GORDO, João Maurício Lucas 05 August 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-07-29T15:13:45Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Joao Mauricio Lucas Gordo.pdf: 989990 bytes, checksum: d42049f86155b876ca6f5dcc3bfbe6f3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-05 / This study aimed to diagnose the situation and use of artificial insemination (AI) and fixed-time artificial insemination in Goiás State, Brazil. A literature review was carried out and economic costs related to herd conception in natural mating systems, AI and TAI were calculated. Subsequently, an approach to cattle farmer´s profile, farm characterization and speech analysis was fulfilled in order to better understand biodemographic characteristics and to obtain cattle breeder´s discourse concerning AI technology. Using semi-structured questionnaires 71 interviews were accomplished to dairy and beef cattle farmers from different municipalities of Goiás State during AI training courses in 2010 and 2011. The interviews pointed out that 92% were male farmers and 29.6% had 31 to 41 years old. Schooling stage varied and 34% declared to have finished the last grade, 15.5% had primary grade complete and 14% had yet not finished primary education. 46.5% had between 9 and 20 years of cattle production experience, 25.5% more than 20 years and 28% had up to 8 years of experience. 53.5% already used AI or TAI before the training courses. Considering farmers that previously used any biotechnique, exclusive use of AI is more frequent (68,5%)than the association of both biotechniques (18.5%), and more frequent than the exclusive use of TAI (13%). 46.5% raised between 31 and 90 heifers and cows and 27% raised up to 30. Speech analysis revealed that personal motivation is a major topic involving the IA adoption process, which is related to the benefits of the biotechnique and the phenotype of the animals rather than economic factors. Prerequisites necessary for adoption is the second factor, mainly related to labor force, infrastructure and cattle handling, followed by social motivation topics, mainly associated to institutes and people related to IA and the everyday life of cattle farmers. Note: Thesis in four chapters with summary and abstract.

Prise en compte de la complexité géométrique des modèles structuraux dans des méthodes de maillage fondées sur le diagramme de Voronoï / Accounting for the geometrical complexity of geological structural models in Voronoi-based meshing methods

Pellerin, Jeanne 20 March 2014 (has links)
Des prismes et pyramides sont utilisés pour remplir les zones très fines du modèle, tandis que le reste du modèle est rempli avec des tétraèdres / Depending on the specific method used to build a 3D structural model, and on the exact purpose of this model, its mesh must be adapted so that it enforces criteria on element types, maximum number of elements, and mesh quality. Meshing methods developed for applications others than geomodeling forbid any modification of the input model, that may be desirable in geomodeling to better control the number of elements in the final mesh and their quality. The objective of this thesis is to develop meshing methods that fulfill this requirement to better manage the geometrical complexity of B-Rep geological structural models. An analysis of the sources of geometrical complexity in those models is first proposed. The introduced measures are a first step toward the definition of tools allowing objective comparisons of structural models and permit to characterize the model zones that are more complicated to mesh. We then introduce two original meshing methods based on Voronoi diagrams: the first for surface remeshing, the second for hybrid gridding. The key ideas of these methods are identical: (1) the use of a centroidal Voronoi optimization to have a globally controlled number of elements of good quality, and (2) combinatorial considerations to locally build the final mesh while sometimes modifying the initial model. The surface remeshing method is automatic and permits to simplify a model at a given resolution. The gridding method generates a hybrid volumetric mesh. Prisms and pyramids fill the very thin layers of the model while the remaining regions are filled with tetrahedra

Ogalde Arenas, Pilar January 2018 (has links)
The cardinal aim of this following investigation, is to create a built-in proposal of paperwork, for the management of Solid House Wastes (SHW) for the Macul county. It is based on the development of a strategy focused on sustainability of this kind of waste in an average county of the metropolitan area of Santiago. Therefore, some built-in proposals are defined showing a zone of hierarchy management of the mentioned wastes, using an urban, environmental, cultural and ruled institutions criteria. In this last point, there was special attention to the law 20.920/2016. Law of frame work for the management of wastes, the due responsibility of the producer and encourage of recycling. It is believed that, the first effort for the management of solid house wastes, must be focused, necessarily, on the cultural environment and in the creation of a concept of waste, based in its inner value, leaving the concepts of “disposable” and “useless” behind, to be transformed into a resource, which must be legitimated by the people. Finally, there are recommendations and an action plan to validate the proposal.

Tsernova, Inga January 2020 (has links)
How can we live and work with craft as people in an age of global climate crisis? What must we change in order to work empathically and in harmony with our surrounding world? While not in need to actively ensure our survival, it is easy for us to forget to stay humble to our own needs, thus taking our lives and our surroundings for granted. We forget our bodies and we forget the bodies of others, animals and objects alike. We forget that we need each other in order to become. This text is a complementary exploration in how awareness of the soul, body and Spirit may help bring back a balance that we've lost in town based cultures of the west. I am looking for balance as I twist fibre into thread and into rope and as I suspend rock- and human bodies into temporary sculptures. I look for inspiration in phenomenologist thought, alchemy, shamanism and daoism, as well as in the active making of craft and art. My work centers around telling stories, crafting and material exploration as well as bodily awareness and performance. In the work, body and material are synonymous concepts drifting in and out of each other, enabling and shaping each other, becoming together. I am looking to meet my surroundings not always on my own terms, but by changing, adapting and compromising myself. This helps bring an awareness that unites me with the bodies around me, placing me not above but amidst constant becomings.

Alternativní kultura v České republice po roce 1989 / Alternative Culture in the Czech Republic after 1989

Chorvátovičová, Iva January 2011 (has links)
This thesis describes the phenomenon of alternative culture in public policy. The first part seeks to define what alternative culture means and builds on the research mainly from sociology and cultural studies. Very useful are then specific theory of social deviance, the theory of subcultures and postsubcultures. At the same time, the paper looks into the past, before 1989, when the alternative culture phenomenon was clearly defined, standing outside the mainstream culture and the alternative culture was illegal. Through the analysis of some events and political cases from the recent past, there could be seen both differences between alternative culture and an attitude to it before 1989, but also some important parallels with the current situation of alternative culture. Alternative culture is later specified by current alternative underground subcultures: freetekno - DIY, squatting and street art. In the case of these three controversial subcultures, the paper deals with an attitude of public policy to these subcultures through the extremism policy. The next part the paper deals with the contemporary cultural politics in the country. Briefly, it describes and outlines the current situation and possible areas for innovation in the context of alternative culture. In the last phase this thesis deals...

Electronic waste governance: sustainable solutions to a global dilemma

Khan, Sabaa A. 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis addresses the forms, characteristics and challenges of electronic waste governance. The author explores the socio-economic and environmental impacts of a diverse range of instruments that have been developed to mitigate the human health and environmental risks presented by end-of-life electronic equipment, namely: multilateral treaties restricting e-waste trade flows into developing countries, regional, national and provincial legislations imposing mandatory recycling systems for e-waste, as well as other public and private initiatives based on the principle of extended producer responsibility (EPR). The objective of this study is to understand how stakeholders implicated in the electronic equipment sector can model the systems of production, use, and discard of electronics, so that the latter may continue to raise living standards and propel human development while simultaneously respecting the international principle of global equity, the natural environment and the quality of life of future generations.

České předsednictví očima členské a nečlenské země: sémiotická analýza českých a švýcarských tištěných médií v období českého předsednictví / Czech EU Presidency seen through the eyes of the member and non-member country: Semioticanalysis of the czech and swiss printed media in the period of the Czech EU Presideney

Lišková, Radka January 2011 (has links)
The master thesis "Czech presidency through the eyes of the member and non- member country" considers with the confrontation of articles from the time period of the EU-Czech Presidency which were published in the Czech newspaper Hospodarske noviny a in the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung. The work concerns with that point how both newspapers constructed the reality of the Czech Republic during its EU-Presidency. The analysis will proceed through the framing method and semiotic analysis. From the framing analysis will result the quantitative data and in the semiotic analysis is included the critical discoursive analysis. The CDA will be discussed in the thesis. Media shows to the audience the secondary reality and they have impact to that what the people think about and what attitude they contain to which event. At this process participates the language. In the master thesis we would like to prove that the Swiss media Show another reality than the Czech one.

Design and analysis of sugarcane breeding experiments: a case study / Delineamento e análise de experimentos de melhoramento com cana de açúcar: um estudo de caso

Santos, Alessandra dos 26 May 2017 (has links)
One purpose of breeding programs is the selection of the better test lines. The accuracy of selection can be improved by using optimal design and using models that fit the data well. Finding this is not easy, especially in large experiments which assess more than one hundred lines without the possibility of replication due to the limited material, area and high costs. Thus, the large number of parameters in the complex variance structure that needs to be fitted relies on the limited number of replicated check varieties. The main objectives of this thesis were to model 21 trials of sugarcane provided by \"Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira\" (CTC - Brazilian company of sugarcane) and to evaluate the design employed, which uses a large number of unreplicated test lines (new varieties) and systematic replicated check (commercial) lines. The mixed linear model was used to identify the three major components of spatial variation in the plot errors and the competition effects at the genetic and residual levels. The test lines were assumed as random effects and check lines as fixed, because they came from different processes. The single and joint analyses were developed because the trials could be grouped into two types: (i) one longitudinal data set (two cuts) and (ii) five regional groups of experiment (each group was a region which had three sites). In a study of alternative designs, a fixed size trial was assumed to evaluate the efficiency of the type of unreplicated design employed in these 21 trials comparing to spatially optimized unreplicated and p-rep designs with checks and a spatially optimized p-rep design. To investigate models and design there were four simulation studies to assess mainly the i) fitted model, under conditions of competition effects at the genetic level, ii) accuracy of estimation in the separate versus joint analysis; iii) relation between the sugarcane lodging and the negative residual correlation, and iv) design efficiency. To conclude, the main information obtained from the simulation studies was: the convergence number of the algorithm model analyzed; the variance parameter estimates; the correlations between the direct genetic EBLUPs and the true direct genetic effects; the assertiveness of selection or the average similarity, where similarity was measured as the percentage of the 30 test lines with the highest direct genetic EBLUPs that are in the true 30 best test lines (generated); and the heritability estimates or the genetic gain.
