This has been done to see if the care staff perceive the same thing, and in turn experience any possible help of visiting dogs. What emerged in this study is that most are in favor of visits dog and they're older. The majority of respondents agreed that their work situation has become neither better nor worse then visit the dogs started to meet caretakers. This may be due to visit the dog is not enough time on site at each visit. Even the fact that care staff are not practicing with the caretakers memory to get them to remain in the state of mind that research shows that the older gets in. These can have an impact on how care staff perceive a possible means in visits of the dog.

Rawson Lundgren, Emily, Lithammer, Charlotta January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore how managers of elderly care accommodations describes well-being for the elderly and the implementation of this. We interviewed eight managers of elderly care accommodations from a community in Sweden. A qualitative research method was used in the form of semi-structured interviews. The interviews were then transcribed and coded by content analysis. The results were analyzed based on previous research and different theoretical models explaining the concept of well-being. The managers that took part in this study described that well-being was mostly implemented by the care staff. The staffs are given courses about the guideline values for the care of elderly in special housing. This in accordance to the Social act law 5.kap §4 . The managers of elderly care also work together with their care staff to find ways to strengthen the elderly´s participation and decision making of their care. Our conclusion from this study is that the elderly’s decision making is easier to provide for those who have the physical and mentally strengthen for it. Those who haven’t got those abilities don’t get the chance to feel well-being, and the decision making and participation is then removed from the elderly to the care staff. One way to improve elderly’s well-being could be by expanding the care staff resources so that more individual time can be devoted for the elderly.

Game over or play it again and again. : participatory design approach within Special HousingTobiasson, Helena January 2010 (has links)

Activities that are fun, social, engaging and put something at stake are positive for your health no matter age or condition. What can you do if you suffer from dementia and are living at a Special Housing? According to research you should dance, visit the garden, get tactile massage discuss artworks etc. Still, despite all these proposals there are many voices from this domain, telling stories about living without live. Suffering from dementia may affect your ability to speak for your self and initiate activities. How can we know what they want and not what we think they need but they don’t seem to get or might not even want? Why don’t we ask them?We propose more focus on participation and design methods to guide the way.In this report, the author discusses the experience in conducting a Participatory Design research project intended to develop a technological and a related organizational intervention. The aim was to support people with dementia living in a Special Housing with fun and engaging activities. A short description of Participatory Design as an approach within research projects and a description of how it was used in this research study are given. We then discuss the experience in conducting the research, some of the users’ comments and responses, challenges, success stories and drawbacks when trying to design and test an activity in a readymade setting with fixed schema for several weeks ahead. The overall reflection being that Participatory Design has great potential for interventional projects and research focusing on leisure activities in everyday life for people with dementia. We proposes this being due to the two concepts – participation and design

Research shows that supportive conversations with elderly who are living in nursing homes isrequested among care personnel, this to satisfy both older people's mental health and socialhealth. The care personnel try to offer the elderly supportive conversation to the extent theyare able to, but they are experiencing obstacles in terms of shortage of time, ignorance and aperceived ambiguity in their profession. The purpose of present study is to describe andanalyze the phenomenon of supportive conversation with elderly living in nursing homes, based on care personnel’s perspective. The study is based on qualitative interviews with thecare personnel working in special housing. The result is analyzed from a phenomenologicalperspective with the lifeworld theory and domain theory as basis. Further on, research is usedto describe and analyze the phenomenon. The results show that care personnel feel that thereis a need for supportive conversation for older people in special housing. However, they don’thave the opportunities to offer this because of shortage of time, lack of knowledge andambiguity about what is included in their work as care personnel. This contributes to theexperienced stress among care personnel and the feeling of inadequacy in their professionalcapacity, which results in a sense of not having the ability to give the elderly a good care.

Arvidsson, Inger, Karastogianni, Vasiliki January 2009 (has links)

Today older people’s health and life quality are current topics of conversation in society. The number of old people is increasing and their health is deteriorating, that is why there is a need of new ways of meeting their necessities. In this study we have tried to illustrate heads of districts reasoning concerning pets’ significance for old people in special housing. The purpose of the study is to investigate the management’s awareness and preparedness around and also management of pets in special housing in a county. We have also had a look at the practical work with pets in special housing. The material in the study comes from qualitative interviews. One geriatric care manager and six heads of districts with the responsibility of special housing for old people under municipal management have been interviewed. In our interpretation we have used Brülde’s theory (2003) of life quality called “a mixed theory of happy character”. Brülde combines elements from hedonism, the theory of fulfillment of wishes and from the objective pluralism to make his own theory. The result from the study shows that all heads of districts are positive to have pets in special housing and that all special housing has or has had pets in some form. The contact with pets gives many old people a better life quality with happiness, an increased well-being and decreases the sense of loneliness.
