Om hemlöshet : Socialsekreterare om ett socialt problem i två kommuner / About homelessness : Social workers about a social problem in two municipalities

Ax, Victoria, Värnholm, Katarina January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was to illuminate how social workers in social services work with the social phenomenon, homelessness in two municipalities. The study is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with interviewees from a department of social services. Our theories that we used was resistant inequality, structural discrimination, exclusion, empowerment and representation. After compilation of our empirical our conclusions are that homelessness is a complex phenomenon. Social workers handles homelessness based on client’s needs and the work is individualized. There are no specific plans or guidelines. Homelessness is integrated in the organisation. The responsibility lies mainly on the individual to find housing. One other conclusion is that the landlords and housing are the largest affiliates to the social services regarding homelessness. The social workers work to prevent evictions by grants rent arrears because the housing market is the biggest problem. It’s a growing problem in both municipalities.

TEACHER EFFICACY, JOB SATISFACTION, AND ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION IN EARLY CAREER SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

Voris, Brenda C. 01 January 2011 (has links)
The number of special education students continues to rise, creating the need for additional special education teachers. Alternative certification programs have dealt with the special education teacher shortage, but not the question of teacher quality. Most teachers entering classrooms from alternative certification programs have little or no formal education in methodology or behavior management, but have commensurate responsibilities as their more experienced colleagues. The intent of this quantitative study was to examine 222 special education teachers’ sense of self-efficacy and job satisfaction in 21 central Kentucky school districts. The focus was the relation among special education teacher’s degree of efficacy in the early years of their careers (zero to five), degree of job satisfaction, and their certification type in special education (alternative vs. traditional). The secondary purpose was to examine the interrelation among teacher efficacy, number of years in the profession, degree of job satisfaction, gender, type of classroom, and area of certification in special education. The degree of teacher self-efficacy is linked to increased student outcomes and achievement, extent of planning, implementation of new ideas, enthusiasm, commitment, and increased patience with struggling students. The Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale was utilized to measure teacher efficacy. The Brayfield Rothe Job Satisfaction Index (1951) as modified by Warner (1973) was employed to measure the affective factors of job satisfaction. A demographic questionnaire developed by the researcher gathered information from the respondents. The study hypothesis assumed that teacher efficacy, specifically teacher self-efficacy, was lower in early career special education teachers who were pursuing or had recently completed certification through alternative programs. Analysis of the data indicates there is no significant difference between special education teachers who have completed alternative certification programs and their traditionally certified counterparts in terms of their degree of self-efficacy. Responses from the Job Satisfaction Survey indicated both groups of special education teachers are satisfied with their jobs.

Managing Employee Retention in Thailand : a quantitative study at a multinational company

Silfverberg, Marina, Magnusson, Louise January 2013 (has links)
We approached a multinational manufacturing company that wants to reduce its employee turnover among white collars workers. Thailand's current labour shortage requires an ability to retain employees and a quantitative survey is conducted to measure the perceived job satisfaction. Job Satisfaction is a key component in strive for employee retention. The study identifies and analyzes organizational reasons that contribute to job satisfaction and that can contribute to increased employee retention. By investigating perceived job satisfaction amongst white collar worker, aims the study to find factors that are central to employee retention and how the most central factors can be strengthen and developed by the organization. The study creates an understanding of the benefits of employee retention strategies and the results may support the organization in the development of these. The conclusion is that organizational effort within work design, leadership, social support; development, compensation & benefits, and work-life balance are essential for employee retention. The study indicates that employees‘ annual development, competitiveness within compensation & benefits and a leader that lives up to the employee's expectations have an influence on the perceived job satisfaction. A continuous effort to increase job satisfaction reduces employee desire of movement. The pros of staying and the risks of leaving the organization increases and the result is an increased opportunity for employee retention / Vi kom i kontakt med ett multinationellt tillverkningsföretag som vill minska sin personalomsättning bland tjänstemän.

Attractive Work : Nurses´ work in operating departments, and factors that make it attractive

Björn, Catrine January 2016 (has links)
Background: Previous studies show that nurse retention is one of the most effective strategies to counteract nursing shortages. Few studies have focused on the crucial resource of registered specialist nurses in operating departments. Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to gain knowledge on registered specialist nurses’ and assistant nurses’ work in operating departments and on what factors they consider to be important for attractive work. Methods: In Study I, operating room nurses were interviewed regarding their perspective on their work. In Studies II and III, specialist registered nurses and assistant nurses at operating departments in a Swedish county council responded to the Attractive Work Questionnaire. Study IV is a case study with interviews, a review of organisational goal documents and data concerning the number of planned, acute and cancelled operations. Findings: The adaption of the Attractive Work Questionnaire for nurses in operating departments was satisfying. The most important factors for attractive work were: Relationship, Leadership and Status. The factors with the largest discrepancies between their important to work attractiveness and their rating at the nurses’ current work were: Salary, Organisation and Physical Work Environment. It was important for nurses to be able to prepare for and be in control of the different work tasks. However, the daily operating schedule guided the nurses’ work, and changes in the schedule, nurse shortages and the design of the premises constituted obstacles to their work. Conclusion: The Attractive Work Questionnaire provided specific information to management on what to focus on to make work attractive. The majority of the identified attractive factors are already known to be of importance in nurse retention; however, factors requiring more investigation are Equipment, Physical Work Environment and Location (of the workplace). Their work prerequisites did not enable the specialist and assistant nurses to reach what they saw as their daily goals. Regularly occurring activities, such as acute and cancelled operations, were interpreted as obstacles to reaching daily goals.

Emergency Water Planning and the Issues with making Drinking Water Accessible for Everyone

Andreasson, My January 2018 (has links)
In Sweden, the access to drinking water is something that often is taken for granted. But several incidents where regions have found themselves without drinking water shows that we should be more concerned about crisis management concerning drinking water. Regulations state that even in a situation with drinking water disturbance the municipality is responsible for providing all citizens with drinking water of acceptable quality. When drinking water is not delivered in regular pipelines it is called emergency water, which is an alternative way to distribute drinking water within the region. During a crisis it is important that the authorities can act quickly in order to minimize the consequences that will occur if a region is without drinking water. The National Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) have therefore developed a guide for municipalities how to make an emergency water plan. It contains information of how to map and prioritize water users. This is a case study of Nordmaling Municipality that investigates how and why water users should be prioritized during a disturbance in drinking water. The aim has also been to locate emergency water containers for citizens and study the accessibility of these locations and the level of justice within the society connected to citizens (in)accessibility. In order to do this study, the guide from the National Food Agency have been studied along with consultation with the municipal administration. Then a quantitative Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) in GIS has been performed in order to find “optimal” locations for emergency water resources. Recommendations from the National Food Agency have been followed within the frame, ability and visions of Nordmaling Municipality. The study displays the functions that will obtain emergency water, and recommendations and regulations behind the decisions. Along with 12 different locations which have been decided based on results from the MCA. Water users (with extra consideration to vulnerable water users) living outside of the geographical “catchment-area” of a location with emergency water have been studied. This has shown that the locations are not accessible for everyone within the municipality. Constrained accessibility can be seen especially for elderly and those living in the sparsely parts of Nordmaling, which displays an unjust society.

Considering this scenario and together with the scarcity of good quality water, it has been stimulated the agricultural use of wastewater for production of vegetables as well as other agricultural crops. This work aimed at the evaluation of a treatment plant for gray water using ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the disinfection of effluents and the hydraulic performance of drippers using gray water. A plant for the treatment of gray water was constructed in the Monte Alegre I Settlement Project, municipality of Upanema, midwestern region of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and a reactor was equipped with ultraviolet lamps and installed in the Zoobotanical Park (PZO) of the Federal Rural University of the SemiArid Region (UFERSA), in Mossoró, state of Rio Grande do Norte. The treatment plant consisted of a passage box, a septic tank, an organic filter and a storage reservoir, and the artificial ultraviolet reactor was built in brick masonry in the dimensions of 1.08 m width, 1.18 m length and 0.40 m depth, containing two germicidal lamps (30 W, 254 nm). The treatments used to analyze the effect of UV radiation consisted of three slides (0.10 m, 0.20 m and 0.30 m) and five exposure times of (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 h). For evaluation of the treatment system, we collected samples of the effluents at different sites of the system and analyzed them for physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics; the effect of UV radiation was investigated through the decay of the microorganisms. Data were evaluated using parametric (univariate) and non-parametric (multivariate) statistics, according to the complexity of the data set. During the experimental period, the performance of the irrigation system was analyzed by means of the mean flow (Q), flow variation coefficient (CVQ), distribution uniformity coefficient (CUD) and statistical uniformity coefficient (Us). The treatment plant was efficient in removing most of the characteristics analyzed, since they were within the standards set forth by the current legislation. The evaluation of the irrigation system evidenced the development of a biofilm in the dripper as well as the presence of microorganisms. The radiation effect was satisfactory however the radiation dose has to be calculated to improve the efficiency of the treatment. The set a passage box, septic tank, organic filter and ultraviolet radiation reactor provide a degree of gray water treatment that allows the irrigation of vegetables through a drip irrigation system, but drip clogging control measures are required to ensure maximum performance / A inadequação dos sistemas de esgotamento sanitário no Brasil tem comprometido a saúde das populações rurais e urbanas e a qualidade do ambiente.

Temporary housing : A new product as student housing

Cong, Jinzhou January 2018 (has links)
Housing shortage is sweeping over Nordic countries, where college/university students has involved in this housing crisis. More innovative housing solutions are appealed to buffer housing shortage and supply affordable housing for students. The existence of module housing and container housing in a number of Nordic municipalities has come into being a new housing term: temporary housing. At the same time, students’ housing expenditure has influence on their financial strain, and students’ housing location affects student involvement on campus. The design of temporary housing aims to cope with housing shortage. This study intends to figure out an ideal temporary housing with a great rent in order to alleviate students’ financial strain, a good location so as to enhance the level of student involvement, and a satisfactory housing type for purpose of meeting students’ housing preference. To understand students’ view of temporary housing, Cockerham’s theory of health and lifestyle is applied to develop “living condition” in student group. A self-administered questionnaire in quantitative research is conducted, and with a case study element as well. The survey groups centers on college/university students so that this study is following a down-up perspective. Finally, based on students’ feelings and opinion, an ideal temporary housing is depicted as a new product in student housing. This ideal temporary housing is discussed in relation to variables, such as an acceptable rent, good housing location and pleasant housing type.

ABSTRACT This study is exploratory, multicase and was chosen the qualitative method, with the application of semi-structured interviews, document analysis and participant observation. The aim of this work was to study the conflicts in the relationship between franchisors and franchisees soteropolitanos in feeding areas, clothing and personal accessories and shoes. The choice of food segments, clothing and personal accessories and shoes, one should not only by their representative participation in generating value for retailers but also for concentrating large number of companies, including companies associated with ABF – Brazilian Franchising Association. From the identification of the most important points of conflict between franchisors and franchisees – candidate profile, financial, commercial and communication point –, we evaluated the practices adopted to minimize the impact of conflict and the contribution in stabilizing this relationship. The relationship between these two parties, although contractual and legal, is always being evaluated, becoming evident that the financial aspects are the most relevant. So much for the franchisor as for the franchisee, in the end, success is associated with the positive financial result of the enterprise's performance. Found in semi-structured interviews and participant observation the postulates of the theories of the Agency and Resource Shortage. The documentary analysis found the concern of franchisors to follow what determines the law for both contracts and for the COF - Franchise Offering Circular. From the confirmations of asymmetry factors, we propose ways to minimize conflicts in relations franchising system.

The factors influencing students’ career choices towards the accounting profession in Sweden

Yenge Massa, Noela, Karlsson, Per January 2018 (has links)
Purpose – This thesis aimed at investigating students’ beliefs influencing their personal attitudes and subjective norms not to choose the accounting profession by using the simplified Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) model. Theoretical framework – This study used the simplified TRA model to investigate the beliefs that influence students not to choose the accounting profession. From an accounting context, prior research has indicated that, there are intrinsic and extrinsic factors that determine the behavioural beliefs of students about the accounting profession. Likewise, normative beliefs are another construct of the simplified TRA model that influences students’ intentions towards the accounting profession. Methodology – Through a quantitative approach, questionnaires were sent electronically to first and second year students at five major universities in Sweden. In total, 323 students replied to the questionnaire. Since this study focused on students intending to choose business administration, non-business administration students were deleted from the sample giving an actual sample size of 228. The data collected was analyzed in two steps using multiple regression analysis. Findings – The findings of the study confirmed the simplified TRA model. The results showed that both behavioural and normative beliefs influenced students’ intentions not to choose the accounting profession. For behavioral beliefs, no personal interest in accounting, the belief that accounting is boring and the belief that other occupations (for instance, marketing and management) negatively influenced students’ attitudes not to choose the accounting profession. Similarly, for normative beliefs, teachers and peers influenced students’ subjective norms not to choose the accounting profession. Practical implications – The practical implications of this study are two-folded. Firstly, program directors at universities should engage in hiring qualified teachers in accounting, organize supportive activities to encourage students about the accounting profession. Also, program directors should include compulsory internships in the curriculum so that students can learn about the accounting profession. Secondly, former accounting students should get involved in the process of encouraging students about the accounting profession. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the existing literature by highlighting the beliefs influencing the personal attitudes and subjective norms of students not to choose the accounting profession. Therefore, the thesis provides an up-to-date theory about the TRA in the accounting profession in Sweden.
