Krotoszynski, Andrea Christine Bella 19 March 2013 (has links)
This dissertation is a reflection on a set of artistic processes conducted between 1999 and 2010. Such processes share as a common base the recording of images and sounds and its manipulation under the focus of movement. The explored potentialities update through the interaction between body and screen, thus promoting the inscription of movement, a process which I have named Emerging Choreography in 2D. The audiovisual manipulation performed in the discussed processes, involves cut & paste procedures, which led me to look for methodological similarities within montage/editing practices and audiovisual remix. However, it was in contact with the ideas of William Burroughs, more specifically, his use of the Cut-Up Method, that I have found a closer affinity, not only with his production mode, but, mutatis mutandis, also, with his artistic motivations and expectations.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria Teresa Tavares Costa.pdf: 8371940 bytes, checksum: c5b7d46b730f1b5eb97dc72ae4084cc0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-07-30 / Ctrl+C Authorship on the Net studies the new formats of creation that emerged from the Internet. By aiming beyond the discussions around a legal point of view, this work focusses on asthetic and critical parameters of online art experiences, which point towards the redefinition of the concept of authorship in the realm of digital media e the very context of contemporary culture. In order to cruise this itinerary, the text starts from an understanding of the technical particularities of the network, related to the symbolic exchanges established in its environment. In a first phase, the research investigates the concept of Network Culture through the social-technical relations which are its components. On the discussion proposed by Alexander Galloway concerning the protocols that rule the communication flux on the Internet, the concepts of code and interface are articulated, aiming to define a language digital objects. The theories of Lev Manovich, Margot Lovejoy, Florian Cramer and Jay David Bolter & Richard Grusin are utilized in order to further develop these discussions. After defining the specifities of the Network Culture, it became possible, in a second instance, to analyze de development of what Lawrence Lessig denominates as Remix Culture, in other words, a social configuration marked by semiotic appropriation and recontextualization typical of those new digital technologies. About Lessig s concept are discussed the aesthetic parameters of the remix cultures on the terrain of network culture through Eduardo Nava s analysis in parallel with the concepts of modularity and remixability by Lev Manovich, digital aura in Michael Betancourt and remix as consumption from Nicolas Bourriard. From the methodological perspective, a mapping and analysis of Internet projects that discuss the concepts above referred and contribute for the reconfiguration of the contemporary notion of authorship is accomplished. Among them: AfterSherrieLevine.com/AfterWalkerEvans.com , by Michael Mandiberg, 2001, and Society of the Spectacle (A Digital Remix) by Mark Amerika, Trace Reddell and Rick Silva, 2004. Such an empirical corpus was split into two categories proposed by Eduardo Navas: Selective and Reflexive Remix. The typologies of agency suggested by these works bring up questions such as the production and consumption relations, interactivity, property, control and micropolitics, as well as pointing towards the definition of both to the very own aesthetics and politics of the intercrossing between network culture and remix culture / Ctrl+C - autoria na rede estuda os novos formatos de criação que emergiram na Internet.

A estética do mashup / The mashup aesthetics

Souza, Randolph Aparecido de 24 March 2009 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Randolph Aparecido de Souza.pdf: 2953752 bytes, checksum: 949dcc91b6de02061dbf28192a5d8e57 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-03-24 / This research discusses the mashup practice, particularly the one of web applications, while own aesthetics, that translates a contemporary sensibility, reflex of the remix culture of which emerges. Copy, cut or paste are now intrinsic actions to the daily of the cyberspace, where the recombination of information is evidenced as usual practice. In this context, how to identify and relate the mashup aesthetics? Such scenery incites the further study concerning mashups, in search to trace a descending and contemporary overview by means of investigation and identification of its origin, structure and practical in the digital medium. To debate these issues was accomplished a historical redemption, in order to present the concepts and artistic movements precursors relative to its essence. The mashup comprehension advances in scope of the remix sphere. The issues referring to collaboration, interaction and authorship, as well as the conceptualization of the practical, based on the malleability of the binary code and the transposition between a medium to another one; will be sustained from the studies of Lev Manovich and Eduardo Navas. Thus, the analysis of the structure and functioning of mashups applications in the digital medium, demarcated by means of the considerations from Duane Merrill, consists in better assimilation to these reflections, since specifies the technological characteristics that define them. In intention to reorganize the several mashups models found in the net, it makes mapping inspired on Merrill s classification, however, propose own categories; supported in case studies made through the analysis of web sites that use the technique. With effect, it verifies that the mashup process former, based on combination of one or more sources for formation of something new, is the same adopted in different periods, in other words, is not entirely innovative; varies only the form of employment applied, in the relationship of the predecessors concepts to the technology and emerging medias. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of the proposed classification for mashups mapping in the revelation of organic categories, that allow thus to illustrate the fluid movements of associations and inter-relationships characteristic of its organization, in an accurate portrait of the universe of unlimited possibilities of imbrication in which they inhabit / Esta pesquisa discute a prática mashup, particularmente a de aplicativos web, enquanto estética própria, que traduz uma sensibilidade contemporânea, reflexo da cultura remix da qual emerge.

Rodriguez-Caouette, Meganne 12 1900 (has links)
This thesis proposes to study the narrative process at work in the television series Penny Dreadful. It arises from the observation that most studies and research about this television object associate it with the concept of adaptation. The objective of this research is to question this connection between what happens in the television series Penny Dreadful and the concept of adaptation. The adaptation does not reflect all the subtleties of the narrative and television processes of this series. These are closer to the concepts of transfiction, Frankenfiction and remix which are on the margin of adaptation. The reflections around these allow to open a dialogue with the notions of repetition, variation, and seriality proper to the adaptation and the television studies. It will be question of the limits and boundaries of these concepts in the case of television series and their creative possibilities, which fans appropriate to make their works.

BREED

Randestad, Stina January 2016 (has links)
Breed has a concept and a main goal, to be unpredictable and visually impressive. The idea that it was built on was to try to create a collection with the method of breeding and the rules of genetics. At first, twelve individuals were created. They were all given characteristics – “genes”, handed out in a random way, decided by the toss of a dice. The individuals bred and were blended into a second generation, who thereafter procreated into a third. This third generation of eight characters, four females and four males, carry genes and features from their ancestors. They have been twisted, mutated and mixed, just like in nature. It is voluminous line-up with clashes between references, colours and styles. The challenge has been to let chance take decisions and to do something that was unexpected and was going to give an unpredictable result. Breed has not been done for a commercial destination but would be suitable for styling artists, editorials for fashion magazines, costumes in music videos or artistic films. The method is supposed to make people interested, the result is supposed to give the onlooker a smaller chock, a tingling sensation and the impression of a new subculture, a modern day tribe or a new breed. Or simply “What crazy person made this?”

Nygren, Gustaf January 2014 (has links)
This is an art-remix project that focuses on a dream about art and music remixed and made within a context of nonviolence. The goal is to create temporary (and in the long term hopefully stabile) spaces of peace. It will be done within places where change needs to come, where it needs to be heard/seen/experienced. Weapon exports from Sweden are increasing even though there is research showing that nonviolent resistance in conflict is more effective. In this essay I discuss nonviolence and how I can implement that in my work to find a meaningful work for both me and my neighbours. The name of the project is Civil Oljudnad (= Civil Noise of Disobedience). / Civil Oljudnad

Resolution

Robinson, Jason 27 April 2011 (has links)
This paper is an exploration of the concepts and motivations behind the video installation and performance that made up my MFA Thesis Exhibition. My primary interest as a filmmaker is in the “invisible art” of editing. In my practice I employ iconic imagery such as old home movies and classic Hollywood films, as my source material. This “found footage” is deconstructed, drastically altered, and reassembled into a new movie that tells my story while still maintaining the memory of the original images. My process and philosophy concerning the salvage and repurposing of video is analyzed and discussed. I also examine my experience in translating video editing into a live improvisational performance.

Szafir, Milena 22 October 2010 (has links)
This research analyzes the movie Elite Squad as a lead discussion about its reverberation in some traditional media and mainly the Internet. Our main goal is to demonstrate a beyond movie analysis, by an audiovisual and written form as a new metalanguage methodological system where cultural codes researched, broken down for consideration of constituent parts and then reappropriate creating an interpretative representation in which records and notes are as the bottommost layer of significant value are reorganized from relations between external and inner elements of this movie, therefore we can realize them as networked components. Hence, we understand the academic research practice as an audiovisual common practice: the remix (or mash up). We research authors, journals, images and we analyze this on line and off line data to remix them generating a new value, the thesis. Thus, we ask ourselves: does the networked Audiovisual Rhetoric implicate a consumption between surveillance and spectacle or it is necessarily circumstance to the implied true discourse (Foucault\'s \"Discourse on Language\", 1970) in an aesthetic reality? From a critical and creative perspective weve cleared noticed the struggle with the network database, where the anxiety for a possible organized creation methodology of this online audiovisual remix practice for academic means, presents a tool-project YouToRemix-YouTubeMix (Appendix I/IV) which has been designed together with this research for masters degree for future development. Consequently we deliver with this dissertation four appendixes and one attachment regarding the complimentary material to the research here presented.

This thesis addresses the update of the collaborative audiovisual in hitRECord, an open and collaborative production company. The collaborative audiovisual is understood here from the perspective of Bergson (2005) and Deleuze (2004) as a mix of virtual and current. It is an updated in the media and out of it and it has possibilities of numerous new updates. In the context of technoculture, the collaborative audiovisual is thought of as a construct or ethicidade (KILPP, 2010) constructed technically, aesthetically and ethically. Through the Metodologia das Molduras this work turns to the dissection of interfaces (technical images) of hitRECord’s website to find the main molduras, ethicidades and imaginaries. As a last step, we return to the tensest images, the most contradictory meanings in the molduras and ethicidades, elaborating a constellation of dialectical images (BENJAMIN, 2006). To help us better understand the way of production of hitRECord, that is based on remix, we searched in Lev Manovich (2013) and his concept of deep remixability for the main theoretical contribution.
