No. of bitstreams: 0 / As cinzas resultantes da queima de carvão por usinas termelétricas tem sido uma fonte de contaminação constante devido a seu descarte sobre o solo de forma inadequada. Os elementos tóxicos presentes na cinza de carvão quando lixiviados da cinza para o solo podem ficar biodisponíveis e serem absorvidos por plantas, consumidos por animais ou ainda transportados para diversas matrizes ambientais, tais como, águas subterrâneas e águas superficiais. Ensaio de germinação e desenvolvimento das radículas de Lactuca sativa e ensaio de toxicidade aguda com Daphnia similis foram realizados para avaliar a toxicidade dos percolados de colunas de cinza de carvão e de solo com cinza de carvão. De acordo com os valores obtidos por meio dos ensaios de germinação e desenvolvimento das radículas de L. sativa foram observados efeitos tóxicos à germinação das sementes de L. sativa nos percolados da coluna de cinza de carvão. Os valores médios de CI50(120h) destes percolados variaram de 27,6 a 90,6% e os valores do índice de germinação (IG) variaram de 6,7 a 40,8. Nos ensaios de toxicidade aguda com os organismos teste D. similis também foram observados efeitos tóxicos à mobilidade e/ou sobrevivência dos organismos expostos aos percolados da coluna de cinza de carvão. Os valores obtidos para CE50(48h) nestes percolados variaram de 25,6 a 84,1%. Os percolados das colunas de solo com cinza de carvão não apresentaram toxicidade tanto à L. sativa como à D. similis. Os resultados obtidos por meio destes ensaios ecotoxicológicos para os percolados das colunas de cinza de carvão e de solo com cinza de carvão indicam que o solo das colunas retiveram as substâncias tóxicas lixiviadas da cinza de carvão, ou seja, os solos utilizados nestas colunas atuaram como filtros. / Dissertação (Mestrado) / IPEN/D / Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares - IPEN-CNEN/SP

Estimativa e recuperação da água presente nos produtos de combustão de centrais termelétricas / Estimation and recovery of the water present in the flue gases of thermal power plantsJosé Eduardo Prata 12 April 2018 (has links)
Usinas Termelétricas (UTEs), compostas por ciclo simples a vapor e ciclo combinado, são instalações industriais que consomem elevadas quantidades de água, sobretudo por conta de suas operações de resfriamento e de geração de vapor. Paralelamente, tem-se observado a redução de oferta deste recurso em muitas regiões onde se encontram instaladas unidades termelétricas, fato que suscita a preocupação, o debate e a pesquisa acerca do desenvolvimento de tecnologias e estratégias direcionadas à mitigação do consumo e reaproveitamento de água em UTEs. Em contrapartida, do mesmo modo que UTEs são intensivas no consumo de água, esta é também produzida na forma de vapor em escalas significativas como resultado do processo de combustão. Contudo, a parcela de água produzida é lançada para a atmosfera juntamente com os demais gases produzidos (CO2, N2, O2, SO2). Frente a esse contexto, este trabalho se divide em duas etapas distintas. A primeira voltada à estimativa da quantidade de água e demais componentes presentes nos gases de combustão de trinta e seis UTEs brasileiras, dentre as quais vinte e duas são movidas a gás natural (ciclos simples e combinados) e quatorze a carvão mineral (ciclos simples). Tais estimativas levam em conta as condições ambientais do local de operação, a eficiência típica do ciclo e a composição do combustível empregado. A segunda etapa trata da modelagem e da simulação, sob diferentes condições operacionais (pressão, temperatura de resfriamento e porcentagem de vapor de água nos gases), de um condensador duplo tubo vertical operando sob regime de convecção natural no lado do resfriamento, a partir do qual se estuda o processo de condensação do vapor de água na presença dos demais gases produzidos, estes conhecidos como gases não condensáveis (GNC). Tais simulações tem o propósito de avaliar as taxas de recuperação de água capazes de serem obtidas por meio do condensador/processo idealizado. / Single and combined steam cycle thermoelectric plants are power plants that consume high amounts of water, mainly from the cooling and steam generation operations. At the same time, there have been a reduction in the supply of this resource in many regions where thermoelectric units are installed. This fact increases the concern, discussion, and research on the development of technologies and new strategies directed to the mitigation of the consumption and reutilization of water. On the other hand, likewise UTEs are intensive in water consumption, they also produce it at significant amounts of steam from the combustion process, and that amount of water produced is released to the atmosphere together with gases produced (CO2, N2, O2, SO2). In this sense, this work is divided into two distinct parts. The first one is aimed at estimating the amount of water and other components present in the flue gases of thirty Brazilian thermal power plants, of which twenty-two are powered by natural gas (single and combined cycles) and eight moved by coal (single cycles). Such estimates consider environmental conditions of the operation site, typical cycle efficiency, and fuel composition employed. The second part deals with a numerical modeling and simulation, at different operating conditions (pressure, cooling temperature, and water vapor content in the gases), of a double vertical tube condenser operating by natural convection on the cooling side, from which the condensation process of the water vapor is studied in the presence of the other gases produced (known as non-condensable gases, NCG). These simulations have the fundamental purpose of evaluating the rates of condensate that can be recovered by means of the condenser/idealized process.

Os procedimentos de licenciamento ambiental (LA) têm sido criticados pelos agentes econômicos, notadamente por aqueles ligados ao setor energético, por entenderem que a agilidade na análise dos processos de viabilidade ambiental de empreendimentos encontra-se aquém ao esperado. Com o objetivo de analisar a interferência de alguns fatores ligados aos procedimentos de LA sobre o tempo total de tramitação dos processos, foi realizada revisão documental de processos que tramitaram no estado de São Paulo, entre 1998 e 2007, para a instalação de usinas termelétricas a gás natural, com potência superior a 10 MW, e que obtiveram a licença ambiental prévia (LP). Foram obtidos dados quantitativos e informações qualitativas que permitiram verificar que os fatores número de solicitações de informações complementares feitas pelos órgãos ambientais ao empreendedor, número de impactos ambientais identificados no estudo de impacto ambiental (EIA) e número de condicionantes constantes na LP expedida não apresentam uma relação com o tempo de tramitação dos processos. Outros fatores como deficiências no estudo ambiental e a inadequação do local proposto à instalação dos empreendimentos, dadas as restrições ambientais, aparentemente apresentam maior interferência sobre os tempos de tramitação. Diante disto, destaca-se a necessidade de, previamente ao licenciamento, serem elaborados estudos específicos voltados à apresentação de alternativas locacionais que considerem critérios ambientais e critérios econômicos com o mesmo nível de importância para a tomada de decisão. Tais estudos, servindo como base de referência para a escolha da melhor localização para instalação de empreendimentos, tendem a reduzir o tempo total de tramitação dos processos de licenciamento. / The procedures for environmental licensing (LA) have been criticized by economic agents, especially by those connected to the energy sector, because they believe that agility on analysis of the processes of enterprises environmental viability is less than what was expected. In order to analyze the interference of some factors related to LA proceedings on proceeding period, the processes documentary review was held and transited in São Paulo State between 1998 and 2007 for the installation of natural gas thermal power plants with emitted preliminary environmental permit (LP) and output exceeding 10 MW. Quantitative data and qualitative information were obtained which allowed the confirmation that the factors number of requests for additional information made by environmental agencies to the enterprise, number of environmental impacts identified in the environmental impact statement (EIA) and number of constraints in the LP emitted have no relation to the proceeding period. Other factors such as shortcomings in the environmental study and inadequate the proposed site for the installation of enterprises, given the environmental restrictions, apparently show greater interference on the proceeding period. So, there is a necessity, prior to licensing, of being drawn up specific studies focused on the presentation of located alternatives to consider environmental and economic issues with the same level of importance for the decision. Such studies, serving as point of reference for choosing the best location for setting up of enterprises tend to reduce the proceeding period of the licensing processes.

Modelling of the Flexibility of the Swedish Power System / Modellering av flexibiliteten i det svenska elsystemetLi, Ying January 2014 (has links)
This master thesis studies the flexibility of Swedish power system. Because of the increase of fuel price and the environmental issues, renewable energy plays an increasingly important role. Sweden parliament has a planning frame of 30 TWh wind power energy per year in 2020. Wind power generation is largely dependent of wind speed. Since wind speed varies all the time and is hard to be predicted, the introduction of wind power will cause variation of power generation which needs to be balanced. Therefore, it is very important to study the regulation capacity of the power system in order to balance wind power. In Sweden, it is hydropower and thermal power that plays the role as balancing power. In earlier studies at Department of Electric Power Systems KTH, a model has been built to examine the flexibility of Swedish hydropower system. The aim of this thesis is to further develop this original model. In the improved model, the flexibility of thermal power in Sweden is included. Moreover, the improved model further considers the future value of stored water and the impact of delayed running water released from the upstream power plants at the end of simulated week. The whole model is a large short-time planning problem and the objective of this model is to maximize the profits. In this thesis, the profit is expressed as the future value of hydropower minus the generation cost of thermal unit. Besides, the profit also includes the income and the cost for the trading energy. The improved model is built as an optimization problem in GAMS. The time step is one hour and the time span of each simulation is one week. The load consumption and wind power production in each area are given as time series. The constraints considered in this model include the generation limitations, operational constraints of thermal power plants, hydrological coupling of hydropower plants, load balance in each bidding area and transmission capacity. Several case studies are performed in this thesis. Two models, both original model and improved model, will be tested. To find out how large the regulation capacity the Swedish power system has, four different expansion levels of wind power: 0 MW, 4000 MW, 8000 MW and 12000 MW are introduced. The information regarding hydropower is obtained from statistic data in 2009 and the wind power data for each week is coming from scaling the data in earlier studies. The operational constraints of thermal power plants are based on the statistics data from 2008 to 2012. The main finding from these case studies is that spillage will not increase when more wind power is introduced to the system but only increase when the export capacity is reached and the surplus power cannot be exported to other countries. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Swedish power system has good possibilities to balance large amounts of wind power. However, some simplifications and assumptions are made when the model is built, which will give rise to some inaccuracy to the result. Therefore, in the end of this thesis, some future studies are suggested to further improve this model. / I detta examensarbete studeras flexibiliteten i det svenska elsystemet. På grund av ökande bränslepriser och miljöproblem kommer betydelsen av förnybar energi att öka. Den svenska riksdagen har beslutat om ett planeringsmål på 30 TWh vindkraft till år 2020. Elproduktionen från vindkraft beror på vindhastigheten. Eftersom vindhastigheten varierar hela tiden och är svår att förutsäga, medför en ökning av vindkraften variationer i elproduktionen som måste balanseras. Därför är det mycket viktigt att studera elsystemets förmåga att balansera vindkraft. I Sverige sköts denna balansering av vattenkraft och termiska kraftverk. I tidigare studier vid Avdelningen för elektriska energisystem, KTH, har en modell utvecklats för att studera flexibiliteten i det svenska vattenkraftsystemet. Målsättningen med detta arbete är att vidareutveckla den ursprungliga modellen. I den förbättrade modellen inkluderas flexibiliteten i de svenska termiska kraftverken. Dessutom tar den förbättrade modellen hänsyn till värdet av sparat vatten och inverkan av vatten som rinner mellan två kraftverk i slutet av den simulerade veckan. Hela modellen är att stort kotttidsplaneringsproblem och målfunktionen i denna modell är att maximera vinsten. I det här arbetet uttrycks vinsten som värdet av sparat vatten minus produktionskostnaderna i de termiska kraftverken. Dessutom ingår inkomster och konstnader för elhandel. Den förbättrade modellen är uppbyggd som ett optimeringsproblem i GAMS. Tidssteget är en timme och varje simulering omfattar en vecka. Lasten och vindkraftproduktionen i varje område är givna som tidsserier. De bivillkor som ingår i denna modell är begränsningar i elproduktion, driftbegränsningar i termiska kraftverk, hydrologisk koppling mellan vattenkraftverk, lastbalans i varje område och transmissionsbegränsningar. Flera fallstudier genomförs. Två modeller, den ursprungliga och den förbättrade, testas. För att undersöka hur stor balanseringsförmåga det svenska elsystemet har undersöks fyra olika nivåer på vindkraftsutbyggnad: 0 MW, 4000 MW, 8000 MW och 12000 MW. Data för vattenkraften erhålls från statistik för 2009 och vindkraftsdata är skalade data från tidigare studier. Driftbegränsningarna i termiska kraftverk baseras på statistik från 2008 till 2012. Den viktigaste slutsatsen från dessa studier är att spillet inte ökar då mer vindkraft introduceras i systemet, såvida man inte når gränsen för exportkapaciteten och det inte är möjligt att exportera överskottsproduktion till andra länder. Därför kan man dra slutsatsen att det svenska elsystemet har en god förmåga att balansera stora volymer vindkraft. Modellen bygger dock på vissa förenklingar och antaganden, vilket medför en viss osäkerhet i resultaten. Därför föreslås i slutet av rapporten några framtida studier för att förbättra modellen ytterligare.

Energiöverenskommelsen 2016 innefattade ett flertal mål och implikationer för utformningenav det svenska el- och energisystemet. Sveriges energisystem ska vara ekologiskt hållbart,konkurrenskraftigt och försörjningstryggt. Utöver detta så omfattas överenskommelsen av enmålsättning om 100% förnyelsebar elproduktion år 2040, som analyserats i rapporten. Syftetmed rapporten är att belysa problematiken som kan uppkomma vid ett obalanserat elsystemmed avseende på försörjningstrygghet, ekologisk hållbarhet och konkurrenskraft. Här ämnarrapporten även att öka medvetenheten bland aktörer inom det svenska energisystemet ochsynliggöra problematik som kan uppkomma efter år 2040. Den huvudsakliga vetenskapligametoden är en formativ undersökning där intervjuer med kraftbolag genomförts för att få endjupare förståelse för det framtida kraftsystemet. Sedan har även en explorativ undersökninggenomförts genom litteraturstudier. Dessa två undersökningar har tillsammans möjliggjortförklaringar av orsakssamband. Det främsta källmaterialet i rapporten är vetenskapliga artiklarkopplade till el- och energiområdet, där KTH:s Databas Primo samt Google scholar använtssom främsta medium för sökningar. Myndigheter och organisationer som KungligaIngenjörsvetenskapsakademien (IVA) samt North European Energy Perspectives Project(NEPP) har bidragit med information. Resultaten visar att det finns problematik kopplade tilleffektbrist, svängmassa och planerbarhet i och med en nedläggning av kärnkraften, där ensamtida beskattning av avfallsbaserad kraftvärme ytterligare försämrar tillgången på effekt.Resultaten visar även att introducering av vindkraft till systemet ökar det svenskaimportberoendet av el från Tyskland med högre andel fossila inslag, men samtidigt bidrar tillen ökad export där svensk el kan trycka bort smutsig el i andra länder. Vidare beskrivslångsiktighet och ett ökat samarbete mellan systemets aktörer som av stor vikt för utvecklingenav det framtida elsystemet samt ett ökat fokus på implementering av systemtjänster somförsvinner från systemet framöver. Andelen vindkraft beräknas öka till år 2030 samtidigt somkärnkraft och värmekraft, som båda är planerbara kraftslag, beräknas minska. Att målet omförnyelsebar elproduktion införlivas 2040 är inte troligt, då kärnkraftsreaktorerna beräknasdrivas hela deras ekonomiska livslängd vilket löper ut 2045. / The Energy Agreement from 2016 is comprised of several goals for the forming of the Swedishpower system. The Swedish power system should be ecologically sustainable, competitive andbe able to supply power without interruption. Furthermore, this agreement also involves a goalof a 100% renewable power generation in 2040, which has been analyzed in this report. Theaim with his report is to highlight problems that might occur in the case of an unbalanced powersystem with respect to ecological sustainability, competitiveness and safe supply. The reportalso aims to raise awareness amongst the actors in the Swedish energy system and highlightproblems in the future. The main scientific method used in this report is a formativeexamination where interviews with the power company representatives gave a deeperunderstanding of the power system as of now, but also in the future. Another scientific methodused has been an explorative examination throughout the literature studies, where these twomethods combined has enabled explanations and causations. The foremost source ofinformation are scientific studies connected to the power system, where KTH’s database Primoand Google Scholar has been used as a primary medium for searches. Authorities and NGOs,such as the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and North EuropeanEnergy Perspectives Project (NEPP), has also been used as a primary source of information.The results show problems connected to lack of effect, inertia as well as a decrease of plannablepower through the closure of nuclear power plants and thermal power plants due to newtaxation. The result also shows that an introduction of wind power to the Swedish power systemalso decrease the national independence and rely more on import of power, mainly fromGermany which have a higher share of fossil elements. In other situations, it also leads to ahigher export where Swedish power removes fossil elements in other countries. Furthermore,a long-term strategy and increased cooperation between the systems actors is crucial for thedevelopment of the future energy system with focus on implementing system services whichare decreasing with the decrease of plannable power. The share of wind power is expected torise to 2030, at the same time the plannable power, nuclear and thermal power, is expected todrop. The national goal of a renewable power generation is reached by the year 2040 is notlikely, where the current nuclear power reactors will remain their entire economic life spanwhich spans to 2045, with chance of life span extension.

Steam Turbine Optimisation for Solar Thermal Power Plant OperationSpelling, James January 2011 (has links)
The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most important issues facing humanity at the current time, given the strong dependence of social and economic prosperity on the availability of affordable energy and the growing environmental concerns about its production. Solar thermal power has established itself as a viable source of renewable power, capable of generating electricity at some of the most economically attractive rates. Solar thermal power plants are based largely on conventional Rankine-cycle power generation equipment, reducing the technological risk involved in the initial investment. Nevertheless, due to the variable nature of the solar supply, this equipment is subjected to a greater range of operating conditions than would be the case in conventional systems. The necessity of maintaining the operational life of the steam-turbines places limits on the speed at which they can be started once the solar supply becomes available. However, in order to harvest as much as possible of the Sun’s energy, the turbines should be started as quickly as is possible. The limiting factor in start-up speed being the temperature of the metal within the turbines before start-up, methods have been studied to keep the turbines as warm as possible during idle-periods. A detailed model of the steam-turbines in a solar thermal power plant has been elaborated and validated against experimental data from an existing power plant. A dynamic system model of the remainder of the plant has also been developed in order to provide input to the steam-turbine model. Three modifications that could potentially maintain the internal temperature of the steam-turbines have been analysed: installation of additional insulation, increasing the temperature of the gland steam and use of external heating blankets. A combination of heat blankets and gland steam temperature increase was shown to be the most effective, with increases in electricity production of up to 3% predicted on an annual basis through increased availability of the solar power plant. / Hållbar energiförsörjning är för närvarande en av de viktigaste frågorna för mänskligheten. Socialt och ekonomiskt välstånd är starkt kopplat till rimliga energipriser och hållbar energiproduktion. Koncentrerad solenergi är nu etablerad som en tillförlitlig källa av förnybar energi och är också ett ekonomiskt attraktivt alternativ. Koncentrerade solenergikraftverk bygger till stor del på konventionella Rankine-cykel elgeneratorer, vilka minskar de tekniskt relaterade riskerna i den initiala investeringen. På grund av solstrålningens skiftande karaktär utsätts denna utrustning för mer varierade driftsförhållanden, jämfört med konventionella system. För att utnyttja så mycket som möjligt av solens energi bör ångturbinen startas så snabbt som möjligt när solstrålningen blir tillgänglig. Eftersom temperaturen i metalldelar hos turbinerna är den begränsande faktorn, har metoder studerats för att hålla turbinerna så varma som möjligt under tomgångsperioder. En detaljerad modell av ångturbiner i ett solenergikraftverk har utvecklats och validerats mot experimentella data från ett befintligt kraftverk. En dynamisk systemmodell av de övriga delarna av anläggningen har också utvecklats för att ge input till ångturbinsmodellen. Tre modifieringar som potentiellt kan bidra till att upprätthålla den inre temperaturen i ångturbiner har analyserats: montering av ytterligare isolering, ökning av temperaturen hos glänsångan och användning av elvärmefiltar. En kombination av elvärmefiltar och en temperaturökning av glänsångan visade sig vara det mest effektiva alternativet. A comunicação de riscos vem se tornando uma atividade indispensável à formação de uma opinião pública que avalie de uma forma racional e equilibrada a construção de novas centrais nucleares em países que utilizam ou pretendam utilizar esta tecnologia. Favorecidos pela tradição de considerar que a ciência é suficiente para convencer qualquer cidadão ao provar o domínio sobre o processo, as organizações nucleares organizam-se para tal empreendimento dando preferência às explicações técnicas, às minuciosidades relacionadas ao risco destas instalações. Entre os cidadãos comuns, no entanto, a percepção do risco é subjetiva e, portanto não é nivelada com a percepção que tais esforços de comunicação de risco tentam propor. Algumas vezes tal percepção é subestimada e, mais frequentemente, exagerada. A maximização ou até a extrapolação desta da percepção de risco é incentivada pela mídia sensacionalista e movimentos de defesa do meio ambiente. Este trabalho estuda a percepção e a considera como relevante neste esforço de promover a aceitação das usinas termonucleares propondo abandonar o discurso tradicional de riscos e aumentar os esforços em comunicar benefícios, de forma similar à propostas de marketing para produtos, serviços ou, como neste caso, a venda de uma idéia. Há uma revisão bibliográfica de conceitos de risco, de comunicação de riscos e de marketing. Em seguida, um estudo prático com base em centenas de entrevistas com estudantes de diversos níveis da região metropolitana da grande São Paulo. O estudo traz importantes informações sobre a forma como tais pessoas percebem as usinas termonucleares, seus benefícios e quais os atores que as influenciam positiva ou negativamente neste processo. / Public acceptance of the nuclear based electricity generation depends on many variables that can be affected by circumstances and interests, which although seemingly not close to the issue, can strongly influence the final outcome. Explicit or consented positions assumed by opinion makers and some segments of society are subject to episodic waves of interaction through the media and they permeate to the public in a process that is very complex to be fully understood. The modeling of such process is a very complicated undertaking, and gives no assurance of practical results concerning to what, how and who, should be given prominence in the interactions with the media and the general public. In this context, the risk communication has assumed a leading role and, as a consequence, most of the interaction with the public has been done with both defensive language and content. This study has tried a simple and practical approach to the problem, in such a way as to gather some interesting subsidies to treat this issue in a different way. The basic assumption is that in a similar way as individuals base their decision to acquire a new good or service on a \"intuitive\" cost-benefit judgment, society (as a collection of individuals) also manifest their acceptance (or not) with respect to industrial installations and undertakings by comparing risks and benefits according to their perception. An exploratory survey was carried out in a few high schools, colleges and MBA courses in the state of Sâo Paulo, Brazil. A first part was aimed to catch and understand the public perception of. (a) the Intrinsic value of the electric energy, (b) the need to universalize the access to electricity, (c) nuclear plants, (d) the acceptance deficit of nuclear power as compared to other sources of energy, (e) the benefits a nuclear plant can bring, (f) who does and who does not deserves credibility to speak about nuclear plants. The second part was addressed to grasp a picture of more relevant distortions concerned to the public perception of a nuclear power plant risks. The analysis of the survey results and the utilization of a model inspired by the marketing way of value communication suggest a different approach to the communication with the public concerning to nuclear power plants. In this proposal, named Value Strategy, a matrix of risks vs. benefits is segmented in nine regions, where the central region corresponds to the current situation and the others show the possible (hypothetical) future situations after the installation of a nuclear power plant. There are three favorable regions, inductives of acceptance and three unfavorable ones, or routed to rejection. Based on the understanding of the targeted public, as partially revealed by the survey, different nuances can be emphasized in the communication to maximize its effect, without any detour to ethical behavior. Results also disclose various complementary subsidies to help the communication strategy, mainly regarded to the communication agents and to the more effective argument areas according to factors such as: sex, age ranges and educational level.

O cenário brasileiro de geração termelétrica à biomassa: uma avaliação de oportunidades no setor sucroenergético / The brazilian scenario for biomass power generation: an assessment of opportunities in the sugar & ethanol industryZanato, Marco Aurélio 04 March 2016 (has links)
A geração termelétrica a partir da biomassa proveniente do setor sucroenergético brasileiro, além de ser vista como opção para investimentos no setor de energias renováveis, pode contribuir com o suprimento de energia mantendo aspectos inerentes às vantagens sociais, estratégicas e ambientais que o favorecimento de um setor genuinamente desenvolvido no Brasil pode atribuir à matriz de energia elétrica. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é analisar o potencial adicional de energia elétrica que pode ser gerado a partir de recursos do setor sucroenergético. Os objetivos específicos estão em determinar e dimensionar os possíveis combustíveis para geração termelétrica no setor sucroenergético, em determinar quais rotas tecnológicas possibilitam o aumento da geração de energia e em quantificar a geração específica bruta de energia para cada tecnologia selecionada. O método consiste na realização de revisão bibliográfica para alocar o tema de estudo e pesquisa, com posterior elaboração de pesquisas documentais com o intuito de reunir dados e estimativas necessárias ao desenvolvimento do cálculo, coletando dados em publicações de institutos, entidades, empresas e consultores (dados de estimativas de produção de cana-de-açúcar para o período projetado e a definição dos recursos combustíveis e dos recursos tecnológicos). A seguir, para cada tecnologia de geração de energia elétrica, são apresentados arranjos com seus respectivos balanços de energia, índices de geração específica bruta de energia para as condições de cogeração e de geração de energia elétrica pura, vantagens, desvantagens e a inserção destas tecnologias ao longo do período estimado. Os resultados apontam que a expansão da produção de cana-de-açúcar, baseada na expansão agrícola e no aumento da produtividade, bem como o incremento tecnológico dos sistemas termelétricos de potência disponíveis comercialmente para o setor sucroenergético podem permitir a projeção de cenários com 26 GW de capacidade instalada com a utilização do bagaço e 33 GW com a inserção de palha. A importância deste trabalho está relacionada com a apresentação do estado da arte da tecnologia disponível para a geração termelétrica a partir do setor sucroenergético, pelo fato de apresentar os índices de geração específica para diferentes cenários de disponibilidade combustível e de tecnologias aplicáveis e por permitir análises entre os grupos tecnológicos e as biomassas disponíveis para a geração. / The biomass power generation in the Brazilian sugar & ethanol industry, besides being seen as an option for investments in the renewable energy sector, may contribute to the energy supply while maintaining aspects related to social, strategic and environmental advantages that the support of a sector genuinely developed in Brazil can attribute to the electricity matrix. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the surplus electricity that can be generated from resources of the sugar & ethanol industry. The specific aims are to determine and measure the potential fuels for power generation in the sugar & ethanol industry, to determine which technological routes enable an increase in the power generation and to quantify the specific gross power generation for each selected technology. The method consists of conducting a literature review in order to place the subject of study, with further development of documentary research in order to collect data necessary for developing the calculation, collecting data in publications from institutes, organizations, companies and consultants (sugarcane production data estimates for the foreseen period of study and the definition of fuel and technology resources for power generation). Afterwards, for each power generation technology, arrangements are presented with their respective energy balances, the specific gross power generation for the cases of process cogeneration and power generation stand-alone, the advantages, disadvantages and the inclusion of these technologies over the projected period. The results show that the expansion of production of sugarcane, based on agricultural expansion and increased productivity as well as the technological improvement of commercially available power generation systems for the sugarcane industry may allow scenarios with 26 GW of installed capacity using the sugarcane bagasse and 33 GW with the insertion of the sugarcane straw. The significance of this work is related to the presentation of the state of the art technology available for the thermoelectric generation from sugarcane industry. It is also connected to the fact of presenting an index of specific power generation for different scenarios of fuel availability and applicable technologies as well as enabling analysis of technological groups and available biomass for power generation.
