A framework for the management of professional bodies in South Africa

Rajcoomar, Amendra 06 1900 (has links)
Professional bodies represent practitioners who continually seek guidance on industry related problems and challenges. Each professional body adopts values that are aligned to their own field of expertise. The operations of professional bodies are generally similar in many aspects and demands proficiency in order to maintain credibility and relevance. Research has revealed that professional bodies are lacking in effectiveness and need to improve so that maximum benefit can be relished by practitioners. This research attempts to develop a framework that can be utilised as a guide by professional bodies so that they can achieve excellence. The aim of the study was to develop a framework that can be used for the management of professional bodies by exploring the views and opinions of a total of 748 participants from management and members of professional bodies locally. The data was collected from interviews, and two separate questionnaires, one for professional bodies and the other for practitioners. The data was analysed statistically primarily using factor analysis to determine the significant factors that contributed to the developed framework for professional bodies. The questionnaires espoused questions related to the demographics of the respondents, management, mandate of professional bodies, offerings and benefits, assurance mechanisms, role of members, needs of members and more. The research instrument used the seven point Likert scale for the respondents to rate each question. The questionnaires were posted online for the respondents to participate. The research significant factors for professional bodies and practitioners emanated separately through factor analysis. The factors were then combined resulting in a total of 14 research overall factors that were used to develop a framework for professional bodies. The beneficiaries of this study are primarily professional bodies. The framework will also be useful to management in industry since it addresses partnership and collaboration efforts between industry, professional bodies and training authorities. / Business Management / DBL

This research has for objective to determine the role of associations’ professionals / employers' organizations in the accompaniment of the contractors. „Koučovací program „Academy of Coaching Excellence" z pohľadu jeho účastníkov" / Coaching program "Academy of Coaching Excellence" from the perspective of its participants

Kasanderová, Veronika January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deals with coaching and education of coaches as this form of developing and leading people is actually representing a new phenomenon. Coaching is not legislatively amended in Czech Republic what causes that anybody can call himself a coach. For this reason, three professional associations exist on Czech scene which associate professional coaches with required level of education acquired in specialized programs. One of those programs is "Academy of Coaching Excellence" which is the main topic of this thesis. Using qualitative research it was established that coach competencies of European Mentoring and Coaching Council were found in reflexions of participants of the program which should be followed by all coaches leaving the academy. In conclusion I also suggest recommendations that can further enhance not only the quality of program but also a quality of coaches.

The present work has as purpose the comprehension of the deviation in the process of constitutivity of a city. Therefore, it takes for analysis the city of Franco da Rocha as an example of allocation of deviation. Through the analysis of the relation of the city with the psychiatric hospital that instituted the referred city (the Hospital of the Juqueri) what is put in visibility are the speeches that institute the corporeity of the city, that is, the speeches that make the constituent contradiction function that this inaugural place founds and that materializes in the forms of belonging and of insertion in the urban space. We listened to the voices that materialized in the city and that materialize the body of Franco da Rocha: body fluid, place of signification, space of symbolic anchorage and changeable of the meanings that found modes of subjectivity, processes of identification marked by knowledge and power that dictate the discursive orders to the subjects that determine the possible processes of spacialization of themselves in the urban spaces. To bring the thickness of the discourses that circulate in the city constituted as a space of allocation of deviation implies also, into taking the litigious relations that are there produced, not only as effect, but as a place of materialization of constitutive contradiction. The body of the city, its corporeity, so it says then, analyzes of the body presented, the body exposed and the body that circulates meanings that affiliate in its founded movements / Doutorado / Linguistica / Doutor em Linguística

The Mediating Role of Professional Membership Associations Through the Prism of Organizational Social Capital

Saitgalina, Marina 08 1900 (has links)
Civil society emphasizes the importance for citizens to be involved and developed in association with other people. The importance of socialization for citizens to learn civic values and develop virtues of tolerance and solidarity is generated by voluntary associations. Mediating structures are the entities that help to integrate disconnected elements of civil society and strengthen communities. Social capital is one of the elements that is actively utilized by mediating structures to connect people to, and get involved with others in mobilizing their efforts collectively for both public and private causes through volunteering. Traditionally only charitable nonprofits were perceived to be mediating structures. However, there are scattered examples of non-charitable professional membership 501(c)(6) associations engaging themselves and their members in social programs and community volunteering unaccountable for in the literature. Using the theories of mediating structures and social capital this research questions the assumption of limited applicability of mediating structures. Extensive empirical analysis of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) dataset is performed to determine how social capital and other organizational factors affect the performance of mediating roles by professional membership associations.

Central Asian civil society : dynamics of associational life in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Alexandrov, Timur January 2018 (has links)
This thesis analyses local forms of civil society practised in contemporary Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and provides a common thread on which to base a Central Asian understanding of civil society. I look to find out factors and constituents, which on the surface might be different from a classical liberal concept of civil society. The thesis applies a wider anthropological framework, which sees civil society as a broad network of social relationships, including traditional forms of associational life that can be relatively independent of the state. The study draws upon a multi-locale ethnography in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan including in-depth and focus group interviews, participant observations, case studies, and archival research. I have investigated associations whose activities are concerned with reciprocal relations within society based on community solidarity, self-help, and mutual trust. These include professional associations, trade unions, ethno-cultural associations, religious organisations, courtyard clubs, the traditional Uzbek neighbourhood institution of mahalla, and informal practices of gap and khashar. While arguing that the meaning of civil society depends on context, the study has found that traditional elements of the preserved social fabric in Central Asian societies are reflected in today's networks of individuals. The thesis has generated knowledge on how local forms of associational life define the civil sphere by shaping social organisation, solidarity and mobilisation. Through empirical understanding of the public space, formal and informal networks that bond people together, we can locate wider ethnographic differences between not only the original and Central Asian concepts of civil society but also between two local cultures of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
