Ondes de torsion dans le noyau terrestre

Le champ magnétique terrestre a des sources externes et internes à la Terre. Sur des échelles de temps décennales, ce champ présente des variations brusques: les "secousses géomagnétiques". Une des causes possibles aurait sa source dans le noyau de la Terre: les ondes de torsion. Après une introduction de ces ondes (ondes d'Alfvèn, équation d'onde), la propagation de ces ondes est étudiée dans un noyau avec ou sans graine. Enfin un mécanisme d'excitation d'origine externe à la Terre de ces ondes dans le noyau est étudié via les systèmes de courant de l'ionosphère et de la magnétosphère.

Courbes elliptiques et applications cryptographiques à la diffusion numérique sécurisée

L'objet de cette thèse est la diffusion numérique sécurisée réalisée à l'aide de courbes elliptiques. Le premier chapitre est consacré au calcul de points de l-torsion sur une courbe elliptique définie sur un corps fini de caractéristique p. Plus précisément, nous combinons un algorithme rapide de calcul d'isogénies dû à Bostan, Morain, Salvy et Schost avec l'approche p-adique suivie par Joux et Lercier. Nous obtenons ainsi le premier algorithme valide sans limitation sur l et p dont la complexité est similaire à celle de l'algorithme proposé par Bostan et al. Dans le deuxième chapitre, nous développons un modèle générique de groupes avec couplage qui généralise les modèles présentés auparavant dans la littérature. Nous fournissons un cadre général permettant de prouver dans ce modèle les hypothèses cryptographiques reliées au problème du logarithme discret sur des groupes avec couplage. Dans le troisième chapitre, nous proposons et étudions un nouveau schéma de diffusion pour des récepteurs sans état. À la différence des schémas s'appuyant sur des techniques de recouvrement par des sous-ensembles définis par des arbres binaires, notre schéma considère que l'ensemble des récepteurs destinataires d'un message est décrit par des attributs. La taille du chiffré est linéaire en le nombre d'attributs utilisés dans cette description, mais ne dépend pas du nombre de destinataires. Par rapport à d'autres schémas basés sur des attributs, le déchiffrement nécessite des capacités de calculs bien plus faibles. Le dernier chapitre est consacré à un schéma de chiffrement avec traçage de traîtres, c'est-à-dire conçu pour lutter contre le piratage dans la distribution sécurisée de contenus vers de nombreux destinataires. Nous proposons un nouveau schéma, utilisant des techniques de marquage de contenu, présentant un taux de chiffrement constant et une sécurité contre des décodeurs pirates puissants. Une particularité de ce schéma est la possibilité pour un destinataire de déchiffrer à la volée le contenu transmis.

Nonlinear aeroelastic analysis of aircraft wing-with-store configurations

The author examines nonlinear aeroelastic responses of air vehicle systems. Herein, the governing equations for a cantilevered configuration are developed and the methods of analysis are explored. Based on the developed nonlinear bending-bending-torsion equations, internal resonance, which is possible in future air vehicles, and the possible cause of limit cycle oscillations of aircraft wings with stores are investigated. The nonlinear equations have three types of nonlinearities caused by wing flexibility, store geometry and aerodynamic stall, and retain up to third-order nonlinear terms. The internal resonance conditions are examined by the Method of Multiple Scales and demonstrated by time simulations. The effect of velocity change for various physical parameters and stiffness ratio is investigated through bifurcation diagrams derived from Poinar´e maps. The dominant factor causing limit cycle oscillations is the stiffness ratio between in-plane and out-of-plane motion.

In this thesis, we study the expected mean of the torsion angle of an n-stepequilateral random walk in 3D. We consider the random walk is generated within a confining sphere or without a confining sphere: given three consecutive vectors →e1 , →e2 , and →e3 of the random walk then the vectors →e1 and →e2 define a plane and the vectors →e2 and →e3 define a second plane. The angle between the two planes is called the torsion angle of the three vectors. Algorithms are described to generate random walks which are used in a particular space (both without and with confinement). The torsion angle is expressed as a function of six variables for a random walk in both cases: without confinement and with confinement, respectively. Then we find the probability density functions of these six variables of a random walk and demonstrate an explicit integral expression for the expected mean torsion value. Finally, we conclude that the expected torsion angle obtained by the integral agrees with the numerical average torsion obtained by a simulation of random walks with confinement.

The scalar tensor theory of gravitation is constructed in D dimensions in all possible geometries of spacetime. In Riemannian geometry, theory of gravitation involves a spacetime metric g with a torsion-free, metric compatible connection structure. If the geometry is non-Riemannian, then the gauge theory of gravitation can be constructed with a spacetime metric g and a connection structure with torsion. In non-Riemannian theory, connections may be metric compatible or non-metric compatible. It is shown that theory of gravitation which involves non-metric compatible connection and torsion, can be rewritten in terms of torsion-free theory. It is also shown that scalar tensor theory can be reformulated in Einstein frame by applying a conformal transformation. By adding an antisymmetric axion field, the axi-dilaton theory is studied in Riemannian and non-Riemannian geometries. Motion of massive test particles is examined in all these geometries. The static, spherically symmetric and stationary, Kerr-type axially symmetric solutions of the scalar tensor and axi-dilaton theories are presented. As an application, the geodesic elliptical orbits based on a torsion-free connection and the autoparallel orbits based on a connection with a torsion, are examined in Kerr Brans-Dicke geometry. Perihelion shift of the elliptical orbit is calculated in both cases and the results are compared.

Torsion in Helically Reinforced Prestressed Concrete Poles

Reinforced concrete poles are commonly used as street lighting and electrical transmission poles. Typical concrete lighting poles experience very little load due to torsion. The governing design loads are typically bending moments as a result of wind on the arms, fixtures, and the pole itself. The Canadian pole standard, CSA A14-07 relates the helical reinforcing to the torsion capacity of concrete poles. This issue and the spacing of the helical reinforcing elements are investigated. Based on the ultimate transverse loading classification system in the Canadian standard, the code provides a table with empirically derived minimum helical reinforcing amounts that vary depending on: 1) the pole class and 2) distance from the tip of the pole. Research into the minimum helical reinforcing requirements in the Canadian code has determined that the values were chosen empirically based on manufacturer’s testing. The CSA standard recommends two methods for the placement of the helical reinforcing: either all the required helical reinforcing is wound in one direction or an overlapping system is used where half of the required reinforcing is wound in each direction. From a production standpoint, the process of placing and tying this helical steel is time consuming and an improved method of reinforcement is desirable. Whether the double helix method of placement produces stronger poles in torsion than the single helix method is unknown. The objectives of the research are to analyze the Canadian code (CSA A14-07) requirements for minimum helical reinforcement and determine if the Canadian requirements are adequate. The helical reinforcement spacing requirements and the effect of spacing and direction of the helical reinforcing on the torsional capacity of a pole is also analyzed. Double helix and single helix reinforcement methods are compared to determine if there is a difference between the two methods of reinforcement. The Canadian pole standard (CSA A14-07) is analyzed and compared to the American and German standards. It was determined that the complex Canadian code provides more conservative spacing requirements than the American and German codes however the spacing requirements are based on empirical results alone. The rationale behind the Canadian code requirements is unknown. A testing program was developed to analyze the spacing requirements in the CSA A14-07 code. Fourteen specimens were produced with different helical reinforcing amounts: no reinforcement, single and double helical spaced CSA A14-07 designed reinforcement, and single helical specimens with twice the designed spacing values. Two specimens were produced based on the single helical reinforcement spacing. One specimen was produced with helical reinforcement wound in the clockwise direction and another with helical reinforcement in the counter clockwise direction. All specimens were tested under a counter clockwise torsional load. The clockwise specimens demonstrated the response of prestressed concrete poles with effective helical reinforcement whereas the counter clockwise reinforced specimens represented theoretically ineffective reinforcement. Two tip sizes were produced and tested: 165 mm and 210 mm. A sudden, brittle failure was noted for all specimens tested. The helical reinforcement provided no post-cracking ductility. It was determined that the spacing and direction of the helical reinforcement had little effect on the torsional capacity of the pole. Variable and scattered test results were observed. Predictions of the cracking torque based on the ACI 318-05, CSA A23.3-04 and Eurocode 2 all proved to be unconservative. Strut and tie modelling of the prestressing transfer zone suggested that the spacing of the helical steel be 40 mm for the 165 mm specimens and 53 mm for the 210 mm specimens. Based on the results of the strut and tie modelling, it is likely that the variability and scatter in the test results is due to pre-cracking of the specimens. All the 165 mm specimens and the large spaced 210 mm specimens were inadequately reinforced in the transfer zone. The degree of pre-cracking in the specimen likely causes the torsional capacity of the pole to vary. The strut and tie model results suggest that the requirements of the Canadian code can be simplified and rationalized. Similar to the American spacing requirements of 25 mm in the prestressing transfer zone, a spacing of 30 mm to 50 mm is recommended dependent on the pole tip size. Proper concrete mixes, adequate concrete strengths, prestressing levels, and wall thickness should be emphasized in the torsional CSA A14-07 design requirements since all have a large impact on the torsional capacity of prestressed concrete poles. Recommendations and future work are suggested to conclusively determine if direction and spacing have an effect on torsional capacity or to determine the factors causing the scatter in the results. The performance of prestressed concrete poles reinforced using the suggestions presented should also be further investigated. Improving the ability to predict the cracking torque based on the codes or reducing the scatter in the test results should also be studied.

Computer Simulation of Interaction between Protein and Organic Molecules

Docking is one of the methods in virtual screeing. Studies from around 1980 to now, many docking software have been developed, but these software have many short comings. The software currently used for docking have many disadvantage: poor efficiency, rigid structure of the proteins and the ligands, poor accuracy, without the polarization after binding, leading virtual screening is still stuck in a supporting role. Our experiment with new method improves those shortcomings of docking. With this new method, we obtain the following improvements in docking process: better efficiency, flexible structure of the proteins and the ligands, better accuracy. In the depression-related protein docked with traditional Chinese medicine test. We change the conformations of ligands with the shapes of active sites before posing, this makes the conformation of complex much more reasonable, even more complicated, large ligands. In the experiment of random sites docking, we found a possible path for compounds traveling into active sites. We illustrate a docking area by linking all possible docking sites. The lead compound may not successfully travel into active site when this area is occupied by other proteins or ligands. In the docking experiment with side-chain rotation, we rotate the torsion angle to make side chains relax. We obtained a similar result with molecular dynamics, and saved a lot of time.
