Seventh-Day Adventism and the remnant idea : a critical and analytical study of the Seventh-Day Adventist ecclesiological self understanding

Hachalinga, Passmore 11 1900 (has links)
Adventists hold various views with regard to their understanding of themselves as a church. They view themselves as the last remnant church of God today. They also believe that they are a part of the general Christendom. Adventists acknowledge the presence of sincere Christians in other churches. In this study, the background to twentieth century Christian ecclesiological self-understanding is examined. The origins and development of the Seventh-day Adventist ecclesiological self-understanding, especially as it relates to the remnant idea is examined. Three different types of the remnant namely historical, faithful and eschatological can be identified. Biblical images/models used in the development of ecclesiology agree with the biblical understanding and application of the remnant idea to God's people. The remnant idea is not limited in its application to organizational entities. Seventh-day Adventists should adopt an open, inclusive and universal view of the remnant concept. / Theology / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. M. (Systematic Theology)

Interdependence, responsibility and partnership : a German perspective on the Northern Local Church in her international context

Schmidt, Jörg 05 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This thesis is an attempt to investigate how local churches (re)define their international orientation in response to the shockwaves of globalisation and their interpretation of the signs of the times. The analysis is guided by the key dimensions of interdependence, responsibility, and partnership. The local church is expected to have reached an increasing awareness of interdependence in her international relationships by the emergence of the postmodern systemic paradigm as never before in the history of the ecumenical movement. Consequently, this results in a sense of responsibility developing directly from a prophetic reading and an interpretation of the signs of the times as well as in a receptivity to be fertilised by international impulses. The local church is perceived by both individual Christians and pastors as direct platform for international responsibility. The wounds of the world, the needy and the suffering are suggested as inviting primary responses of local churches in the North. International church partnerships are investigated as practical attempts to live out interdependent relationships, to translate the sense of responsibility into action, and to receive fertilisation from the partner churches. Qualitative case studies from Reformed, United (Lutheran/Reformed) and Free churches present a status analysis of churches regarding the points under discussion. The tendency is observed that pastors inc~easingly look for ways alternative to the old ecumenical structures, which are characterised by rich/poor and donor/recipient relationships, thus operating their churches with free initiative and association. Studies regularly narrow down topics to interdependence, postmodernism, development, development politics, church development services, international partnerships, ecumenical learning, etc. Often recommendations for action are made based on the one single area of research presented. In this study, however, it is argued that pastors and churches do not derive their decisions and programmes from considerations of one single area, but they consider all these areas together. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Mission and spiritual mapping in Africa

Van der Meer, Erwin 11 1900 (has links)
Spiritual mapping is an emerging trend within Evangelicalism which is affecting Christian mission globally. Spiritual mapping maintains that Satan has assigned territorial demons to every geo-political unit in the world. Territorial demons hold the people in their locality in spiritual bondage to sin, false religion or other evils.Spiritual mapping is the practice of identifying these territorial demons in order to loosen the influence of these demons by means of strategic level spiritual warfare (SLSW). SLSW refers to the practice of 'territorial exorcism' through identificational repentance, prayer walks, proclamation and other means. Spiritual mapping can be appreciated for its focus on liberating people and societies from evil. However, spiritual mapping and its underlying theology is defective from a biblical, historical and contextual perspective and is potentially harmful for church and mission in Africa. Further missiological reflection on a spiritual warfare dimension in mission is necessary within the global hermeneutical community. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. On the one hand, followers of the marketing practices argue that it is an option which is available for the Catholic Church to efficiently fulfill its objectives. On the other hand, opposers to the marketing practices affirm the incompatibility between the marketing logic and the prophetical logic of the jewish-christian tradition. This group postulates that the marketing logic is attached to that one of the consumist society and, therefore, to the capitalism logic. Their criticisms to capitalism is, consequently extended to marketing itself. Given this controversy, this dissertation has, as its main goal, showing there is no contradiction in the usage of some marketing techniques in the evangelization practice by groups committed to the prophetic criticism about the consumist culture, in order to gain more efficacy in its prophetic practice. Hence, we intend to show that there is contradiction between the marketing logic and the prophetic logic, but there is not such contradiction between the usage of marketing techniques and the prophetic mission of christianism. As for the methodological approach, we have chosen to apply the bibliographical research, which was primarily based on the following authors: Peter Drucker and Philip Kotler, key contributors to define the meaning of marketing in the Marketing and Business Administration area, Jung Mo Sung who contributed in the analysis of the relationships among marketing logic, prophetical logic and evangelization and Afonso Murad who was an important reference to articulate the concepts of management and strategy in the evangelization practice.(AU) / A proposta de utilização do marketing na ação evangelizadora da Igreja Católica provoca debates entre os diversos segmentos da instituição.

Creuza Elena da Silva 06 January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this work is to try and highlight the human values present in the interactive relations between Jesus and the women of his time. As a first step we look at some points highlighted by an exegesis of the pericope Mk 14, 3-9 in order to get a better understanding of the text. And in point 1.4, analysis of the content, we endeavour to highlight the gesture of an anonymous woman, in the house of Simon the leper, anointing and recognising Jesus as the Messiah hoped for by all. Her action guarantees for her the title of prophetess or female prophet. In the second section of our text we see Jesus interacting freely with women, including them in his discipleship of equals, rescuing their values and defending them in face of the privileges of men. Through this we can substantiate the thesis that throughout the entire history of the people of God we encounter the struggle (waged by) women for a more dignified life either through their actions or silently. (Here) Jesus confirms their actions and silences, giving them their rightful place and thus proclaiming them as a paradigm of authentic discipleship.

Diplomacy Rhetoric and the Human Rights Appeals of Jeane J. Kirkpatrick and Vernon A. Walters

Rogina, Sergio A. (Sergio Armando) 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis investigates the extent to which Ambassador Kirkpatrick's and Ambassador Walters' United Nations discourses on human rights reflects the rhetorical themes of "prophetic dualism" and "technocratic realism." A metaphoric analysis of six speeches reveals that both Kirkpatrick's and Walters' arguments were framed through an ideological division between Democracy and Communism. The presence of "prophetic dualism" in Kirkpatrick's and Walters' discourses is explained as an extension of President Reagan's bipolar rhetoric on world affairs. The presence of "technocratic realism" in Walters' discourse is described as resulting from a unique set of political and rhetorical factors. The exacting nature of "prophetic dualism" may make it ill suited as a method of argument in the realm of diplomacy.

С. Ю. Лермонтова : магистерская диссертация / The tradition of biblical prophetism in the poems "The Prophet" by A. S. Pushkin and M. Yu. Lermontov

А., Krasnoperova, S. A. January 2023 (has links)
The study is sustained in the interdisciplinary paradigm of philological and theological knowledge. Chapter 1 reveals the concept of prophetism in the biblical tradition, in particular the idea of the calling and ministry of prophets in the books of the Old and New Testaments. In the 2nd and 3rd chapters, first, the experience of scientific research on the poetic texts "The Prophet" by A. S. Pushkin and M. Yu. Lermontov is summarized (sections 2.1, 3.1), and then a hermeneutic analysis of these texts is carried out (sections 2.2, 3.2) which, in fact, became exemplary for understanding the concept of the poet-prophet for all subsequent Russian poetry of the 19th–20th centuries. Based on the results of the study, the motives of martyrdom and co-working are emphasized in Pushkin's text, while in relation to Lermontov's "Prophet" the idea is expressed of using the gospel situation of Christ's communication with the Pharisees. All this allows us to conclude that in the verse culture of the New Age, a creative dialogue between secular literature and the actual church text of the spiritual and religious tradition is relevant.
