Livet efter en brännskada / Life after a burn injury

Luthman, Tamcin, Nielsen, Karin January 2018 (has links)
Burns cause trauma that can lead to permanent scarring and can have a major impact on the affected person's life. The physical healing process is parallel to the processing of trauma and adaptation to life. To accelerate the healing it is essential to have knowledge about how people with burns experience their burn and scars. The nurse has an important function both in the acute and long-term care of people with burns. The aim of this literature study was to describe experiences of living with permanent scarring after a burn. Through content analysis, 11 qualitative articles were processed. It was found that life was influenced to a large extent both physically and psychological after a burn. The body felt different, painful, and more present. People with burns often experienced psychological difficulties as a result of pain, trauma, and an altered appearance. People who have suffered from a burn with permanent scarring felt that they were affected by the injury for an extensive period of time This literature study contributes to increased understanding of people's perceptions of a burn and can lay the foundation for nurse's further education in pain management.

Funkční změny pohybového systému u pacientů s jizvou v břišní krajině / Functional changes of postural syndrome in patients with a scar in the abdominal region

Znamenáčková, Radka January 2008 (has links)
This diploma thesis brings together findings concerning the problematic of postsurgical active scars putting the stress on postsurgical abdominal scars. It deals with a patofysiology of active scars. First part summarizes case studies concerning diagnostic, manual treatment of active scar tissue and clinical importance of active scars. Second one presents examination of after-hysterectomy patients. Results suggest that active abdominal scar can disturb locomotor system function. In fact it can cause locomotor dysfunction and may contribute to painful conditions of the locomotor system. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Transcriptomic and Cellular Studies of Tail Regeneration in Saurian Reptiles

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: Traumatic injury to the central nervous or musculoskeletal system in traditional amniote models, such as mouse and chicken, is permanent with long-term physiological and functional effects. However, among amniotes, the ability to regrow complex, multi-tissue structures is unique to non-avian reptiles. Structural regeneration is extensively studied in lizards, with most species able to regrow a functional tail. The lizard regenerated tail includes the spinal cord, cartilage, de novo muscle, vasculature, and skin, and unlike mammals, these tissues can be replaced in lizards as adults. These studies focus on the events that occur before and after the tail regrowth phase, identifying conserved mechanisms that enable functional tail regeneration in the green anole lizard, Anolis carolinensis. An examination of coordinated interactions between peripheral nerves, Schwann cells, and skeletal muscle reveal that reformation of the lizard neuromuscular system is dependent upon developmental programs as well as those unique to the adult during late stages of regeneration. On the other hand, transcriptomic analysis of the early injury response identified many immunoregulatory genes that may be essential for inhibiting fibrosis and initiating regenerative programs. Lastly, an anatomical and histological study of regrown alligator tails reveal that regenerative capacity varies between different reptile groups, providing comparative opportunities within amniotes and across vertebrates. In order to identify mechanisms that limit regeneration, these cross-species analyses will be critical. Taken together, these studies serve as a foundation for future experimental work that will reveal the interplay between reparative and regenerative mechanisms in adult amniotes with translational implications for medical therapies. / Dissertation/Thesis / Differentially Expressed Genes in the Early Regenerating Lizard Tail / Gene Ontology of Differentially Expressed Genes in the Early Regenerating Lizard Tail / KEGG and Reactome Pathway Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes in the Early Regenerating Lizard Tail / 3D Reconstruction of an Alligator Regenerated Endoskeleton / Lateral 2D Serial Sections of a Regenerated Alligator Tail / Doctoral Dissertation Biology 2020

Collision Domain between Artistic Subjectivity and National Sovereignty: The Historical Trauma Experience and Political Resistance

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: The relationship between Chinese modern and contemporary artistic creation and the national sovereignty of China is a worthy subject of debate. Within it, modernism and intellectual/artistic subjectivity are two necessary starting points. However, there is still a good deal of uncertainty around these two points. First, can the modernization process of China be accepted as the general meaning of modernization? Second, are some Chinese modern and contemporary artists actually modern intellectuals? Based on clarification of the above two uncertainties, this thesis is an attempt to argue that the Chinese artists who regard themselves, their artworks and creations, as intellectual, reflect the collision domain between themselves and the political entity of national sovereignty in China: the communist regime controlled by the CCP, Chinese Communist Party中國共産黨. In this thesis, three chapters discuss the relationship between Chinese modern and contemporary art and the CCP. In my theoretical exposition, I argue that the artistic/intellectual subjectivity of modern Chinese artists gradually developed and changed during the conflict and struggle with the Communist rule. In the first chapter, I introduce the biography and artistic creation of Chinese literati painters under the communist rule, exemplified by Wu Hufan吳湖帆. I analyze and demonstrate how the subjectivity of the traditional literati gradually lost strength under the pressure of nationalism, the disenchantment with modernization, and communism. In the second chapter, I focus on the Scar Art art movement of the 1970s to the 1980s, as well as representative artists and their works in this direction of art, such as Cheng Conglin程叢林 and Gao Xiaohua高小華. In this chapter, I use feminism and Foucault's political-philosophical theories to explain these visual expressions of the memory of historical trauma in Scar Art during this period. In Chapter 3, by discussing the works of two artists, He Gong何工 and Ai Weiwei艾未未, in the context of Foucault’s political philosophy, I argue that artists how to express their intellectual subjectivity and political resistance through their contributions to Chinese contemporary art. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Art History 2020

The Associated Risk Factors That Lead To The Onset Of Sarcoidosis In Black American Women

Simmons, Tiffany McIntyre 01 January 2016 (has links)
Sarcoidosis is a disease characterized as noncaseation granulomas. Granulomas are clusters of cells that form a discrete nodule. This research was important because Black American women develop saroidosis at a higher rate than any other race. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to examine the impact of sarcoidosis in the lives of Black American women diagnosed with the disease and to consider how occupational experiences may have contributed to participants' development of sarcoidosis. Research states that domestic work such as cleaning, when performed on a daily basis or as an occupation, can contribute to adverse health effects. The framework of this study utilized the transtheoretical model of behavior change while the overall research questions centered on the effects of sarcoidosis on the quality of life of Black American women. This qualitative research included interviews with thirteen Black American women diagnosed and living with sarcoidosis at various stages. Data were collected using the software tool HyperRESEARCH. Both purposive sampling and snowball sampling technique was used for this research. Data were gathered using a general profile of the lived experiences of women with sarcoidosis. The findings revealed that the common lived experience that has potentially put Black American women at risk for developing sarcoidosis is bleach. My recommendations for further research would be to expand the locations of participants to across the United States. The implications for positive social change may result from broader knowledge of the disease through education, even for those who are not at risk for developing it. Chronic sarcoidosis can be fatal if untreated.
