Exposer le patrimoine culturel d'origine religieuse en Espagne : de la muséologie à la muséographie / Exposing the religious heritage in Spain : from museology to museography

Cerezales, Nathalie 09 December 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the exhibition of catholic heritage in contemporary Spain. Its goal is to study and delineate the different ways in which this patrimony is exposed – public museum, private collections, religious art museums, guilds museums, temporary exhibition, etc. – and their history. Artifacts of catholic origin seem to be, in countries of Latin tradition, at the root of the conception of cultural heritage. Yet, in Spain, their integration into the national culturalheritage has not been entirely smooth. Therefore this thesis aims to chart the two parallel trajectories of patrimonialization and museumization and to study how they both take form and contribute to the definition of religious artifacts as part of the national cultural heritage. This thesis also tracks the conditions of creation of the institutions by their stakeholders: public authorities, clergy, as well as religious and secular associations. Finally, this thesis explores how cultural, evangelization and touristic policies intertwine in a country where religious celebrations still rhythm daily life. This study is based on three chronological periods to trace the main changes of these projects: the first period characterized by the confrontation between the clergy and the intellectual and political classes; the period between 1939 and 1970 when the Church and Franco’s regime allied; finally the period between 1970 and 2007 during which there is a joint policy to emphasize the cultural and touristic value of the religious heritage.

Naud, Marie-Hélène 08 1900 (has links)
The present master’s paper analyses, from iconographic and formal points of view, the interior decoration of the church Saint-Romuald of Farnham, painted by Ozias Leduc between 1905 and 1912. This program, ordered by the parish priest Joseph-Magloire Laflamme, allows a transition between two important periods in Leduc’s career: the decoration of the church of Saint-Hilaire (1896-1900) and his great symbolic landscapes (1913-1921). During the fulfilment of this commissioned work, a gradual change occurs in the thought and in the style of the painter which is studied efficaciously in regards to the three periods of his artistic production at Saint-Romuald: 1905-1907, 1909-1910 and 1911-1912. That chronology appears in the correspondence concerning the program’s realization. It is also illustrated by the development, at Saint-Romuald, of the artist’s ideology and of his technique, about which we will briefly discuss in the present master. Even though Leduc is not the sole responsible of the decor, he refers, more than once, to his historical context and he unifies the entire decoration so that the paintings, the architecture of the church, the color of the walls, the frames, the decorative motifs and the symbols create a whole. The study of each work of art, within these parameters, will allow identifying the theme, namely the institution of the Catholic religion, and the sub-theme, the education. This iconographic program as well as several other links existing between those paintings serve as a vehicle for Leduc’s cherished ideals, which he will continue to convey in his subsequent other religious decorations. Moreover, in order to begin to follow the development of the artist’s style, it is essential to notify the paintings’ state of preservation. Several of them were partially or completely painted over in 1952. Despite these repaints, as we will briefly establish, the style of Leduc, influenced by symbolism, is still very present. The iconographic and stylistic analysis will allow to place the decoration in the artist’s complete works. L'ombre de Dieu : représenter la Création du monde en France (1610-1789) / The Shadow of God : representing the Creation of the World in France (1610 – 1789)

Roche, Lucile 07 April 2018 (has links)
“In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth”. Opening of the first chapter of the Genesis, the most well-known incipit of all time sums up both the imagery and the main idea of the Creation of the World that has existed in the west for thousands of years. However, this biblical conception of Creation starts to weaken in the beginning of the XVIIth century and to expand to embrace scientific views when secular ideas of evolution or the laws of mechanics shook the biblical tradition of the six-Day Creation narrative. The once unique idea of a World Creation becomes a more complex concept at the crossroads between sacred and profaneand authorized innovative pictures representing, for example, God blowing the Cartesian cosmogenic whirlpools or giving thrust to the terrestrial mechanism inspired by Voltaire. When the groundbreaking theories on the Creation were published, it was necessary to focus on the artistic reinterpretations of the myth. Based on a great diversity of images – biblical, scientific, alchemical – we’ll try to analyze how biblical iconography stands still at the time of the global secularization of the world in which, as a paradoxical authority or an unconscious standard, the image of the Creator holds up the complex relationship between Man and his Mythology.

These fields encircle painting, sculpture and, in addition, furniture and special pieces designed for the indoor spaces. More specifically, this essay also builts and reports its reflections based on the contemporary christian artwork and architectural spaces, produced and projected by artist and vernacular architect Claudio Pastro. The analysis in this essay approaches Pastro's biography through his unique process of working and criating, as a painter, pictorial artist, architect and sacred art expert. The second chapter explores Pastro's conceptions between sacred art and religious art, which are indeed different: each conception is clearly refeared, explained, discussed, compared to the other ones, and looked over through the eyes of Mircea Eliade's and Rudolf Otto's fenomenology. Still in the field of the Teology of the Art, the thinking of Romano Guardini about the sacred and the religious is also shown. In the third chapter we have a timeline brief of the history of art and sacred architecture, the bases of Pastro's work; then, a comparative study between his conception about the modern project related to the architecture and the vanguard arts. We also comment some brazilian architects projects, wich he admire and influenced him. Furthermore we comment the II Council of the Vatican and its propositions of liturgical renewal, wich led to the renew of sacred architeture and art, home of Pastro's realm of inspiration and concepts. We end with the analysis and critical reviewing of nine of his chapels and churches already built. In the conclusion, we comment the repercussion of Claudio Pastro's works, and the importance of his figure within the brazilian artistic and architectural panorama, as well as the concerns and limits of his concepts. Alongside with these questions, we leave to open minds some other further questions to be treated, about the relationships between art and religion, and art and the sacred.
