Jezdecký areál ve Žďáře nad Sázavou / Riding Grounds in Žďár nad Sázavou

Jaitnerová, Vendula January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the project of the horse-riding grounds situated near the town of Žďár nad Sázavou. The complex of buildings consists of two riding halls, a groundskeeper’s flat, stables with a zone for riders and outside stable-boxes for horses. The buildings are laid out in a way to create a closed farmyard. There is a built-in unit located in the larger hall together with accommodation and restaurant with a great view to the riding hall. The horse-riding grounds are used for equitation In the first place. The two outside sandy riding arenas and the two indoor halls give an ideal opportunity for regular horse training as well as riders training. The halls would be also useful for holding the riding works all year round. It is possible to stable 19 horses in the indoor stable and 8 more in the outside stable-boxes in the farmyard. This diploma thesis deals with the project of horse-riding hall with a built-in unit, it also deals with a project for the groundskeeper’s flat and outside stable-boxes for horses. In the framework of the diploma thesis two specialties were elaborated – the project for heating in the built-in unit and the groundskeeper’s flat as well as the project for roofing the riding hall with the glue laminated timber girder. There are seminar paper and architectonic sketches included in the diploma thesis.

Examining the need for parental satisfaction with the MSU Extension Equine Assisted Therapy Program

Kiker, Ashlyn Ann 10 December 2021 (has links)
Animal assisted interventions are becoming more prevalent in our society. Animal interventions have become a popular therapy technique that exist to aid a variety of disabilities. Equine therapeutic riding has become one of the most popular forms of animal assisted therapy for both children and adults. While research shows the importance and benefits of animal assisted therapy for children, there is a lack of research concerning parental satisfaction within therapeutic riding programs. This study tested a newly developed instrument for measuring parental satisfaction for therapeutic riding programs. The Parent/Caregiver Evaluation Tool (Kerr, 2021) was administered to parents/caregivers whose children participated at the North Dakota State University Bison Strides Riding Program to determine the instrument’s reliability. Secondly, the instrument was administered the parents/caregivers of the MSU Equine Assisted Therapeutic Riding Program. It was found that parents/caregivers were satisfied with the program, but there were some recommendations given.

NVH benchmarking during vehicle development using sound quality metrics

Von Gossler, J. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng (Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering))--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / Noise, Vibrations and Harshness (NVH) characteristics are becoming ever more significant in today’s vehicle manufacturing industry. Similar to good vibration and harshness characteristics, the perception of a vehicle’s quality is enhanced by a well sounding vehicle interior. This study’s main aim was to develop objective equations to directly optimise interior sound quality of light commercial vehicles ( ½ ton LCVs) on the South African market. The effects the noise of the engine, the wind and road/tyre interaction during steady-state conditions have on the interior sound quality of eleven comparable vehicles was investigated with the aid of a binaural head. Steady-state condition in this content refers to the fact that vehicles were tested at constant speeds, no acceleration involved. A strong emphasis was laid on the influence road noise has on the interior sound quality of LCVs. Other objectives for the thesis were, to provide a method to benchmark the interior SQ of LCVs and to develop target values for objective metrics for these vehicles. Establishing a comprehensive literature survey formed another objective of this study. It seeks to provide a summary of the modern SQ analysis procedure and the findings of a number of studies. The survey also presents an opportunity to compare this thesis’s results with previous studies. A last objective was to develop a list of possible hardware modifications that would improve the vehicle interior sound quality, influenced by different noise sources. A strong correlation between vehicle and engine speed and Zwicker loudness as well as Aure sharpness was found, for all test conditions. The road surface roughness was observed to also have a strong influence on the objective metrics of vehicle interior SQ. Loudness was found to be around 25% higher and sharpness around 5.6% lower in vehicles driving on rough tar roads than on smooth roads. Good correlations between a newly developed metric (the SPF), an equation in Zwicker loudness and Aure sharpness, and subjective ratings was obtained for a number of test conditions. Four objective equations, as well as target values for loudness and sharpness have been developed to objectively optimise the sound quality of LCVs. Benchmarking interior sound quality utilising the developed equations, will ensure continuous improvements in the SQ sector for future LCVs.

The Cooperative Challenge : Farmer Cooperation and the Politics of Agricultural Modernisation in 21st Century Uganda

Flygare, Sara January 2006 (has links)

The main purpose of this dissertation is to study whether the official rhetoric on the role that cooperatives could play in the quest for agricultural modernisation in Uganda have any resemblance with how farmers view the benefits and problem with cooperation. This question was motivated by the political initiative in the early 21st century to revive the cooperative movement in Uganda, a movement burdened with a history of political intervention and difficulties to adapt to a de-regulated agricultural market system. In the thesis, the move to revive the cooperative movement is linked to another more encompassing political initiative, that of the modernisation and commercialisation of small-scale agriculture.

The book consists of two empirical studies, where interviews and text analysis have been important research methods. By first analysing the rhetoric emanating from political institutions and donor agencies, the conclusion is drawn that cooperatives are seen primarily as an institutional device which, it is hoped, will fill spaces that have been abandoned by the state and not filled with private sector initiatives.

A focused case study of a dairy cooperative and a number of its members in Uganda shows that farmers’ expectations of the cooperative to some extent converge with those revealed in the first study: for example they expected the cooperative to provide a stable outlet for their production of milk. The interviews and quantitative analysis indicate that farmers’ preferences for both fast cash and a stable income can create incentives for members to free-ride on the collective efforts of their fellow members. This can be cumbersome in a competitive marketing situation where other buyers compete with the cooperative for the members’ produce. The cooperative can find it difficult to secure a necessary level of member commitment if members do not share a common code of conduct.

Paving the way for terrestrial laser scanning assessment of road quality

Chin, Abby 08 May 2012 (has links)
With the growing trend in use of 3D laser scanning technology for data collection, it is important to study the various potential applications of this revolutionary technology. One such application is the measurement of road roughness at both large and small scales. At larger extents, terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is compared to several current techniques to measure road profiles including digital levels, inclinometers, and inertial profilers. An overall indicator of roughness (e.g. International Roughness Index, IRI) can be obtained from these road profiles and is used by state DOTs to determine the pavement quality. Since TLS is able to collect a large, dense set of data relatively quickly, this technology could provide states with an additional tool to both measure pavement roughness and collect data for the entire roadway. TLS has the added benefit of being able to generate multiple profiles across the roadway efficiently. At a fine scale, micron resolution 3D laser scanners can be utilized to determine the influence of asphalt mix designs on the roughness of the pavement. Of particular interest is the selection of predominant aggregate size within the mix. Results showed that TLS can determine pavement profiles and comparable IRI results to those from current methods. The elevation values collected within the profile were accurate within expected ranges. However, cross correlations, which take into account the location of the roughness, were poor, indicating that TLS is not an effective method to determine a reference profile. TLS was used to determine the cross slopes across the roadway, something that cannot be done with data from an inclinometer or inertial profiler. / Graduation date: 2012 / Zipped file contains 4 file types. Excel files (.xlsx and .xls) can be opened using Microsoft Excel. OBJ files (.obj) are geometry definition file formats intended to be imported into a software program to manipulate 3D laser scans and can also be opened using Notepad++ or another powerful text editor. Notepad++ is freely available for download on the Web. PVP files (.pvp) are project files that contain project settings and profile data and can be opened with ProVAL, a freely available engineering software application used to view and analyze roadway profiles. ERD files (.ERD) are standard file formats used for storing numbers in tabular form and can be opened with Notepad++ or another powerful text editor. These files contain roadway profiles and are designed to be imported into ProVAL.
