Phase-Transformation-Induced Twins in Lanthanum Gallate Perovskite (LaGaO3)

Wang, Wei-Lin 05 July 2006 (has links)
Pressureless-sintered lanthanum gallate (LaGaO3) ceramics have been analyzed using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), and electron-backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Transformation-induced twin domains are generated by solid-state phase transition upon cooling from the rhombohedral (r, space group R c) to orthorhombic (o, space group Pnma) symmetry at 145oC. Four types of transformation twins {101}, {121},

The study of transformation strategy, execution ¡® operation performance ¡V Regarding to petrochemical industry.

Yeh, Jung-i 05 September 2006 (has links)
Business transformation has become the sole means of survival for today¡¦s traditional businesses in Taiwan that were, once upon a time, star performers. So challenging has the business environment become that even today¡¦s star performers¡Xthe high tech and advanced industries¡Xwill someday become yesterday's news as well. The lessons of business transformation, therefore, are applicable to all businesses. Old school thinkers used to emphasize the impact company strategies had over the operation performance of a company, that the right strategies could alone produce effectively and efficiently performing companies. However, it has been proven over the years that the same strategies adopted by different companies could produce vastly different results. Execution has proven to be a bigger deciding factor in the success or failure of an enterprise. This study aims to demonstrate that proper and effective execution of the right strategies plays a critical role in deciding the future of a company, and success of its transformation. This study utilizes case studies, investigating how the petrochemical companies in study choose their transformation strategies, and how the choice of execution methods affects their operating performance after effecting transformation strategies. It also aims to understand the cause and effect relationship between the choice of transformation strategies, execution methods and the operating performance. Interviews and analysis have been carried out in the conduct of this study. The following is a list of major conclusions: 1.A continuously competitive company is able to deliver a high operation performance. 2.Strategies towards business transformation impact the company¡¦s operation performance. In the petrochemicals industry, the most effective strategies towards business transformation include, in order of impact, vertical integration, globalization, multi-faceted strategy. Horizontal integration is not a recommended strategy. 3.Execution affects the operation performance. Petrochemical companies with effective execution deliver high operation performance. 4.Manpower is any company¡¦s important resource. A high operation performance is also a result of effective manpower. 5.Companies that have been successful in its business transformation are equipped with leadership abilities, high quality of manpower and astute leadership by top management are critical factors to a successful company.

A ZigBee Transceiver Used in 2.45 GHz Band and a 2K/4K/8K Multimode Fast Fourier Transformation for DVB-H Receivers

Lee, Lung-hsuan 11 July 2007 (has links)
This thesis includes two topics. The first topic is a ZigBee transceiver used in 2.45 GHz band design. The second topic is a 2K/4K/8K multimode fast Fourier transformation ( FFT ) for DVB-H demodulators. The first topic includes simulations and hardware design. The chip is a physical layer design compliant with IEEE Std 802.15.4 standard, including a transmitter and a receiver for 2.45 GHz band. The measurement of the maximum power on silicon is about 731 £gW at 8 MHz. It is proved to be compliant with the low power consumption requirement specified by the standard. The second topic includes simulations and hardware design of an FFT for DVB-H demodulators. This processor is based on a pipeline architecture with radix-2, radix-22 and radix-23 computation element. We propose one sharing butterfly architecture to be used in the variable length FFT processor.

Biolistic and agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of immature and mature embryos of spring wheat cultivar Saratovskaya-29

Kopbayev, Arman A. 29 August 2005 (has links)
Plant transformation provides a promising methodology of introducing new genes that encode desirable traits to a wide range of crop plants. Success in genetic transformation has been achieved in many of the important crop species, such as soybean, cotton, rice, corn. However, wheat, one of the major crops of the world, has been considered to be difficult to transform via either Agrobacterium or biolistic bombardment (Rakszegi et al., 2001). There have been limited studies on A. tumefaciens-mediated transformation of cereals, including wheat, because of the overall refractory character of host-pathogen interactions between Agrobacterium and the cereal plants (Gould et al., 1991; Hiei et al., 1994; Cheng et al., 1997). While the genetic transformation of rice using Agrobacterium has become routine, only a few successful studies of Agrobacterium- mediated transformation of wheat have been reported, and these involved a model spring wheat, Triticum aestivum cultivar Bobwhite (Cheng et al., 1997). Model genotypes are developed for ease of plant regeneration in tissue culture and both Agrobacterium and biolistic mediated transformation methods require regeneration of plants in tissue culture. More success has been achieved in obtaining fertile transgenic wheat plants by particle bombardment, or biolistics method (Vasil et al., 1992; Weeks et al., 1993; Becker et al., 1994; Zhou et al., 1995; Altpeter et al., 1996). Wheat plants of the model system cultivar Bobwhite were used in most of these studies as well. The primary objective of this study was to use the callus-based transformation procedures mentioned above with a non-model cultivar of hexaploid spring wheat Saratovskaya-29, widely grown in Kazakhstan, to test the genotype dependence of the previously developed transformation protocols with respect to stable transfer of DNA and regeneration of transgenic plants. The spring wheat cultivar Saratovskaya-29 (Albidum-24/ Lutescens-55-11) was chosen for the study as being one of the most widely grown wheat cultivars both in Russia and Kazakhstan. It was bred in early 50??s in the Research Institute of the South-East, Saratov. Because of its drought resistance and good baking quality traits, Saratovskaya-29 reached a peak of nearly 21.2 mln ha in the former USSR in 1996 (Martynov and Dobrotvorskaya, 1996). Economical importance of this cultivar makes it an appropriate candidate for further improvement of economically significant traits. Another objective of the study described was to compare the transformation efficiencies and inheritance in the transgenic plants produced.

Molecular Packing in Crystalline Poly(9,9-di-n-hexyl-2,7-fluorene)

Hsieh, Cheng-Chang 13 June 2008 (has links)
By means of molecular simulation, we propose possible packing models for £\ and £\¡¬ phases in poly(9,9-di-n-hexyl-2,7-fluorene) (PFH). Simulated multi-chain unit cell structures are compared with experimental diffraction patterns of PFH where the unit cell structure (and the space group) of the high-temperature £\ crystals was identified as monoclinic (C2) and that of £\¡¬ phase (kinetically favored upon programmed cooling) triclinic (P1). Results show that £\ phase prefers to adopt bi-radial side-chain conformation whereas the £\¡¬ phase prefers tetra-radial one. Both models exhibit embracing behavior between adjacent chains in spite of differences in inter-chain distance. A group of embracing chains aligned along b-axis in £\ phase and the comparatively greater inter-chain distance in £\¡¬ phase are consistent with the observed faceting along (100) planes and the tensile cracking along the a-axis. A qualitative analysis of co-existing £\ and £\¡¬ phases reproduce the [001] SAED pattern quite well. In addition, we also show that arbitrary alternation of 40o and 140o in dihedral angle between neighboring monomers generates equally stable single-chain conformations in this case of linear alkyl side-chains.

A Study on the Management Strategies for Biotech Pets: Taking the Glowing Ornamental Fish Marketed by Company A as an Example

LIN, YU-HO 15 July 2008 (has links)
Abstract The genetic engineering industry for ornamental fish refers to the industry that applies biotechnology to ornamental fish to develop new species of ornamental fish. This research has determined that the features of such industry include: high added values, long time for development, long earning period, R&D-oriented, under numerous restrictions and with less energy dependency. According to a literature review and profile of the company, the research found that Taiwan has achieved significant results in terms of genetic transformation and cloning. Taiwan is one of the best countries when it comes to research and development abilities. Glowing fish play an important role in the upgrading of the ornamental fish industry. Also, the government encourages investment in biotechnology industries. In all biotechnology industries, agricultural biotechnology has lower risks and faster output than other medical biotechnology products, and hence agricultural biotechnology has greater development potential. The research suggests that the ornamental fish dealers enhance the participation to industry ¡Vacademy cooperation, cooperating with Academia Sinica, Fisheries Research institute, and the technological platform of ornamental fish genetic engineering industry, to accelerate the schedule of the research and the development of new species. In addition, facing the doubts related to Living Modified Organisms (LMO) in the international community, ornamental fish producers need to develop new technologies to sterilize genetically modified ornamental fish and create a safety evaluation and certification system for genetic-transformation of aqua-cultural animals to avoid or minimize any possible damage of LMO to the environment. The Radon transform on the rotation group

Hielscher, Ralf 23 July 2009 (has links) (PDF)

Saxeggen, Tomas January 2007 (has links)
This work is the first step in a long process, which final goal is to develop a method that automatically allows you to go from a non-generic object-oriented program to a generic one. Preferably, support for such a conversion should be implemented in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). An analogy could be drawn to the factorisation of classes, an operation supported by the most common IDEs today. As a first step in an ongoing process, this work is meant to be a non-trivial example for future analysis. The example project constitutes of a non-generic and a generic graph package, which is written in Java 1.4.2 and Java 5.0 respectively. The thesis describes the transition from the non-generic to the generic solution in a systematic and repeatable way. The idea is that this work could be applied to other languages and applications in the future, as well.</p>
