Oribombo: arte da pós-modernidade / Oribombo: art of postmodernity

Rosangela Monteiro Perussi 10 October 2013 (has links)
This dissertation proposes to introduce Oribombo as art of postmodernity, bringing the question of hybridity of Oribombo, the situation of contemporary art, where there are all kinds of hybridisms, encouraged by complete freedom. The artist is not attached to the ideologies and more limitations that dictate the artistic conceptions of the past, even the recent past. Freedom is the slogan of the postmodernity. Freedom that is manifested in all segments of society. And in art, one of the consequences of free artistic making is the hybridism, and it is a constant, happening naturally. The artistic modalities are explored simultaneously, opening up a range of possibilities during the creation process. In the case of Oribombo, the artistic modalities that were artistically more interesting, were the painting, the printmaking, the sculpture and the collage. Another consequence of complete freedom gained by artists of the postmodernity, is that at certain times, inquires if everything is produced with the title art is really art. This discussion is very ample, but the premise that art is the production of an artist, is the one that resonates, not only in the artistic world but also among thinkers and writers, that directed their attention to the course of art history. The doings and artistic knowledge are indispensable to the visual artist. The artistic modalities that were merged into the creation process Oribombo are secular, but the freedom with which they were treated is a postmodern matter.

In order to discuss variables of the teaching images about the professional education teacher, the teaching work of the Federal Institute of Goiás was investigated through questions about: a) the art teachers identities in a school of technicist tradition; b) the teaching training processes in transit and in different places from and beyond school; c) the historical contextualization of the Brazilian professional education matrices; d) the dialogues between the artistic work and the teaching work as actions that feed back. For methodological inventions, the issue discussed was: how does an investigation in art invite me to experiment the art and how this artistic production infiltrates in a research problem? By understanding the art research as a research narrative this study was built at the same time that it told its story - a metalinguistic game that took shape while maintaining a pedagogical dialogue with itself. In this sense, this study arrives in appoitments such as: a) an identity crisis of the federal network teacher; b) the tension movements for the art education in the technical education context; c) the reaffirmation and reconfiguration of the professional education colorization throughout our histories; d) the necessity and the urgency to think about the art teaching practice in the professional education scope; e) the collegiality as an inseparable element for the art teacher formation; f) the artistic work (or experience) approximation with the teaching work as a dialogical action. In this way, we experimented an archaeological exercise to dig our and other stories for the understanding and reconfiguration of our profession contributing to the identity constitution and our difference within the public education.

Fernando Cardoso Saiki 29 September 2015 (has links)
endless body and other bodies presents a series of poetic experiments that seek to investigate the graphic possibilities of the Japanese woodblock printing, as a means of expression within the production of printmaking nowadays. In order to establish a dialogue between two very different cultural perspectives, this study has taken place at both the Visual Arts Department of the University of São Paulo and the Printmaking Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. This essentially empirical research explores the concept of corpus in a dual meaning. Both in a literal sense as the predominance of the human figure in the works, and in a constructed sense referring to an ever-expanding universe of sources. By combining lines of different shapes and intensities, the bodies in the works aim to fill harmoniously the surface through multipliable combinations.

PRINTMAKING IN TRANSITION : Curating relations with printmaking as a tool for action

Kralli Anell, Niki January 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates how the contemporary museum for printmaking Grafikens Hus motivates printmaking in socially engaged art projects based outside of the conventional gallery. It explores how printmaking is practiced as a tool to achieve artistic and curatorial goals, and investigates what Grafikens Hus strives to achieve by making space for meeting places. The analysis is based on in-depth readings of three case studies and two interviews with the director of Grafikens Hus Nina Beckmann and the curator Ulrika Flink. The theoretical perspective strives from concepts relating to audiences, relations and site-specificity outlined by curators engaged in socially engaged practices. The theoretical framework has also been informed by the curator José Roca’s approach to printmaking used as a device to achieve specific conceptual goals. The thesis is structured in three chapters: the first presents Grafikens Hus’s objectives and strivings, the second explores how Grafikens Hus use printmaking to stimulate confluence, the third examines Grafikens Hus’s ambition to curate meeting places. This thesis shows that printmaking is practiced as method for participation, used as tool for collaboration, seeking to create active subjects and co-producers. Furthermore, it demonstrates how Grafikens Hus use participation to form relations with places and thus generate a third room: places recharged with value by a dialogue oriented mind-set.

Na história da arte geral e brasileira, destaco artistas que apresentam produção significativa na área da gravura, enfatizando a cor na técnica de xilogravura / Abstract: This research aims to develop a study and consideration of the presence of color in my production of woodcuts by the subtractive process. Consisting of a series of colored woodcuts mostly lost in the process matrix, performed between the years 2009 and 2011. The conceptual relationship between printmaking and drawing will be explored and revealed through the very theme of the works (parties of popular Catholicism) and graphics processing. In the case of visual poetics, there will be a gradual process in which, concurrently, the results obtained experimentally subsidize further investigations, and thus successively over this research to achieve the final pointers / Mestrado / Artes Visuais / Mestre em Artes Visuais

transit

Janke, Christopher 25 October 2018 (has links)
This written thesis, transit, accompanies an exhibition by the same name and serves to contextualize the exhibit. The written portion begins with an inquiry into the nature of the contextualization itself, questioning the nature of the relationship between the written thesis, the exhibit, and the University which explicitly requires and connects the two, especially the ways that the written word as granted authority through an institution of higher education might undermine the exhibit’s intent to provoke thought into other forms of knowledge and other avenues of legitimacy than those presented by this institution. The thesis discusses the philosophic question sometimes called “the problem of reference” (how a word comes to refer to something in the world) as well as to the mystery of knowledge (how a human comes to know something). I discuss my own development of the artistic and poetic methods and concepts used in transit. I also inquire into the relationship between the conflicts in the cultures of the region, particularly during the time of the arrival of written language and capitalistic practices from Europe, and my struggle to understand and represent the ways that colonial concepts continue to dominate and frame our culture, even exhibits of art, such as transit, that work to cause thought, emotion, and reflection on other understandings of words, concepts, and knowledge through a physical de-stabilization of text and words.

William Bernard Cooke, George Cooke, and J.M.W. Turner: Business of the Topographical Print Series

Turpijn, Saskia C. 01 January 2019 (has links)
The organization of eighteenth and nineteenth-century British printmaking and publishing was based on economic principles and occurred in the collaborative sphere of the engraver’s studio. Print designers, engravers, printers, and publishers formed a professional network that operated on economic principles, publishing prints that served to generate income for its participants. These ventures faced great challenges in the lengthy and laborious processes of engraving and publishing, and in financing the project for the duration of that time. This project examines the economic structure of early nineteenth-century prints. Using comprehensive accounting records, it analyzes two well-known topographical print series. The profitable Southern coast by William Bernard Cooke and George Cooke is compared to the financially unsuccessful Tour of Italy by James Hakewill, series that both were partly based on watercolors by J.M.W. Turner. A well-managed organization and a sound financial framework laid the foundation for a profitable venture. The success of print series hinged on several critical success factors, such as access to sufficient capital, strict cost containment, and optimized print editions. An examination of the conflict that ended the collaboration between Turner and the engravers Cooke, originating in Turner’s demand for higher design fees, puts the validity of the arguments of both parties in a new light. The investigation into the work practice of the engravers Cooke and the economic factors that determined the outcome of their labor contributes to a better understanding of the printmakers’ opportunities and challenges at the onset of the modern art market.
