Effektivisering av verksamheter : en studie av fenomenet Lean IT / Streamlining operations : a study of the phenomenon of Lean IT

Boquist, Andreas, Olofsson, Jenny January 2011 (has links)
Program: Dataekonomutbildningen

Presidential Views of Leadership in Seventh-day Adventist Higher Education

Combie, Christopher C. 03 March 2014 (has links)
This qualitative research explored the perceptions of presidential leadership in Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) higher education in North America. The perceptions included the identification of leadership competencies and leadership styles that promote the mission of the SDA church in higher education. This research also identified the personal and professional experiences of SDA college and university presidents that contributed to their successful accession to the presidency. The presidents came from the twelve non-medical SDA colleges and universities in the continental United States and Canada. The three themes that emerged relevant to the perceptions of presidential leadership were (1) succession planning, (2) increased professionalization of the presidency, and (3) increased presidential tenure. One theme emerged relevant to the personal experiences that contributed to the successful accession to the presidency and was classified as significant impact of spousal and familial support on career trajectory. One theme also emerged relevant to the professional experiences that contributed to the successful accession to the presidency and was classified as progressively more challenging job experiences. Implications for practice suggest that SDA institutions, their associated governing boards, and church policymakers create and execute strategies to address the lack of qualified presidential aspirants in the pipeline. Recent graduates of doctoral education should express their eventual interest in the presidency and seek out varied leadership experiences early on in their careers. Church officials should consider formal implementation of a leadership track and consider succession planning within the SDA system.

Primary School educators' beliefs about suspension and exclusion of students with challenging behaviours

Howard, Judith January 2005 (has links)
A growing international research base is suggesting that there can be no more serious sanction taken against children of primary school age than to withdraw their rights to attend school through suspension and exclusion - referred to in Queensland as School Disciplinary Absence (SDA). The short and long-term detrimental consequences of SDA to student recipients, their families, and social structures are well documented. Yet, SDA remains as a controversial, often policy-supported means to manage challenging student behaviour increasingly used by Queensland government schools. To contribute to this growing research, this project examines the potential influence of an array of principals' and teachers' beliefs on their decisions regarding the use of SDA within five government primary schools in Queensland. The study adopts a multi-method, case-study approach and is informed by social constructionist and critical theory perspectives. It draws from Rokeach's (1968) conceptualisation of the human belief system as having a number of sections where particular stated beliefs may be influenced by more powerful beliefs situated within another part of the system, which may (in turn) influence decisions and actions. Data were drawn from school documents, surveys, and interviews. Survey data revealed strong support for the use of SDA but interview data suggested that most participants believed that SDA was ineffective and held overriding concerns for the wellbeing and education of students exhibiting challenging behaviours. In some cases, particular beliefs were shown to override this unfavourable view of SDA and cause educators to become more likely to endorse its implementation. The study examines the complex construction of a variety of educator beliefs regarding SDA in general, the types of students who are more at risk of SDA, school and educator responsibility for supporting these students, and factors believed to prevent or make it difficult to avoid the use of SDA. Also, participants' concerns and recommendations regarding SDA are examined and implications for professional practice and school reform are considered.

No. of bitstreams: 1 5274.pdf: 984660 bytes, checksum: be57989a598b10b572f7a8db0e3cfc54 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-02-28 / Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos / Despite all the knowledge about the excitation-contraction coupling (E-C) in mammals, there are still large gaps in the knowledge of the cardiac myocytes physiology in other vertebrates. Thus, the study of groups underexplored such as reptiles is very important. Python snakes are of great interest regarding to the studies of the postprandial metabolism because the physiological responses are exacerbated when digesting large preys. Studies with these snakes showed hypertrophy of the cardiac tissue 2 to 3 days after feeding, coinciding with the peak of the specific dynamic action (SDA), but the consequences of this remodeling in myocardial contractility have not been studied, which was the purpose of this work. Specimens of Python molurus of both sexes, provided by the Jacarezário of UNESP / Rio Claro were brought to the Laboratory of Comparative Biochemistry and Zoofisiologia, UFSCar, where they remained for at least 15 days for acclimatization (30 °C). The snakes were divided into two groups: 28 days (sacrificed 28 days after feeding) and 2 days (sacrificed 2 days after feeding, in the peak of the SDA). Each snake (n = 10) was fed (Wistar rats with a 30% weight of the snake) and the sacrifice (decapitation) occurred according to the experimental feeding regime. After sacrifice, the hearts were removed, weighed to calculate the relative ventricular mass (MVR) and ventricular strips were prepared to analyse the following parameters: peak force (Fc), times to peak force (TPT) and to 50% relaxation (THR), the effect of experimental time (40 min), elevation of the stimulation frequency and post-rest tension, being the latter two protocols performed in the presence and absence of ryanodine. Differences were considered significant at p <0.05 (Student's t test). When compared to group 28 days, animals of group 2 days showed a significant increase in MVR. The Fc values in the protocols of effect of time and increasing frequency of electrical stimulation were higher in group 2 days when compared to the group 28 days. The rates of contraction and relaxation were lower in group 2 days, and the derivatives of the maximum contraction and relaxation showed higher values for this group compared to the group 28 days, indicating greater efficiency in the processes of contraction and relaxation during E-C coupling. In the post-rest tension protocol, there was no significant difference in force developed before and after the pause in control preparations, but the ryanodine reduced Fc of the first contraction after the pause in both groups. The increasing frequency of stimulation in the presence of ryanodine abolished the difference between the values of all analyzed parameters presented by the two experimental groups. The increase in the MRV of group 2 days associated with a greater efficiency of Ca2+ transport in cardiac tissue was responsible for the increase in Fc, important for maintaining cardiac output and blood flow at the high metabolism during digestion. The RS appears to contribute significantly to the calcium dynamics during E-C coupling of P. molurus, but further studies are necessary to fully understand this process.

Modelování a detekce útoku SlowDrop / Modeling and detection of SlowDrop attack

Mazánek, Pavel January 2020 (has links)
The work's main topic is a recently published slow DoS attack called SlowDrop. The work focuses on the subject of describing the current state of the DoS problem as a whole and the SlowDrop attack as well. It works with this theoretical basis during the implementation of it's own SlowDrop attack model. This model is tested in various scenarios and the outcome results are analyzed and constructively discussed. Furthermore defensive mechanisms against this threat and DoS attacks in general are proposed, specific methods shown and configurations recommended. These methods are followingly tested and evaluated. Last but not least the traffic of a SlowDrop attacker and a legitimate client with bad connection, which the SlowDrop attack is trying to immitate, are compared. From this comparison final conclusions of this work are drawn.

Detekce útoku SlowDrop / SlowDrop attack detection

Náčin, Peter January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on the detection of a slow DoS attack named SlowDrop. The attack tries to imitate a legitimate person with a slow internet connection and does not show a new strong signature, so the attack is difficult to detect. The diploma thesis is based on the work of Ing. Mazanek in which the SlowDrop attack script was created. At the theoretical level, the issue of DoS attacks is described in general, but also in particular. Furthermore, the work develops methods for solving the problem of SlowDrop attack detection. The methods are then defined in detail and tested in a simulation environment. The practical part describes data analysis, signature detection, anomaly detection using neural networks and a detection script. In all practical parts, the used technologies and solution procedures are described in detail. The specific implementation of the solution and the achieved results are also presented. Finally, the individual results are evaluated, compared individually, but also among themselves. The obtained results show that the attack is detectable using a neural network and by created detection script.

Modeling of Strain-Hardening Cement-based Composites (SHCC): A Finite Element Method using the Strong Discontinuity Approach (SDA) with Explicit Representation of Fibers

Shehni, Alaleh 15 March 2021 (has links)
Concrete is a predominant construction material due to several advantages; however, the pure cementitious composites have shown quasi-brittle behavior with undesirable typical large cracks under tensile loading conditions. Thus, the addition of a small volume of short fibers is a well-known strategy to increase the ductility and toughness of cementitious matrices besides optimization of the crack opening. Strain-hardening cement-based composites (SHCCs) is a particular class of fiber-reinforced concretes (FRCC) that can develop controlled multiple cracks while subjected to incremental tensile loading conditions. However, a proper composition design, especially concerning fiber and bond properties, still follows a trial and error approach. This work presents a newly developed model to simulate SHCC at the meso-scale level. This model is based on Finite-Element-Method and allows for nonlinear behavior for cement matrix, fiber material, and bond laws. Concerning three complexities of target FRCC, i.e., crack formation in the cement matrix, a large number of explicit fibers with arbitrary random distribution, and fibers’ interaction with the cement matrix via the bond, extra features are added to standard FE consist of: • Further development of the Strong Discontinuity Approach (SDA) to model discrete cracking of continuum elements on the element level • Discretization of single fibers by truss elements with truss nodes independently placed of continuum nodes • Connecting SDA elements to explicit truss elements by particular bond elements. In this research study, first, theoretical basics and special implementation issues were described. Later, this newly developed model was calibrated with several simple configurations. The bond law utilized in the simulation was derived from single fiber pullout test and calibrated with several analyses. In the next step, 2D SHCC dumbbell specimens under tensile loading condition were simulated, and a series of numerical case studies were performed to assess the quality, credibility, and limitations of the numerical model. It should be noted that cracking patterns could not be directly compared to experimental cracking patterns as the simulation model’s current state is deterministic by random material properties that influence the experimental specimen behavior. Taking the effect of random field and other simplifying assumptions into account, the simulation model seems to describe enumerated SHCC behavior at an acceptable level. In summary, a further base is given for the target-oriented design of FRCC material composition to reach the given objectives of material properties. The concepts and methods presented in this study can simulate short and thin polymer fibers in a random position and steel fibers and structures with long reinforcement in a regular arrangement.

Investigation on the Use of Small Aperture Telescopes for LEO Satellite Orbit Determination

Curiel, Luis R, III 01 December 2020 (has links) (PDF)
The following thesis regards the use of small aperture telescopes for space domain awareness efforts. The rapidly populating space domain was motivation for the development of a new operation scheme to conduct space domain awareness feasibility studies using small telescopes. Two 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes at the California Polytechnic State University and the Air Force Research Lab in Kirtland AFB, NM, in conjunction with a dedicated CCD camera and a commercial DSLR camera, were utilized to conduct optical observations on satellites in Earth orbit. Satellites were imaged during August 2019, and from January 2020 to March 2020, resulting in the collection of 77 valid images of 16 unique satellites. These images were used to obtain celestial spherical coordinates, which were used in Gauss and Double-R angles-only initial orbit determination methods. Initial orbit determination methods successfully produced valid results, reaffirming the feasibility of using small aperture telescopes for such methods. These orbit determinations were used to propagate orbit states forward in time to determine the feasibility of future imaging of the targets with the same apparatus. Propagation results demonstrated that initial orbit determinations rapidly decayed in accuracy over distant times and are most accurate for immediate satellite passes. In addition, an attempt to combine multiple initial orbit determinations using Lambert’s problem solutions was made. Combination of these multiple initial orbit determinations resulted in either no orbit state accuracy improvement compared to individual initial orbit determinations, or a decrease in accuracy compared to these methods. Ultimately, efforts demonstrated that small telescope usage is feasible for orbit determination operations, however there may be a need for hardware and operational revisions to improve the ability of the apparatus.

Régulation de la fonction cardio-respiratoire au cours du cycle de vie de Nothobranchius furzeri : rôle de la température / Cardio-respiratory function during Nothobranchius furzeri life cycle : temperature impact

Durollet, Marie 18 December 2015 (has links)
Cardio-respiratory system plays a key role in an organism by delivering oxygen and nutrients towards the cells. Exploring its age-dependant changes is therefore a corner stone for assessing the organism capacity to meet its energetic needs along its life cycle, and for the understanding of mechanisms involved in the mortality due to aging process. This study was realized in a vertebrate with an extremely short lifespan (~6 months), the fish Nothobranchius furzeri. Temperature is an external factor that regulates longevity. Here, fish were acclimatized at two temperatures, 26 °C considered as the optimal temperature for this species, and 22 °C. Biological responses of fish were evaluated at individual level through the assessment of aerobic metabolic scope (AS), growth, reproduction, locomotion and digestion, which are considered to be relevant indirect measurement of fitness. Furthermore, mechanisms involved in the cardiac function regulation were explored through a morpho-functional study of cardiomyocytes. Along the individual life cycle, two phases were emphasized: 1) the first corresponds to AS elevation from the juvenile to the adult stages, following by 2) a second phase reflecting the entrance in the senescent stage, characterized by the decline in AS, cardiac performances and in activity level. A temperature reduction increases the individual longevity and slows-down deleterious effect of aging on both AS and cardiac function. This study will contribute to provide a global vision of senescent effects on cardio-respiratory system, and a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in temperature-dependent increase in longevity.

Termofilia e termogênese pós-prandiais em Bothrops moojeni (Serpentes:Viperidae) em cativeiro / Thermogenesis and post-prandial termophly in Bothrops moojeni (Serpentes: Viperidae) in captivity

Stuginski, Daniel Rodrigues 12 May 2009 (has links)
The study of the preferred temperatures and thermophilic behavior is essential to understand the snakes thermal biology. Although some studies have been reported, most of them are focused in temperate and diurnal species. Thus, little is known about the tropical and sub-tropical nocturnal species. In the present study , a video-monitored arena with a thermal gradient was used to investigate the preferred thermal range during activity and inactivity (Tset) and the post-prandial thermophilic response after different levels of food intake in 29 Brazilian lanceheads (Bothrops moojeni). The results showed that the preferred thermal range of B.moojeni changes depending on the photoperiod (20.93°C to 22.20°C in daytime and 22.81°C to 24.42°C in night time), being similar to other crotalinae snakes. Our data suggests that there is an inverse correlation between the post-prandial thermophilic response intensity and food intake, as animals fed with a portion corresponding to 10% of its bodyweight presented a higher thermophilic response in comparison to those who were fed with larger portions (20 and 40% of bodyweight). This difference may be related to the decreased mobility and increased SDA (Specific Dynamic Action) in animals that consumed the largest amount of food. Crotalinae are considered to be mainly nocturnal and most of the gathered data on these snakes came from field work. The knowledge of activity pattern and how nutritional status affect wandering rate are determinant to understand the ecophysiology of the snakes. In this study the daily activity pattern was followed in 29 subjects of the lancehead Bothrops moojeni in order to record displacement rate in fasting and feed snakes for five days after feeding meal of 10, 20 and 40% of their own body weight. The results show that B.moojeni is prevalently nocturnal, and activity increased 45 times at night, peaking between 19 to 20 h, in both males and females. Activity level changed significantly after feeding in snakes which ate a larger meal (20-40%). The results confirm previous field data for B.moojeni as a nocturnal species with low mobility. The complex interactions between the amount of food taken by the snake, energetic balance and mobility are discussed. Snakes were for long considered incapable to generate heat fueled by aerobic metabolism, except for brooding pythons. However, recent studies proved that some species are able to elevate their body temperature without muscle contraction or external heat source. Such thermogenic capacity is supported by high metabolic rate that follows digestion and assimilation of food (Specific Dynamic Action - SDA). Snakes have a low maintenance cost and most species can stand for long fasting time, particularly after ingesting a great meal. The energy produced during digestion of such meal can generate significant increase in body temperature. The present study investigated thermogenic response after feeding in the Brazilian lancehead, Bothrops moojeni, using thermal images taken in temperature controlled environment at 30°C. The 12 snakes were divided into two groups and followed for 72 hours after fed a meal representing 10-20% and 30-40% of their body weight, respectively. The results showed thermogenic digestive response with an increase up to 1.6 °C of skin temperature. Thermal heat production peak occurred between 33 to 36 hours after feeding in both groups, and the duration of thermogeny varied with the meal size. The result showed high correlation between thermogenic data and SDA in snakes. The significant increase of body temperature after feeding and its maintenance for extended time suggest a physiological advantage to keep high metabolic rate despite of environmental temperature.
