Due to that, a number of research initiatives (e.g., service ontologies, conceptual models, and theories) have tried to understand and characterize the complex notion of service. However, due to particular views of these disciplines and economic sectors, a number of different characterizations of service (e.g., service as interaction, service as co-creation of value, and service as capability / manifestation of competence, among others) have been proposed. The existence of these various non-harmonized characterizations, and the focus on a terminological debate about the service concept, instead of about the service phenomena from a broad perspective, make the establishment of a unified body of knowledge for service difficult. This limitation impacts, e.g., the establishment of unified conceptualization for supporting the smooth alignment between Business and IT views in service-oriented enterprise architecture (SoEA), and the design and usage of service modeling languages. In this thesis we define a theoretical foundation for service based on the notion of service commitment and claims as basic elements in the characterization of service relations along service life-cycle phases (service offer, service negotiation, and service delivery). As discussed in this work, this theoretical foundation is capable of harmonizing a number of service perspectives found in the literature. Such theoretical foundation is specified in a well-founded core reference ontology, named UFO-S, which was designed by adopting a sound ontological engineering apparatus (mainly, a well-founded ontology representation language, OntoUML, and approaches of model verification and model validation). As a kind of theory, UFO-S was applied in the analysis of SoEA structuring principles in order to define a commitment-based SoEA view, which remarks social aspects inherent in service relations usually underexplored in widely adopted service-oriented approaches (such as SOA-RM by OASIS, ITIL, and ArchiMate). Based on this, UFO-S was also applied in an ontological analysis of service modeling at ArchiMates Business layer. Such ontological analysis showed some limitations concerned to semantic ambiguity and lack of expressiveness for representing service offerings (and type thereof) and service agreements in SoEA. In order to address these limitations, three service modeling patterns (service offering type pattern, service offering pattern, and service agreement pattern) were proposed taking as basis UFO-S. The usefulness of these patterns for addressing these limitations was evidentiated by means of an empirical evaluation. Finally, we can say that, beyond offering a broad and well-founded theoretical foundation for service able to harmonize service perspectives, UFO-S presented benefits as a reference model in the analysis of SoEA structuring principles, and in the (re)design of service modeling languages.

Factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the directorate of developmental social welfare services (DDSWS) in Namibia

The research project was aimed at exploring and describing the factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the Directorate of Developmental Social Welfare Services (DDSWS) in Namibia. The researcher was motivated to carry out this study due to the challenges experienced as a manager, working for DDSWS. In addition, the lack of literature on factors that influence job turnover of social workers motivated the researcher to conduct the study. This led to the research question of what are the factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the DDSWS in Namibia. A qualitative approach was adopted in this study and interviews were used to gather data about the factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the directorate of developmental social welfare services (DDSWS) in Namibia. A structured interview schedule and a dictaphone was used to collect data from 10 respondents who previously worked for DDSWS for the last five years, who were either male or female and based in the Khomas region. Suitable respondents for the study were selected by means of a purposive sampling method. An applied research was utilized as a means to determine and identify factors that influence job turnover of social workers because it focused on solving problems that are experienced in practice. The phenomenological research strategy was used because it understands and interprets the meaning that subjects give to their everyday lives. The researcher intended to identify and understand the factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the DDSWS from the respondents’ perspective. An overview of the structure and functions of DDSWS were discussed in Chapter 2 presenting the type of services the organization offers. A literature review on factors that influence job turnover was presented, which focused on the description of job turnover; the advantages and the disadvantages of job turnover; the type of job turnover; reasons for measuring job turnover; and job turnover costs. The factors that influence job turnover were divided into three sub-sections namely the personal, internal and external factors. The empirical findings indicated that all the respondents were influenced by a variety of factors to leave DDSWS. They identified the factors that influenced their decisions to leave as being low salaries, bad working conditions, lack of supervision, managerial support, promotional opportunities, training opportunities, job, selection and recruitment procedures, motivation, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, economic conditions, worthwhile and many others. The above factors that influence job turnover of social workers in the DDSWS in Namibia should be addressed to ensure that job turnover is maintained to a minimum. In addition, the study indicated that management has not realized the full implications of job turnover. In order to comprehend this, management should be aware of the factors that influence job turnover of social workers and devise a mechanism on how to keep job turnover to a minimum. Fizeram parte do estudo os municípios de Botucatu, Pratânia, Anhembi e Itatinga. A escolha dos municípios participantes foi aleatória, estratificada em função do número de habitantes. No total foram estudadas 14 unidades de atenção básica à saúde. A pesquisa constou de três fases, na primeira foram levantadas informações sobre a gestão dos serviços no nível das coordenações geral e das unidades participantes, incluindo a averiguação da cobertura das informações antropométricas; na segunda fase foi feita a avaliação da qualidade dos dados produzidos pelos serviços e; na terceira foram coletadas informações sobre o fluxo das informações antropométricas e o estágio de informatização de cada município. Os resultados mostraram que as unidades fazem uso muito restrito das informações antropométricas e desenvolvem poucas atividades de práticas educativas em alimentação, e esse fato foi atribuído, principalmente, à falta de profissionais da área de nutrição, falta de tempo e de estrutura física para as práticas. Todas as unidades de atenção básica pesquisadas dispõem de equipamentos para realizar a avaliação antropométrica, com exceção do estadiômetro adulto, o qual nenhuma unidade de saúde possui. As condições físicas de uso dos equipamentos também alcançaram índices satisfatórios, no entanto, as balanças de adultos e infantis não apresentaram condições adequadas de calibração. The second phase consisted of the evaluation of data quality produced by the services and in the third phase, information about the flow of anthropometric information as well as the level of computerization of each city was collected.The results showed that the units make very restricted use of the anthropometric information and develop few educational food activities, what was mainly attributed to the lack of nutrition professionals, time and physical structure for these activities. Investigando as políticas de assistência e proteção à infância : psicologia e ações do Estado / Investication about the infancy assistance and protection policies in Brazil

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Esta tese consiste em uma investigação bibliográfica e documental sobre as políticas de assistência e proteção à infância no Brasil. Com relação a esta questão, pesquisei fios de nossa história desde o período colonial até o final da chamada Era Vargas. Inicio este percurso histórico num momento em que o abandono de crianças não era considerado um problema, e funcionavam engrenagens de proteção por proximidade; caminho até os anos de 1930, quando médicos e juristas se mobilizam no sentido de organizar a assistência e a proteção ao menor de idade, contribuindo para a criação de outros modelos de atendimento à infância, baseados na assistência social e na proteção de Estado. Neste ponto, faço uma breve análise da chegada de Getúlio Vargas ao governo e de sua permanência nele até 1945. Em seguida discuto as mudanças ocorridas na estrutura das relações entre capital e trabalho na sociedade capitalista européia, quando o social se configurou enquanto um novo domínio de saber que possibilitou a emergência dos chamados profissionais do social, apontando similaridades com o processo ocorrido no Brasil durante a Era Vargas. A análise se foca, então, nos movimentos de criação e implementação de ações específicas para tratar da criança dita desassistida durante o Estado Novo, implementadas a partir do funcionamento de dois órgãos: o Departamento Nacional da Criança (DNCr) criado em 1940 para coordenar todas as atividades relativas a proteção à maternidade, à infância e à adolescência e o Serviço de Assistência a Menores (S.A.M.) criado em 1941 para superintender todo o serviço de amparo a menores desvalidos e delinqüentes, buscando sempre identificar que noções de psicologia que se faziam aí presentes. À guisa de conclusão, compartilho descobertas, encontros e desencontros proporcionados pela realização deste trabalho. / This thesis consists of a bibliographical and documental investigation about the infancy assistance and protection policies in Brazil. Related to this question, I researched historical lines since the colonial period up to the end of the so called Vargas Era. I start this historical course at the moment in which the children abandonment was not considered as a problem, and mechanisms worked as protection by proximity; I go back to the 1930s, when physicians and jurists mobilize themselves towards the underaged assistance and protection organization, which contributed to the creation of other attendance models, based on social assistance and on the State protection. At his point I make a concise analysis of Getúlio Vargas arrival at government and of his stay as president until 1945. Following this, I discuss the ocurred changes in the relationship structures between capital and work in the capitalist european society, when the social was configured as a new knowledge domain which allowed the emergence of the so caleed social professionals, pointing to similarities with the ocurred process in Brazil during the Vargas Era. Then, the analysis focuses itself in the creation and implementation movements of specific actions to treat the called not assisted child during the New State, implemented from the operation of two organs: the National Child Department (NCD) created in 1940 to coordinate all activities related to the protection of motherhood, infancy and adolescence and the Underaged Assistance Servic (UAS) created in 1941 to superintend all the services to assist unprotected underaged and delinquents , always searching to identify which psychology conceptions were present in both of them. As Conclusion, I share the foundings, encounters and discordances allowed by the realization of this work.

Unter dem Titel „Mein Traum von Bibliothek“ wird demnächst an der Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig eine Vortragsreihe für Bibliothekare starten. Thema ist der von uns allen erlebte rasante Wandel in der Mediennutzung durch digitale Technik. Die Aufgaben der Bibliothek ändern sich, die Tätigkeiten der Bibliothekare ändern sich, die Funktionen der Bibliotheksräume ändern sich. Das hat Konsequenzen für alle wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken, ins besondere für ein komplexes System wie das der UB Leipzig mit derzeit noch 19 Zweigbibliotheken. Welche Räume hat eine Bibliothek, wenn sowohl die Informationen wie die Wege dahin digital formatiert sind? Welcher Service sollte geboten werden?
