The Path Is A Circle

Harris, MaryLea Martin 01 January 2006 (has links)
While the pastoral environment that surrounds my studio is inspirational in itself, my treescapes and organic abstractions are reflections of referential places experienced along my life's path. Considering the constant onslaught of information in our increasingly rushed society, I hope my work, influenced by the natural world, may allow the viewer to slow down briefly and live in the moment.

Would You Believe Me If I Said I Didn't Need You

Kozlowski, Andrew 01 January 2007 (has links)
This thesis is an attempt to expand upon the ideas that permeate the practice of art making that has developed over the past two years. Art criticism, theory, history, and practice are used to give definition to the boundaries of my ever-shifting body of work. Focusing on the elusive nature of communication in both public and private spheres, these projects range from installation and sculptural work, to web projects, photography, and drawing.

Epoch Locale.

Hounshell, Jonathan 18 December 2004 (has links)
My explorations around the world are intertwined with my excavation of the layers of art history. My discoveries about the traditions of the printmaking medium are fused with the heritage I inherit as an artist. This is what is put into my current body of work. With this supporting manuscript, I hope to inform about the technical aspects of my unique aesthetic and to entertain with the ideas behind my current body of work by making connections between my personal visions and experiences and the significance of the artists and craftsman who inspire me.

The poetics of making

Ho, King Tong Unknown Date (has links)
This is a practice-led research project that seeks to explore the cross-cultural aesthetics and conceptual ideas of an art project. I position myself as an art practitioner who intends to apply the Western modes of technological advancement of digital imaging and ink jet technologies to the substrates used by traditional Chinese artists for ink painting and calligraphy, usually called Xuan Zhi [宣紙]. Through this process, the aesthetics and conceptual ideas of both cultures will be explored, examined, analysed and interrogated for the potential development of a new aesthetics in the context of digital art. There are three major components in this research project; a creative document in the form of a collection of artwork, an exegesis and a collection of documentation. The creative document will be a body of visual image-based artwork that includes a series of collateral works from the ongoing research and practice of the project. It is the negotiated output of a potentially new aesthetics in digital art, specifically in the context of digital still imaging and digital printmaking. The exegesis is an analytical and critical commentary that places the creative document in relevant theoretical, philosophical, cultural and historical contexts. The documentation is a collection of the ongoing empirical practice of ink jet technology on Xuan Zhi. The visual physical form of both the exegesis and the documentation are also included as part of the creative document. These three components together form a unity and are presented as artefacts to represent the main focus of the research - the Poetics of Making.

The invisible picture

Aragón, Miguel A. 22 August 2012 (has links)
This report outlines the conceptual, procedural and formal descriptions of the artistic development I have acquired over the course of the past three years. The current violent events caused by the War on Drugs in México –my home country- led me to this research. Beginning with the idea of erasure as language, I concentrated on the use of processes that are reductive in nature to create the bodies of work mentioned in this report. Thousands of people die in drug-related violence every year in México; by using metaphors and visual metonymies to tie together process and subject matter I explore the idea of perception, memory and transformation. I believe my work is derived from a need to find meaning in these brutal events that repositions the corpse in our field of vision, reminding us that our physical existence is finite. / text

Rama, Jander Luiz January 2013 (has links)
In this research, I propose works that consist of hybrid designs for men and machines, using technical drawing and figure the posthuman as support for reflection, Indulging in metaphor the relationships between humans and their technology, and replacing part of everyday experiences when using machine. These are digital images and linoleum engraving which feature dialogues and tensions between craft and technology, as well as between the human figure and the figure mechanics. The basement is established by the theoretical literature from definitions of technical philosophy of Gilbert Simondon in dialogue with notes of Edmund Couchot and Flusser. Notes on the cyborg are discussed from Haraway, Santaella and Novaes. Hoelscher, Springer, Dobrovolny and Belofsky contribute with historical references and definitions of the technical drawing in dialogue with observations made in patent registers. Are still considered works of artists such as Stelarc, Albrecht Dürer, Da Vinci, Regina Silveira and Rubem Grilo as poetic references that establish dialogue with this plastic production. Try, thereby establishing propositions within the field of printmaking, technical drawing and hybrid languages, contributing to enlarge the construction of knowledge in the field of visual arts.

This work is divided in two sections; however, one is inseparable from the other. Appears at first, a photographic documentation of the artistic production developed in the master period. The second sections is a theoretical production in art with the main objective to validate the art as a provider instance of affective and cognitive knowledge, which is constantly looking for a transcendence experience. I will get deep into the matters of involving the body in the creation and production processes that offers a reconnection with our interiority and, strengthens the bonds of practical and theoretical reflection on research in art. Secondly, I will develop a vision of the printmaking as a discipline that provokes knowledge through its experimental and conceptual dimensions of ‘engraving’ and ‘reproduction’. Finally, I will analyzed the materiality of the artwork, emphasizing the issue of support, as an affections reverberation resource to an opening of thoughts in the production and image approach.
