Immersive Exploration Experiences: Using Multi-Branching Decision Narratives as a Design Framework for Advanced Audience EngagementWhite, Arianna 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Although ‘immersive experiences' and ‘immersion' are popular keywords in the themed entertainment industry today, they lack clear definition and criteria in their design and application. Nevertheless, there has been an increase in guest demand for these types of experiences and for these spaces to develop innovative methods that increase the degree to which audiences are able to engage with them. This thesis iterates cohesive design criteria for immersive experiences as they continue their trend toward increased engagement, interactivity, and guest agency in physical manifestations of imaginary worlds. This trend is explored through contextual references from the industry and an assessment of their implementation of the criteria towards increasingly immersive spaces. However, the current trajectory of these experiences does not demonstrate holistic consideration of the various elements required to progress towards true “advanced immersion” for the future of themed design. A new design practice is put forward for practitioners: “Immersive Exploration Experiences.” This framework progresses towards advanced immersion by considering varied guest roles and offering personalized, branching narrative structures as a key tenet. The Immersive Exploration Experiences concept is further illustrated with example design implementations accompanied by exploration tree diagrams that show the combination of dynamic, interactive, and engaging elements. The intent of this thesis is to provide a template for creating next generation immersive experiences which are built upon dynamic guest roles, transformative spaces, repeatable narratives, and other advanced elements that give every guest an opportunity to create their own path through an imaginary world.

[en] DESIGN, SCENERY AND ENTERTAINMENT: AN ANALYSIS OF THE THEMED SPACES EVOLUTION / [pt] DESIGN, CENOGRAFIA E ENTRETENIMENTO: UMA ANÁLISE DA EVOLUÇÃO DOS ESPAÇOS TEMÁTICOSFLAVIA DALBUQUERQUE ANDRADE 26 April 2004 (has links)
do
cotidiano onde todos os elementos compositivos devem
remeter claramente ao tema adotado; quanto mais
óbvia a identificação da narrativa melhor. Nesta
dissertação, procuramos entender a construção deste
modelo,
Buscamos,
ainda, dentro deste modelo temático, a identificação de
futuras tendências, onde se enquadrariam as grandes
marcas
que se tornam temas de si próprias. / [en] The addition of a theme during the conception of commercial
spaces can become a way of promoting them. More and more
establishments opt for the themed title willing to acquire
new values, especially those brought along with
the theme. This way, we create spaces of escape where all
the elements clearly refer to the adopted theme; the more
obvious the identification of the story told,
the better. In this dissertation we intended to understand
the construction of this model, the possible causes of its
consolidation and success; the reason for the
enchantment produced by the Themed Spaces, considered
always as historical products. We still searched, within
this thematic model, for the identification of
future tendencies in which can be included the brands that
turn into their own themes.

Previous issue date: 2016-03-01 / The forms of the History of Science approach to teaching has been the subject of
numerous investigations among historians and researchers in science education and
Chemistry, because it is considered that its inclusion in teaching could allow
understanding the nature of science, as it covers the construction process of science
and organization of scientific knowledge. In this research, our objective is to investigate
how the History of Science allied to drama can contribute to Chemistry teaching and
the perception of the students about the nature of science. We proposed the reading
of texts on the lives of scientists and drama in the classroom, to high school
sophomores, from a public school in the city of Toledo – PR. Our research has three
main focuses. At first phase, we investigated which perceptions of science and
scientists have students made from the readings and socializing in the classroom
(seminars). In the second phase, our concern was focused on the textual production
(screenplay writing) and theatrical presentation in groups, seeking to identify whether
students have positioned themselves as authors. At last, we investigated the ideas of
students about the possibilities and challenges of using the History of Science allied
with drama in the classroom (testimonials), seeking to evaluate the project and its
relevance to the Chemistry Teaching. The results obtained from the students suggests
that contributed to the humanization of science for students to realize that science is
not something isolated, but a human construction, which has discord in many ways,
not being governed by endless formulas; that the scientist is a man of his time and can
dispute power with other scientists, and can have only personal interests or suffer the
consequences of their actions. Due to the difficulties encountered by students to
position themselves as authors of the scripts, we believe that the reading habits greatly
influence the way to relate to the text and interpret. The drama can be used to address
the history of science, but there are many challenges to be overcome, both by the
Toledo – PR. Nossa pesquisa está centrada em três momentos. No primeiro

Previous issue date: 2012-10-10 / This current essay tries to accomplish some reflections about the cultural tourism in the city of Rio de Janeiro, through the creation of a travel guide with themed routes based on the history of the city. This guide would present new forms to observe the urban landscape considering the main role played by the city in the Brazilian history as political and cultural capital. The major focus of the foreseen itineraries would be the nation’s republican phase from the end of the XIX century till the 1970’s. In this period, Rio has faced innumerable urban changes which would be also analyzed during a series of walking-tours described in the travel guide. Based on this approach, the paper analyzes the formulation possibilities for this touristic product through theoretical references about Collective Memory, Sites of Memory, Cultural Identity and Heritage Interpretation. Taking advantage from these concepts, the study explains this emerging style of cultural tourism as an incentive for local residents to become travellers in their own city, as citizen- tourists.

Food, fantasy, and the spectacle: the role of food and illusion at the wizarding world of harry potterUnknown Date (has links)
Each year over 300 million people visit theme parks, making them the major vacation destination worldwide. Theme parks are known for their elaborate spectacle, the creation of artificial realities through intricate immersive experiences including costumed characters, stage shows, and extravagant decor. Though many aspects of the theme park experience have been reviewed, little focus has been given to the role of food in the overall immersion, particularly how food extends the spectacle into a fantastical created reality. This study examined the function of food within a highly immersive theme park setting, and how it contributed to the overall illusion and immersion of the fantasy environment. Research was conducted from December 2014 to March 2015 at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando Resort themed food served three overarching functions: (1) it operated as an experience, (2) it functioned as a conduit to authenticity, and, (3) it extended sensory perceptions. Food immersed tourists in the themed experience, though visual cues remained the primary sensory stimulus. However, guests considered the location to be more authentic when coupled with a themed food item, as opposed to the generic food choices found in other parks. Themed food functions as an extension of the spectacle by maintaining the illusion and contributes to the overall exhibition of the themed space. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2015 / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

A Survey of 21st Century Gay-Themed American Art Songs for BaritoneCardwell, Robert Ewell 05 1900 (has links)
The majority of repertoire catalogs for singers, printed and digital, often list works by voice type, language, and/or genre. The 21st century has seen an emergence of online classical music catalogs where the user can seek repertoire by searching composers from underrepresented communities (i.e., women, Black, LGBTQ, Latinx). What does not currently exist is a resource that catalogs songs for solo voice dealing specifically with gay subject matter. This dissertation surveys seventeen 21st century gay-themed art songs by four living American composers: David Del Tredici, Ben Moore, Clint Borzoni, and Gary Schocker. Each chapter introduces a different composer and a select representation of their gay-themed art songs. Each entry includes text analysis based on the composer's and author's intentions and a brief analysis to determine pedagogical and musical difficulty. It is my intent that this document will facilitate a much-needed resource and encourage further study, promotion, and performance of voice works with gay themes. Moreover, I hope that it will serve as a tool for the applied voice teacher to assist in the vocal and artistic development of their students through broader repertoire choices.

Best of Both Worlds: A Platform for Hybrids of Computer Games and Board GamesRören, Jonas January 2007 (has links)
This report describes my work with developing a game for a gaming platform that enables hybrids between board games and computer games. My ambition has been to develop a game that takes advantage of the novel possibilities that this platform permits. Among those are to operate with a combination of the computer game traits of complexity in the games and ease of playing; as well as the board game / card game traits of combining social dynamics around a game session with ability to keep information hidden from other players. This is accomplished by a combination of mobile phones and a computer connected to the Internet. The screen of the computer will serve as board and the phones will display cards and other private information to the players, as well as functioning as the players' means for interaction with the game. The game developed, Wind Bugs, takes advantage of the complexity of game states that a computer easily can handle. Effort has been put into finding mechanics with a level of complexity while still implementing them in way that makes them both playable and enjoyable. Rather than focusing on immersion, which has become common in the design of computer games, hopes are that games for this platform, including the game developed in this project, will give room to social dynamics among the players. Though operating with the use of mobile phones, the platform will not support "mobile gaming"; the proposed setting is a group of players surrounding a big screen.
