Handicap et emploi : les chargés d'insertion professionnelle à la croisée des chemins / Disablement and employment : vocational project managers for the disabled at a crossroads

Bongiovanni Sorignon, Joëlle 16 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis draws upon a professional context in an attempt to highlight the emergence of major queries central to the everyday duties of vocational project managers supporting disabled workers in vocational rehabilitation centers. The underlying approach is based on the concept of activity and mediation through the process of self-confrontation. The objective is to help demonstrate and understand how these vocational professionals, despite being caught between sometimes conflicting values, between the labour market and the medico-social support they provide, perceive their position as they strive to enable disabled persons to find employment.

A Case Study of Cross-Cultural Complexities and Interpersonal Conflict Faced by Project Managers in Multicultural Software Development Project Teams

Aza, Hilary T. 01 January 2017 (has links)
The problem of cross-cultural complexities is a hindrance to effective multicultural team leadership across many industries. Cultural differences among project team members cause conflict, misunderstanding, and poor project performance. The absence of competent leaders is a problem because business in the future will rely increasingly on the use of multicultural project teams. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory case study was to explore the challenges faced and the cultural competencies needed by project managers leading multicultural software development project teams to successfully manage and resolve cross-cultural interpersonal conflict amongst project team members. The researcher collected data using semi-structured interviews with the population of 12 project managers recruited from the Project Management Institute’s credentialed project management professionals LinkedIn group. Through a cross-case synthesis, the researcher identified common themes and aligned them with the two study constructs: cross-cultural interpersonal conflict resolution and multicultural skills. The findings of the research revealed that the project managers perceived challenges including language barriers, cycles of mistrust, and competitive attitudes when managing multicultural teams. In order to mitigate these difficulties, the participants reported that project managers require excellent communication, negotiation, and emotional intelligence skills. The contributions of this study to the field of conflict analysis and resolution include highlighting common cross-cultural complexities encountered in multicultural teams, as well as effective methods of minimizing, eliminating, or mitigating these issues and the resulting interpersonal conflict.

Being an effective project manager : an exploration within project-oriented organisations

Barmayehvar, Behnod January 2013 (has links)
As more organisations apply project management to perform projects in order to deliver high quality products and services, the demand for project managers grows, and thus more research is required on the effectiveness of project managers (Crawford, 2005). Hence, this research project aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations. The purpose of this research project is to fill the research gap by bringing the practical perspective of the effectiveness of project managers, from different informants in various fields, into the theoretical perspective in the form of a conceptual model (i.e. the combination of the constructs: core categories, categories, and concepts) through in-depth interviews and the grounded theory method. This qualitative study attempts to provide a fresh insight into the leading and managing projects, and hence into the effectiveness of project managers in project-oriented organisations. This research project is one of the very rare studies investigating the matter of an effective project manager, particularly within project-oriented organisations. It is also one of the very few studies investigating the role of leadership in the effectiveness of project managers, particularly within project-oriented organisations. In addition, it is one of the very rare studies providing the conceptual model as the criteria for project managers to become effective within project-oriented organisations. Furthermore, it is one of the very rare studies providing the practical model as the tool to evaluate the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations. The research project provides an insightful understanding of the notion of leadership, management, and emotional intelligence, and uncovers their roles in the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations. The research project highlights the value of qualitative inquiry for exploring individuals’ perceptions and lived experiences, as well as investigating phenomena which have been relatively under-investigated to date. It also highlights the usefulness of grounded theory, which builds concepts grounded in empirical data.

First was the laying of groundwork which involved questionnaire planning and design to ensure coverage, completeness, relevance, usefulness, and logical (and where pertinent, statistical) validity of the answers for performing analysis and drawing inferences. The second part was the actual analysis of the survey results, and compilation of the research details into this written report with a conclusion (my M.S. thesis). </div><div><br></div><div>The survey was mainly in the form of multiple-choice questions, along with two free form text boxes to glean additional insights from comments and notes that structured questions with fixed choices for answers could not have easily elicited.</div><div><br></div>

Projektstyrning : En jämförande fallstudie om nutida och historiska faktorers påverkan / Project management : A comparative case study on the impact of contemporary and historical factors

Lundström, Lina January 2017 (has links)
Background: The fact that companies carry out projects have become more common inrecent decades. Projects are often described based on the time limit that surrounds theproject where the project is unique while it is part of the company's history and the futureability to conduct project work. It has proved difficult to control projects based on the modelscreated for traditional organizations and there is a need for increased knowledge on howcontrol can be understood in relation to projects. Aim: The aim of this study is to contribute to increased understanding of the similarities anddifferences in what leads to change in different projects and how the management of projectscan be understood from the company's control system. Methodology: This study is based on two projects and the companies the projects are partof. The study has a qualitative approach in which semistructured interviews were used fordata collection. Conclusions: Management's change in projects can not only be explained by studyingcurrent and situational variables. Current and situational variables are important tounderstand why management changes, but by studying the history of companies andprojects, the change of management can be better explained. The impact of the projectmanager and project members on the change of control is important in explaining whymanagement changes based on different starting points in different projects.
