In the global business environment, outsourcing and offshore outsourcing are strategies forfirms to handle the increasing competition in their specific market segments by utilizing the capabilities of other firms in order to gain competitive advantages. China has become animportant player on the global market and is an attractive country for Western firms’ offshore outsourcing initiatives. Even though outsourcing and offshore outsourcing havebeen discussed in the literature for a long period of time, firms are still not able to reach andfulfill their strategic goals and many offshore outsourcing projects fail. The purpose of this thesis is to deepen the existing literature regarding offshore outsourcing to China by considering the Chinese suppliers’ perspective on competitive priorities, which are thepriorities that firms organize the production by, in order to understand how the buying firmscan be more successful in the Chinese context and reach their strategic goals.

本研究主要探討盈餘重編宣告如何影響重編公司之供應商的股價評價與實質投資決策。首先,本研究假設並發現,盈餘重編宣告除了導致重編公司的股價顯著下跌外,亦誘發其上游供應商的股價顯著下跌。實證進一步發現,供應商的股價依盈餘重編之資訊內涵而調整,促使投資人關注重編事件對上游供應商的預期盈餘之影響,也提醒投資人去關心上游供應商的財務報表品質。其次,本研究假設,盈餘重編宣告傳遞有關重編公司未來前景不佳及財務報表不實的資訊,將影響其供應商對投入特定關係資產所能獲得收益之預期,進而影響其對重編公司所投入的特定關係資產投資決策。實證結果支持前述假說,重編公司之供應商於重編宣告年度後將減少其研究發展支出,且此研究發展支出之變動與重編宣告所引起的股價變動具顯著關聯性。最後本文假設,重編公司扭曲其實際盈餘數字將影響供應商的投資決策,進而影響供應商的投資效率性。研究發現,供應商在重編公司財務報表誤述期間有顯著超額投資之現象。然而,此供應商之超額投資現象在盈餘重編宣告年度後不再顯著。 / This dissertation extends prior research on earnings restatements by examining the effects of earnings restatements on valuation and investment decisions of restating firms’ suppliers. First, this paper hypothesizes and finds that earnings restatements that adversely affect stock price of the restating firms also induce their suppliers’ stock price declines. These stock price declines are related to changes in analysts’ earnings forecasts and seem to reflect investors’ financial reporting quality concerns. Second, I hypothesize that earnings restatements contain information about the value of relationship-specific investments by suppliers. This information causes suppliers to revise their belief about the value of relationship-specific investments, and therefore affects their subsequent relationship-specific investment decisions. Consistent with my prediction, I find that changes in suppliers’ relationship-specific investments after restatement announcements are related to information in the restatements. Finally, I predict and find that a restating firm misreporting financial results induces its suppliers to make excess investments during the misreporting period, while excess investment is no longer positive after the restatement announcement.

O desenvolvimento da Indústria Automobilística mundial como também a brasileira, se caracteriza pela importância cada vez maior de projetos conjuntos entre montadoras e seus fornecedores, os quais passaram de meros fornecedores de componentes, para parceiros de desenvolvimento e tecnologia, compartilhando investimentos e riscos, tornando a gestão dos projetos com fornecedores um fator estratégico de suma importância para as montadoras. Para pesquisar a evolução dos fatores críticos de sucesso na Gestão de Projetos Automotivos no Brasil, foram estudados 3 projetos sucessivos de desenvolvimento de painéis para veículos comerciais, ocorridos em uma grande montadora no período de 1988 a 2002. Baseado em avaliações bibliográficas relativas à Qualidade, à Gestão de Projetos e à Gestão de Fornecedores, definiu-se pela utilização do modelo de excelência do EFQM, o Project Excellence Model para pesquisa e classificação dos fatores críticos de sucesso dos projetos. Participantes desses três projetos e stakeholders nos diversos níveis hierárquicos da montadora e dos fornecedores foram entrevistados e através da metodologia dos incidentes críticos, levantados os principais fatores positivos que levaram à sucessos e fatores negativos que ocasionaram insucessos ao projeto. A classificação desses fatores através de Critérios e Categorias permitiu a comparação sistemática dos projetos e a definição dos fatores críticos de sucesso e dos fatores de sucesso. Pesquisas na literatura e consultas aos autores e a participantes de projetos de desenvolvimento de painéis em outras montadoras mostraram tendências semelhantes aos dos três projetos, realçando o aumento das responsabilidades dos fornecedores pelo desenvolvimento e fornecimento de sistemas com base na engenharia simultânea e codesign. Estas pesquisas mostraram a aplicabilidade dos Critérios do Project Excellence Model para a classificação dos fatores críticos na gestão dos projetos e a necessidade de uma subdivisão destes em Categorias. / The worldwide development of the Automotive Industry, as well as the Brazilian one, is characterized by the increase of importance of common projects of the automotive industries and their suppliers, which have passed from merely part suppliers to partners of development and technology, sharing investment and risks, transforming the project management with suppliers into a strategic factor of huge importance for the automotive industries. To investigate the critical success factors of Brazilian Automotive Project Management, it was studied three successive development projects of panels for commercial vehicles occurred between 1988 and 2002 in an important automotive industry. Based on literature research related to Quality, Project Management and Supplier Management, it was defined the application of the EFQM Project Excellence Model to research and classify the critical success factors of those projects. Participants of the three projects and stakeholders at different levels from the Automotive Industry and their Suppliers were interviewed and through the critical incident methodology, were detected the main positive factors, that lead to success and the main negative factors that lead to unsuccessfulness of the projects. The classification of those factors in Criteria and Categories allowed a systematic comparison of the projects and the definition of the critical success factors and the success factors. Research of the literature and interviews with participants on panel ´s development projects in other Automotive Industries showed the same tendencies of the three projects, which emphasized the increased responsibilities of the suppliers regarding the development and supplying of systems based on simultaneous engineering and co design. These researches showed the applicability of the Project Excellence Model Criteria in the classification of the projects critical success factors and success factors and also showed the necessity of a subdivision, in Categories.

Un système de produits-services est une offre composée de produits et de services dont l’objectif est d’apporter une forte valeur ajoutée aux besoins des clients. Le développement de telles offres requiert de nombreuses compétences, certaines étant maîtrisées par l’entreprise qui initie ce développement, d’autres étant spécifiques à ses fournisseurs. Collaborer avec ces derniers est devenu crucial pour l’entreprise cliente afin de répondre aux besoins d’innovation, d’être plus réactif vis-à-vis de l’évolution des marchés et d’optimiser le tryptique coût, qualité et délai de l’offre finale. De telles collaborations nécessitent d’être soigneusement construites, puis managées, pour que le développement de la nouvelle offre soit un succès. Le projet de recherche présenté dans ce mémoire, mené lors d’une thèse sous contrat CIFRE avec Schneider Electric, contribue à la mise en œuvre d’une collaboration client-fournisseurs performante dans le développement de systèmes de produits-services. L’objectif de ce travail était de formaliser un processus permettant de structurer la collaboration, ceci afin de venir en support aux équipes menant des projets en collaboration avec des fournisseurs. Le résultat porté par ce projet de recherche est un processus de co-développement, intégrant l’approche managériale du développement d’une nouvelle offre, avec la dimension relationnelle qui caractérise la manière dont se vit la collaboration au quotidien. Une recherche de type ingénierique a été menée. Elle s’appuie sur sept études de cas conduites au sein de l’entreprise Schneider Electric et auprès de six autres entreprises issues de secteurs industriels différents tels l’armement, la cosmétique ou encore l’assurance. De nombreux acteurs, intervenant au niveau central dans les entreprises et dans les projets de développement, ont été sollicités aussi bien du côté des entreprises clientes que de celui des fournisseurs. Le processus de co-développement, que nous proposons ici, se fonde sur le cycle de vie de la collaboration et le cycle de vie de l’offre. D’une part, il décrit les activités managériales et leur séquencement, les rôles et responsabilités de chaque fonction impliquée dans le projet et les liens avec les autres processus de l’entreprise. Cette approche, dite top-down, permet de comprendre la collaboration client-fournisseurs dans son ensemble et d’anticiper les activités à mener avec les fournisseurs. D’autre part, cette approche managériale a été enrichie par des illustrations des pratiques collaboratives décrivant les interactions au jour le jour entre les acteurs client et fournisseurs. Cette seconde approche, de type bottom-up, insiste sur la dimension relationnelle au sein du projet. Elle caractérise les interactions entre les participants au quotidien et contribue ainsi à la création de confiance et d’engagement, à l’alignement des efforts, à l’apprentissage mutuel : des éléments nécessaires à la réussite du développement de la nouvelle offre. L’originalité de notre travail réside dans la combinaison de ces deux approches dans l'élaboration d'un même processus, combinaison qui permet de comprendre comment s’effectue au quotidien le co-développement d'un nouveau système de produits-services entre plusieurs entreprises. / A products-services system is an offer integrating products and services with the aim of bringing a strong added value to the needs of the clients. The development of such offers requires numerous capabilities, some being mastered by the company developing the offer, others being specific to the suppliers. To collaborate with them became crucial for the customer company to meet the needs of innovation, to be more reactive toward the evolution of markets and to optimize the cost, the quality and the development time of the offer. Such collaborations require to be carefully constructed, then managed, so that the development of the new offer is successful. The research project presented in this report, led during a thesis under a CIFRE contract with Schneider Electric, contributes to the implementation of successful customer-suppliers collaborations in development of products-services systems. The aim of this work was to formalize a process that would help the structuring of a collaboration, which would in turn support the teams in charge of leading collaborative projects with suppliers. The final result of our work is a co-development process integrating the managerial approach of the development of a new offer, with the relational dimension characterizing the way collaboration is lived on a daily basis. The engineered research approach has been followed in this project, which leans on seven case studies within Schneider Electric company and six others companies stemming from different branches of industry such armament, cosmetic or insurance. Numerous actors, working at the corporate level in companies and in development projects, have been mobilized in client companies as well as in suppliers companies. The co-development process we propose here is based on the life cycle of the collaboration and the life cycle of the products-services systems. On one hand, it describes the managerial activities and their sequencing, the roles and the responsibilities of functions involved in the project, and the links with the others processes of the company. This top-down approach allows understanding the customer-suppliers collaboration as a whole and to anticipate the activities to be led with the suppliers. On the other hand, this managerial approach has been enriched by the illustration of collaborative practices describing the interactions from day to day between customer and suppliers. This second approach, bottom-up type, highlights the relational dimension of the project. It characterizes the daily interactions between the participants and thus contributing to the creation of commitment and trust, to the alignment of the efforts, and to mutual learning: elements necessary to the success of the project. The originality of our work resides in the combination of these two approaches in the same process, a combination which allows understanding how the co-development of a new products-services system is performed between several companies on a daily basis.

Στην παρούσα διπλωματική μελέτη, σχεδιάζεται και αναπτύσσεται ένα αξιόπιστο σύστημα βαθμολόγησης και άρα αξιολόγησης των προμηθευτών απαραίτητων σε μία Εφοδιαστική Αλυσίδα Αγαθών και Υπηρεσιών.

Παρουσιάζονται αναλυτικά τα κριτήρια απόφασης, οι μέθοδοι επιλογής (εξάλειψης ή βελτιστοποίησης), τα χαρακτηριστικά του προβλήματος επιλογής προμηθευτή (στρατηγική απόφαση, συνενωτικοί κανόνες, πολλαπλοί εμπλεκόμενοι-παίκτες & διαμορφωτές λήψης απόφασης, πολλαπλά αντικειμενικά και υποκειμενικά κριτήρια, περιορισμοί τόσο των προμηθευτών όσο και της εταιρείας, και ο πιθανοκρατικός χαρακτήρας του προβλήματος) .
Η προσέγγιση απαιτεί η απόφαση να ληφθεί σε δύο στάδια.
Στο πρώτο στάδιο, επιλέγουμε τους στρατηγικούς προμηθευτές διαμέσου της εταιρικής στρατηγικής για να επιλεχθούν οι προμηθευτές εκείνοι που εγγυώνται την μακροπρόθεσμη βιωσιμότητα της εταιρείας και το ελάχιστο κατώφλι κάθε κριτηρίου.
Στο δεύτερο στάδιο της προσέγγισης αυτής, προτείνεται ένα γραμμικό μοντέλο μικτού ακέραιου προγραμματισμού για να επιλεγούν οι καλύτεροι προμηθευτές και οι απαιτούμενες ποσότητες θεωρώντας τους περιορισμούς τόσο των προμηθευτών όσο και της επιχείρησης. Ο σκοπός αυτού του μοντέλου είναι να μεγιστοποιηθεί η συνάρτηση U που αναπαριστά τον ολικό βαθμό που δίνεται από την ομάδα απόφασης. Προτείνεται ένας τρόπος για να ληφθεί υπόψη η πιθανοκρατική συμπεριφορά των υποψήφιων προμηθευτών. Τέλος, για καλύτερη κατανόηση, παρουσιάζεται ένα αριθμητικό παράδειγμα βελτιστοποίησης α) χωρίς περιορισμούς με την προσέγγιση της μεθόδου Αναλυτικής Ιεράρχησης (AHP) και β) με περιορισμούς. Το παράδειγμα μας δείχνει ότι η μαθηματική προσέγγιση ήταν η καλύτερη μέθοδος η οποία λαμβάνει υπόψη όλους τους περιορισμούς. / In this thesis study, it is designed and developed a reliable system calibration and evaluation of suppliers so necessary in a Supply Chain of Goods and Services.
The methodology includes: Evaluation Team Specification, Supply Requirements Sorting (Supply Positioning) for materials and services (high profitability, critical, non-critical, strategic, low cost & high risk), Critical Materials and Services Condition, Potential suppliers Highlight, Suppliers Pre-selection, Cooperation - Discussion with Suppliers, Vendor Selection Criteria Identification,, Criteria Weight Credits, SWOT Analysis Development, Research for additional information, Writing, Editing and sending questionnaires, Potential suppliers Review, Approved Suppliers File Records (Archives).
An overview of four to five core selection methods and a literature review of research efforts are following. The decision criteria, the selection methods (optimization or elimination) and the characteristics of the supplier selection problem (strategic decision, conjunctive rules, multiple stakeholders-players & decision makers, multiple objective and subjective criteria, constraints regarding to suppliers and the company, the probabilistic nature of the problem) are presenting in details.
This approach requires a decision taken in two stages.
In the first stage, we select strategic suppliers through the corporate strategy in order to select those suppliers that guarantee the long term viability of the company and the minimum threshold for each criterion.
In the second stage of this approach, it is proposed a mixed-integer linear programming model to select the best suppliers and the required quantities considering the limitations of suppliers and the business as well. The purpose of this model is to maximize the function U representing the overall degree given by the group decision. It is also proposed a way to take into account the probabilistic behavior of supply candidates. Finally, for better understanding, a numerical example of optimization is presented a) without restrictions with the approach of Analytic Hierarchy process (AHP) and b) with restrictions. The example shows that the mathematical approach was the best method which takes into account all the constraints.

Previous issue date: 2017-03-13 / Com base na teoria institucional e na teoria social cognitiva, foi realizado um experimento de escolha discreta com 128 gestores americanos, 105 brasileiros e 109 indianos para testar três causas alternativas de não atendimento por fornecedores às práticas de sustentabilidade da empresa focal da cadeia de suprimentos. Os resultados fornecem evidências preliminares de que o background institucional destes gestores pode impedir que eles percebam quando não cumprem as práticas de sustentabilidade da empresa compradora (focal) e de que certas configurações da cadeia de suprimentos influenciam a propensão a não cumprir as políticas de sustentabilidade da empresa focal. A generalização destes resultados é limitada devido à metodologia experimental utilizada. / Based on institutional theory and social cognitive theory, a discrete-choice experiment was conducted with 128 American, 105 Brazilian and 109 Indian managers to test three alternative causes of suppliers’ non-compliance with supply chain focal company’s sustainability practices. Results provide preliminary evidence to support that managers’ institutional background may prevent them from perceiving their non-compliance with buyer (focal) company’s sustainability practices and that certain supply chain configurations influence their likelihood not to comply with focal company’s sustainability policies. Generalization of such findings is limited because of the experimental methodology used.

The characteristics of the local market, the current suppliers and the potential of the state are shown. Based on the theoretical background, the research instrument was developed, consisting of a survey validated as the methodology presented by the literature suggested. The results of the field work research contribute to the implementation of development strategies for IT used by Maranhense suppliers and, consequently, for local development. This data allows the confirmation, in general terms, of the incipient use of specific technological instruments in the management of supply chains among local suppliers. / A utilização da tecnologia da informação na gestão da cadeia de suprimentos pelas organizações tem sido fonte de vantagem competitiva, principalmente em tempos de acirramento da concorrência. Entretanto, percebe-se pouca publicação com resultado de tal utilização no cenário do Nordeste do Brasil. Nesse sentido, ressalta-se a relevância da presente pesquisa, que tem como objetivo final analisar como a tecnologia da informação vem sendo utilizada para auxiliar a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos na cidade de São Luís do Maranhão. Demonstram-se as características do mercado local, os fornecedores atuantes e as potencialidades da região. A partir do referencial teórico é desenvolvido um instrumento de pesquisa, questionário do tipo survey, que é validado segundo metodologia sugerida pela literatura. Os resultados da pesquisa de campo contribuem para a implementação de estratégias de desenvolvimento da tecnologia da informação utilizada pelos fornecedores maranhenses e, consequentemente, para o desenvolvimento local. Tais dados permitem a constatação, em termos gerais, do uso incipiente de instrumentos específicos da tecnologia da informação na gestão da cadeia de suprimentos entre os fornecedores locais.

process of development of products. An important aspect in the PDP, is the possible contribution of the supplier, combining itself since the stages initiates, of form to optimize
performance ace characteristic, to reduce risks and to optimize the innovative process. The ceramic tiles industry Brazilian particularly can be characterized by producers that use water process and dry process. The industry that uses the dried milling process has grown of significant form from the beginning of years 90, producing currently about 60% of the national production. The ceramic tiles industry historically uses the supplier as collaborating in the development of products. In Brazil more specifically the role played for
the suppliers of inputs for ceramic glazes is important.
Considering itself that the common suppliers are ace industries that use the dry process and the water process, this work effects an exploratory boarding on the process of development of products in the ceramic tiles industry. Case studies were done in seven companies tiles manufacturers and three glazes suppliers. One concludes that the industry independently of the competitive strategy, must structuralize and co-ordinate better the PDP preventing the extreme dependence of suppliers. And that the established scene privileges more than proportionally, the industry that uses dry process. / O aumento da competitividade nos mercados demanda produtos com alta qualidade e que sejam desenvolvidos de forma a que as empresas apresentem rápido ciclo de
desenvolvimento, alta performance e baixo custo. Várias ferramentas da engenharia de produção estão disponíveis de forma a otimizar e a tornar mais previsíveis os resultados
advindos do processo de desenvolvimento de produtos. Um aspecto importante no PDP é a possível colaboração do fornecedor, integrando-se desde as etapas inicias, de forma a
otimizar as características de desempenho, reduzir riscos e a otimizar o processo inovativo. A indústria de revestimentos cerâmicos, a brasileira, particularmente pode ser caracterizada
por produtores que utilizam o processo de moagem a úmido e processo de moagem a seco. A indústria que utiliza o processo de moagem a seco tem crescido de forma significativa a partir do inicio dos anos 90, produzindo atualmente cerca de 60% da produção nacional. A
indústria de revestimentos cerâmicos historicamente utiliza o fornecedor como colaborador no desenvolvimento de produtos. No Brasil mais especificamente é importante o papel
desempenhado pelos fornecedores de insumos para esmaltes denominados colorifícios. Considerando-se que os fornecedores são comuns ás indústrias que utilizam o processo de moagem a seco e moagem a úmido, este trabalho efetua uma abordagem exploratória sobre o processo de desenvolvimento de produtos na indústria de revestimentos cerâmicos brasileira. Foram realizados estudos de caso em sete empresas fabricantes de revestimentos e três colorificios. Conclui-se que a indústria independentemente da estratégia competitiva, deve estruturar e coordenar melhor o PDP evitando a excessiva dependência de fornecedores. E que o cenário estabelecido privilegia mais que proporcionalmente, a indústria que utiliza o processo de moagem a seco.
