No. of bitstreams: 1 Marcos Simoes de Carvalho.pdf: 1628234 bytes, checksum: a830e84a317ed3394eda9a3f2b2906f3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-03-31 / The objective of this study was to identify and adapt the best practices of project management to be applied in projects of social innovation in the healthcare area. The work that is characterized as an exploratory qualitative research, using in-depth interviews and confirmatory focus group as data collection techniques, consisted of searching the literature on sustainable development, social sustainability, social innovation and project management, for approaches through which the authors point out to gaps in the adoption of administrative and project management routines that increase the potential for success of activities related to social innovation. The results showed how the main factors that motivate the emergence of social innovation can be better managed based on the development of specific competence elements, consideration of the organizational elements, as well as the management of the procedural and operational elements, making the projects to adequately meet stakeholders' interests and expectations. The organization of the factors related to the management of social innovation projects in the healthcare area also resulted in the construction of a framework developed with the proposal of serving as an instrument for professionals working in this area. It is suggested, however, that future studies be done in other areas with high demand for services to be provided to the population, as well as investigate a greater number of cases using quantitative research methods. Considering that most of the literature on social innovation, to date, presents more considerations on the conceptual aspects of this construct, the present study brings as main contribution the possibility of research on the practical questions regarding the planning and execution of social innovation projects, whereas from the theoretical point of view the study contributes with a new approach that relates the discipline of project management with the phenomenon of social innovation, however, without intending as a work that exhausts the subject. The presentation of the framework as a practical tool for the management of social innovation projects is configured as a differential of the study, in addition to having been used as methodological procedure the accomplishment of a confirmatory focus group with professionals experienced in social projects as a way of validating the proposal of the model.

Edison Quirino D\'Amario 30 May 2018 (has links)
Como contribuição, esta tese amplia o entendimento sobre o empreendedorismo social, as inovações sociais que eles geram e, oferece aos pesquisadores, um instrumento de pesquisa validado / Innovation is a field of knowledge that has been widely discussed in the business literature. In this field, it can be understood as the creation of a new value and wealth for stakeholders. In this sense, the concept commonly designed for literature, discusses how it can create and capture new value for organizations and for customers through changes in one or more dimensions of the business system. These changes may occur in products, services or processes, among others. Although innovation has been more studied in the area of business, from the social impacts that they can promote, some scholars, using the same traditional innovation lens, began to investigate the innovations that had as purpose to achieve environmental goals. To this kind of innovation, it was added the term \"social\". As this area of knowledge is still incipient in the present literature, this study has the objective to deepen the knowledge about social innovation, the depth at which it occurs, the types found and its geographical occurrence. The fact that it is still a subject little studied, according to a systematic review of the literature, its understanding is still under construction. Therefore, to achieve this goal, it was necessary to develop a research instrument that was able to identify the depth, the types and geographical occurrence of social innovations generated by social entrepreneurships. We understand as social entrepreneurships, organizations for or non-profit that have as intentionality some social, environmental or socio-environmental purpose and the value creation. From the development of a scale to measure and map the social innovations generated by social enterprise, following all the necessary and essential criteria to the development of scales, with respect to its content validation, we applied it to 264 social entrepreneurships in in the 27 Confederate units of Brazil. For the psychometric validation of the research instrument, we did Exploratory and Confirmatory Factorial Analyses. The initial range, before the content and psychometric validation, had 53 items, and after the validations, it remained 23 items. These items measure the types of social innovation of product, organizational and marketing; the incremental, institutional, and disruptive depths and the geographical range. The results of the application of the scale indicates that the depth of social innovation that most stood out in the sample was disruptive. This finding indicates that these social entrepreneurships seek to identify systemic problems and develop transformational solutions to achieve their goals. Also incremental innovations and institutional were observed, however, with less intensity. With respect to the types of social innovations occurring in the sample, the social organizational innovations were the ones that stood out, followed by the social innovation of product and marketing. Process innovations did not reach levels of reliability that could participate in the analysis, and, for this reason, the variables to measure this kind of social innovation were excluded from the scale. Complementary analyses, including intersections of demographic data can be checked in the analysis of results. As a contribution, this thesis extends the understanding about social entrepreneurship, social innovations they generate and offers researchers, a validated instrument of research.

Diffusion of Social Innovations : A case study on Suspended Coffees Germany

Schümann, Luisa, Dzúriková, Andrea January 2017 (has links)
Despite the relevance of social innovations in the sustainable development, little is known about the drivers that help to spread them. Innovative ideas are developed to meet the needs of local communities and therefore often remain at a regional level; nevertheless, diffusion and scaling are necessary in order to lead to a societal change. This thesis analyses the case of Suspended Coffees, a successful diffusion of a social innovation in Germany. The research focuses on businesses adopting the social innovation to examine the drivers of diffusion. 24 interviews with business owners and two in-depth expert interviews with the German coordination body were conducted. The results illustrate (1) the existence of social needs, (2) the strong personal motivations of adopters, and (3) the compatibility of the innovation with adopting businesses and the social ecosystem, as main drivers of the diffusion. The study thereby expands the limited research in the field of the diffusion of social innovations.

Kindblad, Fabiola January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to understand within the field of IMER the importance that cultural workers at Dramalogen suggest that the use of aestethic culture – and drama – may have for the inclusion of cultural and ethnic groups, which run the risk of becoming marginalized in society. The research question focuses on the use of drama to highlight social problems concerning particular groups in local society. The methods employed were qualitative interviews, three participant observations and collection of documents. The empirical result shows that Dramalogen identify social changes and problems, from the standpoint of inclusive and democratic values, and use aesthetic culture and drama as a tool in an attempt to include cultural and ethnic groups, which risk to become marginalized. The analytical concept social exclusion and the dramaturgical theory of Goffman, were used to analyse the empirical material. The analysis suggests that their use of drama works as a mirror that reflects social problems, and - based on values of inclusion and democracy - also triggers a change in the public, although it is not possible to affirm within the study that this actually happens. The study also evaluate whether Dramalogens way of using aesthetic culture – and drama pedagogy – can be seen as a social innovation, and address the relevance for questions of revitalizing democracy.

Storytelling for intercultural dialogue: Experience design with unaccompanied minors from Afghanistan

Castillo Muñoz, Yénika January 2018 (has links)
This project explores storytelling tools for the collaborative work with persons in vulnerable situation, in this case, a group of unaccompanied minors from Afghanistan, living in Umeå, Sweden. The concept presented is the prototype of an eating experierence, BAHAM bolani: An idea for a social company where the participants are active into creating their own possibilities to stay in Sweden. With their own stories, they fill in the gap of how unaccompanied minors and asylum seekers are depicted in the dominant narrative. It is them providing meaning to the design concept. The theoretical approach is from a decolonising and feminist point of view, with collaborative design methods. In the discussion, I debate the need of more listening tools for the design community based on these theories, because they allow the designer to challenge their own cultural assumptions, and meet the participants in a more humble and equal way, especially when working with persons in vulnerable situations.

Community of Communities : Platform for political empowerment of permaculture groups

Veloso, Gelson January 2021 (has links)
This research investigates the potential of digital platforms to broaden the scope of action and empower permaculture communities in their attempt to challenge the capitalist mode of production regarding topics such as food harvesting and consumption patterns. It draws on Manzini’s (2018) critique of neoliberalism and his discussion on designing for social innovation, which suggests focusing on and enhancing existing members' capabilities rather than their needs; fostering cross-collaboration within and among communities; and allowing these collaborations to mature over time. It combines design thinking and co-design to develop further a previously existing proof of concept of a mapping platform that connects permaculture initiatives in Brazil. When it was created in 2018, this platform was tested by potential users who underscored severe usability limitations, and as a result, it was never fully implemented. This thesis discusses such limitations and proposes an improved platform to empower those communities by fostering collaboration beyond individuals and local groups towards regional communities.

Travailler autrement via l'économie sociale et solidaire : Le cas des coopératives d'activité et d'emploi / Working Differently via the Social Economy : The case of the Business and Employment Cooperatives

Boudes, Melissa 18 September 2017 (has links)
In a context of labor transformation and increased work precariousness, this thesis explains how new forms of work emerge, develop and respond to social needs and professional aspirations. The study focuses especially on social innovation based on the principles of the social economy. It uses a new institutionalist, processual, multi-level analysis of the Business and Employment Cooperative, a hybrid organizational form that combines the institutional logics of entrepreneurship, employment and cooperation. It (1) deepens understanding of the interactions between social innovation and its context; (2) highlights a new strategy at institutional logic level that can overcome the tensions inherent in hybrid organizational forms; and (3) explains how hybrid organizations can enable people to (re)find meaning in their work.

Cleaning up the Cycle : A Circular Partnership Case Study

Brugge, John, Schaller, Jonas January 2020 (has links)
Aim: The aim of this thesis is to describe possible steps of how circular partnerships can be formed, and how they can connect the different steps of a material loop, such as design and recycling. The focus of the empirical study within this thesis is the reconnection of recycling, design and production within the household goods industry. By this we will answer the following research question:“What are the rationales and circumstances needed for separate organizations to develop a sustainability-oriented innovative partnership in the context of the Circular Economy?” The Case: This research project is based on a case study of a collaboration between Stena Recycling AB, a Swedish recycling company, and Electrolux AB, a global appliances producer. Together those two companies formed a pilot project, called the “Infinity Project”, whose goal is to produce a vacuum cleaner which is made out of 100% post-consumer recycled materials, and is 100% recyclable. Methodology: The researchers participated in the meetings of the Infinity Project, and interviewed the people who were involved in the beginning of the collaboration. The research is done in an abductive process, as literature was analyzed that explained the findings made in our observations. From the theory and our findings we created a model, which helps explain the what, why, and how of Stena Recycling AB and Electrolux AB reconnecting recycling with design and production processes. Key findings: Through industrial symbiotic lenses and a corporate social innovation mindset the two companies recognized the enormous amount of waste as a problem of linear business models. With a mindset driven by corporate social innovation, they saw the potential of a collaboration in order to achieve a shared competitive advantage. By selecting each other as a partner for this circular economic collaboration, they identified how they could combine their respective knowledge and resources to reach their mutual goals. Through a long term strategic approach with a clear and shared vision, clear targets from the directing management, and a team with complementary skills, many program synergies have been realized, with potentially outsized successes for each organization. This setting also created an environment of trust and a common identity within the project, which was fundamental to create social innovation and to find successful ways to reconnect recycling with design and production. Additionally, the existence of the project within each organization seemed to function as a talent magnet, attracting like-minded sustainability-motivated talent who would best perform towards the goals of the project.

Umeå, Sweden; Becoming a Smart City : How can a city succesfully achieve transforming into a smart city?

Amador Vazquez, Cesar Ivan, Ruiz Maya, Paulina, Pereda Sparrowe, Regina January 2022 (has links)
While several authors have focused on the different components of smart city projects and practicalities for their development in large urban areas, despite the absence of a consensual definition of what a smart city is, limited attention has been given to the transformation process achieved by multi-actor relations derived from a sustained network of social innovation and collaboration in smaller cities. Focusing on the Swedish city of Umeå, this study focuses on answering the research question: How is the city of Umeå achieving a smart city transformation? For this purpose, this manuscript inductively examines the opinions and experience of several professionists and decision-makers involved in smart-city projects for a theoretical identification of the observed social phenomena allowing this sustained development. Hence, this work seeks to contribute with further literature development on successful projects to counter an identified problematic of unbalanced development strategies in urbanization projects that generate larger social inequalities as a result of lack of agreement between actors, design failure, policy mismatch and other limitations. This manuscript identifies Umeå’s current development as a best-practice in Sweden of a human-centric smart city project based on a Quadruple-Helix model for social innovation, heavily fostered into practice through citizen trust.
