Den här studien utforskar deltagande kring det populärkulturella fenomenetThe Twilight Saga. Ett fenomen som både utgörs av fandom och kommersiell franchise. Fokus ligger på hur praktiker utvecklats fördeltagande på Internet. Materialet är både fansidor ägda och administreradeav enskilda fans och webbsidor som representerar aktörer inom franchise.Syftet är att undersöka relationen mellan fandom och franchise. Det för attundersöka karaktären av deltagande när fans har sina egna kanaler för attpublicera och producera material. Fans beskrivs teoretiskt både sompotentiella aktivister i en kommersiell mediekultur, som skriver över denmed sina egna texter, eller så karaktäriseras fans deltagande som ett understödjande deltagande som stärker kommersiella intressen. Metoden är en modifiering av Foot & Schneiders webbsfärsanalys. Genomatt studera hur relationerna konkret manifesterar sig i webbläsaren beröra frågeställningarna; På vilket sätt associerar aktörer inom och mellan fandom och franchise med varandra och till synes med vilka intentioner? Vilken typav innehåll samproduceras av fandom och franchise? Hur används struktureronline för att mobilisera fans offline? Hur hanteras spänningen mellansjälvständighet och kontroll när fans blir medproducenter av ettpopulärkulturellt fenomen? Studien visar att trots att fansidorna agerar självständigt är deras deltagandeett understödjande av kommersiella intressen. Fans kreativitet inkorporeras ifranchisen och ger både underhållningsvärde och stärker varumärket”Twilight”. Med fansen fascination för kändiskultur upprätthålles också ensymbolisk hierarki mellan producenterna av den ”primära texten” ochfansen. Relationer som kan ses som en inkarnation av de relationer mellanpubliker och producenter förknippade med massmedier.

Uppsatsen är en jämförande studie av Svindlande höjder och Twilight-serien avseende verkens huvudkaraktärer Catherine och Heathcliff respektive Bella och Edward. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om, och i så fall vilka likheter det finns mellan dessa två verks huvudkaraktärer. Karaktärerna jämförs ur ett antal utvalda perspektiv och slutsatsen är att det finns flera betydande likheter.

The first vampire film I ever saw was Interview with a vampire. “I haven’t been human for two hundred years”, opened up not only the film, but a whole new world I knew nothing about. The world, as it were, opened its doors to me again after I had seen the film adaption of Stephenie Meyers Twilight. I decided to write down a few thoughts, capture my frame of mind, and these paragraphs then turned into a text: “I tankarnas skal”.               When I did research for this essay I discovered that my text held certain similarities with the modern vampire novel. Because my story is so closely connected to Meyers Twilight, my character Jennie projects the story of human Bella and vampire Edward onto her own life; I have chosen to focus on Twilight and the Twilight-saga as primary sources of comparison with my own text. Jennies healthy philosophies, after seeing Twilight, soon turns into disturbing thoughts in a mind damaged by her unkind reality. Jennie starts hallucinating, seeing Edward everywhere, and this is the object of my investigation. Ever since the legend of the vampire was transformed in the literary world, vampires have acted as symbols for everything between Aids and terrorist threats. Therefore I examined my Edward to see what symbolic role he had in my story.               I chose three themes to further explore the connection between my text and Meyers Twilight-saga, thereby unveiling the warning-signs that Edward personify, on Jennie’s road to her death.

Die ‚’Twilight’‘-Saga der Autorin Stephenie Meyer, welche die Geschichte von dem Vampir Edward und seiner menschlichen Geliebten erzählt, hat eine neue Phase des Vampir-Genres eingeläutet. Fernab von gesellschaftlich verankerten Mythen um die geheimnisvollen und gefährlichen Blutsauger, kreiert die Autorin ein neues Vampirbild. Das einst rücksichtslose, egoistische Monstrum ist gezähmt und tritt in Form eines aufopferungsvollen Liebhabers in Erscheinung. Für die Zielgruppe, weibliche Teenager und junge Erwachsene, ist Edward, der Prototyp des neuen Vampirs, schnell zum Idol avanciert. Rund um die ‚’Twilight’‘-Saga hat sich somit eine riesige, internationale Fangemeinschaft gebildet, die vorwiegend über das Internet den Vampirismus-Diskurs zum populärkulturellen Gegenstand werden ließ. Die neue Vampir-Begeisterung stellt jedoch nur den vorläufigen Höhepunkt einer langen Genre-Geschichte dar. Bereits seit der Entstehung des Vampir-Glaubens übt der Mythos vom blutsaugenden Wesen eine enorme Faszination auf die Menschen aus. Grund dafür ist seine Anlehnung an menschliche, meist tabuisierte Bedürfnisse und Wünsche, die mit Hilfe der Vampir-Metapher zum Ausdruck gebracht werden können. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit soll es sein, die Entwicklung des Vampir-Genres und seine Funktionen im Rahmen gesellschaftlicher Kontexte nachzuzeichnen. Zu diesem Zweck erfolgt zunächst ein kurzer Überblick über die Entstehung des Vampir-Mythos und eine Charakterisierung des ‚klassischen‘ Vampirs, wie er im Volksglauben verankert ist. Im Anschluss soll das Vampir-Genre als multidimensionales und historisch variables Genre analysiert werden. Der Schwerpunkt der Betrachtung liegt hierbei auf dem Vampirfilm, welcher sich im Laufe seiner Entwicklung vom Sub-Genre des Horrorfilms zum zielgruppenspezifischen Unterhaltungsmittel ausdifferenziert hat. Abschließend erfolgt eine Skizzierung der aktuellen Vampir-Begeisterung, welche durch die Verfilmung der ’Twilight’-Romane von Stephenie Meyer ausgelöst wurde.

In this article I examine the representations of South African Indian women in Farida Karodia's Daughters of the Twilight and Shamim Sarif's the world unseen. My contention is that each author chooses a different mode of representation and that certain features of these representations suggest both the different relationship each author has with South Africa and the differences in the times of production of the novels. Thus while both novels are set in the 1950s, Karodia, whose site of enunciation is the 'interregnum' in the 1980s, imagines the agency of her women quite differently from Sarif, who writes from a 'post-anti-apartheid' site of enunciation in the late 1990s. I analyse and compare the relationships between characters (men and women; women and women) and look at the cultural and political significance of mixed-race figures, concentrating on uncovering the mechanisms of power and their effects. The focus of this thesis is how fanfiction, an underground subculture of web literature written about popular books, films, television shows, and comics, treats the original works it derives from. In this study I will examine the ways in which fans reshape the original stories of the works they write about, and the ways in which they do not, and speculate the reasons they have chosen to do so. This project examines fanfiction surrounding three young adult novels: Twilight, The Hunger Games, and Harry Potter. I examine each of these works and their respective fanfiction in order to highlight important themes in each work and problems inherent in each story to account for the changes fanfiction writers make in their literature. I have chosen one overarching theme in the fanfiction in each fandom and will explore why fanfiction authors have overwhelmingly chosen to change the source material to suit that theme.

Approximately 65 vessel reefs have been deployed intentionally in Broward County, Florida since 1982. The purpose of these deployments was to enhance fish stocks for recreational fisheries and sport divers. The other main goal was to reduce pressure on heavily exploited natural reefs. Several studies have been conducted at both artificial and natural reef sites in the area; however, none of these have focused on nocturnal fish assemblages (Ferro et al., 2005; Arena et al., 2007). The goal of our study was to characterize nocturnal fish assemblages on vessel and natural reefs in Broward County. This data, in addition to the existing diurnal data, will provide a more comprehensive understanding of fish assemblage structure on artificial and natural reefs. Comparisons among vessel and natural nocturnal fish assemblages and previous diurnal studies were made. Abundance was greater on diurnal natural and vessel reefs when compared to nocturnal. Abundance was also greater on nocturnal vessel reefs than nocturnal natural reefs. The twilight period on vessel reefs was characterized by high abundance of piscivores and a significantly greater abundance of grunts than during the nocturnal period. The abundance of grunts supports their movement during this time to surrounding sand flats to feed. The vertical relief of the vessel reefs seemed to appeal to an abundance of pelagic fishes as well as planktivores. Distinctly different fish assemblages were seen between nocturnal natural and vessel reefs, as well as between diurnal and nocturnal natural reefs and vessel reefs. Fisheries-important fishes were more abundant during the day, but also more abundant on vessel reefs than natural reefs. Although vessel reefs do not mimic the natural reefs studied or support the same fish assemblages, they are providing habitat for diverse nocturnal fish assemblages.

Uppsatsen undersöker Twilight, skriven av Stephenie Meyer, utifrån de intersektionella kategorierna ålder, kön och klass i förhållande till relationen mellan protagonisterna Bella och Edward. Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på hur ålder, kön och klass påverkar relationen. Vidare syftar uppsatsen till att undersöka hur ålder, kön och klass påverkar maktförhållandet i relationen utifrån Foucaults maktteori. Resultatet visar att ålder, kön och klass genomgående i Twilight försätter Bella i en underordnad maktposition, med några få undantag. Många normer gällande de tre kategorierna reproduceras i relationen mellan Bella och Edward, vilket i sin tur ger upphov till en maktobalans. Med anledning av detta resultat bör Twilight läsas kritiskt ur ett intersektionellt perspektiv, men kan med fördel användas i klassammanhang för att belysa och ifrågasätta normer rörande t. ex. ålder, kön och klass.

Literary tourism refers to any travel inspired by literature. This dissertation considers literary tourism from the perspective of a contemporary literary tourism attraction. It investigates the origins of literary tourism both in the historical context as well as in academic writing as interdisciplinary research between geography and literature. The current state of literary tourism research is also considered and the main research themes at present are identified, that is, authenticity and who the literary tourists are. This study also considers what the future might hold for literary tourism by looking at popular contemporary examples, including the works of J.K. Rowling, G.R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dan Brown, Stieg Larsson and L.J. Smith. In this context, literary tourism’s reciprocal relationship with film tourism is unpacked. This dissertation then moves on to discuss the main focus of this investigation. A mere decade ago, the world was unaware of a book series called The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. Yet in a few short years, the literary tourism associated with this series has turned a small town in northwest Washington State into a tourism phenomenon. This study considers the development, extent and impact of literary tourism on this town, called Forks. Syftet med den här uppsatsen bygger på en gestaltningsanalys av vampyrerna Edward Culleni Twilight och Stefan Salvatore i The Vampire Diaries där fokuset handlar om hur dessavampyrkaraktärer gestaltas genom olika aspekter som utseende, kroppsspråk, humör,beteende och agerande. Jens Eders karaktärsklocka är den metod jag använt mig av för attgöra analysen på vampyrkaraktärerna. Vampyrernas samspel med andra karaktärer är ocksåen viktig del i analysen. Både samspelet med andra vampyrer och samspelet med människor.Resultatet visar att den moderna vampyren har en större utsträckning mot den “klassiska”vampyren som nästintill bara har monstruösa drag utan någon empati eller ångest över sinahandlingar. Både Stefan och Edward har både monstruösa och mänskliga skildringar i derasgestaltning som både följt med genom historien eller uppkommit under modern tid.Vampyrer har traditionellt setts som hjärtlösa monster som bara dödar. Så ser det inte ut idagen moderna vampyrfilmer och serier.
