The research proposes the development of an Interactive and Adaptive Webquest focused on the practice of english teaching and its implementation in a class with students from the sixth semester of a Language Course, for evaluation, both held under the perspective of the Activity Theory, Distributed Cognition and Task Based Teaching. Created in 1995 by a professor at San Diego State University, Bernie Dodge, the methodology Webquest is gaining its place in the educational field because its potential concerning to the use of information from the Web which makes the learning more significant and effective. The data were collected through interviews, observation, photography, documental analysis and questionnaire. The initial discussion of the data on the development of an Interactive and Adaptive Webquest indicated that the pre-task moment and the extension of the Webquest via modules can come to enhance language learning since these elements seem to expand the possibility of exposure to and use of the target language. Besides, the data showed that the Interactive and Adaptive Webquest raised the level of satisfaction of the students in performing the activity, providing more favorable conditions for learning from interactive activities.

Etude de l'apport d'une réflexion dans l'apprentissage des langues dans une université colombienne / Study of a reflective contribution to language learning in a Colombian university

Sanchez Leon, Nelly Beatriz 06 December 2011 (has links)
In the light of current theoretical knowledge, this action-research focuses on a project in which learners at the National University –Palmira have the opportunity of improving their inter-language in English. Our main hypothesis is that by adopting the task-based approach, L2 learning would be more efficient. It is inferred based-learning activities will help them to develop ways of obtaining knowledge and strategies to interact in real-life situations, and techniques to extract information from scientific written texts. This hypothesis has been validated through the realization of teaching / learning practices. Some secondary hypotheses to establish learners‘ and teachers‘ needs, expectations, goals and attitudes of formal training in English were also verified in this action-research. We hope this contribution may lead our university to adopt pedagogical innovative practices in which learners feel more concerned and involved in acquiring a second language.

Från vision till integration : infusion av telemedicin : en översättningsprocess / From vision to integration : Infusion of telemedicine : a process of translation

Linderoth, Henrik January 2000 (has links)
During the 1990's high expectations were put on telemedicine technology in health care organizations, which can be seen as a reflexion of the society's interest in IT. The use of tele-medicine is expected to improve the quality and decrease costs of health care services. However, if these expectations are to be attained the visions have to be translated into fields of application in local settings where the technology would be used. This could be seen as an infusion process, which means that the technology would incrementally be used in a comprehensive and integrated manner. In this thesis, four Swedish telemedicine projects are analyzed. The approach used is that of Actor network theory (ANT), which has enabled the development of a theory of the infusion process, implementation of IT-projects, and parts of ANT, e.g. the model of the translation process and the notion of inscription. By using the concept of translation, it is possible to see the infusion process as a process where the generic features of the technology (transmitting sound and pictures in real time) are translated into concrete activities in local settings. These fields of application are realized by the mobilization of different task-based networks, where the roles of the actors are defined by the task to be solved. An iterated mobilization of the network implies further that the network will become stabilized, which is a central dimension in the process of infusion. Another way to understand the process of infusion is to describe it as cycles of implementation, where one cycle symbolizes the implementation of a field of application, which is a result of the translation of the generic features of the technology. The inscriptions in the studied technology allow a high degree of flexibility of use and flexibility of action. The flexibility means that fields of application ought to be developed in interaction between actors in local settings, and supporting programs of action are to be identified, or developed, in order to integrate technology use into daily routines. The considerable numbers of failed of IT-project implementations can be explained by the fact that a traditional planning perspective has been used on technologies, which allow a high degree of flexibility of use and flexibility of action. However, by categorizing inscriptions in technological artifacts, it becomes possible to predict what kinds of implementation strategies are appropriate for different kinds of technologies. By viewing the implementation of open networking technologies as a process of translation, the infusion process will be facilitated and a comprehensive and integrated use of technology will be enabled. / digitalisering@umu

Massively Parallel Cartesian Discrete Ordinates Method for Neutron Transport Simulation / SN cartésien massivement parallèle pour la simulation neutronique

Moustafa, Salli 15 December 2015 (has links)
High-fidelity nuclear reactor core simulations require a precise knowledge of the neutron flux inside the reactor core. This flux is modeled by the linear Boltzmann equation also called neutron transport equation. In this thesis, we focus on solving this equation using the discrete ordinates method (SN) on Cartesian mesh. This method involves a source iteration scheme including a sweep over the spatial mesh and gathering the vast majority of computations in the SN method. Due to the large amount of computations performed in the resolution of the Boltzmann equation, numerous research works were focused on the optimization of the time to solution by developing parallel algorithms for solving the transport equation. However, these algorithms were designed by considering a super-computer as a collection of independent cores, and therefore do not explicitly take into account the memory hierarchy and multi-level parallelism available inside modern super-computers. Therefore, we first proposed a strategy for designing an efficient parallel implementation of the sweep operation on modern architectures by combining the use of the SIMD paradigm thanks to C++ generic programming techniques and an emerging task-based runtime system: PaRSEC. We demonstrated the need for such an approach using theoretical performance models predicting optimal partitionings. Then we studied the challenge of converging the source iterations scheme in highly diffusive media such as the PWR cores. We have implemented and studied the convergence of a new acceleration scheme (PDSA) that naturally suits our Hybrid parallel implementation. The combination of all these techniques have enabled us to develop a massively parallel version of the SN Domino solver. It is capable of tackling the challenges posed by the neutron transport simulations and compares favorably with state-of-the-art solvers such as Denovo. The performance of the PaRSEC implementation of the sweep operation reaches 6.1 Tflop/s on 768 cores corresponding to 33.9% of the theoretical peak performance of this set of computational resources. For a typical 26-group PWR calculations involving 1.02×1012 DoFs, the time to solution required by the Domino solver is 46 min using 1536 cores.

Material autêntico e tarefas no ensino-aprendizagem do italiano como língua estrangeira: entre teoria e prática didática / Authentic material and tasks in teaching and learning of italian as foreign language: between theory and practice

Luciana Rita Mauro 21 February 2014 (has links)
This research appeared in order to bring to the classroom the \"reality\" of the Italian language, thereby providing to brazilian learners an instrument to interact through both oral and written communication. The concern that is part of the proposed reflection was based on two key points in the teaching/learning of foreign languages: what to teach and how to teach. For the first point, we started from the questioning of authentic material, authenticity and of the concept of task, and for the second one, we took as reference the studies about task based learning and teaching. Based on these theoretical reflections, it was designed an experimental italian course for beginners, with a duration of 45 hours, whose teaching units were created entirely starting from authentic materials and tasks. Together with this experimental course, an italian course level 1 was also realized. In this course the Italian language was studied with a teaching book. The participants of both courses constituted an experimental and a control group. The main objective was to investigate, comparing the two groups, if the utilization of teaching material and meaningful activities produces differences not only in the linguistic performance of the two groups, but also in their attitude related to the foreign language learning.

Luce, Maurício Seibel January 2009 (has links)
One of the main goals of the research in language acquisition has been to understand in which ways the learning or acquisition processes occur, and to propose methodological alternatives which are able to promote authentic communication in classroom, enabling learners to take part in a range of communicative situations found in daily life. Among the communicative approaches, the task based-language teaching has strongly been regarded as an option that permits both the development of desirable communicative skills, through authentic practice and a focus on meaning, and which also provides room for moments or steps during the task when the learner’s attention be temporarily focused on formal aspects of the target language, without any kind of inversion on the learning priorities, that is, keeping the main focus on the tasks, instead of an excessively strong focus on structural aspects. The present research investigated a project involving the production of a movie review guide book. / Interactive technologies and task-based language teaching in the English as a Foreign Language classes in French schools. Possible synergies and their effects

Lanteri, Marine 18 June 2019 (has links)
This doctoral research explores the integration of classroom technologies, particularly the interactivewhiteboard (IWB) and the tablet, in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom in task-basedteaching practice, in accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines. Following a pilot studytaking a global approach to classroom research, the main study examines empirical data collected inaction research projects involving four teachers in two primary school classes (8-9 year-olds and 9-11 year-olds) and two secondary classes (14-15 year-olds and 17-18 year-olds). The goal of the studyis to understand the pedagogical affordances of interactive tools for EFL teaching, to consider theircompatibility with task-based teaching and to determine what added value they may contribute tolanguage teaching and learning. Findings suggest a synergetic relationship between interactivetechnologies and task-based language teaching which improves learners’ cognitive engagement inactivities, fosters social and collaborative learning, and also promotes independent learning, taskauthenticity and L2 motivation. Benefits to the participating teachers include an introduction tocollaborative action research, the consolidation of their technopedagogical skills, and the adoption ofa reflective posture towards their own teaching practices, all of which hold promise for continuingprofessional development.
