Paraphilic Coercive Disorder : Behavioral Markers and Validity of Diagnostic Criteria

Agalaryan, Anaida 03 1900 (has links)
The present dissertation aims to address the shortcomings in the current literature on Paraphilic Coercive Disorder (PCD) by focusing on two main objectives: assessing the validity of the diagnostic criteria proposed for inclusion in the DSM-5 and investigating behavioral markers. To this end, archival files of rapists who offended against adult women were studied. The thesis consists of three empirical articles. The first article presents a succinct account of some of the key results emanating from the analyses. The second article (N = 47) examines the observed frequencies of PCD and assesses the validity and impact of relying on minimum number of victims as a diagnostic criterion. Furthermore, a number of variables of interest are examined to determine predictors of sexual recidivism. The third article (N = 52) compares diagnostic groups on a number of offense conduct characteristics – specifically sexual acts and violent behaviors – in an attempt to identify behavioral markers associated with rape-proneness that could aid with the diagnosis of PCD. Similarly, rapist typologies were created by classifying the sample into groups of sex offenders based on their sexual acts, on one hand, and violent behaviors, on the other hand. Consequently, their characteristics and association with PCD were examined. Our results do not support the reliance on number of victims. Our findings suggest that rapists with PCD are more sexually intrusive and resort to less violence overall than sex offenders without such a diagnosis and that exhibitionism and fondling could serve as behavioral markers for PCD. Moreover, rapists with PCD are characterised more by indecent request, exhibitionism, fondling, masturbation, attempted intercourse and digital penetration rather than by intercourse and sodomy. In terms of violent behaviors, rapists with PCD resort less to the use of weapons, seem not to hit their victims, and are likely characterised more by manipulation rather than by the use of death threats, excessive force and weapons. In sum, the present study highlights the necessity of relying on a combination of assessment methods in order to improve diagnostic and discriminant validity of PCD.

Réel et représentation à l'épreuve de la fiction dans l'oeuvre de Michael Haneke / Reality and representation : the fiction subjected to their test : in the Work of Michael Haneke

Boneva, Ralitza 16 March 2012 (has links)
Our study suggests that during the last two decades, 1989-2009, with Michael Haneke's movies realized for the cinema, decisive innovations appear in the contemporary fiction. New forms upset the narrative, dispute the representation, and reveal what in the conventional fiction became stereotype. New reports between reality and representation, between visible, invisible and unbearable to see, between the instance of the statement and the spectator come into play. New possibilities open on the way to the development of the film fiction. They widen the possibilities for investigation of the reality on the screen.

Středověké sklo v Praze / Medieval Glass in Prague

Prokopová, Anna January 2012 (has links)
This work considers finds of medieval glass in the historic centre of Prague on the basis of archaeological material from the National Herritage Institute excavations. Besides the typology of glass vessels, special attention is paid to the concerning the social level of the society of that time, resp. the study of glass imports that can inform us of the commercial or cultural contacts of the given locality. Especially the enameled glass play an important role in studies of the extraordinary social and economic status. The archaeological evidences of medieval glass has been found in Prague since the end of the 19 th century. The end of the sixtieths brought large finds of medieval glass fragments which most has not been studied as yet. Some of them are included into this work, which is aimed at the region of Old and New Town, whereas the finds of Prague Castle has been left aside. In the study of the popularity of glass tableware, it is possible to observe the process well documented in the majority of Czech towns. In Prague glass ware fragments appeared quite early, already in the 12th century and also in the following century glass presented luxury ware intended for the highest social level. Towards the end of the 13th century the situation began to change. During the first half of the 14th century we...

Specifika počítačem podporovaného překladu z němčiny do češtiny / CAT Tools in German - Czech Translation

Handšuhová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
Abstract This thesis handles special translation software, the mastery of which is becoming one of the basic requirements of successful translation work. The theoretical part describes the historical development, classification and main functions of translation memory systems. The thesis will further attempt to determine the criteria for the effective use of CAT tools and explore the text types and sorts for which the translation memory systems are most commonly used in the translation process. The functional view of the language-based text typology and the principles on which the translation memory systems work will also be handled. The practical part compares the result of a translation process (translation as a product) with and without CAT tools. The corpus of parallel texts (original translation) will be subjected to a translation analysis. This analysis concludes the levels which are affected by differences between translations made with and without CAT tools. The differences in the actual translation process with and without CAT tools which are not empirically verifiable will be analysed based on a survey conducted amongst translators. Then, the empirical part of the findings are summarized and systemized. The last chapter deals with the expected development in the translation market, the...

Application aux aires d'alimentation de captages en Île-de-France / Transitions to organic farming in a territory : approach via interactions between technical and commercialization systems. Application to water catchment areas in Ile-de-France

Petit, Caroline 25 April 2013 (has links)
Organic farming is one of the global solutions recommended in response to recent environmental regulations for preventive management of water quality. The aim of this thesis is to study the transition of farms towards organic farming in specific territories, based on the case of water catchment areas in Ile-de-France. From an agronomy of territories perspective, I develop a disciplinary interface with geography, and analyze these transitions from the viewpoint of interactions between technical and commercialization systems on various territorial scales. My research has included surveys on large-scale farmers and market gardeners in the Ile-de-France region, and on operators of agricultural supply chains. I have also examined "water catchment areas studies" under way. I first consider the potentialities and modalities of farms' transition to organic farming, by developing methods to evaluate their technical proximity to organic farming and the size of the technical and commercial leaps that they would have to make in a situation of conversion. In parallel, an analysis of the technical and commercial strategies of organic farms enables me to produce various biological models. I then show that the territorial opportunities of commercialization impact on organic farms' possibilities to evolve. Finally, the relevance of the water catchment area scale for engaging in territorialized development of organic farming is called into question. The complexity of the implementation of this objective is shown in relation to the superposition of territories of different natures. This work contributes to the understanding of obstacles to the effective introduction of organic farming in territories where drinking water is an issue.

Umíme se učit s CLIL? Akční výzkum při zavádění inovativního přístupu k výuce angličtiny. / Are We Able to Learn by CLIL? Action Resarch During Its Implemention.

Vlčková, Mária January 2018 (has links)
A b s t r a c t: CLIL is an innovative approach how to improve foreign language teaching. Thanks to the globalization, language education became one of the main priorities in most of the states, European countries, especially. However, foreign language education has been intensively discussed over the past two decades, there are still some important questions to answer. What is the best time to start with foreign language teaching? Which methods shall we use? When shall we start with the intensive foreign language teaching? Third grade, second grade or even earlier? I suggest CLIL and, particularly, language showers, could be a suitable solution how to prepare children for the future foreign language teaching. The main goal of my thesis is to find what kind of CLIL activities are suitable for the second grade where I actually teach. More specifically, I will carry out action research which will be based on videorecordings of three CLIL lessons. I will also try to analyse my linguistic and didactic mistakes. The analysis should help me to find solutions which will improve my CLIL teaching. Within the thesis, I will also try to diagnosticate my own pedagogical type which will help me to recognize the characteristics which will play important role during the reflective process of my CLIL teaching. The aim of...

“How a state is made” – statebuilding and nationbuilding in South Sudan in the light of its African peers

Frahm, Ole 24 November 2016 (has links)
African states are often judged by comparison to an ideal-typical Western European nation-state, which inevitably finds the African state wanting. This thesis challenges this theoretical drawback by developing a novel typology of the African territorial nation-state in juxtaposition to the European model. The typology is then applied as a theoretical prism for an in-depth analysis of the case of South Sudan, the world’s newest state, for the period 2005-2014. At the same time, comparison to the anomalous case of South Sudan provides new insights into the changing nature of statehood and nationalism in Africa. Starting out from a historical-philosophical overview of state and nation in the European context, the very different circumstances of nation-state formation in postcolonial Africa are depicted. The author then draws on a large body of literature covering almost all of Sub-Saharan Africa to distil typified facets of state and nation. For the African state, these components are the hybrid quasi state, the illegitimate state, the privatized neopatrimonial state and the swollen centralized state. The typology of the African nation consists of inclusive state-nationalism, the resurgence of political ethnicity and exclusionary new nationalism and the politics of autochthony. Based on primary and secondary sources including fieldwork in South Sudan, the empirical reality of South Sudan’s nascent nation-state is shown to largely match the typology. Important divergences exist however in the degree of service delivery by foreign NGOs, in the dispersed nature of the neopatrimonial networks, and the role of language in nationbuilding. Crucially, South Sudan exhibits all three trends of postcolonial African nationalism at the same time rather than in successive periods. This indicates that in contemporary Africa rapid urbanization, modern communications and the prevalence of civil wars create very different conditions for nationbuilding than in decades past.

Jun, Raphael 04 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)
