”Här är vargen snäll” : En intervjustudie om fyra folkbibliotekariers syn på normkritik i förhållande till bokval för sagostunden / ”The wolf is kind here” : An interview study of four public librarians' views on norm criticism in relation to book selection for story times

Tikas, Heidi January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate if, and how, normcriticism is a factor for four librarians at public libraries whenthey select the titles to read at a organized story time forchildren.Four qualitative interviews were conducted, with the purposeto get a deeper knowledge on which perspectives were crucialin the four librarians’ processes of choosing what books topresent for the participants of the story time.To analyse the results of the interview, I used two theories. One which focused on norm criticism from four differentangles, and another with three views on reading, adjusted forthis study on reading aloud. The views for norm criticismwere taken from Kumashiros theory on anti oppressivepedagogy and Education for the other, education about theother, education that is critical of othering and privileging, and education that changes students and society. The viewsregarding book selection were the based on Sandins theory, and were emancipatory, the traditionalistic and the pragmatic. The study found that, for these particular librarians, the mostimportant factor was that, since the story time is voluntary, itis essential that the kids enjoy the activity. But, in regards tothe selection process, the librarians used an anti-oppressiveview in making sure that no harmful stereotypes were presentin the story. Sometimes at the expense of the classic tales.

Vi har ju bara bra böcker : En kvalitativ studie av bibliotekariers bokval till sagostunden

Aderlund, Lisa, Lindahl, Lisa January 2024 (has links)

Tahiri, Ardiana January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is about children librarians work with reading promotion activities. In this study five children librarians were interviewed. All the children librarians were interviewed through Microsoft team, Skype and Zoom due to the pandemic situation. An interview up to 15 questions were questioned during the interviews with the children librarians. The main research questions for this study is to answer what methods do children's librarians use regarding reading promotion activities? How do children's librarians plan, document and follow up reading promotion activities? How do children's librarians handle challenges that occur in the work to promote reading? In this thesis previous research shows that different methods of promoting reading activities affects small children’s desire to read positively. But there can also be bad consequences during reading activities if children don’t desire to read or have difficulties with speech learning which may affect children’s speech development negatively.

”När [barn] möter en dragartist möter de en sagofigur” : Sagostunder med dragartister på folkbibliotek. / ”When [children] encounter a dragqueen they see a fictional character” : Drag storytimes in public libraries.

Landgren, Rebecka, Nykänen, Jennifer January 2023 (has links)
This study aims to acquire knowledge about the concept of drag storytimes in public libraries. It addresses research questions regarding their relation to the libraries' mission, as well as associated experiences with and perceptions of these events. The study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews with different stakeholders, alongside non-participatory observation, as well as media and social media analysis. The theoretical frameworks of agonistic pluralism and visibility are employed.  Findings show that drag storytimes promote accessibility, representation, and acceptance of diversity, aligning with libraries' democratic mission. They also bridge the gap between the art form drag and literature, serving as a means for libraries to encourage and facilitate children's reading. Findings also highlight misconceptions and misrepresentations of drag storytimes in media and public discourse. While libraries have encountered challenges and resistance when hosting drag storytimes, they have also received significant appreciation and support. Resistance is based on concerns about sexualization, indoctrination and unsuitability for children. These concerns are addressed with observations and interviews, which refute these notions.  This study finds that the purpose of drag storytimes lies in promoting reading and providing entertaining experiences for children, emphasizing their child-centric nature. Opinions and perceptions influenced by adults' perspectives, biases, and fears impact the power dynamics among libraries, the public, and politics. This study underscores the challenges faced by libraries in this dynamic and emphasizes their resilience. It underlines the importance of information dissemination, communication, and destigmatization of drag and drag storytimes. By engaging in open conversations, librarians can address misconceptions, confront prejudices, and broaden perspectives.
