Paauglių nuostatos į prostituciją vertybinių orientacijų kontekste: sociologinis aspektas / Teenagers' value judgement towards prostitution: sociological aspect

Krikščiukaitytė, Rita 16 August 2007 (has links)
Didėjant skyrybų skaičiui , kai kurias staiga dėl to nuskurdusias moteris ima vilioti prostitucija. Į prostitučių gretas įsilieja ir jaunos merginos, kurios baigė studijas, tačiau nerado darbo, todėl laikinai, kol suras kitokią veiklą, įsidarbina masažo kabinetuose arba „merginų pagal iškvietimą“ tinkluose. Deklaruojama, kad siekiant sėkmingai spręsti prostitucijos prevencijos uždavinius svarbu remtis esamos situacijos pažinimu, rizikos grupėms priklausančių nepilnamečių nuostatų į prostituciją bei jų vertybinių orientacijų išaiškinimu, nes nepilnamečių įtraukimo į prostituciją prevencijos sistema negali remtis vien tradiciniais autoritariniais bei teisinio prostitucijos persekiojimo būdais. Prostitucijos negali paaiškinti koks nors vienas... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Event in the same society or community opposed values can be found. For some physical comfort and luck are more important, others prefer simplicity and a tranquil life. In the shifting century when people, ideas, goods and the information are traveling all around the world it is not surprising that we encounter the contradictions of values. One of such contradictions is the phenomenon of prostitution. Prostitution is a complex social phenomenon which has deep linkages with the values of the society and resistance to various negative social phenomena: poverty, violence, exploitation, unemployment, etc. Today, same as in the past, the ranks of prostitute are mostly recruited by women from poor milieu, though now they are joined by many representatives of the middle class. As the number of divorces increases, some women who consequently become poor are tempted by prostitution. The ranks of prostitutes are also joined by young women who finished the studies, but didn’t find a job, thus temporarily until they find an activity they employ in massage parlours or “call girl” networks. It is stated that in order to successfully solve the objectives of prostitution’s prevention it is important to take into account the cognition of the existing situation, attitudes to prostitution of juveniles belonging to risk groups and the interpretation of their value orientation, because the prevention system of juvenile involvement in the prostitution can’t be based only on the traditional... Common Woman to Commodity: Changing Perceptions of Prostitution in Early Modern England, C. 1450-1750

Houston-Goudge, Sydney 12 December 2011 (has links)
The study of prostitution in early modern England is often informed by incorrect terminology. The modern historiographical use of the term “prostitute” is misleading, as the term did not appear until the sixteenth century, and the act of selling sex did not come to dominate understandings of whoredom until many years later. This thesis examines the etymological history of the term “prostitute” and its cognates, and their changing legal, economic, and cultural meanings. This thesis investigates the intersection of late medieval and early modern conceptions of illicit sex with the rise of commercial capitalism to track the conceptual development of transactional sex as a commodity. Despite the influence of commercial capitalism on aspects of sexual immorality and developing conceptions of difference between paid and unpaid illicit sex, the primary division remained between chaste and unchaste women throughout the whole of the early modern period.

The decriminalisation of prostitution in South Africa : towards a legal framework

Rhoda, Gary January 2010 (has links)

This mini-thesis seeks to provide a substantiation for the need for a new legal framework for South Africa in order to address prostitution. It will argue that the current legal framework has failed in its desired aims and in addressing prostitution effectively. This mini-thesis critically analyses the underlying reasons for prostitution in South Africa and discovers that it is influenced by a myriad of interrelated factors. The current level of poverty and the prevailing socio-economic paradigm in South Africa have contributed to its complex nature. The demand for prostitution acts as a catalyst for both the further exploitation of prostitutes and women, while making them vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases. I establish that criminalisation alone is not sufficient to address prostitution, especially given the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The decriminalisation of victimless sexual offences.

Stone, Karen Lara. January 1996 (has links)
This dissertation serves as an analysis of the current legislation criminalising both prostitution and homosexuality. The object of the dissertation is to explore the possibility of decriminalisation in the aforementioned areas of the criminal law, on the premise that the criminalisation of the aforementioned areas is not justified. The dissertation provides an overview of the historical progression of the law in relation to the sexual offences of homosexuality and prostitution, and examines the legislative trends that emerge within the historical context. The law and its relation to morality is explored, with the objective of examining whether morality can serve as a sufficient justification for criminalisation of conduct. Additionally the legislative justification for criminalising both homosexuality and prostitution is explored in order to determine the legitimacy thereof The current legislation is defined and examined. The Constitution of South Africa, and specifically the Bill of Rights is investigated to determine whether there can be any foundation therein for an appeal for decriminalisation. Finally, an examination of legislative alternatives is documented. The conclusion is then derived therefrom. The purpose of the dissertation is to examine the decriminalisation of victimless sexual offences, and the results of the research demonstrate favourably towards such an initiative. / Thesis (LL.M.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 1996.

Towards A Radical Feminist Change: The Empowerment Of Survivors From Prostitution, Transgression Of Normativities And The Abolition Of Power Differences.

DEFFOIN, Emilie January 2014 (has links)
This master thesis is an attempt to illustrate the role of a feminist and abolitionist organization towards the enhancement of women’s social conditions and their representation in society. The study is based on my three months training at an Icelandic organization, Stígamót, which is an “Education and Counselling Centre for Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Violence”. My stay there included a series of interviews with social workers and survivors of prostitution and sexual trafficking. The centre has a multi-faceted approach, using feminist empowerment as a methodological process for the purpose of increasing the quality of life. Together with feminist theories on intersectionality and empowerment as methodological tools, I am researching the relations between survivors’ empowerment, their agency, with a radical political change, leading to gender-equal society.

Pimps, Predators and Business Managers: Constructing the 'Procurer' in Ontario Courts

Hawkes-Frost, Caitlin 08 January 2014 (has links)
The concept of the ‘procurer’ comes from section 212 of Canada’s Criminal Code, which prohibits directing, enticing, assisting or profiting off the prostitution of another person. A contentious debate surrounds Canada’s prostitution laws, with a constitutional challenge currently before the Supreme Court. Within this climate of debate, the concept of the ‘procurer’ has moved out of the strictly legal sphere and into a broader discourse, with a range of parties laying their claims to truth on the “realities” of the industry generally and on the procurer specifically. Using a methodology of Foucauldian discourse analysis, this thesis examines Ontario Provincial Court case summaries to consider the contribution of the Canadian judiciary to discourse on the procurer. Findings suggest that the judiciary replicates many of the existing stereotypes of prostitution and its participants, such as the procurer as pimp, while (re)producing a small counter discourse of the procurer as business manager.

Rethinking juvenile prostitution : insights from youths on the street

Morris, Jason. January 1999 (has links)
Juvenile prostitution is a social issue of major concern and controversy in our society. Research documenting high rates of violence, substance abuse, HIV risk-behaviour, and other such risks and problems have reinforced arguments to protect and prohibit youth from prostitution activity. However, presenting youths' experiences in prostitution as unidimensionally negative and deficiency-based potentially creates other important problems for youth, perhaps explaining criticisms of social services for being generally ineffective and, at times, aggravating youths' situations. Left out in these debates are often the voices of those who matter most, the youth. The present study has sought to hear and articulate youths' voices, suggesting that prostitution is a diverse and complex reality and that effective intervention begins with hearing voices and respecting choices. In-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted for this study with ten street youth with experiences in prostitution as a minor and three key informants in youth protection.

Monde, demi-monde, maisons closes : la comédie sociale chez Maupassant

Boucher, Marie-Violaine. January 1997 (has links)
Maupassant's writings suggest that the monde, demi-monde and brothels, usually conceived as entirely different universes, resemble each other. They are imperfect copies, which can be mistaken for one another. The characters moving in these worlds are essentially false, hypocritical and superficial beings, prisoners of a role which forces them to play a comedy in society. Some adopt to perfection the values and conventions attached to their role, to the extent of no longer differentiating the true from the false, and forgetting their identity. / As the distinction between appearances and reality disappears, the boundaries between the milieux become unclear. Do they exist? Have the boundaries arbitrarily been drawn to preserve social order? If Maupassant implicitly asks these questions, he does not provide an answer. His attitude towards social comedy is rather ambiguous. Though he makes fun of the latter, emphasizing its absurdity and ridicule, he does not condemn it. Spectator and actor of this vast comedy, Maupassant stays detached: of course life is only a game, but why not play it?

Sex work as work : labour regulation in the legal sex industry in Victoria

Murray, Kristen Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
Prostitution occupies a significant place in academic research. It has been analysed from a range of disciplines including sociology and anthropology, women’s studies, criminology and law, and medicine and health services. Much of the recent scholarship in Australia concerning prostitution has focussed on the relationship between sex work and sexually transmissable diseases, and on the decriminalisation of prostitution. Despite the considerable number of studies into prostitution, there has been only limited consideration in Australia of prostitution as a form of waged labour. Some feminist theorists, writing from an historical perspective, have examined the concepts of sex and work and the way in which these are reproduced within the practice of prostitution.
