This exploring study aims to make the relations between the study of instrumental rationality, substantive rationality and quality of working life. Instrumental rationality, a kind of rationality attributed to the behavior of organizations since its organ origin, which means an instrument in search of results and goals, for which the purposes are present through intermediary ways that can be materials or diverse resources in the search of the highest financial results, a profit according to their marketing relations. Substantive rationality, another type that is linked to human affairs, social, or values held by the human essence. Quality of Working Life is a way to evaluate the working conditions that promote greater satisfaction and fulfillment to the worker. This study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach and with descriptive, exploratory and interpretive nature, investigated the perception of a sample of 110 individuals who work in areas belonging to the Technical Board of an electricity distributor organization in Florianópolis - SC. The results expose that the greatest need for workers so they can meet their satisfaction and fulfillment at work are: professional recognition, fair wages and compatible with their needs of life, higher ethics and justice in the actions and decisions of managers and team work. The annoyances that have most jumbled the capacity of enjoying the benefits of personal and professional fulfillment at work are: great political interference in technical decisions and professional recognition, and also the lack of growth prospects and improvements in career has brought dissatisfaction with their work. Before the conducted relations, it is possible to infer the propositions that the dominance of instrumental rationality can impair the improvement of quality of working life and that the balance with the presence of elements of substantive rationality, such as autonomy, ethical judgments and emancipatory values, can improve the conditions and generate improvements in the workplace / Esta pesquisa vem averiguar uma questão nova na área de estudos da Administração.

Medeiros, José Washington de Morais 07 April 2011 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1202886 bytes, checksum: 574885a94ef874557643f6210b03f04d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-04-07 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This study has as object the technicist logic of the pedagogical acting, based on the communicative rationality. Considering this model of reason concerning the utopia of human emancipation, it is hooked on the theory of the Communicative Action (TCA) by Jürgen Habermas. It contextualizes the invasions to which the educative processes are subjected in the contemporaneity prometed by the inbrication between the systemic and the lived worlds. It aimed at understanding the technicist dynamics of the pedagogical acting under the domains of TCA, starting from the following thesis: the technicist pedagogy is a kind of manifestation of the instrumental rationality present in the world lived within school. Through the hermeneutic method, it went in search of the possibilities of emancipation, going from the rationalization and its three universal spheres: a) culture, through educative processes which found the reevaluation of moral and ethical values formerly established; b)society, through consensual norms that only become valid before intelligible argumentations sensitively inclined to redefinitions; c) personality, through a cognitive development beyond mentalism, passing by the evolution of a moral conscience that elaborates stages of intersubjective relations. As a result of the deadlock of education, it brings the possibility to think how much the communicative rationality has lost spaces for the instrumental rationality, consequently coming up several social pathologies. On account of this, it discusses that natural and public channels of the communicative spaces (language as a medium) are deteriorated by the vehicles placed by the systemic imperatives (money and power as craftsmen) of the Western capitalist society. It perceives that the effects by the colonizations of the instrumental reason in the cognitive, expressive and normative spheres interfere much in social formations, binding the rationalizations of the lived world. Thus, the circumstances brought by the extranatural domains of educations facilitated the coming of a set of impositions at school, since the regeneration of the philosophy based on the subject (hyperindividualism) until the instructive normalizations of the technified educations. Aiming at uncovering the genesis of the educational atrophies, it concludes that the communicative rationality can be understood as a new agora ; a fertile alternative to incite a linguistic overturn in the mediations of the subject, in the interactions with others, with the knowledge, with the images (religious and metaphysical) of the world. It emphasizes that the communicative rationality can subsidize educative processes beyond functional ideologies linearly induced by the tecnification of thinking. A reflexive reason that promotes a sort of educations that is open to the multiple voices of rationality. It ends highlighting that, to strengthen the lived world, the paradigm of the communicative rationality propitiates the progressive development of human competence which, under the idea of emancipator education, the utopia of which one is in search becomes a criterion for social evolution.

This paper is characterized by a descriptive study, as it sought to establish the relationship between the materialization of the studied phenomenon - by means of a theoretical framework consisting of the following theories: Fato Administrativo (GUERREIRO RAMOS, 1983), Substantive and Instrumental Rationality (GUERREIRO RAMOS, 1981) and Proceedings of Personnel Management proposed by Joel Dutra (2004). As the main research findings, time as an intrinsic element of the Fato Administrativo - suffers much interference from external factors, especially from the sponsors of the researched organization and also from their bureaucratic control tools; not directly relating to the processes of Personnel Management, though. Among these, it was noticed that there isn‟t a dialogue between the sponsors and the theory, due to incompatibilities regarding the structure and nature of each organization. Both movement and development have stood out. These are processes that are guided by elements of substantive rationality, literally speaking, including personal, emancipatory and solidarity values. Thus, it is stated that for future research a compatible model of Personnel Management should be built and explored (compatible with the nature of nonprofit organizations). Understanding, in depth, the processes separately aiming to understand each work is also advised. Trying to fully understand the ways of overcoming the lack of skilled workers to perform activities in similar organizations needs to be considered as well / A presente disserta??o teve por objetivo averiguar atrav?s do elemento estruturante do Fato Administrativo, a forma com que as racionalidades norteiam os processos de Gest?o de Pessoas da Associa??o Companhia TerrAmar, que atua no bairro de Felipe Camar?o no munic?pio de Natal/RN.

Investeringsprocessen i småföretag : En studie om investeringsbeslutfattande i restaurangbranschen

Marquez, Dayhana, Larsson, Malin January 2017 (has links)

Dahlgren, Carl, Lundkvist, Elias January 2023 (has links)
Data is now considered one of the world's most valuable resources. As the internet has become more established and expanded its uses, the collection of user information has increased. By using cookies, companies can analyze their customers' habits on the internet and thus provide personalized advertising and customized feeds. Previous studies show that internet users are concerned about their online privacy but do not take steps to protect it. The phenomenon is called the privacy paradox and there are reports that suggest that this phenomenon is not present among Swedish internet users. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the privacy paradox is present among Swedish internet users and whether the phenomenon can be explained by a lack of knowledge in the area, also known as bounded rationality. The study's data set was collected via an Internet-based questionnaire and analyzed in the study's theoretical model, a model based on the theoretical framework Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior (KAB). Univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistics were used to describe the data set and answer the research question. SmartPLS was used to construct and analyze the PLS-SEM models used in the multivariate analysis. The statistical programming language R was used for the univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed that privacy paradox could not be established in the study's data set. It was also determined that the data set showed a high level of knowledge about cookies which is contradicting bounded rationality.

Asymmetric Information in the Valuation Process : The way property appraisers compensate for the asymmetric information on the real estatemarket.

Sjöö, Tim, Ahlqvist, Linus January 2022 (has links)
The Swedish property market is a highly current and attractive market with a high demand. Therefore there is a high interest in valuation of properties, which is an important part of realestate sales, buying property or taking loans from the bank. How does a property appraiserwork on the commercial property market, which is known for its asymmetric informationwhere the parties have different amounts of information? The purpose of this study is to examine how a property appraiser on the commercial real estatemarket compensates for the asymmetric information which real estate packaging brings. Thisstudy will also look into whether there is any difference in the process if the valuation isperformed by a company which has a transaction department or if it ́s performed by acompany which does not have a transaction department. The purpose in this study is fulfilledthrough interviews with some of the more established commercial property appraisers. The study shows similarities in the process of valuing a commercial property between thedifferent companies, however, it also shows differences in the process. The differences mainlyshow between the companies with a transaction department and the companies that doesn ́thave this department. Appraisers in a company with a transaction department seems to relyto a wider extent on its own transaction department, when it comes to gather information, something that may lead to psychological restraints in the information gathering. Theappraisers in the companies without a transaction department, take more informal ways togather the information.

The dialectical nature of social networking / Mark Jacob Amiradakis

Amiradakis, Mark Jacob January 2015 (has links)
This study aims to provide a critical assessment of social networking sites along with the underlying form of rationality propelling such technological innovations. The hypothesis of this study is rooted in the firm conviction that while social networking sites can be regarded as impressive technological achievements, and while there are certainly an array of benefits that can be associated with them, they nevertheless can be perceived as a hegemonic force which surreptitiously undermines the autonomy and freedom of the modern individual. In order to corroborate and augment such an assertion, this study relies primarily on the critical works of Adorno and Horkheimer (1997); Bauman (2003; 2007 & 2013) and Foucault (1977) in order to both investigate and critically evaluate the everyday assumptions typically associated with a technologically enlightened society, techno-scientific rationality and the recent emergence of technological tools such as social networking services. Based upon the findings that have emerged throughout the course of this investigation, it becomes clear to see that there is indeed a dialectical tension inherent to the nature of the various social networking technologies as they currently operate within the 21st century. Such a discovery is primarily based upon the fact that while social networking technologies do inherently possess emancipatory potentialities for the modern individual, they have nevertheless failed to actualise such potentialities due to the following reasons: 1) Social networking technologies have managed to propagate and entrench a powerful sentiment of technological determinism within modern society along with a highly corrosive form of instrumentalized rationality to which all individuals are now required to acquiesce; 2) Such technologies are paradoxically abrogating the possibility of meaningful interpersonal contiguity due to the fact they have managed to commodify the technological culture associated with a digital form of interaction/communication along with the individual making use of such technologies; and 3) In their current format, social networking services are allowing for the objectification, manipulation and exploitation of the online subject to take place in order to pursue and promote an instrumentalized strategy of marketing surveillance and capital accumulation. / MA (Philosophy), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

The normativity of rationality : a defense

Levy, Yair January 2013 (has links)
Rationality is very widely regarded as a normative notion, which underwrites various everyday normative practices of evaluation, criticism, and advice. When some agent behaves irrationally, she is likely to be critically evaluated, and advised to change her ways. Such practices seem to presuppose that agents ought to behave as rationality requires. But some philosophers question this thought. They argue that at least some requirements of rationality cannot be ones that we ought to comply with. This thesis aims to dispel such sceptical doubts over the normativity of rationality; it defends the idea that the requirements of rationality are indeed normative, in the sense that if one is rationally required to F, one ought to F because rationality requires one to F. The normativity of three requirements of practical rationality in particular is the main target for defense in the following pages. They are: [ENKRASIA] Rationality requires of A that, if A believes she ought to F, then A intends to F. [MEANS-ENDS] Rationality requires of A that, if A intends to E, and believes that she will not E unless she intends to M, then A intends to M. [INTENTION CONSISTENCY] Rationality requires of A that, if A intends to F, and believes that she cannot both F and G, then A does not intend to G. After presenting some of the grounds for scepticism about the normativity of these three requirements in chapter 1, the thesis goes on in chapters 2 & 3 to critically examine several different accounts of why rationality is normative, concluding that they are all unsuccessful; a novel account is called for. An account of this kind is offered over the course of the two following chapters, 4 & 5. Each requirement is shown to be constituted by a certain kind of ought, while at the same time corresponding to a rule of correct reasoning. Chapter 6 is devoted to answering an objection to that account, according to which the rules of reasoning are given by permissions rather than requirements. Chapter 7 offers a digression into a related issue in action theory: it unfavorably explores the idea that reasoning is a factor that can be used to analyse not only rational action, but also intentional action more broadly; the chapter suggests that treating intentional action as irreducible is the more fruitful approach. Finally, chapter 8 summarizes the main conclusions of the thesis and comments on some remaining questions.

Human security assemblages : transformations and governmental rationalities in Canada and Japan

Hynek, Nikola January 2010 (has links)
The thesis examines Canadian and Japanese human security assemblages. It aims to delve below stereotypical imageries 'representing' these human security articulations. The concept of 'human security' is not a starting point, but a result of elements, processes, structures and mechanisms which need to be investigated in order to reveal insights about a given articulation of human security. Each human security assemblage is composed of messy discourses and practices which are loosely related and sometimes even disconnected. Academics have frequently avoided studying the messiness of political discourses and practices and their mutual dependencies or their lack thereof. By contrast, this thesis ascertains what has lain beneath Canadian and Japanese spatio-temporal articulation of human security and establishes the kinds of structural terrain which have enabled, shaped, or blocked the unfolding of certain versions of human security. The pivotal contention of the thesis is that Canadian and Japanese articulations of human security have been different because they have grown from completely different domestic economies of power governing the relationship between the state apparatus and the non-profit and voluntary sector. While the Canadian human security assemblage has been shaped by transformations in the country's advanced liberal model of government, the Japanese has been shaped by the continuities of Japan's bureaucratic authoritarianism. A novel approach is employed for the related process-tracing: a general series linking structural conditions with actual articulations of the human security projects, and their further development, including analysis of their unintended consequences.
