Houses and households in County Durham and Newcastle c.1570-1730Green, Adrian Gareth January 2000 (has links)
The north east of England witnessed dramatic economic and social change during this period. This study utilises documentary and archaeological sources to investigate the ways in which houses were built and lived in between the late sixteenth and early eighteenth century. Chapter One, `Introduction', addresses the issues associated with architectural change in this period and explains the evidence employed to analyse the social and economic context of housing and relationship of architectural to social change. Chapter Two, `Regionality', defines a region centred on County Durham including Newcastle as the regional capital. Chapter Three: Households in the Hearth Tax 1660-1680, analyses the social stratigraphy of housing mid-way through the study period. Chapter Four: House Survival, establishes the proportion of surviving , houses and questions previous assumptions involved in the analysis of housing change from standing buildings. Chapter Five: Rebuilding Houses, demonstrates the chronology of rebuilding by separate social groups and the ways in which the internal arrangement and external appearance of houses altered between c. 1570 and 1730. Chapter Six: Housing through the Life Cycle, outlines the typical changes in housing through the life cycle, focusing particularly on the relationship between marriage and rebuilding. Chapter Seven: Houses in the eighteenth century Property Market, shows the significance of the commercial exchange of houses from newspaper property advertisements. Chapter Eight: Durham and Newcastle Houses, analyses architectural change and the social topography and turnover in occupancy of housing in the urban centres of the north-east region. Chapter Nine: The Building Process, investigates the mechanisms for architectural change and evaluates the relationship between regional variation and social identity in houses. Chapter Ten: Conclusions, appraises the role of material culture in social process in houses in one corner of early modem England.

nalysing Change Resistance to an Information Systems-Supported Process in a South African Public HospitalFoli, Matilda 21 February 2020 (has links)
Introducing technological change to an organization’s normal processes can potentially bring about positive or negative results, depending mostly on the manner in which the change was facilitated and integrated into the organization. However, very little research has been done on information technology (IT) investment among hospitals, its effect on the personnel, as well as how it influences patient care and financial performance. Consequently, little is known about users’ resistance to new technologies and the precedents of technology rejection in healthcare. Therefore, this study seeks to fill the gap of understanding South African hospital staffs’ perceptions towards change, caused by introducing an information system into one of the hospital’s daily processes. Where resistance towards change is identified, the study aims to understand the reasons behind such resistance. Finally, it aims to find appropriate intervention strategies to deal with and minimize resistance. In doing so, the study seeks to contribute to the body of research regarding change resistance to information systems in public South African hospitals. By adopting a descriptive and exploratory interpretivist paradigm, in conjunction with an inductive approach, the study aims to get a better understanding of hospital staffs’ perceptions through shared meaning. The study adopted a case study research strategy, as it affords the researcher the opportunity to participate in the study, and as such contributes to the subjective interpretation of the findings. Data was collected using a mixed method approach, and was used to describe the difference between the current and proposed process. In addition, it was used to explore the reasons for change resistance to information system-supported change, and to explore methods of successfully introducing change to tertiary public hospitals in South Africa. Fourteen participants (7 medical interns and 7 ward clerks) who were directly involved in the process being studied, were interviewed. Two other participants (the head of the pharmacy and the patient flow manager), who were indirectly involved in the process, were interviewed, to verify the observed and mapped process. Interview data was analyzed qualitatively, firstly through coding techniques before using sentiment and thematic analysis. While the mapped process followed Business Process Modelling Notation conventions. In addition to a mapped proposed process, a change resistance conceptual model was developed from a conjunction of the findings and extensive review of literature. The conceptual model asserts that five main factors contribute to change resistance: unclearly defined duties; fear of job security and technology usage; years of service; resource availability and resource mismatch; as well as insufficient training resulting from the lack of a learning culture. These factors can be moderated by: the existing state of affairs referred to as status quo; management involvement; and communication. The conceptual model can be used to better understand the causes of change resistance, as well as how to minimize change resistance and successfully introduce change into a health organization. Change agents should aim to understand the status quo that exists in the organization and find ways of incorporating that into the change process. Furthermore, management should aim to involve and communicate with all affected stakeholders during a change process. This research has provided a better understanding of hospital staffs’ reactions to change, their reasons for resistance, and ways to minimize change resistance while successfully introducing change into a health organization.

This diploma thesis is focused on Change Management, for which I used translation "správa změn" in my thesis. The diploma thesis includes a proposal for solution of Change Management, which is based from elements of RUP (Rational Unified Process), and methodology and CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration). In the first chapter, entitled Software requirements, there are at first defined basic concepts related to Change Management. The chapter includes the definition of software requirements and specification of different types of requirements. Then it focuses on sphere of Requirements Management, involving Change Management. Next part of chapter includes improving of existing processes, which can be used for change-oriented processes. The following section introduces the basic characteristics of RUP methodology. At first there are described its basic features, best practices and elements of methodology. The following there are described the components and procedures of specific discipline Configuration and Change Management. A separate part of thesis is also focused on the the presentation of the CMMI model. In the charter, which is devoted to this model, there is a definition of basic concepts. Then there is description of the model, the various components and method of improving in CMMI model. In the following section is a description of the Change Management in the CMMI model. The final part tries to evaluate the Change Management in concept of the RUP methodology and CMMI model. It also focuses on aspects of integrating these two areas. I try design solution of Change Management based on analysis of available information. This solution is the main aim of my thesis.

The silence of the lamps : visibility, agency and artistic objects in the play production processStephens, Louise January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is a case study which looks at the creation of two theatre productions. Using the literature of Actor-Network Theory as a methodological provocation, it analyses the processes by which networks of actors created these theatre pieces with particular attention to where agency was observed. Through data gathered through observing material interactions, the thesis develops the concept of the (play)text: an object that is an expression of the ideas of the text, but is not the text itself – rather, a bricolage of ‘translations' of a piece of written and rehearsed work bound together by time and combined action. Conceiving of the eventual product – the (play)text in performance – as an example of the ANT concept of an agencement, a network of different people and objects working together to maintain a stable construction, but one which perpetually refines and redefines each of its component parts – this thesis proposes that the (play)text is an example of a dynamic and fractional artistic object, stabilised only briefly in the moments of its performance. Examining the theatre production process in this way contributes to ANT literature by providing specific examples of an artistic object created materially and agentively; it also highlights the limitations of the ways in which theatre has been used as a metaphor within Organisation Studies. Finally, it contributes to work on process change in showing an object which is, though it appears constantly improvisational and changing in its form, stabilised by material interactions.

Řízení změny v systému hlášení nežádoucích událostí v Nemocnici Žatec, o.p.s. / Managing the change in the reporting system of adverse events at Žatec HospitalOlšanová, Jana January 2019 (has links)
IN ENGLISH The aim of my thesis is to introduce the system of monitoring of undesirable events and its relationship with the legislative regulations of the Czech Republic and outline the process of controlled change in the organization. The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to the general description of the system of reporting undesirable events at national and international level and is based on research from available literature. The other important part of the theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to the quality system and basic processes of controlled change processes as described by the Czech and foreign authors. The practical part of the thesis is based on a case study from The Žatec Hospital, which represents the initial analysis of the monitoring system of the undesirable events in the organization, planning and description of the processes and individual steps in the process of controlled change with subsequent analysis of the system of adverse event monitoring after aforementioned change. Furthermore the results of the original and the current system comparison are being presented. The original system, as found by the initial analysis, was not fully functional and the data were compared with the data obtained after the revision of system's adverse event reporting, and an...

Hälsofrämjande insatser på regionalnivå Hur såg det ut under Covid-19 / Health promotion initiatives at regional level- How did it look like during Covid-19?Valmunen, Maja January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine the possibilities to health promotion efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic in three regions in Sweden. This study was a qualitative exploratory interview study. The data in this study were gathered through purposeful sampling, the sample contained five strategists from three regions in Sweden. The study’s data collection method was semi-structured interviews with an interview guide. To analyze the data, content analysis was used. The results of this study showed that the strategists experienced a change in working methods during the pandemic. During the pandemic, the strategists experienced that they had support from their management. Interest in public health and health promotion was perceived to have increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. The strategists' approach to health promotion work was perceived as unchanged. With regards to collaboration, the strategists perceived that in some cases they have been dependent on other actors around them, and their possibilities to continue their collaborative work during the pandemic. When this was not possible, it was perceived that collaboration deteriorated. The conclusion was that a limitation was expressed in which health-promoting initiatives could be implemented. The structure for efforts and collaboration was perceived to be unchanged. Collaboration deteriorated when different actors were unable to implement interventions and activities due to the pandemic.

Applications of Digital Engineering Tenets to Naval Special Warfare Requirement(s) DefinitionDavid Novotney (15360427) 28 April 2023 (has links)
<p> The world continues to advance at a hastening pace towards a technology enabled, digital-centric future. Legacy organizations, not born in the ‘digital age’ are examining methods to adapt through Digital Transformation (DT). The US Department of Defense (DoD) is one such organization. The DoD emerged their 2018 Digital Engineering Strategy intending on transforming the enterprise from one with ‘engineering process [that] are document-intensive and stove-piped, leading to extended cycle times with systems that are cumbersome to change and sustain’ to one that is ‘transforming its engineering practices to digital engineering, incorporating technological innovations into an integrated, digital, model-based approach’. </p>
<p> The 2018 Strategy acknowledges that the integration of digital engineering will not be exclusive to the engineering communities of the DoD; rather, the integration will impact the ‘research, requirements, acquisition, test, cost, sustainment and intelligence communities’. While the Strategy is designed to explain the ‘what’ necessary to integrate digital engineering, the various DoD Services (and their subordinates) will need to develop the ‘how’ regarding implementation that is culturally appropriate to their commands.</p>
<p> The study sought to examine ‘how’ implementation of digital engineering tenets may be appropriated to the existent culture of one US Special Operations Command subordinate at the Echelon III level (namely Naval Special Warfare Group – FOUR). The results of this study are intended to provide understanding and illuminate meaning behind those themes in Digital Engineering that Subject Matter Experts within Naval Special Warfare view as suitably adaptable to their processes. The intent is to provide themes with utility towards further efforts and research aimed at phasing Digital Transformation initiatives at Naval Special Warfare Group – FOUR.</p>
