Lycées en ville, villes au lycée. Les lycées innovants des villes nouvelles de la région parisienne au cours des années 1970 / High schools in city, cities in high school. Innovative high schools new towns in the Paris region in the 1970sZenouda, Sylvie 27 June 2013 (has links)
After a massive and industrialized period of school construction in France since the early 1960s, the architectural monotony and poor quality frames are challenged, circa 1970, while in new cities, developers are looking for different constructions or copies. The challenge is part of the binding administrative and budgetary framework of the Sixth Plan (1971-1975), but also a part of architectural research related to educational reform efforts. The first three schools built in new towns in the Paris region - in 1973, the integrated high school of les Sept Mares in Elancourt-Maurepas, in St-Quentin-en-Yvelines, in 1975, the high school of Parc des Loges with fitted out spaces, in Evry, in 1978 the high school Alfred Kastler, in Cergy-Pontoise, in front of the district prefecture - are breakthroughs in a renewed design school spaces. Particular attention is paid to the socio-cultural sector, the opening on the environment and the link between the city and the high school, promising project of social utopia in the Sept Mares, from 1975 to the late 1980s.

The adaptive reuse of lost and wasted spaces within the eThekwini Municipality : a case study of the Durban Esplanade and The Point .Gungaparsad, Kelvin. 21 October 2014 (has links)
This research study addresses the issues associated with lost and wasted urban spaces.
Lost and wasted spaces refer to areas which have no human activity or proper human
interaction. They are the leftover unstructured landscape at the base of buildings. They
also include abandoned buildings, waterfronts, train yards, vacated military sites, and
industrial complexes. The research outlines the causes of lost and wasted urban spaces
which occur within the eThekwini Municipality and urbanised spaces in general. Through
the use of case studies and precedent studies, the research study investigates the various
techniques, technological advances and approaches that could alleviate wasted spaces in
the city. The Durban Esplanade and Point Waterfront development constitute the main
case study areas; however, to fully understand how and why lost and wasted spaces occur
within the urban environment, various other spaces which make up the cityscape were
also investigated. For example, the city transport infrastructure and green spaces do not
form part of the case studies, but have been included as part of the research into lost and
wasted spaces.
The research study seeks to take the issue of lost and wasted urban spaces a step further
by combining it with issues related to sustainability. Through the use of the case studies,
various possible solutions and alternatives to the alleviation of lost and wasted urban
spaces are outlined and investigated. Examples of how lost and wasted urban spaces
could be transformed from problem areas to spaces of opportunity are also explored. This
was achieved by making use of computer-aided design and graphic illustrations to indicate
the possible solutions that could form part of a holistic approach to the issues surrounding
lost and wasted spaces in the built environment. The current planning legislation is
outlined in order to provide a thorough understanding of the interconnection between environmental and sustainability issues which relate directly to the cause of lost and
wasted spaces. Furthermore, the research study highlights the involvement of various built
environment disciplines, including planners, architects and urban designers and
investigates their role in the alleviation of lost and wasted urban space. / M.T.R.P. University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2012.

Unrecognized Pasts and Unforeseen Futures: Architecture and Postcolonialism in William Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! and The Sound and the FuryUnknown Date (has links)
This thesis examines the genesis, maintenance, and failure of rigid and
exclusionary societal models present in William Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County. Yi-
Fu Tuan's analysis of the concepts space and place serves as the foundational theoretical
framework by which human spatiality may be interpreted. Combining Tuan's
observations and architectural analysis with Edouard Glissant's concepts of atavistic and
composite societal models allows for a much broader consideration of various political
ideologies present in the South. Following this, it becomes necessary to apply a postcolonial lens to areas of Faulkner's literature to examine how these societal models
are upheld and the effects they have on characters in both Reconstruction and post-
Reconstruction eras. Within Absalom, Absalom! and The Sound and the Fury, Faulkner
showcases an aspect of southern history that allowed this societal model to flourish, how
this model affected those trapped within it, and its ultimate failure for future generations. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2017. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

[EN] It is intended to configure a type of planetary architecture whose conception is established around the pursuit of the astronaut's needs as a human being. When planning a planetary enclosure, we must then take into consideration how to combine the generation of positive stimuli to accompany an astronaut during an extended stay, the purpose of the enclosure above all as a shelter, and other factors related to the ideal development of human life inside the structure. These considerations then lead us to the humanization of space architecture as one of the goals proposed in this research. The idea is to promote the development of human activity in all of its possible forms, within the expectations that the scientific community has about the possible establishment of an extra-terrestrial human colony and try to demonstrate the capacity of planetary architecture once it has been thought out in service of the human condition. The aim is to establish criteria and guidelines for the projection and materialization of planetary habitats specifically intended for the purpose, among others, of contributing to keeping the astronauts in the best possible physical and emotional state during their stay for long periods of time inside those habitats, based on environmental comfort conditions such as lighting, thermal, acoustic, material, form and composition, and relationship with other spaces necessary for favourable development, as well as protection against external harmful agents. In this way, we seek the comfort and positive response of the astronaut's health, using planetary architecture to be considered in accordance with those aspects related to functionality, construction outside the terrestrial environment and even form. Once the architectural needs for the conformation of the habitat have been recorded, we consider the formal aspects related to the habitat, particularly the study of indigenous material and the location itself, highlighting the importance of geology in planetary architecture, given the implications of the lunar and Martian regolith in the natural habitats to be colonized. / Eid-Macheh Sánchez, Y. A reinterpretation of urban space in PretoriaVan der Klashorst, Elsa 2013 February 1900 (has links)
Various potential modes of interpreting the urban space in the inner city of Pretoria is evaluated in this study with the purpose of expanding discourse around spatial production in the city. Production of meaning through formal and structural means produced a city that served as administrative capital and ideological base for Afrikaners until the arrival of a democracy in 1994. The contemporary urban space is produced by people through everyday life, as theorised by Henry Lefebvre, rather than through formal means such as name changes. This study evaluates the way that identity and belonging is created by referring to everyday life practices, rhythmanalysis and daily activities as performances. Urban space is evaluated from a phenomenological perspective through the eyes of an artist and resident and expressed in an art exhibition. The way artists Julie Mehretu and Franz Ackermann dealt with urban space in their art is also referenced. / Art History, Visual Arts & Musicology / Master of Visual Arts
