Polymediated Narrative: The Case of the Supernatural Episode "Fan Fiction"

Herbig, Art, Herrmann, Andrew F. 01 January 2016 (has links)
Modern stories are the product of a recursive process influenced by elements of genre, outside content, medium, and more. These stories exist in a multitude of forms and are transmitted across multiple media. This article examines how those stories function as pieces of a broader narrative, as well as how that narrative acts as a world for the creation of stories. Through an examination of the polymediated nature of modern narratives, we explore the complicated nature of modern storytelling.

PharmaChain: Distributed Ledger Based Robust Solutions to Ensure Counterfeit-Free Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

Bapatla, Anand Kumar 07 1900 (has links)
Globalization has transformed the pharmaceutical industry into a vast, interconnected network. However, this complexity has led to inefficiencies in the supply chain, with existing ERP systems struggling to keep up due to their centralized nature, resulting in a lack of transparency and increased errors. This research proposes efficient distributed ledger-based architectures to address these challenges. In Chapter 3, a new transparent supply chain architecture is introduced to eliminate blind spots and enable stakeholders to verify the authenticity of pharmaceutical products. This system creates a secure, single source of truth for the entire lifecycle of medicines, thereby eliminating counterfeits. Chapter 4 focuses on securing the cold pharmaceutical supply chain using IoT and distributed ledgers. The proposed architecture monitors and controls environmental parameters, ensuring safe drug transport. Scalability is addressed with a novel proof of authentication (PoAh) blockchain called EasyChain. In Chapter 5, the serialization of pharmaceutical products is enhanced through digital twinning, providing an efficient and cost-effective solution while complying with regulations. This research aims to create scalable and efficient pharmaceutical supply chains, reducing counterfeits and improving overall security.

A comparative study of transaction management services in multidatabase heterogeneous systems

Renaud, Karen Vera 04 1900 (has links)
Multidatabases are being actively researched as a relatively new area in which many aspects are not yet fully understood. This area of transaction management in multidatabase systems still has many unresolved problems. The problem areas which this dissertation addresses are classification of multidatabase systems, global concurrency control, correctness criterion in a multidatabase environment, global deadlock detection, atomic commitment and crash recovery. A core group of research addressing these problems was identified and studied. The dissertation contributes to the multidatabase transaction management topic by introducing an alternative classification method for such multiple database systems; assessing existing research into transaction management schemes and based on this assessment, proposes a transaction processing model founded on the optimal properties of transaction management identified during the course of this research. / Computing / M. Gramática tanimuka, una lengua de la Amazonía colombiana / Grammaire de la langue tanimuka, Amazonie colombienne / Grammar of the Tanimuka language, Colombian Amazon

Eraso, Natalia 27 May 2015 (has links)
This grammar of Tanimuka, a Tucanoan language of the Colombian Amazonian area, is organized in four parts. The first part, ‘Tanimuka : the language and its speakers’, is divided into three chapters (1 to 3), which establish the sociolinguistic profile of the language and describe the fieldwork conditions. The second part, divided into two chapters (5 and 6), presents a description of the phonology and morphophonology of the language, with a study of the phenomenon of syllabic epenthesis in the verb. The third part (chapters 7 and 8) begins with a general study of the morphosyntactic and syntactic levels, followed by an in-depth study of the noun classification systems: gender and numeral classifier. The fourth part (chapters 9 to 11) focuses on the expression of space, omnipresent in the language. The first chapter presents an inventory of all the elements that express the domain of space in the language. The second provides a detailed analysis of postures and positional verbs in basic locative construction of simple or complex predicates (serial verb constructions). The final chapter is dedicated to the study of the expression of the Trajectory category. The dissertation ends with three annexes, which present, in turn, the visual stimuli created for the investigation of locative verbs of posture and position, a study of the traditional system of numeration and the transcription of a history of oral tradition: 'The tortoise Parekika', glossed and translated.

Between Verb and Preposition: Diachronic Stages of Coverbs in Mandarin Chinese

Jones, Glynis 03 April 2023 (has links)
Mandarin Chinese has long been known to possess a category of words known as ‘coverbs’ in the literature, which sit in the gray area between verb and preposition. Li and Thompson (1974) describe the historical origins of Mandarin coverbs to be full transitive verbs, despite their modern state being decidedly less verbal. They also note that coverbs are a non-homogenous class. This thesis works to establish categories of coverbs in Mandarin Chinese and their distance from true verbhood in order to understand the diachronic shift that coverbs are currently undergoing before our very eyes. I will draw on the work of scholars of Atlantic-Congo languages, Oceanic languages, and other languages of mainland Southeast Asia, to create semantic, syntactic, and morphological testing for Mandarin coverbs. Using the results of this three-pronged testing approach, I will map the results on a six-pointed verb-preposition matrix in order to visualize the space between verb and preposition and how Mandarin coverbs inhabit it. I will then use these diagrams to create a numerical score for each category of coverb and place them on a linear progression between verbhood and prepositionhood. Lastly, this work will analyze the theta roles assigned by Mandarin coverbs in each category and propose stages of diachronic development for Mandarin coverbs.
