principles and Insights for Design for the Developing WorldWood, Amy Eleanor 01 April 2017 (has links)
This dissertation collects principles and insights from various sources related to design for the developing world. These principles and insights form part of the foundation that can guide other engineers working in this area. The sources are the published literature, practitioners, non-governmental organizations, and our own field studies. From the engineering literature, we identified nine principles to guide engineers as they design poverty alleviating products for developing communities. Each principle is articulated, supporting literature is described, an in-depth example from the literature is given, followed by suggestions for how the principle can be applied to day-to-day engineering activities. Next, the work from engineering practitioners is studied. Information from various field reports was analyzed, a list of seven common pitfalls was derived, and the Design for the Developing World Canvas is introduced. This tool is similar to a Business Model Canvas, but it focuses on the product development process rather than the development of a business model. The Design for the Developing World Canvas can be used by design teams to facilitate discussions and make decisions that will allowthem to avoid the common pitfalls identified. A case study is then shared from a non-governmental organization called WHOlives.org about their experience with the Village Drill, a human-powered machine that digs boreholes for water wells. The case study outlines the development of the drill, a timeline of its implementation in 15 countries across three continents, specific values related to cashflows of the organization, and a conservative estimate of their impact in developing communities. A study of our original research conducting field studies using a technique called ethnography is then shared. This study was conducted in four countries on four continents and shows the impact of various conditions on the ability of the design team to collect information that is useful for making product development decisions. The conditions in this study include cultural familiarity, language fluency, gender and age of the respondent, information source type, use of prototypes, and others. The results can guide design teams as they make decisions about who to include on the design team, which projects to pursue, and how to conduct their own field studies. Lastly, conclusions related to design for the developing world are made based on the work presented and potential areas of future work are outlined.

Proposing a maturity assessment model based on the digital forensic readiness commonalities frameworkClaims, Ivan Prins January 2013 (has links)
Magister Commercii (Information Management) - MCom(IM) / The purpose of the study described in this thesis was to investigate the structure required to implement and manage digital forensic readiness within an enterprise. A comparative analysis of different digital forensic readiness frameworks was performed and, based on the findings of the analysis, the digital forensic readiness commonalities framework (DFRCF) was extended. The resultant structure was used to design a digital forensic readiness maturity assessment model (DFRMAM) that will enable organisations to assess their forensic readiness. In conclusion, both the extended DFRCF and the DFRMAM are shown to be validated by forensic practitioners, using semi-structured interviews. A qualitative research design and methodology was used to perform a comparative analysis of the various digital forensic readiness frameworks, to comprehend the underlying structures. All the participant responses were recorded and transcribed. Analysis of the findings resulting from the study showed that participants mostly agreed with the structure of the extended DFRCF; however, key changes were introduced to the extended DFRCF. The participants also validated the DFRMAM, and the majority of respondents opted for a checklist-type MAM. Digital forensic readiness is a very sensitive topic since organisations fear that their information might be made public and, as a result, increase their exposure to forensic incidents and reputational risk. Because of this, it was difficult to find participants who have a forensic footprint and are willing, able, and knowledgeable about digital forensic readiness. This study will contribute to the body of knowledge by presenting an original, validated DFRCF and DFRMAM. Practitioners and organisations now have access to non-proprietary DFRMAM.

Mechanical responses of borophene sheets: a first-principles studyMortazavi, Bohayra, Rahaman, Obaidur, Dianat, Arezoo, Rabczuk, Timon 13 January 2020 (has links)
Recent experimental advances for the fabrication of various borophene sheets introduced new structures with a wide range of applications. Borophene is the boron atom analogue of graphene. Borophene exhibits various structural polymorphs all of which are metallic. In this work, we employed first-principles density functional theory calculations to investigate the mechanical properties of five different single-layer borophene sheets. In particular, we analyzed the effect of the loading direction and point vacancy on the mechanical response of borophene. Moreover, we compared the thermal stabilities of the considered borophene systems. Based on the results of our modelling, borophene films depending on the atomic configurations and the loading direction can yield a remarkable elastic modulus in the range of 163–382 GPa nm and a high ultimate tensile strength from 13.5 GPa nm to around 22.8 GPa nm at the corresponding strain from 0.1 to 0.21. Our study reveals the remarkable mechanical characteristics of borophene films.
