The purpose of this research was to study job satisfaction among public school library media specialists based on the psychological needs of social needs, security needs, esteem needs, autonomy needs, and self actualization needs, according to Maslow's Hierarchy. Subjects were requested to respond to a questionnaire of 30 items pertaining to job satisfaction. Each item required two responses: first, as to the level of importance the item held; and secondly, the satisfaction currently received from that particular item.

Adolescent Academic Adjustment during Chronic Illness: Online Training for Child Life Specialists

Frequent absences resulting from a chronic illness can disrupt adolescent school involvement, impacting academic achievement and psychosocial development as a result. This study explores whether certified child life specialists (CCLSs) could be a resource for parents as they address their adolescents' academic disruptions. Specifically, this study assesses an online training program designed to increase CCLSs' knowledge and self-efficacy as related to adolescents' academic adjustment following frequent absences. This knowledge and skill based training was designed as a three part module with sections including: academic considerations, psychosocial considerations, and availability of school resources in promoting successful adolescent academic adjustment. 62 CCLSs were recruited to participate and complete measures evaluating knowledge, in relation to content included in each module, and self-efficacy, involving communication with parents in regards to adolescent academic adjustment. T-tests were conducted to determine whether there were differences in reports of self-efficacy and knowledge following participation in the intervention between and within the treatment and control groups. Results indicate statistical significance for enhanced knowledge and self-efficacy for the treatment group at post-test. Therefore, the outcomes from this study support the effectiveness of brief online training in fostering knowledge and feelings of efficacy for CCLSs in a context not typically included in child life education or certification. As a result, findings from this study may be used to expand intervention programs in the clinical setting to provide more comprehensive psychosocial care to adolescents diagnosed with a chronic illness.

Sifa-Portfolio – a Continuing Education Concept for Specialists on Industrial Safety Combining Formal and Informal Learning

Purpose – Specialists on industrial safety (Sifas) are appointed by companies due to German occupational safety act (ASiG) as safety advisors, to analyse the work environments and the work procedures. Their principal task is to inspect workplaces for adherence to regulations on health, safety and environment, and design actions to prevent from disease or injury of workers and environmental damages. Due to variety of settings in which work safety specialists are involved, they are obliged to continuous further education and permanent adoption to changing circumstances of occupational context. To do so, Sifa’s need access to tools which provide the following three key features: - possibility to share knowledge with experienced specialists on industrial safety (Sifa-Community), - ability to promptly recognize critical topics in the field of their activities (Trend- Monitoring), - opportunity to create track of records of further education on current topics, including the validation and certification of work-related informal learning (Sifa-Portfolio). Sifa-Portfolio and Trend-Monitoring are based on Sifa-Community, an exchange platform (www.sifa-community.de) with currently 5.000 members established in the context of a longitudinal study on Sifas. This paper will focuses on the concept of Sifa-Portfolio that was developed as a prototype of further education application based on the concept of EPortfolios. It allows Sifa’s to share their knowledge, recognize critical topics and create track of records of their informal further education to showcase their competencies and eventually receive certification. Design/methodology/approach – In the paper authors present the approach of Sifa- Portfolio - an application for further education, based on Sifa long-term study (Sifa- Langzeitstudie), data mining (text mining), and user centred design. It starts with the description of results of an online study and specific requirements that have to be considered when designing applications for specialists on industrial safety. It then presents the trend monitor based on Sifa-Community posts, which provides up to date information about most important topics that are being discussed within the community. It finally introduces Sifa-Portfolio, a high fidelity prototype of an expansion module for Sifa-Community. Originality/value – Until now, there are no dedicated solutions for further education of professional group of Sifas, which comply to the specific requirements of this group and which enable to react promptly to changing demands of the safety issues in dynamicly growing companies. Practical implications – The presented approach delivers a concept of a softwaremodule that could be implemented into Sifa-Community Forum. Due to evaluation with users, we could identify requirements and specifications of Sifa-Portfolio. Furthermore this concept can be transferred to variety of professional-groups, which are working in dynamic professions to support their work-related informal further education.

Во второй главе выявлено отношение сотрудников и детей-инвалидов к внедрению программы сопровождаемого проживания на базе их учреждения, а так же их желании стать наставником у ребенка- инвалида при реализации программы сопровождаемого проживания и желании пройти обучение, по внедрению программы сопровождаемое проживание. Проведена оценка уровня самообслуживания у детей-инвалидов и уровня обладания бытовыми навыками для самостоятельного проживания; проведены интервью с сотрудниками детского дома и с получателями социальных услуг, детьми-инвалидами. / The first chapter presents the characteristics of consumers of the assisted living program; describes the organization of the assisted living program for children with mental disabilities; problems of implementing the assisted living program in social service institutions. The second chapter reveals the attitude of employees and children with disabilities to the implementation of the assisted living program at their institution, as well as their desire to become a mentor to a disabled child during the implementation of the assisted living program and their desire to undergo training on the implementation of the assisted living program. The assessment of the level of self-service among children with disabilities and the level of possession of household skills for independent living was carried out; interviews were conducted with employees of the orphanage and with recipients of social services, children with disabilities.

Föräldrars erfarenheter av transition från neonatalvårdavdelning till hemmet : En litteraturstudie / Parents’ experiences of transition from neonatal care unit to home : A literature review

Bakgrund: Ett barn kan behöva vård på NVA av olika anledningar. För att familjen ska känna trygghet inför transitionen till hemmet krävs god planering och samverkan i hela vårdkedjan, från NVA till BHV. Det skapar förutsättning för att främja hälsa hos familjen. Föräldrar är med stöd av specialistsjuksköterskan viktiga för barnets utveckling och välbefinnande. Tidigare forskning visar att föräldrar som är delaktiga i sitt barns omvårdnad blir trygga att själva vårda barnet vilket stärker anknytningen och kan leda till en kortare vårdtid på NVA. Specialistsjuksköterskan är den som har kunskap om transitionens innebördoch kan anpassa stöd efter familjens behov för att bibehålla hälsa. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva föräldrars erfarenheter av transition från neonatal vårdavdelning till hemmet. Metod: En scoping review som analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Tre huvudteman framkom; Utskrivningens betydelse för framtiden, En förändrad livsvärld och Föräldrars behov. Det första temat består av tre subteman; Att känna glädje och oro inför hemgång som belyser föräldrars ambivalenta känslor kopplade till transition till hemmet och vikten av kompetent vårdpersonal för att föräldrar ska känna trygghet. Att inte känna sig inkluderad som pappa visar på pappors känslor av att inte bli inkluderade i sitt barns vård som gör att de upplever en svårighet att stötta sin partner och barn. Att förbättra transitionen till hemmet belyser föräldrars olika perspektiv av förberedelse inför transition. Det andra temat innehåller tre subteman; Att vara i sin hemmiljö beskriver föräldrars erfarenheter av att komma hem med sitt barn. Att få nya perspektiv på livet belyser föräldrars upplevelse av att bli föräldrar först när barnet kommer hem men också upplevelser av att kunna leva vidare efter transitionen. Att vilja skydda barnet innehåller upplevelser och erfarenheter av att skapa en vardag med barnet. I det tredje temat framkom två subteman; Att få stöd i sin föräldraroll beskriver olika former av stöd som föräldrar upplever i transitionen och Strategier för att hantera situationen tar upp metoder som föräldrar fann stöd genom. Slutsats: Det kan innebära en stor utmaning för föräldrar att få ett barn som behöver vård på NVA. Transitionen till hemmet behöver förberedelse. Föräldrar upplevde trygghet och kände mindre ambivalens när de fick stöd och vägledning från vårdpersonal. Föräldrar som gjorts delaktiga i sitt barns omvård på NVA kunde uppleva transitionen mer glädjefylld än de som inte fått den erfarenheten. Specialistsjuksköterskan har en viktig roll i att underlätta transitionen för föräldrar för att de ska känna sig trygga och säkra i att själva vårda barnet hemma. Ytterligare kompetens och stöd från specialistsjuksköterskan behövs för att transitionen ska upplevas trygg och säker för föräldrar. / Background: There can be various reasons for a child needing care in neonatal care unit. Forthe family to feel secure before the transition to home, good planning and cooperation is required throughout the continuity of patientcare, from neonatal care unit to children healthcare services. It creates conditions for promoting health in the family. Parents, with the support of the nurse specialist, are important for the child’s development and well-being. Previous research shows that parents who are involved in their child’s care become confident in caring for the child themselves, which strengthens the connection and can lead to a shorter period of care at the neonatal care unit. The nurse specialist is the one who has knowledge of the meaning of the transition and can adapt support to the family’s needs to maintain health. Aim: The aim was to describe parents’ experiences of the transition from neonatal care unit to home. Method: A scoping review that was analysed with qualitative content analysis. Results: Three main themes emerged in the result; The importance of the transition, A changed life world and Parents’needs. The first theme consists of three subthemes; Feeling joy and anxiety before going homewhich highlights parent’s ambivalent feelings connected to the transition home and the importance of competent healthcare professionals for parents to feel security. Not feeling included as a father shows fathers’ feelings of not being included in their child’s care, which makes them experience difficulty in supporting their partners and child. Improving the transition to the home highlights parents’ different perspectives of preparation for transition.The second theme contains three subthemes; Being in their home environment describes parents’ experiences of coming home with their child. Gaining new perspectives in lifehighlights parents’ experiences of becoming parents when the child comes home, but also experiences of being able to continue living after the transition. Wanting to protect the childincludes experiences and perspectives of creating a daily life with the child. In the third theme, two subthemes emerged; Getting support in the parental role describes different types of support that parents experience during the transition and Strategies to handle the situationexplain methods that parents found support through. Conclusion: It might imply a great challenge when parents get a child in need of care at neonatal care unit. The transition to home needs preparation. Parents experienced security and felt less ambivalence when they get through nursing staff got support and guidance. Parents who been involved in their child’s care in the neonatal care unit experienced the transition more joyous than parents who was not involved. The nurse specialist has an important role in facilitating the transition. To make the parents secure and safe taking care of their child at home. Further competence of parents’experiences requires in both neonatal care units and in child health services.

An analysis of business interventions and their effect on the perceived success of South African small and medium enterprises

A prestudy by the author of the assistance available to small business owners in South Africa revealed that although much assistance is available, many small businesses still fail. The question that arose was whether small business owners are receiving the proper assistance in respect of the right functional areas of the business, for the appropriate duration, at the right stage of the business life cycle and by the right people. Taking all these issues into account, the main purpose of this study was to determine what types of business interventions have the greatest impact on the success of entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprise owners. The literature study includes the history of small business development in South Africa and the interventions that have taken place in this and other countries. It also provides a definition of a successful small business and the generic business needs of small business owners. The sample used in this study was drawn from the members of the Confederation of Employers of South Africa (Cofesa). The research findings of this study are reliable for the SME owners who are members of Cofesa. The Cofesa group is not representative with regards to demographics, location, economic sectors or qualifications of South African SMEs. The following are some of the findings of the study of successful small business owners: * They generally make use of assistance in the areas of finance, marketing and human resources. * Most of them make use of assistance on a continuous basis during all the stages of the business life cycle, suggesting the way forward for aspirant business owners who should start making use of assistance even before starting their businesses. * Consultants or business specialists are mainly used for assistance. * More than two-thirds of the business owners thought that their businesses were more successful after they had received assistance. * The assistance was neither the cause of failure nor was it the main cause of their success. Assistance is a contributing factor to success but not the main reason for it. The success of a SME will depend mainly on other factors such as type of product, product quality and marketing. Assistance, however, proves vital and should first be provided for the areas as identified by the respondents in this study (mainly finance, marketing and human resources). / Business Management / D.
