An Investigation of the Relationship between Work Value Congruence in a Dyad and Organizational Commitment as Mediated by Organizational Influences

Dale, Kathleen M. (Kathleen Marie) 05 1900 (has links)
Researchers suggest that value congruence in superior-subordinate dyads results in positive outcomes for an organization (Kemelgor, 1980; Meglino, Ravlin, & Adkins, 1989; 1990; Parkington & Schneider, 1979; Senger, 1971; Weeks, Chonko, Kahle, 1989). Further, evidence is presented which suggests that commitment at the organizational level is achieved, in part, through value congruence at the individual level of analysis. Analysis at the individual level reflects the effect of shared values on interpersonal relations. Work value congruence in a dyad enhances the development of a high quality dyadic relationship. The subordinate in such a relationship perceives being allowed more participation in decision making, more positive work experiences, and less role stress (Turban & Jones, 1988). These items have been found to be predictor variables of commitment from Steer's (1977) framework of antecedents. In this study, a research model was proposed which suggests that work value congruence in the subordinate-superior dyad leads to organizational commitment through its effect on subordinate perceptions of role stress characteristics, participation, and work experiences. The model integrates the organizational aspects of the Steer's (1977) framework for organizational commitment with the interpersonal effect of work value congruence. A field study design using a sample of 96 subordinate-superior dyads at a large Midwestern manufacturing corporation was used for the study. The influence of dyadic work value congruence on organizational commitment as mediated by subordinate perceptions of role stress, participation, and initiation structure/consideration were tested using hierarchical regression. The results of the study indicate that value congruence has a direct influence on OC rather than being mediated by perceptions of role stress characteristics, participation in decision making, and work experiences as predicted in the proposed model. Role stress characteristics and participation in decision making were also found to directly influence levels of OC, however, support was not found for the positive influence of work experiences.

Effect of Upward Feedback on the Gap Between Manager and Subordinate Perception of Manager Behavior

Zetterquist, Jessica Beesley 24 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Objective: To assess the effect of upward feedback on the perception gap of manager-rated and subordinate-rated managerial behavior scores using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Design: Phase I questionnaires assessed the use of upward (subordinate to manager) feedback and were used to form Feedback and Comparison groups. Phase II questionnaires included feedback, attitudinal, and demographic questions and the MLQ. MLQ scores were compared between the two groups. Subjects/setting: Directors of Food and Nutrition Services and Clinical Nutrition Managers and their respective subordinates in a hospital setting. Statistical analyses performed: General Linear Model (using SAS Version 9.2, Cary, NC) was used to determine the relationships between MLQ scores and questions of interest. Results: Upward feedback practices in both the Feedback and Communication groups did not correspond to the Phase I reports. Feedback managers did not have higher MLQ scores based on feedback group, manager tenure, and manager implementation of feedback. Managers whose subordinates who enjoyed their jobs had higher subordinate-rated MLQ scores. Conclusions: Policies and practices of upward evaluation methods are not clear and need to be studied further in a hospital dietetics setting.

The constitution of the subordinate government of Santa Catarina Island, from 1738 to 1807: its juridical-political statute and its dimentions

Silva, Augusto da 07 March 2008 (has links)
This work has as the purpose to understand the constitution of the subordinate government of Santa Catarina Island, from 1738 to 1807, its juridical-political statute and its dimentions, in the context of consolidation of the Portuguese Empire in the south of Southern America. It is also sought to verify the trajectory and the social and military profiles of the individuals named to govern the Island and to move forward in the understanding of the attributions and limits of jurisdiction of the subordinate governor\"s position in the south of Brazil. Analyzing the governamental practice aspects, it is still intended to notice how those oficials led and equationated the determinations passed through the Portuguese Court with the demands and pressures of the local society.

The Processability theory : A study about Finnish students’ use of the possessive personal pronouns, the possessive reflexive pronouns and the placement of the Swedish negation in subordinate clauses

Järvinen, Sivi January 2016 (has links)
This essay aims to explain Finnish students’ acquisition of Swedish as a second language: the focal point is the learners’ use of the possessive personal pronouns (hennes, hans and deras) and the possessive reflexive pronouns (sin, sitt and sina), and the placement of the Swedish negation in subordinate clauses. The theoretical background for the analysis of these linguistic structures is the Processability theory. This thesis suggests that the pronouns, which have not been earlier investigated through the Processability theory, are a part of the stage 4 of the theory, whilst the placement of negation in subordinate clauses is part of the stage 5. The basis for this thesis is a survey made in a secondary school in the north of Sweden and an upper secondary school in the north of Finland in autumn 2016. In other words two different groups of students have participated in the survey: one group studying Swedish as a second language in Sweden and one group studying Swedish as a foreign language in Finland. The analysis shows no linguistic differences between these two groups and for this reason there is no distinction made between them. The results reveal that the possessive personal pronouns are slightly more overused than the possessive reflexive pronouns. However, the results show that those students who have not commenced to process level 4 have not either began to process level 5. The learners’ utilization of the negation placement suggests that they first learn the preverbal placement of the negation in a main verb and afterwards the preverbal placement of a negation in an auxiliary verb. The results and conclusions given in this essay may be of some interest for other teachers and educational researchers.

Novíssima dependência : a subordinação brasileira ao imperialismo no contexto do capitalismo financeirizado /

Castro, Lucas Crivelenti e January 2019 (has links)
Abstract: This dissertation analyzes the subordinate insertion of Brazil in the period of financialization, whose basis of study focuses on the internal and external aspects of the structure and relations of Brazilian dependent capitalism. Therefore, before interpreting the current dependency paradigm, we seek to identify the political and economic relations between hegemonic and peripheral countries. Thus, firstly, we seek to analyze the rise, consolidation and materialization of imperialism, from the analysis of the phenomenon performed by the classical authors to the contemporary debate. Secondly, we seek to conceptualize the historical issue of dependence and how it appears in Brazil's domestic and foreign relations with advanced capitalist countries, especially the United States. Finally, we have studied the structure of the country's subordinate insertion to globalized finance, especially with regard to trade liberalization, financial liberalization, economic policies of liberal bias and changes in the country's regulatory civil framework. / Mestre

The Impact of Supervisor-Subordinate Exchange on State Government Employees

Zimmerman, Jeffrey R. 01 January 2015 (has links)
Interactions such as task assignments and communications between supervisors and subordinates have unintended negative consequences on subordinates such as alienation of subordinates that are not members of the 'in' group. These relations are determined by the quality of the leader-member exchange (LMX) between supervisor and subordinate. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of supervisor-subordinate exchange on state government employees by understanding the essence of these exchanges in state government agencies. The theoretical foundation of this phenomenological study was Graen and Uhl-Bien's conceptualization of LMX. Data were collected through 12 semi structured interviews with subordinates from the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Driver's License Section. This group of employees from the NC DMV were selected because of the geographical convenience to conduct interviews with participants. Supervisors were not interviewed for this study because the focus was the perceived effect on the employees' performance, motivation, and attitudes. The data were coded and analyzed using a modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method. The results of this study supported that supervisor-subordinate exchanges can influence subsequent behaviors in government employees. This study may have future policy implications in that the results can be used to influence new policy or revise current policies concerning supervisor training within local, state, and federal government agencies. Organizations that comprehend how and why supervisor-subordinate exchanges impact them can revise training for both management and employees, improve communication and relationship skills, and reduce negative effects from these exchanges to promote positive social change.

Grammatisk finithet i trumaí

Börstell, Carl January 2008 (has links)

Distribution of FABP7 in Neural Tissue of Socially Defeated Adult Anolis Carolinensis

Cañete, Carmenada L. 06 May 2012 (has links)
Due to its significance in many cellular functions, fatty acid binding protein 7 (FABP7) has become a rising topic of interest for many scientists. Immunocytochemistry was used to map the distribution of FABP7 and test whether the amount of FABP7 immunoreactivity (FABP7-IR) differed in animals that were defeated in a fight, as compared to control animals that did not engage in any social interaction. The male green anole was used as the subject because its natural tendency to establish social classes within its species provides an ideal model to observe for variation in FABP7-IR. The results showed FABP7-IR in cells and fibers of the cortex, hypothalamus, thalamus, medial preoptic area, dorsoventricular ridge, amygdala, suprachiasmatic nucleus, nucleus accumbens, nucleus rotundus, habenular area, tectum, dorsal noradrenergic and lateral forebrain bundles, and lining the third and lateral ventricles. Qualitative observation suggested higher FABP7 levels in socially defeated males than controls in all areas.

Second language acquisition of Japanese wh-constructions

Umeda, Mari January 2008 (has links)
Note: / This dissertation investigates the second language (L2) acquisition of Japanese wh-constructions by Chinese- and English-speaking learners. The focus of this study is twofold; first, it examines whether parameter resetting is possible in L2 acquisition, as both Chinese and English wh-constructions are parametrically different from Japanese wh-constructions. Second, it examines whether parameter resetting is affected by the learners' first language (Ll). Not only do Chinese and English wh-constructions differ from Japanese wh-constructions, but they also differ from each other. Chinese is, like Japanese, a wh-in-situ language, while English is a wh-movement language. Chinese wh-constructions, therefore, can be said to be more similar to Japanese wh-constructions than English wh-constructions. It is investigated whether the similarity between Chinese and Japanese and dissimilarity between English and Japanese affect the course and/or the ultimate attainment in the acquisition ofwh-constructions in Japanese.[...]
