Previous issue date: 2016-08-09 / This dissertation attempts to interpret and explain the impact of the historical Jesus
on the life of his first disciples, as well as on the communities that came about around
him. It is argued that the reason of Jesus‟ impact has to do with the fact that he
merged the two types of the prophetic weberian sociology, namely, the exemplary
prophet and the emissary prophet. In order to do that, the synoptic Gospels are taken
as the main sources for the knowledge of the perception the first communities had of
Jesus. Through research in these sources, it is observed that the prophetic
characteristics are verified both in the deeds and in the words of Jesus. Indeed,
Jesus understood himself as God‟s prophet. Additionally, both his disciples and those
who met him, perceived him first and foremost as a prophet. Furthermore, his actions
in the synoptic Gospels are strongly marked by the prophetic tradition. This thesis
also reveals that the preaching of Jesus is shaped by that tradition in form and
content. Finally, through the exegetical narrative of the temptation in the desert, it is
demonstrated that the first communities formed around him perceived Jesus as both
an exemplary prophet and as an emissary prophet. In this sense, the narrative
presents the merging of the mystical experience, typical of the exemplary tradition
with the ascetic practices and the ethical radicalism, characteristic of the emissary
tradition. Therefore, the disciples and the first Christian communities perceived in
Jesus a charismatic power which permeated his life and word, being that fact the
reason of the great impact Jesus exerted over their lives and, in turn, over entire
communities and, eventually, over the whole society.
weberiana: o profeta exemplar e o profeta emissário.

Previous issue date: 2007-12-14 / This study deals with the pericope Is 49,1-6, which is known as the Second Song of
the Servant of JHWH and which is inserted into Deutero-Isaias. We affirm that
there is a cohesive unity within this block of text even though there is no unanimity
among scholars with respect to the unity of the Song and with respect to the analysis
of the structure of the same text. This being the case, we will work within that area
where there is general agreement among scholars; that is, with respect to the
parallelism contained in the Song. The literary genre is that of an autobiographical
narrative which tells of the vocation of the Servant from his existence within his
mother's womb up to the time of the call to actualize his mission. The Servant
responds to God's call and proclaims himself as the one chosen to free the people of
Israel. In order to concretize his mission the prophet-servant takes on the experience
of suffering within the midst of a suffering people. The Servant is a prophet because
he enters into the daily life of the exiles, participating in their gatherings and in their
farm activities. Within community they were able to support one another through the
practice of solidarity and of sharing, while affirming their identity and faith in the one
God. Through this exegesis grounded in the historic-critical method, one grasps that
the Servant is a prophet. The prophet-servant has the mission to be a light for the
nations, and a bearer of salvation to the people of God by means of freeing them
from their oppressors.
no meio do povo sofrido.
O profeta-servo

[en] THE SALVATION THROUGH THE NEW CREATION: A STUDY ABOUT TERM RÛAH IN EZ 37,1-14 / [pt] SALVAÇÃO COMO NOVA CRIAÇÃO: UM ESTUDO SOBRE O TERMO RÛAH EM EZ 37,1-14ANTONIO BENTO GOMES REIS 28 April 2011 (has links)
[en] This actual study broaches the Israel experience in the most hard and critical moment of its history, known as the Babylonian Exile, which started in the year of 586/7 B.C. Ez 37,1-14, is placed in the second period of the prophet preaching. This period was called by “The Proclamation of Salvation”, what is mainly showed in the chapters 33-48. In this preaching stage the prophet wants to comfort exiled people and lead them to the regret. Analyzing Ez 37, 1-14, we find out that YHWH never leave His people, and even though being in that critical situation showed by the history, The Lord manifested Himself through the x:Wr as the Creator and Savior God. To reach this conclusion, this actual study is structured in two stages. Firstly, we bound the passage of Ez 37,1-14, and analyze the text in its formal aspects and its composition. Finally, we broach its theological aspects, passing by the exile historical time in order to comprehend the best passage of the context of the salvation as New Creation that happens through the x:Wr.

[pt] A IMAGEM DE DEUS EM SF 3,14-17 NA MENSAGEM DE JUÍZO DO LIVRO DE SOFONIAS / [en] THE IMAGE OF GOD IN ZEPH 3,14-17 IN THE JUDGMENT MESSAGE IN THE BOOK OF ZEPHANIAH30 June 2008 (has links)
salvação do povo redimido.
A presente dissertação visa verificar
precedentes do livro.
[en] The image of God in Sf 3,14-17 is an image of joy for the
salvation of the redeemed people. God`s delight comes
manifested after a threat of total destruction of the
creation. The present dissertation aims at verifying in full
detail if the joy exhortation driven to the people by the
prophet as well as the manifestation of God s joy have
coherence with the remaining Zephaniah`s book.
This study is based on our research on works of several
scholars in the last 30 years. It has great relevance once
it brings God s dense message of justice and
generous love. The development of the present research is
based on the application of a diachronous approach (chapter
2) and a synchronous one (chapter 4) in order to provide an
acceptable critical basis on the pericope in study. It
begins with the translation of the text, followed by the
delimitation, dating and its organization. Then an exegetic
analysis on formal, redactional and theological
aspects is done. It continues with the verification of the
terminological, thematic and theological correspondences
among the text and the remaining of the book.
This study reaches the conclusion that the pericope Sf
3,14-17 reveals contact points with the precedent chapters
of the Zephaniah`s book. It also shows the passage from a
judgmental process (cf. Sf 1,2-3,8) to a salvation process
of those converts. Therefore, the exteriorization of the joy
of God is justified.

Prophetic pastoral care in the aftermath of trauma: forging a constructive practical theology of lived religion from organized trauma response ministriesWalsh, Michelle 24 September 2015 (has links)
Violent traumatic events impact communities and demand ministerial responses that are not only pastoral in nature but also prophetic, challenging institutional and sociocultural roots of violence through vision and analysis. There is a noticeable gap in qualitative studies of the prophetic pastoral practices of organized trauma response ministries in addressing violence. This dissertation addresses this gap through qualitative case studies of two trauma response ministries operating in diverse cultural contexts.
The dissertation forges a beginning constructive practical theology of trauma from the voices, experiences, and practices of survivors and their trauma response ministry providers, lifting up the need for an intercultural approach and examining the results for untapped theological resources for constructive practical theologies of trauma. By integrating trauma studies into lived religion approaches, this dissertation conceptualizes survivors' use of material objects, rituals, and surroundings to enact a 'theopoetics of material religion.' This theopoetics captures the constructive theological significance of survivors' use of material objects, rituals, and surroundings for prophetic and performative testimony and witness.
The introduction and chapter one make the case that addressing the problem of violent trauma in the American context calls for an approach rooted in prophetic pastoral care practices, one that is attentive to the particular contextual realities and resources of communities living in the aftermath of trauma. Using a lived religion methodological approach enhanced by trauma studies and a theopoetics of material religion, chapter two presents a case study of an inner-city lay-led trauma response ministry that serves family survivors of homicide. Chapter three presents a case study of a denominational-based trauma response ministry's services to a suburban congregation following a gun assault. Chapter four illustrates the theological themes witnessed in each case study and places these in intercultural dialogue. The final chapter engages current constructive theologies of trauma and brings the insights of the case studies to bear on interpretations of theology in the aftermath of trauma. The dissertation begins to forge of a constructive practical theology of trauma and concludes with strategic recommendations for constructive practical theologians, pastoral care providers, and social and ecclesial structures.

JAZZ’S HIDDEN TRANSCRIPTS: BETWEEN CALIBAN AND COLTRANE CRITICAL IMPROVISATIONAL PEDAGOGY AS PRAGMATIC POLITICSAlunan, Susan Catherine, 0000-0001-5677-7132 January 2022 (has links)
This project addresses problems of political disengagement, social exclusion, multi-generational poverty, and social injustice in communities left behind by an incomplete democracy, now in acute crisis. Using jazz improvisation as a metaphor for Dewey’s ideals for a thriving and creative American democracy, this normative critical theory and pedagogy is part of a multi-pronged approach to radical democratic reform. Building on theories of humanistic prophetic pragmatism, critical pedagogy, and democratic theory, and suffused with critical race feminism, this critical approach begins with individual transformation, critical consciousness, and agency of marginalized citizens, through critical improvisational pedagogy. The approach seeks to prepare more diverse voices for active democratic deliberation and effective participation in democratic public spaces of input, negotiation, and challenge for the issues that affect marginalized people. The project creates an architecture, a basic template, and an operationalization strategy for the development of centers of critical improvisational pedagogy for the transmission of critical knowledge, mentoring, community support, and apprenticeships through culturally appropriate arts and cultural programming in accessible local community sites.
Key Words: critical improvisational pedagogy, prophetic pragmatism, critical feminist theory, radical democratic reform, jazz imaginary, critical consciousness / Political Science

Interdependence, responsibility and partnership : a German perspective on the Northern Local Church in her international contextSchmidt, Jörg 05 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This thesis is an attempt to investigate how local churches (re)define their international orientation in response to the shockwaves of globalisation and their interpretation of the signs of the times. The analysis is guided by the key dimensions of interdependence, responsibility, and partnership. The local church is expected to have reached an increasing awareness of interdependence in her international relationships by the emergence of the postmodern systemic paradigm as never before in the history of the ecumenical movement. Consequently, this results in a sense of responsibility developing directly from a prophetic reading and an interpretation of the signs of the times as well as in a receptivity to be fertilised by international impulses. The local church is perceived by both individual Christians and pastors as direct platform for international responsibility. The wounds of the world, the needy and the suffering are suggested as inviting primary responses of local churches in the North. International church partnerships are investigated as practical attempts to live out interdependent relationships, to translate the sense of responsibility into action, and to receive fertilisation from the partner churches. Qualitative case studies from Reformed, United (Lutheran/Reformed) and Free churches present a status analysis of churches regarding the points under discussion.
The tendency is observed that pastors inc~easingly look for ways alternative to the old ecumenical structures, which are characterised by rich/poor and donor/recipient relationships, thus operating their churches with free initiative and association.
Studies regularly narrow down topics to interdependence, postmodernism, development, development politics, church development services, international partnerships, ecumenical learning, etc. Often recommendations for action are made based on the one single area of research presented. In this study, however, it is argued that pastors and churches do not derive their decisions and programmes from considerations of one single area, but they consider all these areas together. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / D. Mission and spiritual mapping in AfricaVan der Meer, Erwin 11 1900 (has links)
Spiritual mapping is an emerging trend within Evangelicalism which is affecting Christian mission globally. Spiritual mapping maintains that Satan has assigned territorial demons to every geo-political unit in the world. Territorial demons hold the people in their locality in spiritual bondage to sin, false religion or other evils.Spiritual mapping is the practice of identifying these territorial demons in order to loosen the influence of these demons by means of strategic level spiritual warfare
(SLSW). SLSW refers to the practice of 'territorial exorcism' through
identificational repentance, prayer walks, proclamation and other means. Spiritual mapping can be appreciated for its focus on liberating people and societies from evil. However, spiritual mapping and its underlying theology is defective from a biblical, historical and contextual perspective and is potentially harmful for church and mission in Africa. Further missiological reflection on a spiritual warfare dimension in mission is necessary within the global hermeneutical community. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th.
