A implantação do tipo de planejamento proposto nesta tese é bastante complexa e inovadora, no Brasil e no mundo. Tais características impedem um tratamento, neste trabalho, ao mesmo tempo abrangente e detalhado em todas as suas múltiplas facetas. Optou-se, então, por definir, como uma contribuição específica da tese, o desenvolvimento, em detalhes, de estudos prospectivos do mercado de energia, incluindo programas de eficiência energética, em bacias hidrográficas, associados a planos nacionais e projeções de mercado estaduais. Para subsidiar estes estudos e se detectar tendências, realizou-se amplas análises retrospectivas sobre a economia e a matriz energética do Estado de São Paulo e da bacia escolhida, dentro do Estado, utilizando várias fontes de informações de uso público restrito e construindo uma base de dados sócio-econômicos e energéticos municipais para a bacia em questão. A bacia hidrográfica escolhida para ilustrar os procedimentos propostos nesta tese foi a da Unidade de Gerenciamento de Recursos Hídricos dos rios Piracicaba, Capivari e Jundiaí (UGRH ¿ PCJ). Foram avaliados, neste trabalho, programas de eficiência energética implementados em um passado recente na bacia hidrográfica objeto de estudo, que são comparados com programas de eficiência energética que tiveram sucesso no exterior. Como resultado desta avaliação, são propostas novas políticas energéticas, sobretudo na área de eficiência energética, para serem implantadas na bacia; seus prováveis impactos na demanda energética também são estimados, com o auxílio do modelo de projeção de demanda desenvolvido na tese / Abstract: Indicative studies of Integrated Resources Planning are proposed in this thesis for the Brazilian river basins, centred upon the availability, cost and quality of water, electricity and pipeline gas as important resources for regional development. The implementation of the kind of planning proposed in this thesis is highly complex and innovative, not only in Brazil but in the world. Such characteristics hinder an approach, here, which could be, at the same time, broad and detailed, in all its multiple aspects. The option taken, then, as a specific contribution of the thesis, was to develop detailed prospective studies for the energy market in river basins, including energy efficiency programmes, associated to national plans and market forecasts at the state level. To provide subsidies for these studies and to detect trends, wide scope retrospective analysis concerning the economy and the energy market in the State of São Paulo and in the river basin chosen were carried out, using several sources of classified information. A data basis containing social, economic and energy consumption information for the municipalities of that river basin was also built. The river basin chosen to illustrate the procedures proposed in this thesis was the UGRH-PCJ ¿ Unit of Hydro Resources Management of the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiai Rivers. Energy efficiency programmes recently implemented in the river basin studied here are evaluated in this work. Comparisons are made with well succeeded programmes abroad. As a result of this assessment, new energy policies for this river basin, particularly those concerning energy efficiency, are proposed. Predictive Validation of a Computer Programmer Selection Test

Subjects were 32 computer programmers employed in a large computerized tax-processing company in the Southwest. Ratings of each programmer's job performance by his/her immediate supervisor and scores on the Aptitude Test for Programmer Personnel (ATPP) were obtained. Relationships between test scores and criteria were examined to identify significant (p < .05) correlations. Statistical treatment of data included zero-order Pearson product-moment correlation, multiple linear regression, and first-order semi-partial correlation analyses. Results indicated that the ATPP did not successfully predict (2 >.05) the rated performance of the programmers.

Concurrent Validation of the Computer Programmer Aptitude Battery

Subjects were 34 computer programmers employed in a major computerized tax processing company. Scores in the Computer Programmer Aptitude Battery (CPAB) and ratings of each programmer's job performance by his immediate supervisor were obtained. The purpose of the study was to validate a selection test. The relationship between the aptitude battery and performance evaluations was examined to evaluate the test's ability in predicting programming performance. Statistical treatment of data included Pearson product-moment correlations and a multiple linear regression analysis. The total test scores and several of the subtests were found to be significantly correlated with performance.

Evaluating and Improving Domain-Specific Programming Education: A Case Study with Cal Poly Chemistry Courses

Programming is a key skill in many domains outside computer science. When used judiciously, programming can empower people to accomplish what might be impossible or difficult with traditional methods. Unfortunately, students, especially non-CS majors, frequently have trouble while learning to program. This work reports on the challenges and opportunities faced by Physical Chemistry (PChem) students at Cal Poly, SLO as they learn to program in MATLAB. We assessed the PChem students through a multiple-choice concept inventory, as well as through “think-aloud” interviews. Additionally, we examined the students’ perceptions of and attitudes towards programming. We found that PChem students are adept at applying programming to a subset of problems, but their knowledge is fragile; like many intro CS students, they struggle to transfer their knowledge to different contexts and often express misconceptions about programming. However, they differ in that the PChem students are first and foremost Chemistry students, and so struggle to recognize appropriate applications of programming without scaffolding. Further, many students do not perceive themselves as competent general- purpose programmers. These factors combine to discourage students from applying programming to novel problems, even though it may be greatly beneficial to them. We leveraged this data to create a workshop with the goal of helping PChem students recognize their programming knowledge as a tool that they can apply to various contexts. This thesis presents a framework for addressing challenges and providing opportunities in domain-specific CS education.

A pesquisa teve como recorte de análise três dos cursos ofertados para gestores escolares entre os anos de 2011 a 2013; são eles: Curso de Formação do Processo Seletivo Interno (PSI), MBA em Gestão Empreendedora em Educação e o Fórum de Gestão e Liderança Escolar. Os dados foram coletados por meio de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, observação participante e pesquisa de campo com aplicação de questionário. O questionário foi aplicado nos diretores escolares da Regional Metropolitana II. Na análise, foram investigados os seguintes elementos: perfil de formação do gestor, análise dos três cursos e sugestões de formatos e assuntos para a elaboração de novas propostas de formação. Esse estudo foi desenvolvido, a partir da contribuição de autores como: Fleury (2001), Freitas (2009), Lück (2000, 2009, 2010), Pacheco at al. (2009), Mintzberg (2010), Machado (2010, 2012), Kuenzer (2013), Polon (2013), dentre outros. A pesquisa mostrou os pontos relevantes e os limites dos três cursos analisados, revelando lacunas que necessitam ser trabalhadas. This is a qualitative research using the case study. Therefore, it was necessary to analyze the formation of policy and development of people of the State Department of Education of Rio de Janeiro, performed from 2010, from the perspective of actions taken to school directors, taking into account also the perception these managers, about this policy. The research was cut three analysis of the offered courses for school managers between the years 2011 to 2013; they are: Internal Selection Process Training Course (PSI), MBA in Entrepreneurial Management in Education and the School Management and Leadership Forum. Data were collected through documentary and bibliographical research, participant observation and field research with questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered in school directors of the Metropolitan Regional II. In the analysis, the following elements were investigated: educational profile manager, analysis of the three courses and suggestions of shapes and subjects for the development of new proposals for training. This study was developed from the author's contribution as: Fleury (2001), Freitas (2009), Lück (2000, 2009, 2010), Pacheco at al. (2009), Mintzberg (2010), Machado (2010, 2012), Kuenzer (2013), Polon (2013), among others. The diagnosis made was instrumental in the development of an Educational Action Plan aimed at the enhancement of training and development policy for school managers, implemented in the state.

Denna uppsats syftar till att diskutera påverkan av artificiell intelligens (AI) på programutvecklingsprocessen, både nuvarande och framtida. Fokus ligger på att undersöka hur programmerare och testare har kommit i kontakt med AI hittills och i vilken utsträckning de tror att AI kan utnyttjas i framtida programutvecklingsprocesser. Detta är särskilt relevant att undersöka eftersom AI-tekniken utvecklas snabbt och det finns redan verktyg som potentiellt kan underlätta programmerares och testares arbete. Uppsatsen är skriven på svenska. Forskningen är av kvalitativ karaktär och omfattar en litteraturgenomgång för att undersöka tidigare forskning om ämnet, samt kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer. Intervjuerna genomfördes med både testare och utvecklare för att få en bättre täckande bild av området för programutveckling. Totalt genomfördes fem semistrukturerade intervjuer där djupgående frågor ställdes för att förstå individernas tankar kring ämnet och deras motiv. Resultaten av studien visar att våra respondenter inte i stor utsträckning använder AI idag. Detta trots att både litteraturen och respondenterna själva påpekar att det finns verktyg som skulle kunna användas i båda processerna av programmering och testning. En slutsats är att det finns olika etiska och juridiska frågor som behöver redas ut innan verktygen kan börja utnyttjas. Dock är både respondenterna och tidigare forskning överens om att AI i framtiden kan förändra sättet som programutvecklingsprocessen utförs på, eftersom AI kan användas som ett verktyg för att effektivisera och potentiellt förbättra kvaliteten på tester och programmering. Detta kan leda till förändringar i rollerna för testare och programmerare. / This thesis aims to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the software development process, both current and future. The focus is on examining how programmers and testers have come into contact with AI so far and to what extent they believe that AI can be utilized in future software development processes. This is particularly relevant to investigate because AI technology is developing rapidly and there are already tools that can potentially facilitate the work of programmers and testers. The thesis is written in swedish. The research is of a qualitative nature and includes a literature review to examine previous research on the subject, as well as qualitative semi-structured interviews. The interviews were conducted with both testers and developers to get a more comprehensive picture of the software development field. A total of five semi-structured interviews were conducted where in-depth questions were asked to understand the individuals' thoughts on the subject and their motives. The results of the study show that our respondents do not use AI to a large extent today. This despite the fact that both the literature and the respondents themselves point out that there are tools that could be used in both processes of programming and testing. One conclusion is that there are various ethical and legal issues that need to be sorted out before the tools can begin to be used. However, both respondents and previous research agree that in the future AI may change the way the software development process is carried out, as AI can be used as a tool to streamline and potentially improve the quality of testing and programming. This can lead to changes in the roles of testers and programmers.

Enhancing comprehension in open distance learning computer programming education with visualization

This thesis describes a research project aimed at improving the tracing skills of first-year programming students enrolled for an introductory C++ course at an open distance learning institution by means of a tutorial in the form of a program visualization tool to teach the students to draw variable diagrams. The research was based on the findings from the BRACElet project (Clear, Whalley, Robbins, Philpott, Eckerdal, Laakso & Lister, 2011). A design-based research methodology was followed. To guide the process of developing the tutorial, a framework of 26 guidelines for developing and using visualization tools to teach programming was synthesized from the literature on computing education research CER, educational psychology and computer graphics. Guidelines were supplemented with reasons or explanations for their recommendation and considerations to be taken into account when using a guideline. The framework was enhanced by lessons learnt during the development and testing of the tutorial. The tutorial was tested and refined during two implementation cycles. Both cycles included quantitative and qualitative investigations. All students registered for the introductory module received the tool with their study material. For the quantitative investigations, students completed a questionnaire after using the tutorial. Through the questionnaire biographical data was acquired, the manner in which students used the tutorial and how they experienced using it. The responses to the questionnaires were statistically analysed in combination with respondents’ final marks. The statistical modelling indicated that the students’ biographical properties (a combination of level of programming experience, marks obtained for Mathematics and English in matric and first-time registration for COS1511 or not), had the biggest impact on their final marks by far. During the qualitative investigations students were eye tracked in a Human-Computer Interaction laboratory. The gaze replays in both cycles revealed that students’ reading skills impacted largely on their success, connecting with the findings from the quantitative investigations. Reflections on why the tutorial did not achieve its purpose; and why poor reading skills may have such a strong effect on learning to program, contribute some theoretical understanding as to how novices learn to program. / Computer Science / D. An investigation of students' knowledge, skills and strategies during problem solving in objectoriented programming

The object-oriented paradigm is widely advocated and has been used in South African universities since the late 1990s. Object-oriented computer programming is based on the object-oriented paradigm where objects are the building blocks that combine data and methods in the same entity. Students' performance in object-oriented programming (OOP) is a matter of concern. In many cases they lack the ability to apply various supportive techniques in the process of programming. Efficient knowledge, skills and strategies are required during problem solving to enhance the programming process. It is often assumed that students implicitly and independently master these high-level knowledge, skills and strategies, and that teaching should focus on programming content and coding structures only. However, to be successful in the complex domain of OOP, explicit learning of both programming and supportive cognitive techniques is required. The objective of this study was to identify cognitive, metacognitive and problem-solving knowledge, skills and strategies used by successful and unsuccessful programmers in OOP. These activities were identified and evaluated in an empirical research study. A mixed research design was used, where both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied to analyse participants' data. As a qualitative research practice, grounded theory was applied to guide the systematic collection of data and to generate theory. The findings suggest that successful programmers applied significantly more cognitive-, metacognitive- and problem-solving knowledge, skills and strategies, also using a greater variety, than the unsuccessful programmers. Since programming is complex, we propose a learning repertoire based on the approaches of successful programmers, to serve as an integrated framework to support novices in learning OOP. Various techniques should be used during problem solving and programming to meaningfully construct, explicitly reflect on, and critically select appropriate knowledge, skills and strategies so as to better understand, design, code and test programs. 本研究旨在探討台灣電視產業中,商品為何、商品的特性、商品的生產過程,以及與生產結構間的對應關係。本研究採行批判的傳播政治經濟學視野,對台灣四十餘年來的電視事業進行考察。研究結果指出,電視事業中的商品,首要應為節目本身,而台灣的電視節目的首要消費者,是廣告業主而不是觀眾。同時因為國民黨時期無線三台特殊的經營體制,形塑本地節目製作業的特性:規模小、業務人員為公司主要人力。導致台灣節目的廉價化與廣告化,不論在三台寡占市場時期,或衛星電視頻道百家爭鳴時期,皆是如此。 / My objective is to find out the commodity in TV industry in Taiwan, and figure out the characteristics of the commodity, the production process, and the relationship between the commodity and the production structure. Therefore, I studied the TV production process in Taiwan for 40 years from an critical political-economy perspective. At the end, I figure out that the commodity in TV industry is programmers, and the very first consumer of this commodity is advertisers rather than audiences. Because of the special operate model of three main TV broadcasters protected by KMT, TV program producers are small and poor, and they spend too much time in maintain the relationship with advertisers and TV managers. After all, TV program in Taiwan looks like advertisement and the quality of it is low end. No matter the market is monopolized by the three main broadcasters, or opened for hundred of satellite channels, the circumstance are all the same.
