Tvorba deminutiv a augmentativ v současné francouzštině / Creation of Diminutives and Augmentatives in the Present-Day French

HRUŠKOVÁ, Hana January 2011 (has links)
This thesis deals with the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in the present-day French. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part there are explained the basic notions, such as: word, word formation processes, especially the derivation. Then the list of all augmentative and diminutive French suffixes is given. The practical part consists of two parts. At first there are presented all the French words ending with the diminutive and augmentative suffixes, found in the French electronic dictionary Le Petit Robert. Then, there is a research made in a parallel language corpus Intercorp. This research is based on the comparison of the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in French and in Czech. The aim is to introduce the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in French and then compare it with the Czech language.

Deminutiva ve španělské dětské literatuře / Diminutives in Spanish Children´s Literature

UNGERMANOVÁ, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
The goal of my diploma thesis is the detail analysis of the usage of diminutives in the Spanish literature, including the characteristics of their meaning and function. The theoretical part of my thesis is consisted of the basic information concerning this morphological phenomenon and its creation, function and interpretation in the text. It also includes definition of the children´s literature and various views on this subcategory of literature. There is mentioned the history of the children´s literature too, together with its evolution and literary performance. I pay special attention to linguistic features which appear in the children´s literature. The practical part is consisted of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of three books for children: Manolito on the Road, El príncipe que todo lo aprendió en los libros and El Conde Lucanor. The goal of this part of my thesis is the comparison of several linguistic approaches towards this morphological phenomenon. I also aim to determine eventual difference in frequency of using of different types of diminutive suffix, both from the diachronical and differential point of view. Last but not least, there is a qualitative analysis which elaborates individual contextual functions of diminutive suffix.

Accentuation et prononciation des suffixés en -ous en anglais contemporain. / Word stress assignment and pronunciation of words suffixed with -ous in contemporary english

Fournier, Pierre 08 December 2011 (has links)
The influence of the suffix -ous on the English phonological system is considerable. Its impact is materialized on word-stress assignment, as well as on the phonetic realisation of stressed vowels. The study of this particular suffix generates a global perspective on the functioning of the English system since -ous is a blend of the fundamental principles which rule the English stress system. This analysis falls within the framework of the morphophonological theory, which favours an interaction between the morphological and phonological levels. The concept of morphological boundary is essential to the operation of word-stress assignment and represents a key-notion inside this theoretical framework. However, the impact of the suffix -ous on word-stress assignment and on the pronunciation of stressed vowels has already been investigated through several theoretical approaches. The most significant results of these previous studies are expounded in the theoretical part. The phonological frameworks are then compared in order to determine their assets and their drawbacks. Word-stress assignment only represents the first side of this work. Indeed, the assignment of primary stress on the syllabic structure of a word has a consequence on the phonetic realisation of stressed vowels. They are "fully" realised, and the succession of stressed and unstressed syllabes creates the notion of rythm in English. Resorting to spelling enables to predict the pronunciation of stressed vowels through the application of a hierarchical system of rules. These rules, elaborated on the particularities of English spelling, operate a transfer from spelling to sounds......

Une étude diachronique du suffixe -ard : un examen du sens de quelques mots médiévaux / A Diachronic Study of the Suffix -ard : A Study of the Meaning of Selected Medieval Words

Erbén, Tova January 2017 (has links)
This study examines the supposedly pejorative nature of the Germanic derived suffix -ard in French medieval words and their contemporary counterparts. The author looks at the words used in medieval writings available in the online database Frantext Moyen Français, which features texts dating from the year 1330 to 1502. The study reveals that while a large portion of the words ending in -ard in this database can be considered pejorative, a group of words does not carry this connotation, such as words referring to colours or objects. Some words were pejorative in Old French but have lost this connotation over time, while others have disappeared only to reappear centuries later with new meanings. The study also shows that -ard was used to form many types of words – nouns, verbs and adjectives – which take their derivation from several different languages (e.g. Latin, Dutch, Spanish etc.). Sometimes it also seems to appear without any obvious reason, for example when it replaces an already existing suffix. Because of the changeable nature of language, words carrying the ending -ard must be examined in the context in which they occur in order to be properly understood.

Applications of and Algorithms for Genome Assembly and Genomic Analyses with an Emphasis on Marine Teleosts

Pickett, Brandon D. 27 May 2021 (has links)
The burgeoning frequency of genome sequencing in recent years is a testament to both the improvements in sequencing technologies and the utility of genomic analyses for biological discovery. The rapid proliferation in technological advancements and availability of complementary data types and techniques has obfuscated the optimal process of genome assembly and raised the barrier to entry to unprecedented levels. In this dissertation, we describe the genome assemblies performed for several marine teleosts and discuss the algorithms and applications required for genome assembly, including some of our specific contributions to the genome assembly and annotation space. In Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, we review the taxonomy, life history, and biogeography of the Roundjaw Bonefish (Albula glossodonta) and describe its genome assembly. The genome assemblies with some analyses are described for the Bluefin (Caranx melampygus) and Giant (Caranx ignobilis) Trevallies in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, respectively. Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 define and assess algorithms for the annotation of simple sequence repeats in genomic sequences. Publicly available annotations of carbapenem-resistance plasmids were epidemiologically analyzed in Chapter 7. The resiliency of phylogenetic trees to the removal of taxa is explored with a new nodal stability metric and algorithm, TANOS, in Chapter 8. Finally, in Chapter 9, a review of and commentary on vertebrate genome assembly is presented with recommendations for new projects. The aim of this dissertation, and the final chapter in particular, is to explore genome assembly methods and reduce the barrier to entry for new entrants.

以非派生和派生之優選理論來分析臺灣閩南語仔前變調以及暱稱仔詞綴變調 / The pre-a1 tone change and hypocoristic -a2 suffix tone change in Taiwan southern min: a parallel and serial OT analysis

陳元翔, Chen, Yuan-hsiang Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis attempts to analyze the pre-a1 tone change and hypocoristic -a2 suffix tone change in Taiwan Southern Min from the perspective of Optimality Theory and Harmonic Serialism, a derivational version of Classic OT. Classic OT, which implements parallelism, explicates the tone change phenomenon in one-step fashion. The two tonal variants of the pre-a1 and -a2 syllables can be accounted for through the constraint re-ranking in Cophonology Theory. The interaction between SHARE (t) and NOLONG (t) determines whether the terminal toneme will perform spreading in the pre-a1 tone change. In the -a2 suffix tone change, the interaction amongst SHARE, NOLONG and TONAL MARKEDNESS determines whether -a2 will receive a tone spread from the neighboring TBU or associate with a default L. Harmonic Serialism, which assumes harmonic improvement over the course of serial derivation, provides an alternative treatment for the pre-a1 tone change and -a2 suffix tone change. In Harmonic Serialism, the pre-a1 tonal alternation proceeds with three steps, viz. regular tone sandhi, register spreading and terminal toneme spreading. -a2 suffix tone change also requires three steps in terms of Harmonic Serialism, that is, featureless tone insertion in the first step; register spreading or low register insertion in the second step; and toneme spreading or low tonal feature insertion in the final step. Likewise, the ranking conditions between SHARE (t) and NOLONG (t) predict whether toneme will spread in the pre-a1 tone change. In the -a2 suffix tone change, the alternative rankings among SHARE, NOLONG, TONAL MARKEDNESS and REGISTER MARKEDNESS decide the application of tone spreading or default L insertion.
