La formation des enseignants de FLE à l'enseignement de l'oral dans un contexte multilingue : le cas du Botswana / The training of French as a foreign language teachers for teaching oral skills in a multilingual context : the case of Botswana

Kewagamang, Phemelo 19 January 2018 (has links)
Teacher action in french as a foreign language classrooms of Botswana concentrates on the development of learners’ written skills. Oral activities are used to reinforce the teaching of grammar. However, in a context where language is taught for the purpose of developing learner’s communicative competence, oral skills constitute the means and the end. This research seeks to determine in what way the training of teachers to the didactics of oral skills could improve teacher action in order to develop learner’s oral skills. We therefore propose a training model to teachers, which is inspired by the communicative/task based learning. The clinical/experimental approach, is used to observe and video record teachers in action: first without the training model and then with the training model. Autoconfrontation and alloconfrontation interviews help understand the motives behind teacher’s action. The results indicate that, code switching; the only discourse strategy used by teachers, determines the posture that they adopt and consequently the development of learners’ oral skills. It is as a result important, if we want to train teachers on how to teach oral skills in a multilingual context, to integrate the didactics of code switching to the training model.

Making an atlas of an urban farm : Community mapping as a pedagogical tool in urban environments

Green, Kirsty January 2018 (has links)
Outdoor education in the UK has been growing in popularity and with it a further understanding of its benefits. Research shows that many young people still don’t access natural environments and many educators still struggle with how to provide them. This is particularly prevalent in urban environments where spatial inequality has been linked to a decline in health, well-being and personal development. Community mapping involves a community coming together to create a map of their locality and share local knowledge. This can take many forms. Sometimes it might be a traditional cartographic map while other times it may be stories, sculptures or poems. In this research I explore how community mapping can be used as a pedagogical tool, looking particularly at how it can help educators approach outdoor education in an urban environment. I take a teacher action research approach, inspired by previous art-based approaches to educational inquiry. Through doing a community mapping project with two groups of 8 to 10 year olds on an urban farm in central London I share the visable and often invisible components of our pedagogies, including children’s voices and work as well as the voice of myself and another educators, reflecting on the realities of outdoor education in an urban environment. I discover the cross curricular possibilities that such a project brings, the spaces it opens up for us to learn from children’s voices and the many ways in which community mapping can be used to address aims and goals of the UK primary curriculum. Community mapping can help educators overcome a lack of confidence in how to approach outdoor learning. The child-led nature of projects can allow children and educators to work together to co-create their understanding of the locality, noticing the small details they hadn’t seen before. It can provide a space for educators to learn more about how the young people they work with see the world around them while also providing authentic experiences that can be utilized in wider classroom learning. This research allows other educators to take away what resonates with them, with their experiences and pedagogies, and use these new understandings to enhance their own educational practices in their own settings.

Over the years, the expansion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has been increasing significantly. Faced with the changes caused by the technological development, it is necessary to reflect on its influence in education, since ICTs can be a way to pedagogical practice innovation, generating greater possibility of learning and enable a more pleasant teaching method. In this sense, it is important for teachers to include, in their educational concepts and didactic actions, awareness of their role in a society involved by technology, which might require changes in their work process, understanding that education is not a reality unchangeable defined by others, but questionable in its essence. From this perspective, this study, through literature and field research, of an exploratory nature, had as its central objective to investigate the use of ICTs in teaching and learning process of education in Natural Sciences in the areas of Chemistry, Physics and Biology, involving high school teachers in the public schools of Cascavel/PR, Brazil. For data collection it was used semi-structured script, which was applied in interviews with teachers, as well as a checklist to verify which ICT the schools have. The obtained data were grouped together and its analysis occurred by using the content analysis technique. The data obtained through the checklist were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the results were presented in tables, complementing to the interviews data. In this sense, it is considers that the data presented in this text refer to the reflection on the importance of the teachers, their positions, their resistance, training needs, among others, in face with the need for insertion of ICTs in formal education / Na contemporaneidade, as mudanças ocorridas na sociedade são caracterizadas pela competividade, produtividade, globalização, inovação tecnológica e conectividade.

However, doing Mathematical Modeling in Mathematical Education implies, in most cases, a change of position on the part of the teacher who needs to conceive Mathematics as a living and dynamic science, the produce of human constructions, interests and social needs. It is evident, therefore, the need to think of continuous training models that provide, for example, a reflection on the pedagogical practices developed and the different possibilities of approaching Mathematical contents. In this direction, there is a project of teacher training in Mathematical Modeling that is developed in several nuclei of the state of Paraná, coordinated by a teacher of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná, UNIOESTE, campus of Cascavel. The project proposes to include teachers in an environment where they can review, describe, explore, share and negotiate their personal constructs and their implicit theories, surpassing the existing training models, proving to be an important locus of this research proposal. In this context, we establish our research question: what sense do the participating teachers attribute to the continued formation in Mathematical Modeling in Mathematical Education? It is been refined by the phenomenological vision and requires a study of the object, through the collection of data, understandings and interpretations of the phenomena presented. The data produced for the research were been collected through audio recordings of the training sessions realized every fifteen days at one of the schools in the Municipality of Francisco Beltrão - Paraná, and the collection of testimonies of the teachers participating in the training. For the optimization of the data analysis, we use Atlas.ti software. In the period from October 2015 to July 2016, during the period described in this dissertation, eleven teachers from Elementary School (final years) and High School participated in the training. The research brings contributions to the area of teacher training in Mathematical Modeling, evidencing aspects relevant to what concerns the structure and model of formation, the affective, professional and formative relationships in the continuous formation, the mathematical knowledge of the teacher and the Mathematical Modeling and intends to contribute to the Modeling being disseminated effectively in classrooms, providing a more dynamic and meaningful teaching of Mathematics that searches the critical and social formation of the student through the mathematical knowledge and its relationship with the context lived.

Coconstruction de normes scolaires et contextes d’enseignement : une étude multimodale de l’agir professoral / Co-construction of school norms and teaching contexts : a multimodal study of teacher action

Azaoui, Brahim 20 November 2014 (has links)
A considerable body of research has shown interest to teacher action. Though the nonverbal dimension of these actions is acknowledged, few studies have considered it thoroughly in their analysis. Hence, following an ethnographic approach, our work analyzes the verbal and nonverbal actions of two secondary school teachers. Each one teaches both French as an L1 to native speakers and French as a schooling language to non native speakers. This work attempts to assess the effect of the teaching contexts on the teachers' actions, and more specifically on the way they co-Construct school norms (language and interaction norms). It also aims at highlighting the normalizing process invariants from one teaching context to the next. This work relies on the observation and analysis of two types of corpora: video recorded class interaction, transcribed with ELAN, and three different types of videoed confrontations: the teacher's self-Confrontation, students' observation and comments of videoed interactions of their class, and the teacher's confrontation of her students' videoed reflections. We analyzed the norm construction strategies using both a quantitative and a qualitative approach of the verbal and nonverbal productions. We borrowed tools from various fields: enunciative linguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, and micro-Sociology.
