The use of reference process models to capture open source migration activities

Molefe, Onkgopotse 12 1900 (has links)
South Africa has shown an increased interest and awareness of Open Source Software (OSS) in the past decade. One of the reasons for this was the support from the Shuttleworth Foundation for Open Source initiatives. Migrating to OSS is a difficult and time consuming activity that should not be underestimated by the migration team. Careful planning and roll-out procedures should be in place before one commence on this journey. Process reference models are used in different fields to capture the generic process flow of activities. For the OSS domain, no process reference models could be found for migration purposes. Therefore, this study has as aim the suggestion of an initial set of process reference models for an organisational OSS migration. These process reference models were identified by capturing the process models for a case study that entailed the migration of the CSIR software systems and desktops from proprietary to OSS. From this set of process models, the migration processes were identified and refined to a set of suggested process reference models for organisational OSS migrations. This set of process reference models are useful to determine the processes necessary for organisations considering migrating to OSS. The study is divided into four research questions, where the first focusses on use and value of process reference models and the second on what is already known about OSS migration processes. The third deals with key processes within an organisational open source migration (OOSM) and the last with process reference models for an OOSM. For the first research question, the use and value of process reference models and the usefulness of utilising process reference models is discussed as well as using process models as a modelling tool to identify and capture processes. For the second research question, a summary is provided of what we know about OSS migration processes and a description about what the researcher and others have learnt about OSS, OSS migrations, process reference models, the process and its structure. For the third research question, the key processes within an OOSM is discussed as well as all the processes that took place during the OSS migration project from basic administrative processes to complex processes, from the beginning of the project until its completion. Lastly, for the fourth research question, process reference models that are essential for an OOSM and possible generic migration process models bound to reoccur are identified by the researcher and validated using a focus group discussion. / M.Tech. A technology reference model for client/server software development

Nienaber, R. C. (Rita Charlotte) 06 1900 (has links)
In today's highly competitive global economy, information resources representing enterprise-wide information are essential to the survival of an organization. The development of and increase in the use of personal computers and data communication networks are supporting or, in many cases, replacing the traditional computer mainstay of corporations. The client/server model incorporates mainframe programming with desktop applications on personal computers. The aim of the research is to compile a technology model for the development of client/server software. A comprehensive overview of the individual components of the client/server system is given. The different methodologies, tools and techniques that can be used are reviewed, as well as client/server-specific design issues. The research is intended to create a road map in the form of a Technology Reference Model for Client/Server Software Development. / Computing / M. Sc. (Information Systems)

The model approaches a series of characteristics, technical and humans, which if considered can increase the potential of awake the interests to the active use of these projects for the students and build conditions to the development of an active posture by the students, fundamental factor to the educational advances. Focused in the students, not in the technology in use, we propose this model as a guide, reference to be used in a critical way in relation with every educational context. This research was made from the qualitative category, trough the method of study of case, using as reference to the analysis the use of the website guanabara.info - website outside of the school context - by it users, heard through the internet, by the use of semi-opened interview, in a data taken of the primary type. We follow as theoretical references Paulo Freire?s work, considering his vision of education and the building of knowledge as a process which occurs between man, and Celest?n Freinet, in his pedagogy of humanized and critical insertion of the technologies in the school. At the end, we show the practical utilization of the model constructed using it for the diagnostics of an educational project in the on-line educational environmental moodle / Esta disserta??o foi realizada no intuito da elabora??o de um modelo a ser usado como refer?ncia na constru??o e diagn?stico de projetos educativos em ambiente on-line.

No. of bitstreams: 1 CaioDC.pdf: 2782026 bytes, checksum: ffc0e89b5e796daecc6152d3075b6918 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-01-24 / The so-called Dual Mode Adaptive Robust Control (DMARC) is proposed. The DMARC is a control strategy which interpolates the Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) and the Variable Structure Model Reference Adaptive Control (VS-MRAC). The main idea is to incorporate the transient performance advantages of the VS-MRAC controller with the smoothness control signal in steady-state of the MRAC controller. Two basic algorithms are developed for the DMARC controller. In the first algorithm the controller's adjustment is made, in real time, through the variation of a parameter in the adaptation law. In the second algorithm the control law is generated, using fuzzy logic with Takagi-Sugeno s model, to obtain a combination of the MRAC and VS-MRAC control laws. In both cases, the combined control structure is shown to be robust to the parametric uncertainties and external disturbances, with a fast transient performance, practically without oscillations, and a smoothness steady-state control signal / Neste trabalho ? apresentada uma proposta de um controlador, denominado Controlador em Modo Dual Adaptativo Robusto (DMARC), que estabelece uma liga??o entre um controlador adaptativo por modelo de refer?ncia (MRAC) e um controlador adaptativo por modelo de refer?ncia e estrutura vari?vel (VS-MRAC).

Gustavo Vaz Nascimento 20 September 2007 (has links)
Commande adaptative pour avion de transport tolérante aux erreurs de modèle et aux pannes / Adaptive control for a transport aircraft providing robustness to model uncertainties and system failures

Oudin, Simon 07 November 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with adapting flight control laws of a civil transport aircraft to various incertainties which can affect its behaviour. The adaptive flight control system is supposed to run in real time onboard the airplane so that its closed-loop performance is optimized with respect to the current conditions. These incertainties may be linked to unknown flight conditions (e.g. unknown airspeed and altitude), or unknown aerodynamics non-linearities or even unknown behaviour of the pilot in command. The adaptive schemes that are derived to answer these problems must be valid on the whole flight envelope with realistic disturbances but other additional contraints may exist depending on the context (e.g. loads limits, aeroelastic stability, etc.). To accommodate for large uncertainties on the system, adaptive methods are investigated. They usually combine an online estimator (also called an update law) with a structured flight control law. The synthesis of both elements may be simultaneous on 'direct' adaptive methods, e.g. on Model Reference Adaptive Control, using Lyapunov's stability theory. But it can also be decoupled on 'indirect' adaptive methods, giving a full spectrum of techniques for both elements (such as Least-Squares for estimating unknown physical parameters and the LFR framework for designing controllers). The choice of a specific method really depends on the application context and the related constraints.Three applications are the core of this report. They deal with adjusting guidance law to the pilot's unknown behaviour, controlling a longitudinal non-linearity, and providing manual longitudinal and lateral flight control laws which adapt to unknown flight conditions. Advanced linear and non-linear analysis techniques (based on µ-analysis or on optimization algorithms) are also applied to validated these sophisticated real-time adaptive systems. Results showed that indirect adaptive schemes were generally the most satisfactory. Their performance is similar to the one of direct schemes but as indirect methods provide physical parameter estimates, real-time monitoring and offline validation seem quite easier.

Návrh referenčního modelu vybraných procesů marketingové podpory a jeho zhodnocení / The reference model of marketing support processes and its evaluation

Vydra, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
Corporate expenses for IT support of marketing are surging every year, and therefore the processes of marketing support, which contain all the technical aspects of marketing campaign execution and measurement, are attracting more attention than before. The diploma thesis introduces a basic overview of direct marketing and marketing support operations in corporations and presents a reference model to help optimize the marketing support processes. The thesis contains a research of theoretical fundamentals of process modelling and reference model building, a basic overview of corporate direct marketing, an analysis of direct marketing processes and the most relevant processes of marketing support. The reference model, which is based on the outputs from both theoretical parts, includes a detailed description of marketing support processes and outlines the process boundaries in the form of SLA. The model is then tested on two case studies, which emphasize the practical opportunities as well as the major benefits of using the model.
