<p>Our purpose with this research has been to obtain a deeper insight and understanding for the phenomenon and term “weekday-luxury.”</p><p>Through our research, we have found a link between value, service, brands and consumer behaviour into a relationship that we termed “weekday-luxury.” This link of values is particularly interesting to us and we are curious about the underlying motivation to “weekday-luxury” and the driving forces underlying the phenomenon. We have noticed in society that people need something extra in their daily lives and we attempt to speculate where their perceived value lies through the concept of “weekday-luxury." Our goal is to determine a deeper understanding and insight into this phenomenon and how it meets our needs through an identifiable pattern. We also analyze the nature of “weekday-luxury” and its meaning. This essay further focuses on peoples effort to “treat ourselves” from which we have chosen a market-oriented perspective, as well as a quantitative method, from which we have performed eight personal interviews and three mail interviews.</p>

A qualitative study of young women's experiences of the neoliberal labor market

Karlsson, Matilda, Lindersson, Rosanna January 2017 (has links)
This is a qualitative study that aims to understand how young women experience the neoliberal labor market through a structural perspective. The study is concerning how women relate to the demands and expectations in work life. The empirics is composed by interviews with young women who’s working within the staffing and recruitment industry. Through the schematisation of the empirical basis we have identified how the women are forced to deal with the positions that has been given, due to the inequality that characterizes our society. The analysis enhances four main themes that together gives us an understanding for how the women are forced to use different strategies to handle the demands and expectations. The results reveal how women through internalisation of the characteristics that are requested consider themselves able to control and influence their future. Thus to be “duktig” (good, capable and efficient) becomes a tool for the women to affect their fate and possibilities. The statements from our participants brings us to the conclusion were we claim that beeing “duktig” has a downside. We suppose that beeing “duktig” may restrict women and allow them to be exploited rather than to help them move forward in their career.

Charléz, Nora January 2009 (has links)
För intervjupersonerna går den rörliga anställningsformen hand i hand med en ambulerande och flexibel livsstil och arbetets och den privata sfärens ramar visar sig bli allt otydligare liksom föreställningen om var gränserna mellan sfärerna går.</p> / <p>Project work is one of the atypical contracts that fall under the concept of temporary jobs and is considered the most privileged group in the name of the collection. Through a qualitative interview study with 8 project employees the paper will provide a better picture of the interview subject’s experiences of how <em>working life</em> and <em>private sphere</em> are combined and affect each other. The analysis is grounded in a theoretical framework based on the theories of the sociologists Sennett, Giddens, Castells, Berger & Luckmann, Beck and Bauman. The results suggest that the labour is strongly related to the interviewees’ conception of their identity, the attachment to the work and social relations that are related to the workplace is perceived as strong. The project employees consider their work as being rewarding, interesting and creative in the way that it creates opportunities, which are an explanation to why the interviewees have chosen to work as project employees for a long period of time. It’s also identified that the interviewees’ network of business contacts provides a form of security and feeling of safety. The networks have a work-generating function, which requires a great deal of commitment and a constant continuation to be maintained. For the interviewees the variable form of employment goes hand in hand with an ambulant and flexible lifestyle and the boundaries between the work life and the private spheres is becoming more diffuse.</p>

Den potentiella människan : En undersökning av teorier om självförverkligande / The Potential Human : A Study of Theories of Self-realization

Nilsson, Staffan January 2005 (has links)
<p>“What characterizes an acceptable theory of self-realization?” The thrust of the present dissertation is towards seeking an answer to this central problem, which stems from the fundamental human experience that life involves change, and that in a modern society such change is often expected to be towards a realization of potentials and the good life for the individual. </p><p>The dissertation has a three-fold purpose. The first is to clarify the content of five modern theories of self-realization from three academic fields. The theories are those of the psychologist Abraham H. Maslow, the philosophers Charles Taylor and Alan Gewirth, and the theologians Reinhold Niebuhr and Bernard Lonergan. These are methodologically studied by the help of seven analytical questions. The second purpose is to perform a lengthwise comparatative analysis of the five theories, the results of which lead to the third; namely to critically discuss several elements of the reality of human life which have proven to be missing or supressed in much of the material.</p><p>The theoretical framework for the dissertation runs along two axes: one concerns what is developed as a distinction between internalism and relationalism, and the other is to cast a critical light on the lack of attention paid by the the theories of self-realization to experiences which run counter to optimistic ideas of individual development, such as death, loss and dependence. </p><p>The dissertation concludes with an outline for a constructive position based on the necessity of a theory’s closeness to experience, and on the need for reconcilitation of what may seem to be unabridgeble in human life. A theory of self-realization must do more than formulate positive conditions for change. It must also take into consideration conditions that are not directly related to, and sometimes even run contrary to, realization of the self.</p>
