Örum

Antman, Therese January 2019 (has links)
Something essential in this project is to highlight the spirit of the archipelago. My project is creating spaces where you can experience the calm, the ruff, the warm and the cold. The sea can give such a variety of conditions. It changes with the seasons but it also changes with the weather and can quickly go from still breeze to full storm. It is a place that offers an escape in the same time as it ground you in the purest of realities. I have located my project at Landsort, in the south part of Stockholm archipelago, close to Nynäshamn. This part of the archipelago has a close connection to main land, and also takes you out fast to open sea. On Landsort I have created something I call Örum. In opposite of a Naturum, I want to preserve the possibility to explore the nature rather than preserve the nature itself. I believe the nature will change and the outer archipelago will be harder to visit. With my structures it will be possible to visit & explore Landsort for many years to come.

SAUNA – Den folkhälsovetenskapliga kärnan i den finska bastu / SAUNA –The essence of the Finnish sauna from a public health perspective

Siitonen, Eva January 2007 (has links)
Finländaren badar bastu i medeltal 1-2 gånger i veckan. Datainsamling sker via intervju. Som intervjumetod väljes den i antropologin använda kvalitativa The long interview (McCracken 1988). Ritualer i bastubadande ger trygghet / The overall aim of the study is to describe and analyse how the Finns experience of the sauna affects their quality of life. The study question is how Finns experience the culturally significant sauna bathing affect their health with emphasize on quality of life. The Finnish population is approx. 5,1 million inhabitants and there are more than 2 million saunas (Statistikcentralen 2004). The Finns take a sauna on average 1-2 times a week. (Nyholm, unpublihshed material) Sauna has always been a part of the Finnish way of life. Traditionally it belongs to the Finnish culture and is a dearly loved source of national pride. Traditionally the sauna has been used for health, capacity for work and hygiene. (Tähkä et al. 1970). The method used is The long interview (McCracken 1988). The method can be described in four steps: Review of Analytic Categories, Review of Cultural Categories, Discovery of Cultural Categories and Discovery of Analytic Categories. This method allows investigators to exploit familiarity with their own culture so that they may design better questions, listen more skilfully and analyze data with greater sensitivity. A synthesis of the theoretical perspective, review of the literature and the interviews can be summarised by the following statements: Sauna is part of the Finnish way of life. Most Finns use the sauna as preventive, promotive and as a cure for different ailments. The sauna has a positive effect on physical, psychological and social health and therefore on the quality of life. The sauna is a cultural experience. Taking a sauna can be a way of experiencing nature. The rituals around sauna give a feeling of security. /
ISBN 978-91-85721-17-7

Varanger Sauna

Carlsen, Alexander January 2019 (has links)
The detailing of many important and essential aspects of a building are initially neglected and thought of as a last step before the completion of a project, starting with the large scale working down to the small scale. They’re usually treated secondary and the general scheme is prioritized. Superficial and assembled rather than detailed and how it’s assembled. This creates a dilemma when necessary elements of a building begin to be considered how to be built and are treated as a problem, when it should be considered as an opportunity. More often than not, the product of a detail is a solution to a problem that was created. Not meaning the problem could’ve been avoided, the problem still needed to be solved regardless, but it was solved out of necessity and not as an asset to the project. This project was not about working backward, starting with a detail and working outwards to create a whole, to assemble fragments without any real sense of bearing. I didn’t use the detailing of the project just for the sake if it, to solve a problem that perhaps didn’t need to be solved. Instead embrace the challenge of a given situation as a seed from which a design process can grow. By briefly zoom in on a specific situation I hoped to develop a common language of the building as a whole. To create something that belongs to the building and not considered as an addition.

Outdoor baths of Sandvik / Sandvik kallbadhus

Holgersson, Gerd January 2014 (has links)
In this thesis I’ve been working with a proposal for an outdoor bath complex in the village Sandvik on the north-west coast of Öland. The research questions asked in the beginning of the process were: - How can an outdoor bath complex (kallbadhus) be formed so as to match the needs of the summer tourists as well as the permanently living inhabitants of the island and a be well functioning institution all year round? - How can the baths be formed to meet and take care of the existing qualities of the site? - How can I in the working process get grip of and develope the sensual, non-visual aspects of the architecture? The working process has been a dialogue between the inner spaces of the structure and the bigger landscape. The sensual experience of specific spaces of the baths and how they relate to the landscape has been essential, both from the perspective of being inside the structure and from the outside. The baths consist of a group of buildings – some wooden and some made of concrete – placed around 60 meters from the coast. It’s, as mentioned, directed towards both summer tourists and the normal inhabitant of Öland, and it offers different kinds of sauna and bathing situations such as dry saunas, steam sauna, shower rooms, and various forms of outdoor bathing.
